The Red Dock has always been a fun summer spot, but unfortunately the food has really slipped since last year. We've been twice this summer, and both times the food felt sloppy and mediocre at best. It honestly looked like high school kids were running the kitchen, with staff hanging out on their phones while the doors were open. The drinks are okay, but they seem pretty weak for the price $14 for a rum punch...On our second visit, our daytime bartender seemed more focused on doing shots and Red Bull bombs with customers than making drinks properly. Somehow, we still ended up with a $150 lunch bill for three people -- just sandwiches, flatbreads, and some rum punch. The location and vibe are still great, but for the price, the food and service need to be a lot better. read more

We were at Red Dock a few weeks ago. We were excited to go for the atmosphere, the fact it was dog friendly, and being on the water. We were totally disappointed. We waited over 15 minutes and never got waited on, despite tables near us, that showed up after us, being waited on. No one even acknowledged our presence. We went to the bar and got drinks and asked for assistance from the bartender to get a waitress. She still never showed. After another 20 minutes, after we finished drinks, we left. As we were leaving we asked why they didn't wait on us and the waitress said they were "on a rotation." Which clearly didn't explain our table being overlooked by several waitresses for nearly 40 minutes! read more

The Red Dock has been one of my favorite summer spots for many years. I've told everyone I know to check it out if they are in the area. I was really looking forward to stopping in for a rum punch yesterday. Unfortunately, it was the worst experience I've ever had sitting at a bar. It took a good fifteen minutes for the bartender to fling some menus at us and walk away without saying a word, and without eye contact. It was very busy, but a simple acknowledgment would have gone a long way. I've never felt so invisible. I was sad to end up walking out, but didn't feel good about giving them money at that point. If they care that little about their costumers, I can't imagine I missed out on much. We had people stop us in the parking lot to ask how to get there and we shared our experience. They ended up driving away. Luckily there are many other great options nearby. read more

We come for the drinks, good music and location. There's nothing like being surrounded by water sipping a cocktail and watching the boats drive by. Their punches are always a safe bet and their Bloody Mary is really good and spicy. The food is decent...our hot dogs were fine and pimento cheese dip okay. The sandwiches and wraps looked really good and we'd try them next time. Overall a 10/10 because of the drinks and ambience! read more

One of those places someone has to tell you about or you'd likely never know it exists. A lady at one of the local wineries told us about it. It is a pretty cool spot! We had the chicken nachos, Chicago dog, rum punch, and sangria. The food was decent and a large portion. I didn't care for the sangria but the rum punch was really good! read more

First time here! We read that it was under new owners and wanted to give it a chance. So glad we did! The sandwiches were amazing! I highly recommend The Otis! So delicious! Their sweet and spicy dip/sauce is really tasty. It's loaded with horseradish and sweetness. My husband got a turkey wrap and said that was also good. Their Rum Punch was also yummy and the views are gorgeous. I felt like I was on vacation again in Aruba. The locals were very friendly as well and you could tell who weren't locals because we could overhear them saying how awesome this place was! read more

Heard about this place on Under the Radar. The atmosphere is very unique. It is right out at the end of a landmass on Lake Michigan with all of the seating on a dock. The parking lot is total unkept and the walk out to to the restaurant a little confusing. The building itself is eclectic hodgepodge of signs with a mix of slightly run down building. They like to blast their version of music, but if you sit out towards the end of the dock it's fine. All of this somehow adds charm to this place. I ordered the Barbecue Pulled Pork Sandwich with a side of noodles. I was with my Aunt who was the one who heard about this place. She ordered an Otis Sandwich. The sandwiches are baked so it takes a little while to receive. The 1st thing I have to say is the sandwiches are HUGE. My pulled pork had a ton of meat in it. Felt like 2 ibs. The sandwich was Spectacular, every last bite was super juicy. The sandwich was light on the bbq, you mostly tasted the pork and thats okay because it is amazing pork. The bread it's served on is also amazingly good. The noodles I got were served cold and were good, but also ehh. I took home about 2/3 of it and nuked it later and it was much better. My Aunt also loved her Otis Sandwich. The sandwiches are about $12 with no side, however the sheer size of the sandwiches make it well worth it. The service was mostly good. It was very attentive, just seemed lackadaisical. I think that's were some people get the rude from. Overall this was an easy 5 Stars. That was one of the best sandwiches I've had in years. It was my first time to the Red Dock to meet some friends and right from the get I noticed that they had a great staff and a pretty loyal local following. I feel like this bar is in the running for Kenny Chesney's Bar at the End of the World. It reminded me of Key West and pirates and summertime! There are a lot of yellowjackets bellied up to the bar too, so if you're allergic you may want to bring your epi-pen. Fortunately, the yellowjackets and bees were drinking just as hard as the locals so they were as docile as golden retrievers. I like to think they were pretty happy too since they were just there to party and drink like the rest of us. There was some pretty great drunk-watching off the pier while we watched captains docking for their tipsy crew to come aboard for a night-cap. I only wish I had a chance to order some food but I didn't have the pleasure of trying any of their mainstays. I assure you, they make a solid boat drink! I'd recommend a Dark and Stormy and I have it on good authority that the rum punch is delightful too. FYI CASH ONLY...please come prepared, and often. read more

CASH ONLY!!! You definitely go for the experience and to say you did it. The menu has mostly sandwiches but pretty much something for everyone. The food is decent but not something you write home about. The drink selection is small and everyone mostly chooses the rum runner punch style drink from the looks of it. We enjoyed some corona lights with limes! Plenty of us got wraps and hot dogs, decent meals but we waited SO LONG. Service was hit or miss. We ordered some drinks and never got them. We were lucky to get one of the two umbrella tables for some shade. The view is gorgeous, love the water front and seeing the boats pull up and come and go. If You are bringing your boat, you need ropes and bouy's of your own. Not the best accommodations but it's a local lakeside food hut vibe. read more

Red Dock is an essential stop when we are in Douglas / Saugatuck. Nothing like pulling in, tying up and getting a seat on the water for lunch at the Red Dock during summertime. The view is wonderful. The ambiance is what it should be. Comfy, laid back and beachy. Food is good but cash only. We've tried the pulled pork, tuna and hot dogs. The pulled pork is a fairly large portion and can be shared. Drinks are always good. Bathrooms are small but clean and functional. Music is always fun. read more

Rating the Red Dock five stars--not for the food as we only tried the Chicago Hot Dogs, but for the atmosphere and our server, Allison. Came two nights and both nights sat at the waterfront bar. Since it was mid-week, no live music, which was fine with us--just a relaxing time that really made us feel like we were on vacation. There is no inside dining, just a bar with stools and picnic tables, but what more should you expect for a small bar/cafe set at the end of a boat dock? Ownership has changed since we made our first visit more than a decade ago. Back then, the S.S. Keewatin Steamship, a large turn-of-the-century passenger liner was docked nearby. Unfortunately for Douglas, following being docked nearly 50 years in its harbor, but fortunate for the Keewatin, the liner was moved back to its homeport in Ontario Canada and restored. Mentioning the Keewatin is a great conversation starter with the locals, who frequent the Red Dock. read more

What a fun afternoon at Red Dock. No live music the day we went, but just a relaxing afternoon watching boats, swans and geese and enjoying the sunshine. Quite possibly the worst restaurant experience of my life. Every staff member, including the owner, was beyond rude! After waiting 2 hours and still not receiving our food (it's sandwiches, come on), we escalated the issue to the owner. He told us he didn't know when our food would be out, would take care of the drinks, and we were welcome to leave without our food. We left. Side note, we had two toddlers waiting for food and when we got out snacks to keep them calm during our wait, we were told no outside food was allowed! It was so hot outside, I wish they would have had misters or fans, since you couldn't go indoors, and there was limited seating in the shade. A few notes (which may explain some of the poor reviews): Hours/ Days of opening are erratic. Call 1st Kids are not encouraged- this is more of an adult place. Don't eat there. Stopped in here for a quick lunch the other day. We had an antipasto salad which came with pita, salami, chicken, ham, romaine, tomato, pepper solves and onions. Also had a pulled pork sandwich with Bbq. The place has lots of atmosphere with a chill vibe. Bring cash no credit cards here. I really liked the salad, my hubby said his sandwich was average. Fantastic, unique and beautiful location! The menu is spare -- mostly sandwiches -- but the quality of the boos and breads is excellent. Many of the breads are from the outstanding DeBoers Bakerij. I spent the weekend in Saugatuck for my bachelorette party with 9 other women. We rented a pontoon boat with a captain and at the end of the trip planned to get dropped off at the Red Dock to have an early dinner. We were rudely greeted by an employee on the dock as soon as we arrived. We had a cooler and a engagement ring float that we planned to leave outside with our drinks and snacks from the 4 hour trip. The man continuously nagged us and tried grabbing drinks and food from our hands while we were still getting off of the boat and situated. I was truly embarrassed for this staff of employees at the Red Dock. We went to several other Saugatuck restaurants and bars over the weekend and received nothing but great service. I would not recommend this place based on the awful treatment we received before we could even walk in the door. We took our business to The BARge instead, they were more than happy to accommodate us. read more

The security doesn't allow service animals and are very rude about it. My wife had emotional trauma in public do to how they treated her. They followed it up with being rude by telling her that psychiatric support dogs don't count and she's beginning to cry. This took place June 13th in case the owner wants to check which two guys were working that night. I refuse to ever step foot in that place again. Absolutely disgusting behavior. read more
