Overall missed expectations. We had been to the Hummingbird Lounge for cocktails and appetizers, and it was terrific. But dinner was disappointing. While the service and ambience could make everyone happy, the food itself was meh. In particular, the olives and Mancheco cheese with honey but nothing spicy to balance the sweet taste, started us out on a negative note. The crab cakes were lacking in crab and the risotto was a little wet. The chicken and short ribs were the high notes. We love the place and want to see it succeed. Hummingbird is a cute "lounge" but don't let the name fool ya, they have a full food menu and great entrees. In addition to a bar area and dining room inside, they have a beautiful patio in the warmer months. Service was spectacular: friendly and welcoming. We tried the grilled cheese sticks appetizer and honestly it wasn't as good as it sounded on the menu, but everything else was super delicious. Highly recommend the grilled lemon chicken - the green beans were cooked perfectly and the mashed had some small little lumps in them, just like mom made! I came on a Thursday evening and was surprised this place wasn't busier. I had the pineapple marg and fish + chips. Marg was good and stronger than I thought haha. Had a smoky taste to it but not overpowering. The fish and chips were SO good. Perfect amount of breading. Came out nice and hot. Some of the best fish and chips I've had. Prices are a little higher but comparable to other nice places in the area. I think you get a good amount of food, at least what I ordered. The fact that this building has been converted into a cute intimate restaurant is beyond me. That alone really attracted me to this establishment. A must visit in New Buffalo! I've been coming here the past few years for their impeccable cocktails. Their mixologists are very knowledgeable and can make you anything. These handcrafted cocktails are the best quality in Harbor Country, and incredibly they are also much more reasonably priced than the surrounding tourist spots. This summer we finally tried Hummingbird for dinner and were similarly pleased. The menu is quite small but everything we ordered (tuna appetizer, chicken, pork chop) was just right. We ended up going our first night and we loved it - a super cute spot with both indoor and outdoor seating and a great menu. We loved the Smoky Pineapple Margarita and split several plates - hard to pick just one favorite but some of the standouts were the Seared Tuna, the Brussel Sprouts, the Smoked Carrots, and the Mushroom Risotto. The bar selection is unique, I enjoyed the Blueberry Bramble. All the small plates we ordered had a nice flavor balance yet were overly salty - a little hard to ignore. So salty we had to share, that issue can be easily fixed. We started with 4 and the star was the cucumber salad - the chili and ginger dressing had a nice heat, fresh and bright. We enjoyed the beef skewer. Crab dip was surprisingly fishy but the fresh tomatoes and avocado rounds it out. There is a lot of thought and detail that went into this establishment so we'll return knowing it's a pre-dinner, social destination with detailed cocktails. We went on a Monday evening when the garage portion was open. We ordered the old fashioned with rum, smoked pineapple marg, blueberry bramble, and Manhattan. All of the drinks were really lovely. Don't miss the smoky pineapple margarita, it was awesome. In addition to their signature cocktails, they had a nice selection of canned beers, seltzers, and wine. We also ordered the corn dip and chips (amazing!) and the fries and garlic aioli (so tasty, great medium thick fries). They accidentally mixed up our food orders with the next table so we also accidentally got an order of the carrot hummus and pita (really yummy and garlicky). I'm glad this happened because it allowed us to try more of the apps and I wasn't mad about a single one!! Very large outdoor area, great indie/alt music choice, and nice staff. It's a great family owned spot with ample parking next to 5/3 bank. The owner, Ben, came out and talked to us and even took our group photo. Everyone working was attentive and kind. I can't wait to come back here to experience the fuller menu and the main building. This is a great place to take people before or after dinner, or get a quiet beer on a weekday evening. Seen this place the last couple times in town and last night we decided to check it out. Nice restaurant with an upscale look on the inside, friendly staff. We arrived just after opening so we had our pick of the tables on this Wednesday night. We were promptly seated and Kristine was our server. If I remember right, she said the outdoor area is primarily for adult beverage consumption, maybe just appetizers, not for dining. We stopped at the Outdoor Cocktail Bar on our way out. The Bartender, Devin was very nice and we also met the new GM Scott. Had a nice conversation with both. We ordered a couple Vodka and Lemon Slushy (I think that's what it was).
