Food is super. The specials already aways good and change up. Can't go wrong with a burger. Super welcoming. There's TVs, darts, billiards, keno and pinball. I had the double cheeseburger deluxe with fried pickle fries, Buffalo nuggets and sweet corn balls. read more

Yeah, food is still good but they are out of bacon at a burger joint? No beer, no mixed drinks, no idea what happened to this supposed bar and grill and Kathy wasn't about to tell us either. Everything was hopefully this hopefully that, sorry don't have this or that, bar looks bare, and she's really not in a good mood that you can tell. Probably going through some tough times right now. Dive bar with my #2 all-time favorite burger! (See my review of Al's Drive In for my #1!) Huge burgers, Cooked just right, juicy without being overdone. You can order it anyway you like -- I get mine with "Garbage", so yummy. Beers on tap include Old Style, I would suggest ordering a mini pitcher if you are there with a friend. Be forewarned they only take cash -- all the great burger places seem to operate this way! Fries are great and they have many different options. I like the wedges. My friends and I recently ate here. -- 3 burgers, fries, two mini-pitchers of beer, total was $40 including a 20% tip! Cannot beat the value. Right off Exit 4 on I-196 in "downtown" Riverside. Danny the waitress didn't let us even sit down without giving a recommendation, never let our beer run dry, and provided premium advice on the cuisine. Went here with a local that has grown up around here and I was very happy! Its a dive bar, nothing crazy inside but clean and the staff was very friendly. Good, quick service. We all ordered burgers which were fresh-not frozen. They tasted homemade and were extremely affordable. Nice selection of beers and liquor overall. We discovered Riverside Tavern through a recommendation and decided to go there to watch the first Cubs playoff game and have something to eat. The place is a typical "dive bar" - much as described in previous reviews but I liked the vibe and they had a great music selection on the juke box. We were served by a hard-working waitress who was also tending bar. The crowd wasn't too big but there were enough patrons at the bar and in tables to give her plenty to do and she kept up beautifully. The menu was filled with typical bar food and a nice variety of side options. We chose the patty melt, a couple of burgers and a Reuben. Our food was served promptly and just the way we ordered it. The burgers and other items were really tasty and I thought a good value for the price - however, my order of wedge fries was very skimpy for $3.25 (no more than 10 fries from a very small potato). Overall it was a good meal and the experience was pretty much as expected. The Cubs lost but that's nothing new either. read more

If I could leave a 0 for a review I would! 1 is too high. My husband and I are visiting the area with our kids from out of town. Wanted to go out to a nice lunch, called to ask about a kids menu. The woman who answered the phone specifically told me that there was no kids menu and that there was nothing at there restaurant that was for children. She basically said don't bring your kids here, we don't want to serve you. I was a waitress myself for over 10 years, this is not acceptable. Especially when your website specifically says 'kid friendly '. Well we decided to go somewhere else and easily spent $100 with a nice tip for a place that not only was willing to serve my husband and I but our several kids too. Very disappointed! read more

I keep a small beach place around here and when I'm there, my friends and I always hit riverside. We went on a dive bar tour of the area looking for the best burgers (for them) and grilled cheese for me (I always add grilled onions and pickles and mustard) and watch the ball games and even get in a game or two of pinball. Best hole in the wall bar hands down! Such a feel good hometown bar! I'm from an hour away, but stopped in for a bite to eat while on a winery tour with my mom. We were looking for a great burger and fries to soak up all the wine we were drinking, and could not have found a better place. With thanks to Jean from Vineyard 2121, we had great service from Lisa and stayed for some fun with the hometown crowd, who were mostly men in their 60's-70's. We played some darts, which was super entertaining for the locals to watch, since my mom and I are pretty uncoordinated. We got to interact with the "Cheers" like bar locals and laughed at our inability to hit the bull's eye. It's just a little tavern in a little town, but DANG! they've got great burgers. Their special comes with sliced green olives. Who woulda thought? The curly fries and the onion rings, are cooked to perfection. They could do a little more for the vegetarians tho. On the walls are spectacular hand-painted murals of the forest and deer, when they are not covered with Nascar posters. Beer and burgers are reasonably priced. read more
