Consistently rude. Sitting here at the dock having a beer and was told that they didn't close for another 4.5 hours. Next thing we know the music goes off, they no longer have any cold beer and are turning people away. Shocking that a beach town would close in the mid-afternoon and be so unfriendly to people who chose this spot for vacation. Owner scowled at me as I ordered a beer and put down my tip. Hours were told to us, but seeming as though that changed within 15 minutes, I won't be taking my chances to revisit to see it closed or be told 15 minutes later they are closed. Find somewhere else to spend your money and feel appreciated. This lack of being open and hospitality has been consistent for 3 years. You never know what your are going to get. 5 stars for the vibe. Very cool lakeside location...on the dock (duh) of Kalamazoo lake. 4 stars for the ambiance. Loud Zydeco style tunes blaring from the sound system. If you're not into that, sit further out and it's not as loud. 3 Stars for the food. Not much of a menu, but the food was so-so. I had the sandwich, it was good but you don't really get anything to go with it. A bag of chips is extra. Slaw is extra. No fries at all on the menu. Just seemed a little bare bones for my tastes. 2.5 Stars for the service. Granted it was busy, but our table just seemed to get forgotten a few times. It's okay for a quick bite, as long as you're not in a hurry, and a good place to grab a drink on the water. Other than that. I'd probably go elsewhere read more

This is an outdoor bar. No way around it. Don't bring your kids. Expect nothing nice. This is an outdoor bar. With that said.....it's pretty cool and unique. Owned by an old hippy, it gets good live music and is a very unique hangout. Laid back. The beer is all cheap schwill, and I can't vouch for the food. If you're in Saugatuck/Douglas on a nice sunday afternoon, go hang out for awhile. You'll remember it. read more

Should be a fun loving spot, but every time we come here the management is yelling at its customers. A group of us are locals and stopped here for a drink. Having a good time when we looked up and apparently they had closed up and everyone was gone. We got up to leave too and, although we are all responsible adults, forgot to finish our drinks before exiting the dock and 2 of us carried plastic cups out. Owner appears out of nowhere and instead of politely asking us to finish drinks before exiting....he threatened to call the cops on us! Tough way to go through life like that guy. Didn't really appreciate this from an owner after just spending $50 at his place. We won't be back. read more

This is a must visit during a summer trip to Saugatuck and Douglas (sister cities across the way from each other). This place combines all my favorite things about summer and Saugatuck: a Key West vibe, reggae and hanging by the water. It's a hidden location that you'll miss unless someone tells you about. It's got a great location at the end of the dock off Blue Star just past the bridge (next to the big Keewatin ship and maritime museum) with a view of the Saugatuck harbor. There's ample parking but even cooler? If you're boating you can pull right up for beer and food! The people watching is awesome, the music is always loud (often reggae) and the decor is the bomb. Painted yellow and red and loaded with bumper stickers, cool posters, pro-weed propaganda - this place is all about mellow and enjoying the season. It opens Memorial Day weekend, closes everyday at sundown and then packs it up after Labor Day - a truly summer-only haunt. The tuna-melt is my favorite! read more

We go to Saugatuck every summer. A couple of years ago we stopped by and had a good time. My wife and had "adult drinks" while our 5 yr old had some juice. It has overpriced swill beer and cocktails. But it's in a tourist area and because it has probably the best view of any other food/drink establishments in the area. Like others have said, hippie, surfer type bar with not so surfer-friendly prices. After the Keewatin left, they closed it. We went back a couple of times and no luck. This year we found out it was open again. Walked to the bar only to be greeted by a man saying no kids allowed. I have no idea why. We saw no naked people around, nothing XXX. It's a food establishment and you don't allow kids? Since when and why? I highly doubt anyone wants to buy alcohol for their 8 yr old. read more

Yes. Cool spot. But, not worth your time. Wait staff is great but, ownership sucks. They are not welcoming at all. Anxious for Ship 'n Shores bar to open. We will not be back to Red Dock and would not recommend to any of our boating friends. We've given them too many chances. We love SAUGATUCK and would much prefer to spend our dollars else where. They have their "bouncers" dressed in camo on a Sunday afternoon!! Just too controlled for us. What should have been an enjoyable afternoon turned into a bad experience. This place would be okay if it were not for the owner. We've been here multiple times and each time the only issue is the rude owner. The most recent time after a $400 plus tab we wanted to add ice to our drink as we were all leaving. Not only could we not get ice at the bar, but after offering to buy a bag was given some snide comment from the owner. As someone that loves small business owners, not only can I not condone this place but would can only hope it remain opens under new management. There are signs everywhere noting, "just chill, dude", "chill bro", "be nice, or leave"....I get it, open a bar in a pretty cool locale, promote a relaxed atmosphere, put a lot of Dead Head stickers up and overcharge the touristy suckers....don't be one of those. Plenty of other great places in Saugatuck, like the Sand Bar and Wally's, which the bartender at Red Dock pointed us to...even he knew what a rip-off the place is. read more

The view is spectacular and the food can't be beat ! We have been going here for years and we know that Tony only uses the very best and freshest ingredients... many sauces , condiments , etc are housemade . I definately recommend Red Dock to anyone visiting the Saugatuck/Douglas area. The atmosphere is GREAT!! The bar is alot of fun. Loud music, colorful, with a total Key West vibe. They are only open to sundown though :( The food is GREAT which was an added bonus. I wasn't expecting such quality food (and great portions) at a BAR!! If I could give it no stars I would. Been coming up here the last 3 years and love Saugatuck. It is our annual boating trip and has become quite the summer event for my friends and I. Let's start with Red Dock as a business in general. Its not even an original idea. Blarney's Island and the Broken Oar on the fox lake has been doing his for years and somuch better. I really don't post reviews, but this guy who is the owner really has me fired up. The general way he treats people is terrible. We brought our boats there and my dog (which was staying on my boat) He went ballistic and made me park my boat way off to the side so now I can't have a line of sight on my boy. My dog is 13 and has cancer so it's not like he was jumping off the boat and running around everywhere. Nicely done man. Your day is coming. Eventually maybe the town will revolt around you or maybe another business will open up right by you. They will have copied your famous red dock punch and served it with better atmosphere, better music, far less expensive and WE TAKE CREDiT CARDS!!! So rethink your business approach on how you treat your customers Mr. Red Dock, you may even see your business triple in revenues. read more

My family rented a boat for the morning recently. We stopped at the red dock to grab a few drinks and hot dogs. When we pulled up at 11:30 A.M. it was closed but there was a bartender setting up. He asked if we could wait 5 minutes til they were ready. We said sure and tied the boat up while we waited. 20 minutes later they opened which was no big deal, it was a nice day. When they opened my 3 yr old daughter had to use the bathroom, which is like an outhouse. My wife went to bring her and the man who I assume was the owner yelled at her about not bringing outside cups onto the dock. No problem, she put it back on the boat. Then a woman who I assume was also the owner yelled at my wife that that the bathrooms are only for paying customers. We waited 20 minutes to buy drinks and 8 hot dogs. The man also was inside complaining about us not buying anything. Why are these people so angry? They didn't even give customers a chance to give them money. The drinks were fine, the hot dogs were terrible. Don't waste your time at this place. Also the man is luckily he hid in the kitchen as he would've had to deal with my very insulted wife. read more
