Wound up at Los Ranchos after discovering long waits at restaurants on Phoenix. Glad our party of 4 could just walk in. Keep an eye on lunch or dinner specials. We got the dinner combo #2 - choice of two and went with two different quesadillas. We also got the El Moreno Special - shrimp tostadas with avocado and lots of fresh shrimp. First off, the online menu is horrifically incorrect and does not describe food accurately at all - including pricing. Secondly, the food is disgusting. I ordered a burrito - that was nowhere listed as a wet burrito - and what I got looks like slop in a bowl. Also, when I called to place the order, the person on the phone was very rude and short and I shouldn't have even continued with my order. Even a wet burrito looks like...something. I am a Mexican food consumer......and unfortunately this is 2nd on my list now of the blandest, least flavorful Mexican meal I've ever had. The additional salsa I requested didn't even in help. I really like this place. It's exactly what you'd expect of a Mexican restaurant! Baskets of chips with salsa to start and don't forget a margarita! Try the mango frozen margarita- yum! Hubby had the chicken quesadilla-it was two large flour tortillas loaded with onions and peppers with cheese and chicken then grilled . I did get a bite -but obit one ! It was that good! I had the fajitas pina-I loved the addition of big chucks of pineapple with the traditional fajitas blend of steak chicken and shrimp. I couldn't finish it there's enough for a couple of meals! And there was something so wonderful about their flour tortillas. Warm and tender and very soft. The atmosphere is cheerful and open. We were in town and decided to visit this restaurant and check out the food. For. Saturday night it wasn't too busy. We were seated quickly; the waiter came quickly to take our drink orders while another waiter brought chips and salsa. The restaurant has a small bar area and is decorated nicely; there is also seating for medium sized groups . The waiter gave us a few minutes to look over the menu and returned to take our order. Our food came out fast! We had our food at our table within maybe 10 minutes. We ordered Nachos Carbon, Chimichanga Vallarta and Hot & Spicy Burrito. The Nachos Carbon was a pretty good sized portion and was pretty tasty! The protein was all seasoned well and had enough cheese sauce and the right amount of toppings. The Chimichanga Vallarta was also tasty and well seasoned. I was expecting more protein in the tortilla shell and more cheese sauce on it as well, but it was good. It came with rice, beans and a little side salad (toppings for the chimichanga). The Hot & Spicy Burrito was also lacking some protein filling and some sauce. It actually could have been better with some cheese sauce instead of sour cream, but other than that, it was also good and had flavor. It is a bit on the pricier side for the amount we are used to getting at other Mexican restaurants we have been too, but we would definitely go there again to try other dishes. The food was very bland. No seasoning at all. I got the Carne Asada Vallarta and the meat was flavorless and dry. The cactus was slimy and the black beans seemed to be microwaved as the were all busted open, dry and tasted burnt. The service was good. Our waiter got our food out quick. The ambiance was mediocre. This is the best, by a long shot place to get quality authentic Mexican food on Lake Michigan. Curb appeal does not do this restaurant justice, but once inside you are transformed into Mexico. Great service, with special care to dietary issues. The space is well designed with ample space between tables. This is also one of the cleanest spaces in the county. Lousy food: Beef Fajita below average. The beef was hard dried out chunks that were very tough. The side plate was minuscule with barely a teaspoon of sour cream and very small amount of other items. The tortillas were very small, but good. The chips and salsa were okay, but the delivery girl couldn't speak English at all, and had to call another server to speak to us about "hot of normal salsa". During a busy weekend in South Haven we were happy to find this restaurant open with available seating for dinner. (Most restaurants in town were either closed for the season or unexpectedly closed for various reasons). Here we had prompt friendly service in the spacious restaurant.
