We have had a family house down the road for 90+ years and decided to give Wolverine Gardens a try. The hospitality and service were absolutely unmatched. We were greeted by the bartender and a few locals who were as friendly as can be. My bottle was never close to empty before I was asked for another. The best part, they sell T-shirts as a memory for one of the greatest bar experiences of all time. They have a great back room for any sized event, plus a stage for a live band. I wish we had been there for one of those situations as the grand room seemed to be full of good times. Would recommend booking in advance for private parties. Bathroom was tucked away, but had running water! 11/10 recommend, please pay respect to the generations who have passed through this Michigan delicacy read more

No food , just beer and the guy serving never let my beer run dry service was outstanding. Ambiance was dates but we loved it. True dive bars are far and few between. Don't let the appearance scare you . It's out of the 50's but truth be told it's a nice place. read more

A great last stop to top off an amazing day. Travelled to southern Michigan to visit the family farm for the weekend. We were seeking more adventure so loaded up the van with Grampy and the kids to go visit the Wolverin Gardens. You never know how it's going to be with the locals but they were warm and welcoming. We were greeted by the Owner Bobby who was quick with his service and beyond friendly. After a few cold beers it was time to use the facilities which were located beyond the grand ballroom. We were advised to please excuse the mess as it was still partially strewn with holiday decorations and the bands equipment from recent festivities. Well worth the trip as the restrooms were vintage and well used. We had discussions and considered the ballroom for my daughter's wedding reception someday, but to my disappointment the WG does not serve food (perhaps we can cater in??) Long and short of it is a little piece of history with friendly service and clientele- a place I will be telling my friends to visit if they ever travel that way. I loved it and I'm sure I will visit again one day. read more

Absolutely love this bar - full of history and great people. We stop here regularly and we're never disappointed! If we're lucky we get there on a euchre or a pot luck night - or even when an occasional musician is performing. Bob is the best and he will take care of you! read more

Drove past this place a few times over the past 15 years, thought it was just an abandoned building, Surprise, still a functioning bar with Bob the bartender. Once you get past the run down look, the drinks are cheap and the service is good and we ran into a nice crowd who was on a dive bar tour. Small TV so not a place to watch a game, but certainly worth the experience and the story you can tell others. Not many bars around open since 1898. read more

A truly unique destination. Definitely had to stop here for a beer. (I grew up in the area and was always curious about this run down building that always seemed to be open). Established in 1898, Wolverine Gardens in Glendora, MI is a multi-generation family-owned establishment still in operation - with one beer on tap (and a decent selection in the fridge), the bar mainly serves farmers and residents who live nearby. When we went in, "Maude" was playing on the 16 inch, barely color TV. Why in the world 5-stars to what seems like a total dive? - You have to give respect to any bar that's been open since 1898. - The proprietor, Bob, knew everyone who walked in by name (except me, a first timer here). - Bob and the patrons were all welcoming to me, the stranger, in what was clearly very much a locals spot. - There are a lot of places that try hard to be dives - this place was the real deal. -The interior was covered in funny, and non-politically correct postcards and signs that reminded me if my grandfather's basement when I was a kid. - The building seemed to (almost literally) defy gravity. This will never be a hipster spot; it is far to genuine for irony - it's like stepping into a piece of the past which time has forgotten. hopefully this short, inadequate review and accompanying photos will help to serve as a minor footnote and document of this unique destination. read more

Best dive bar ever!!! Yes ... the place is actually standing. It's a local watering hole where bartenders and patrons are friendly. They used to have Drewrys on draught but now only have Busch Light although ... I recommend anything in long necks. Unbelievable! Off color and politically incorrect signs, silly sayings and layers of dust on everything. Wolvrine Gardens ... that's how it's spelled on the sign. I first started going into Wolverine Gardens with my dad about 65 years ago. After we had been ice fishing on one of the nearby lakes dad would often stop there for a beer. I was about 10 years old and would sit right next to him at the bar nursing a 7-UP while he and the owner/bartender would swap lies about fishing. Many out-of-staters find it unbelievable that kids could sit at the bar in Michigan back then. Actually they still can, as long as they're with a parent -- which I think is a good thing. Kids can learn a lot from adult conversation in a bar. It helps them prepare for the real world, with fewer surprises later on. But I digress. This is supposed to be about Wolverine Gardens. At that time the owner was a guy named Harvey French, one in a succession of previous and future proprietors. After reaching adulthood the Lintner family came into possession and I would occasionally stop for a beer if I happened to be in that neck of the woods. In 1979 I moved away from the area due to my work. After retiring in 2000 I moved back and purchased a home in the neighboring community of New Troy, about 5 minutes away from Wolverine Gardens. By that time the Teifke family had owned and operated the place for about 15 years. They had developed a loyal customer base with weekly polka bands, an excellent lunch menu and a very friendly atmosphere. I became one of the many locals who congregated there; it was our number-one hangout. As the years passed the polka enthusiasts, mostly seniors to begin with, died-off or became too incapacitated to participate, so the weekly music entertainment stopped. At about the same time matriarch Janet Teifke, who was responsible for the wonderful food, got to the point that her arthritic condition prevented her from continuing her culinary magic. With the kitchen now closed the bar is still a favorite hangout for locals. Between farming 700 to 1000 acres with his two brothers Richard and David, Bob Teifke is the main bartender on duty most days. Describing Wolverine Gardens in a single adjective is impossible. "Quaint" doesn't quite make it, but there's an indescribable aura about the place. The thirty year-old 16" TV that brings in only three channels from a dog-eared roof antenna gives you a little flavor. Other than that, all I can tell you is the beer is very cold, the owners and customers are unbelievably friendly, and without having to be told, any four-letter words being uttered by male patrons stops immediately when ladies enter the premises. read more
