As the saying goes: times heals all. Granted it's just a dive bar but it was a much better experience than the last visit. The bartenders were friendly and attentive and the overall vibe was relaxed. Drink prices were reasonable. Keno still proved to be a waste of money but that's not the bars fault, lol.

Some folks might call this a dive Barr because how dark this joint is. They have a jukebox, pool table and a great dive Barr feel. I love the art on the ceiling. Drinks are reasonably priced served quickly. They have standard bar snacks like pop corn, real jerky and chips. The place feels right. If you're not comfortable in a dive bar type joint, this may not be for you. We loved the place.

This place was a lot of fun. The drink prices are great, the bartenders were friendly and provided quick service and the live music was GREAT! I highly recommend checking out James Reeser and the Back Seat Drivers if you get the chance. We came into Saugatuck to celebrate our anniversary and happened upon The Sand Bar and were not disappointed. While it may not be the most modern, classy joint in town...the patrons and workers all seem to genuinely enjoy themselves which creates the perfect atmosphere to have fun in. There is a pool table in the back, TVs for those that want to watch them, a jukebox full of Blues, a great drink selection and a local cab company that will make sure you get back home safely. The only downside is they take ONLY CASH....but that's not a big deal with ATMs nearby.

    An oasis.

Cold beer, excellent and reasonably priced hot dogs... friendly staff, classic decor and a truly unique juke box.

Apology: I didn't take any pictures of the food because we were hungry and it was delicious…read more We went to Phil's while in town visiting The Dunes for the Miss Gay Michigan America Pageant this weekend. Walking in we were immediately redirected because we didn't notice the please wait to be seated sign that was outside of the door. It would be nice if the sign had been a little more visible or if we had been redirected more kindly. We were sat immediately and even though I tend to hate high tops, the chairs were sturdy and comfortable. Between myself and my friends we ordered the grilled ham and cheese, the nutty salad, and the burger (with cheddar, lettuce, onions, tomatoes, mayo, ketchup, and mustard). We all loved our food and it came out quickly. I ordered my burger medium-well and it was cooked perfectly. Our server was attentive and made sure to refill our water frequently. At the end of our meal they gave us little cups of animal crackers, which was just the cutest touch! Overall loved and would totally return and recommend.

We grabbed seats at the bar, and the place was full of locals which honestly tells you everything you need to know right there. And not just full... but full of the nicest people. The kind of place where you feel like you belong within five minutes. Now let's talk about Jimmy... WOW. Absolute rockstar behind the bar. Not only was he making amazing drinks, but he was also doing his best to convince us to ditch our dinner reservations and stay honestly, he almost had us The drinks were so good we ended up coming back later that night for dessert... because clearly we weren't done yet. But here's the part that got me I casually mentioned it was my birthday weekend, nothing big... and the NEXT DAY while we were walking around downtown, we look up and there's my name on the marquee wishing me a happy birthday. Like... who does that?! That kind of thoughtfulness is just next level and completely made my day. Phil's isn't just a bar--it's a whole experience. Every time we walked by, it was packed, and after being there... I get it. They're doing a lot right. If you're anywhere near Saugatuck--GO. Sit at the bar, order a drink, and just enjoy it. You'll probably end up staying longer than you planned too

And subsequently there was no wait to grab a table at the Butler. I've only ever been outside on their massive patio in the summer that they recently built, so this was the first time dining inside. It was definitely dated inside. Carpets throughout with an old school supper club vibe. The food was good, not great. Nothing noteworthy. Our family ordered got the Butler burger, mac and cheese with brisket, pickle fries, caesar salad, and the stuffed mushrooms. The service was probably the highlight. Our server was incredibly nice and even spoke Spanish to our uncles who were visiting us from Ecuador. He was super attentive and on top of everything. You should check them out in the summer and enjoy the patio views. Hold off on going during the winter if you're able to.

Our bartender kept saying they were so slow that everyone kept making mistakes--which was strange, given how empty the place was. Our order was wrong multiple times. The cheeseburger was greasy, and fries we didn't order showed up tasting like rancid oil. The onion rings we did order came out after we were basically done eating and were completely burnt and inedible. The chicken salad arrived with no chicken and kind of a sloppy mess. When we mentioned it, a plate of dried, overcooked chicken breast was brought out separately. The food overall felt like cheap diner food, but the prices are not cheap ($17-$24 for burgers and salads). The draft beers are good . We normally avoid eating here because the food is pretty abysmal. In the summer, the only real benefit is the patio. This visit just confirmed why we don't eat here--gave it another chance and now we are done

It's next door to their sister restaurant, Lovejoy. Walking in, the space is very dimly lit with a nice bar and some cozy seating. We were directed to a couch and a couple of low chairs. The menu is organized into different "chapters," with different themes for each chapter. They also have beer, wine, spirit-free options, and a spirits list. I wanted something fun, so I chose the Don the Beachcomber, a rum-based tiki cocktail that is flamed tableside. My friend got the Obstacle No. 1, which is a bourbon drink that they smoke at your table. Very theatrical and fun! These drinks were $20+ so pretty pricey, but worth it for a fun occasion. We had a nice time just relaxing and catching up. I would say it's not a great spot for a large group, but definitely a fun date night place. They have a small food menu of offerings from the restaurant next door that sounded tasty. We had just eaten but I'd be interested in their small plates. I'm so glad I got to experience this place. It feels like you're transported to a secret speakeasy when you enter!
