If you thought beach towns didn't have good food, you're wrong! The girlies and I went to Douglas for the beach and discovered Saugatuck Brewing Company! They have a lot of seating and big tables for groups like us. For a pub, they actually have a lot of great menu items. I got a pulled pork burger and my friends got country fried chicken salad, olive burger, blackberry salad, oven baked mac and cheese, and chips and hummus. My wife and I went to the Saugatuck brewing Company. I started off with a Magis Irish red nitro beer. It was a pleasant surprise being slightly Sweet with a touch of honey and a very mild aftertaste from being only slightly hopped. My wife had the citrus orange beer which was also very good. we both had the fish and chips which was excellent the beer batter was very light and crispy and the fish was very tender and flaky. For the usually crowded Douglass/Saugatuck area this restaurant/brewery is both easy to get into and serves good food. I'm not a beer person, but I had the root beer which was great. After we hit up the antique store next door we popped over to try the brewery. We were seated outside promptly by a friendly host. Our server was quick to check and was friendly. We shared a beer flight and enjoyed the Blood Orange the most. The app we had was the Smoked White Fish dip. It was excellent. It was not overly smoky and had a good consistency. The house made chips were crisp and the perfect vehicle for a dip. My wife enjoyed her chicken sandwich and my son enjoyed his tenders and fries. Both were cooked similarly with possibly being pickle brined and light,y breaded. I had the smoked wings which were excellent. The we're finished in fryer and seasoned well. A couple need-to-knows: 1. They only have one brand of liquor, their own. Only their vodka, only their bourbon, etc. You can't order favorite brands for your drinks. 2. It's pricey. Pretty much every item you order is going to be around $12-15. My husband and I stopped a couple of weeks ago. I ordered the pretzel (appetizer) and a cranberry vodka (came in a tiny glass, inverted triangle shape). My husband ordered the chicken strips and a specialty drink they had. Two appetizers, two small drinks - bill $60 range. 3. Service is hit and miss. In the winter there's not always a lot of waitstaff (understandable), but even so they're not always very attentive. In the summer I've seen people get up and walk out because they waited and no one ever came to their table. Pro's: Food is good! I recommend the chicken shwarma sandwich. In the summer they have a frozen red sangria drink that's awesome! (Note: it sells out sometimes) Great patio - nice place to relax and have a drink and something to eat! Place got packed fast on the 4th at noon. Smash burger and fries were very good and I'm not a big smash burger fan. The brews not so much. I had all the IPA's including the hazy's and I thought they were all very bland. Didn't offer that bite that a hazy normally does. They all tastes like pilsners. read more

A simple little place with a simple little patio where you can get some pretty good bar food -- cheesey cheese curds, a nicely spicy Nashville hot chicken sandwich, a burger, kids meals, etc. The one weird thing is that I really disliked most of the beers, which I found variously too juicy, too bitter, etc. Your mileage may vary, and I'd rather see a local brewing company erring on the side of pushing things too hard so I don't want to complain too much, but for me the pretty good bar food and the simple little patio were the highlight. I didn't find anything remarkable, but it all hit the spot. Had a nice beer; they lean towards shandy style, fruit beers at least on our late summer visit. Got a turkey club with fries and it was loaded with turkey, definitely hit those protein goals by choosing this spot. For whatever reason, my girls didn't like their chicken tenders. One said they were spicy (no, they weren't) but I think it was just the black pepper? Either way, worth passing along their feedback from the kids menu just because they didn't touch them. After a fun day of antiquing at the Saugatuck Antique Pavilion me and my partner decided it was only right to try the brewery next door for some lunch. We came at a great time too since it wasn't busy at all. Our waiter was super friendly and helped us with some awesome suggestions since it was our first time there. VERY impressed with how Saugatuck Brewing handled the power outage. We went to eat early; our server explained (using a separate, off menu sheet) what was available. We appreciate SB for being so proactive. As we were eating, more and more patrons poured in to the dining room and (compliments to the kitchen) the staff kept up. We're not beer drinkers, so we tried the Cab. AWESOME choice. At first we didn't understand that SB made the cab...then we quickly grew even more impressed. We stopped here on a Thursday for drinks. It was pretty quiet, but there was live music, which was pretty cool! We each tried a couple beers, and they were all pretty decent! On a beautiful evening in the summer, our group of 18 didn't think we'd be able to find a table anywhere, but they got us right in. We were looking for a place to grab some food on a Saturday night and there were not many options in the area without having a reservation , so we ended up at Saugatuck Brewing Co. We have been here before to sample their beers, but this time we also wanted some food. We had to wait 20 minutes, mostly because the outdoor area was closed due to rain. We had the Bavarian Jumbo pretzel with cheese sauce. The pretzel was large , and soft and fresh. It was not covered with too much salt. My husband had the double smash burger , which he enjoyed. He also had a flight of beer . He tried the Bonfire Brown, Blueberry Maple Stout, Rainbow Rodeo IPA and Melon Ball Double IPA , and a few others. He enjoyed the Melon Ball- and the lemon and citrus flavors, so much we bought some to take home, along with the Blueberry Lemonade Shandy, which was on summer clearance. All of their beer is from the 90s. The Lager isn't good, just meh, PBR is 10x better. Their selection of stouts and Porters would be the best bet but I'm an ipa and Pilsner guy and they can't do those well. Someone should redo all of their beer and turn this into a better spot. read more

Yesterday I ordered the tacos and the portions were so generous I couldn't eat it all. I took one of the 3 tacos home. Today I microwaved it for lunch and it was STILL good. Incredible! Tacos don't usually reheat well of course, but I tried it because I couldn't bear to throw away such good food. And that worked out! Met our needs with lagers, IPA, and shandy options. Service was good- food was generally accepted by all.
