Stopped here to eat due to being in town for work. Food was really good! The service was good too, with the restaurant being much bigger than expected. The only downside was that when we went, it seemed a bit understaffed so it took a while to get our food. They also automatically put gratuity, which is fine, but it was 24%, which is the highest automatic gratuity I've ever seen. The spot is nice but I wouldn't necessarily recommend going with a super large group. read more

Was here on business and it was too cold to go anywhere else nearby. I believe the restaurant is newly renovated, so we were happy to see it open. Food was actually good and service was ok. Standard hotel restaurant experience. We all ordered; Fish and chips - two ordered this entree and both really liked it. Another ordered the nachos and a pizza - the nachos were a big hit and he also said the pizza was pretty standard, but good. Would definitely order the nachos again Chicken tenders and fries and a cup of the French onion soup. The soup was really good, loaded with onions and had a thick cheesy layer on top. Would definitely order again. Overall, it's a good spot to have if you don't have a car to explore other options. Have had the Sunday breakfast buffet 3 times now and everything was good. Employees are great!

I stopped in for an Old Fashioned. Bartender asked if I wanted a double, I said sure. For a double, it was still more on the sweeter side than the bourbon side but fine tasting enough that I ordered a second. Then I got my bill. $60 for two old fashioneds?!?! I understand an upcharge for a double, but not completely doubling the price of the original. I feel very taken advantage of because there's no reason for a double old fashioned to be $30 - downtown doesn't even charge that much. I also understand I said yes to a double, but I was thinking it'd be a reasonable $5-$7 upcharge - not $15. read more

I've been here twice in the past 2 weeks for work and this place is amazing, really. I had the Dominican pizza and the chicken caesar salad with grilled chicken. Both freshly made, quick service and delicious. The restaurant is located inside of the Double Tree but if I was a resident I'd eat here just because. Shout out to the employees in the hotel and restaurant all friendly. Diego, the bartender, specifically was very helpful and personable. 10/10 recommend! read more

The service was pretty quick and our waitress was extremely friendly. The grilled cheese was actually really really delicious. Beware that the top of the bread might rub the inside of your mouth the wrong way, but it's totally worth it. The sweet potato fries were top tier and I wish I got more. Sunday brunch was a huge disappointment. There were equipment problems in the kitchen so the buffet was the only option available. There was a very limited selection of fruits and breakfast items and to top it off, the coffee was weak. There were only three tables with guests yet my server seemed to want to rush me out. Hotel restaurants tend to be sub par and have the same SYSCO provided menu items... caesar salad, club sandwich, chicken wings and the like. Not here! Sure they have a burger... but this place specializes in local (or near local cuisine and the prices are great). What did I order from the lovely bartender? Well, first of all TOO MUCH. Fried cheese curds... (fricken amazing) and yes, I am a curd snob. Creamy chicken and Minnesota wild rice soup... not this will warm you up on those frigid Minnesota nights. Fried Walleye sandwich, in fairness... this was just too much food (although, it made a delicious breakfast). Happy Hour is a dollar off drinks and I think appetizers. read more

Stayed at the Doubletree and this restaurant is inside of it. Had breakfast there twice, pretty decent. Typical hotel breakfast buffet. Had dinner there the one night well I picked dinner up because it's really funky, you can order food from them but they don't have room service so you have to go down to the restaurant and pick it up but that's just a small inconvenience. So I ended up getting the rigatoni with sausage The rigatoni was fine, it came with artichokes pepper and tomatoes. and cheese lots and lots and lots of cheese. Which is a good thing. I would say the food was just OK. read more

The potato encrusted walleye here is really good and served with fingerling potatoes, steamed broccoli and cauliflower. I enjoyed this meal with a crisp, light cider. Others at my table ordered the burger and fries and were saying how delicious it was. I didn't get a photo of my neal because I was too busy digging right in! A highlight was the local MI ice cream for dessert. The butter pecan flavor was a creamy and sweet way to end the meal. I got a small cup buy you can also get an ice cream sandwich. A little pricier to eat here on site than going to a restaurant nearby, but it was a pretty good dining experience in a relaxed atmosphere. read more

This place hides in plain sight. It's located in the hotel on the corner of 28th & Patterson. You go in the hotel lobby and take a left. The inside is very nice and upscale looking restaurant. I came here because they have a Root Beer BBQ sauce. I ordered the Bbq Bacon Burger and a half order of Sweet Chili Chicken Wings. The Hamburger has local bacon and fried cheese on it in addition to the Root Beer Bbq sauce. The burger was good, but nothing special. Above average but below very good I would say. The Root Beer Bbq sauce was good. Not sure I tasted Root Beer, but I liked it. The fries were also good and maybe the best part of the meal. However I grew bored of them by the end. There was alot of them. Lastly the wings were TINY, shamefully small. I have never seen such small wings. That being said they were good, cooked just right. The sweet chili sauce was tasty. The service was great. Helped by two people. Everyone was super friendly and helpfull. Overall everything was good but nothing was great. For this I would leave 3 1/2 stars, however due to the shamefully small wings I am deducting a star. Leaving 2 1/2, great service deserves a reward so adding a half star. So my rating for Ganders is 3 stars. read more

This is an underrated place to eat. I stayed at the Doubletree and had the omelette in the morning and the hamburger for supper. Both were great. In fact it's one of the best hamburgers in Grand Rapids. The 80s music is like stepping into a time warp. read more

Got in late so decided to stay in the hotel restaurant and take a chance The food was about 3.5 stars. For hotel food it was pretty good. I got salmon which was local and cooked very well. The had a topping that was nice. It came on too many boring lentils and the broccoli on the side was sort of flat Nice beer selection so that added a few points The staff was super friendly. This is a surprisingly good bar/restaurant, given that it is connected to a hotel. These types of restaurants are notoriously bad, but that was not at all the case here. This place is clean, attractive to business professionals looking to meet, and has ample space. The bartenders were extremely professional and used proper measurements to serve drinks consistently. After drinking for a few hours, I decided to order a Rueben and onion rings. They were kind enough to put in a to go box so I could eat in my room. The food was absolutely fantastic. I'm normally skeptical of places like this, but was very pleased. I'd even consider staying at the hotel, just to have access to quality food and drink. read more

Exceptional service, beyond incredible food, nice surroundings with great 80s tunes! Seriously, the best meal my husband and I have had out in a very long time. If we lived in beautiful GR, we'd eat there every day. It is a must, you gotta check it out! Edamame to start, a fabulous Rose', he had the award winning Reuben, and I had the power bowl with chicken...to die for!!! If we would've had room in our bellies, we would've split the grilled bread pudding. That'll be the next visit, we truly look forward to someday going back to Gander's. Easter Brunch at Ganders was a special treat! Everything was really well executed! Some of my favorite brunch items were the seared salmon , shrimp cocktail, and cheese cake, but everything was so delicious! There were so many different selections and the staff was so welcoming. This review is for the breakfast buffet, which is served daily until 10am. It's only $12 per person, which I think is a great value for the quality of the food they're offering. When I went, the buffet included scrambled eggs, scrambled eggs with cheese & veggies, sausage links, bacon, breakfast potatoes, French toast, steel cut oats, cold cereal, assorted juices, house smoked salmon, fresh fruit, yogurt, homemade bread, bagels, and muffins. You also have an option of ordering an omelet with no extra charge. The dining area is cozy and clean. Everything I ate was the correct temperature, fresh, and cooked correctly. No rubbery scrambled eggs! The homemade bread was great. The people working were friendly and seemed happy to be there... this is the best breakfast buffet I've ever been to. Cheeseburger, french fries and ranch were really good! The waitress I got was very sweet and attentive, even though my order was a to-go order. The french fries were probably the best I've had. Most of the rest of the food is disgusting and just plain not as described. The tomatoes in the chicken bruschetta were dark brown and the bruschetta itself was placed on the bread with an ice cream scoop, that's how congealed it was. There's some type of shrimp popper in the menu, it's basically like a hush puppy with tiny pieces of shrimp in it but is described as breaded shrimp. read more

Came here for our regular monthly friends' lunch and were allowed to special order from the dinner menu and one entree not on any menu. Every meal was prepared very well and presented well. We try out a different Grand Rapids area restaurant every month (a three year tradition) and rate Ganders with the best. Staff is very friendly and accommodating. Fish flaky and breaded with a delicate, crisp coating; salmon dinner perfection; and, rib eye steak perfectly cooked as ordered. Sides were just as good. Will definitely be back! I try not to eat at hotels, but a coworker suggested meeting here for lunch. This is the former Spinnaker - Hilton converted to Doubletree. The story of the name is from Michiganders and they try to use locally sourced product. I'm used to hotel food pricing and this was as expected - pricier than most non hotel restaurants in the area. I was pleasantly surprised to find a hidden gem. Their small chicken Cobb salad was a huge portion for only $6. I dressed it with their rootbeer bbq sauce and it was a meal onto itself. Server asked if I wanted to mix some ranch as well which I will try next time. For my main, I went with the perch tacos. Not a lot of perch per taco, but fried nicely and very tasty. The best part of the meal was their tater tots. The best way to describe them: small eggs of hash browny goodness and "Gandered" with Bell's (local beer) cheese, bacon (some farm name) and green onions. I would come back just for these. Best tater tots in town! Service was quick, friendly and attentive. Definitely worth giving a try. read more

3.5 stars. Very friendly staff. Good menu. Clean. Very efficient placing order to go (spicy chicken sandwich). Sandwich was huge; served with a bunch of fries. My only complaint that kept it from 4 stars was that the bottom of the bun fell apart in your hand. Sandwich had so much on it, it soaked the bottom bun and just turned into a messy disaster. While I didn't expect this to be a nice restaurant, it's a Double Tree so I was expecting better than a corner bar. Disappointing all around. Seat yourself and wait 10 minutes for someone to offer you a menu. Then wait 15 more before they come. No, it wasn't busy but it wasn't dead either. Appetizer cane with meal, Order came back wrong, and to top it off the food was not worth the cost or the wait. The chili tasted pretty good but it promised a specific locally sourced cracker. The saltines clearly were not. The Pretzel Roll was neither a good pretzel or good bread. It found a limbo that satisfies neither. Unless you're just there for a popular local microbrew while you watch a football game, Do the right thing - order a pizza or get in an Uber and eat somewhere else. read more

I have stayed at this double tree multiple times over several years and it has greatly gone down hill with the owner only caring about money and not about a satisfied Hilton customer. On Saturday of my current stay the restaurant failed to bring my scheduled room service breakfast. That same evening refused to serve me dinner at 10:35 with their menu clearly stating they serve dinner every night until 11:00 and their website saying they are open until 12:00 on Saturday. My room was a mess talcum powder every in they bar area, carpet dirty missing base board and left like this for days until I complained. If this issue is not rectified I am moving my three week stay and not come back. Hilton should should review this hotel and evaluate its double tree status. read more

Had high hopes upon reading previous reviews but we were sorely disappointed. To start most of their pints of beer were priced between 50-60% higher than anywhere else in town. $8 for a pint of Founders! Really? Mark-up much? The menu was also more expensive than appealing. We ordered the 8 piece chicken wings. The bartender warned us "Now our wings are on the small side" "um okay..." at least she warned us. Small is generous when describing the wings. TINY, microscopic is even better. They were swimming in a wading pool vat of sauce, it was like playing a Where's Waldo game with wings. Now to be fair they had good flavor but they were about a bite of meat on each. I love that they are from a local farm, no antibiotics or hormones but seriously as Moses would have said "let my chickens GROW!" Our service was good there was a bit of a distraction when patrons at the end of the bar decided to have a domestic row culminating in glass throwing against the wall...not really a great vibe. Overall for the price point there is nothing here that you can't find somewhere else in Grand Rapids for much much less. read more

Wandered in for dinner while staying in Grand Rapids for a business trip. The service was a tad slow and I never got my glass of water. However, the food was amazing. I can't believe this restaurant received 4 stars. I was staying at the Double Tree and was starving. Left my bags at the front desk and headed to the restaurant. I ordered the Walleye Fish with and substituted the potatoes for cream polenta. I waited for my food for 45 minutes and when it arrived, the fish was buried in the polenta soup. I could not believe the chef would expect anyone to eat this. Well, still starving I ordered a burger! Another 30 minutes passed and finally received my food. The burger was good, but was so tired I only was able to finish half. This restaurant needs new management, servers and absolutely a new CHEF. read more

I travel way to much and spend many nights in hotel. Ganders was by far one of the best restaurants I have eaten at. The wine list is very good, had the tuna app, perfectly cooked, walleye for my entree, excellent hot and fresh and the doubletree cookie sundae for desert, words can not describe how good that was.
