Since the last time I reviewed they've upped their offerings, including an expanded section of dry goods/pantry items. They've also got a small but nice looking meat and seafood counter and loads of delicious looking prepared foods and baked goods. This isn't the spot to do all your grocery shopping if you're staying in town (I'd head to the grocery store down the road for that) but if you want picnic-y things, snacks for a group, nice meats and such for the grill, fancier snacks, wine, etc, it makes a great spot and supplemental shopping spot. read more

I stopped for a sandwich here while in town. The sandwiches were all premade (by them) and came with mustard and mayo packets. The Turkey sandwich was pretty good. I really liked the bun. But it wasn't anything special. I decided to grab a piece of carrot cake. It was also "OK". It was a little dry. But a HUGE piece. Would I eat here again? Probably. I've driven past this store during several visits to the area and finally made the stop this round. I was surprised at how sparse the inventory seemed to be and that they don't offer any fresh produce. What can you find here? Isabel's has made a great turn around. It wasnt very good in previous years. With the new manager in place, Cathy has stocked the shelves with an abundance of gourmet specialities. Imported cheeses, meats from Italy, fresh artisan breads delivered on Fridays. Italian pizza made only on Thursdays, with Nonna's secret sauce and flour imported from Italy. So when you are away from home and vacationing in the Saugatuck/Douglas area, you must stop by and you wont be disappointed. read more

Isabel. Isa belle, isa ten. Stopped here for a quick breakfast with friends and our lives were changed. The coffee 10/10 amazing, the breakfast sandwiches were so good with the pepper jelly, but the baked goods are what changed the game. Cara and the Isabel's team are helpful, knowledgeable, and warm. These ladies do a great job of keeping the helpers/customers ratio high. Even if there's a long line, they'll make sure the line moves quick. What we enjoyed MOST about Isabel's was the simple, elegant style and floor plan. Clean, classic, well-lit, tasteful, with every fresh item clearly on display. They have everything you could want in a (counter order) QSR with plenty of places to sit down, enjoy your meal, and visit with friends (and maybe even strangers). We ordered the bolognese sandwich (on special) with a hot chocolate (don't judge) and stepped out onto the patio with our family. The patio space is nice and quiet even though it's right on Blue Star. We took some granola home with us to sprinkle on our morning yogurts. YUM! Of course, we'll be back. This place is beautiful in presentation and offerings. We went in for a breakfast treat or two and landed on a sweet and savory selection both for the win. Both were about $5 each with tip. Loved the outside patio as much as the lovely showcase inside. Friendly staff who were happy to help give recommendations and attend to your needs. The rest of the market had some nice prepared sandwich and wrap options, a meat and fish case, and a nice little market. Definitely recommend the chocolate filled croissant. The spinach and feta puff pastry was also very good. I noticed self-service station offered nice dairy alternatives for coffee including oat milk. We are three hours from downtown Chicago and it might as well be thirty-three hours. The difference between Chicago's Gold Coast and Douglas, Michigan is like Mars and Venus. This pristine, sleepy town has a wonderful market / restaurant, called Isabel's. This place is making fantastic sandwiches, beautiful salads, great wine selections, nice desserts and very clever novelty foods. I had a ham and cheese sandwich, my wife had a fantastic chicken salad and our friends had corn salad that was great. These nice people were using organic this and farm to table that which let me believe, we all ate a super healthy lunch this day. Isabel's is a must if you're in Saugatuck! We only stopped in once for breakfast, but it's one of those places you can go to over and over again. And it would be a great spot to grab a few things for a nice picnic at the beach. We had a few pastries and the breakfast sandwich. The breakfast sandwich was solid and the pastries were fun. There's lots of variety. I had the mocha cruffin and it was so good. Super flakey and very nice texture. The mocha filling was sweet and I loved the icing (not too sweet). I heard the avocado toast is good here, but they weren't serving any at the time. The space is very spacious with lots of outdoor and indoor seating. It looks like they must have outdoor events or grill outside sometimes. I would definitively recommend stopping here when you're in town! read more

What a little Saugatuck Gem. We came here after a hike to grab a bite to eat and our group could not stop raving about how incredible the food was. I ordered the ham and cheese sandwich they had and oh boy. I'm sure this actually isn't all too uncommon but they put apple slices in the sandwich and it truly made all the difference! A few others ordered soups and they thoroughly enjoyed them. Especially when paired with bread. We didn't spend much time in the market side, but from what I could see it looked like they had a nice wine collection, and a few other eclectic items. I would 100% come back here. read more

New in September of 2020, Isabels is a coffee shop, bakery, cooking school, social hang out! They offer patio and picnic table seating.it was recommended to us by the owner of our Airbnb. We are glad we took their suggestion. My husband had the breakfast sandwich, which he gladly finished. Their nitro lived up to his "chain coffee shop" nitro. I had the croissant and honeybutter. Very good. They also offer a selection of savory items that can be taken to go, perhaps to the beach? Isabels also offers cooking classes and are getting ready to install grills and smokers outside for outdoor classes. Check this place out! read more

2 stars for the ambiance but only 1 star for food. We came here last summer (2022) and were impressed with gourmet lunch choices. We enjoyed freshly made sandwiches and soups for our lunch last summer. We stopped by yesterday for lunch hoping for the same experience. Once we saw the menu by the entrance we started doubting we came to the same place (unfortunately, we did). All they have on the menu now is Sloppy Joe, hot dog, chicken tenders and couple of other fried options. There was a fridge with wilted salad and sandwiches they sell at an airport. A true gem for the discerning eater. This is a craftsman-level grocery store, deli, bakery and special event space. It's uncommon to see a place like this, which has a small wine bar and large patio too. Some amazing gourmet food choices, clearly handpicked and evaluated by an experienced staff. It's very impressive to see the quality so high, the unusual variety/flavors. Knowing how great the choices, customers can shop with confidence that even if they're buying something obscure or different (and entirely unplanned), they are getting something that's been curated by foodies and food professionals. We probably stopped here every day that it was open during our long weekend in Saugatuck. It is a bakery, eatery, and market all in one, with some special events like cooking classes etc. We picked up some pastries, baked goods, and drinks for breakfast/snacks, along with sides and some ground meat for cooking dinner later that night. My favorite was probably the bacon, cheddar, scallion scone and the honey butter biscuits. They bake some stuff in house, while others are sourced elsewhere. I wish everything was baked in-house! Others in the group really enjoyed the pineapple kombucha they have on tap as well as the cookies. The meat we got from them was very fresh and fairly priced. We also got a packet of spice blend to use on the burgers, which I thought made the best seasoned burger I have had. We got the vietnamese chicken salad and grilled zucchini as sides for our BBQ, but neither were standout. Given my MIL makes great vietnamese food, I think the salad could have used a bit more lime and fish sauce. I thought the grilled zucchini could have been cooked longer, while a friend thought it tasted like fish which was off-putting. I would go back to Isabel's next time I'm in the area! I wish I could give them 6 stars. An absolutely fabulous find! Visiting Saugatuck in January, during the week, with COVID restrictions. The vegan curried chickpea salad was delicious and the chocolate muffin was the best I ever had, even compared to non vegan. The fried rice with egg, as well as the pasta salad with the unique noodles were delicious. Great selection of beverages. This is definitely a return-to for me, even at 1-1/2 hours from home! This was the best place in and around Sagatauck. Every morning we got espresso and lattes and fresh backed goods. Now you have to fill your cup from thermos with black coffee like in a gas station, and the bakery is very limited. Seems as our morning stops will have to redirect to another business. Isabel's market is a cute spot with some high quality grocery items, nice wine selection, and good sandwiches. However, PEOPLE WITH ALLERGIES BEWARE. The staff is not well versed in allergies, nor knowledgeable about cross contamination or where their products come from. We frequented Isabel's a number of times over a week while on vacation and got varying responses about items they sold. At first, they told me everything was made in house. I quickly found out that that was not true. Isabel's sources from a number of high quality places, but that sort of information is KEY for avoiding allergies. The staff here need to say, "I don't know" when people ask questions about allergies, not what you hope to hear. Secondly, the baked goods are not necessarily fresh. My sister and I went one day and were very impressed. The second day we bought a variety of items, some the same as we'd purchased before, and found they were all quite stale (loaf of bread, donut, bagels). Finally, while Isabel's has a quality espresso machine, the staff need some training on using it. The espresso was bitter tasting and cappuccinos are offered in 12 or 16 oz with scalding hot milk. read more

I have been to the market several times when visiting Douglas. I purchased several items this weekend. I was disapointed by the quality of their prepared baked goods. the rainbow cake was dry and the both kinds of cookies packaged as a 6 pack were dry as well. The prices were higher for the quality of the product . I would recommend adding a sell by date on these items. read more

This place is a hidden gem! a little off the beaten path of Saugatuck Main Street... but so worth the visit! Went on a busy Sunday morning. This upscale deli has a great selection of baked goods, coffee, and a changing daily menu. I ordered the avocado toast on multigrain bread with pickled onions cabbage egg, cheese and tomato.. it was a bit slow but it was made to order, omg.. it was literally the best thing I've had out to eat in a long time.. worth every bit of the slight wait.. latte was good outdoor seating was very nice for COVID. When I wanted the Frittata from the "prepared foods" case they refused to warm it for me. hmm, really? They mumbled something about covid but that's not logical since they do serve food and have a sit down area. Maybe because it is half the price of the hot food choices? Then, $3.75 for coffee and no refills. Rigidity is never a recipe for success. I do hope this new place makes it but they need some fine tuning. The pastries, cookies, bread are fantastic. The homemade pasta choices are now always in our fridge. I love that I can stop by and pick up Salmon, shrimp, scallops, mussels to make for dinner. Over-priced and deceptive labelling. We purchased some groceries on our trip to Douglas and only looked at the receipt (clearly our mistake) after we were home. We were billed 10.99 for a small container of pistachios (that was labelled $3.29) and $10.49 for a carton of oat milk that is $2.49 at Whole Foods. We were then asked to leave a tip and did not see an option (on the screen) for not leaving a tip. Very expensive for the purchase of 2 simple items.
