Grabbed a quick beer here for heading out for a dune ride. We sat on the patio because the inside was somewhat dark and dreary. Outside was great with lots of flowers & plants everywhere. If you thought beach towns didn't have good food, you're wrong! The girlies and I went to Douglas for the beach and discovered Saugatuck Brewing Company! They have a lot of seating and big tables for groups like us. For a pub, they actually have a lot of great menu items. I got a pulled pork burger and my friends got country fried chicken salad, olive burger, blackberry salad, oven baked mac and cheese, and chips and hummus. My wife and I went to the Saugatuck brewing Company. I started off with a Magis Irish red nitro beer. It was a pleasant surprise being slightly Sweet with a touch of honey and a very mild aftertaste from being only slightly hopped. My wife had the citrus orange beer which was also very good. we both had the fish and chips which was excellent the beer batter was very light and crispy and the fish was very tender and flaky. After we hit up the antique store next door we popped over to try the brewery. We were seated outside promptly by a friendly host. Our server was quick to check and was friendly. We shared a beer flight and enjoyed the Blood Orange the most. The app we had was the Smoked White Fish dip. It was excellent. It was not overly smoky and had a good consistency. The house made chips were crisp and the perfect vehicle for a dip. My wife enjoyed her chicken sandwich and my son enjoyed his tenders and fries. Both were cooked similarly with possibly being pickle brined and light,y breaded. I had the smoked wings which were excellent. The we're finished in fryer and seasoned well. The host them brought waters to the table and answered a quick question if we could mix tiers in a flight. I found the pilsner and the strawberry shandy both good. Ordered the nitro but they had switched it to blueberry lemonade shandy. Not my favorite. The peach shandy was not peachy. The black cherry was tart and reminded me of a Ludens throat drop. A couple need-to-knows: 1. They only have one brand of liquor, their own. Only their vodka, only their bourbon, etc. You can't order favorite brands for your drinks. 2. It's pricey. Pretty much every item you order is going to be around $12-15. My husband and I stopped a couple of weeks ago. I ordered the pretzel (appetizer) and a cranberry vodka (came in a tiny glass, inverted triangle shape). My husband ordered the chicken strips and a specialty drink they had. Two appetizers, two small drinks - bill $60 range. 3. Service is hit and miss. In the winter there's not always a lot of waitstaff (understandable), but even so they're not always very attentive. In the summer I've seen people get up and walk out because they waited and no one ever came to their table. Pro's: Food is good! I recommend the chicken shwarma sandwich. In the summer they have a frozen red sangria drink that's awesome! (Note: it sells out sometimes) Great patio - nice place to relax and have a drink and something to eat! We each ordered the different salads (caesar, country fried, and third coast) with chicken tenders on top. Their chicken tenders are some of my favs and it was the perfect little meal! VERY impressed with how Saugatuck Brewing handled the power outage. We went to eat early; our server explained (using a separate, off menu sheet) what was available. We appreciate SB for being so proactive. As we were eating, more and more patrons poured in to the dining room and (compliments to the kitchen) the staff kept up. We're not beer drinkers, so we tried the Cab. AWESOME choice. At first we didn't understand that SB made the cab...then we quickly grew even more impressed. We came at a great time too since it wasn't busy at all. Our waiter was super friendly and helped us with some awesome suggestions since it was our first time there. Great find on our way home from Saugatuck Dunes State Park. I ordered the Mediterranean Bowl - (Falafel, hummus, quinoa tabbouleh, kalamata olives, pickled red onion and tahini sauce. Served with pita.) It was really quite good and very filling. The portion size was generous. My beer choice was not my favorite - the Oval Beach Blonde.
