The study was beautifully decorated, warm and inviting. Cameron took care of us. Nice guy and attentive. Hubby and I started with cocktails. He had an interesting bourbon drink with aperol and amaro. It was so good - and pretty! I had my usual bees knees. Missed the mark unfortunately. It had some fizz, which it should just be gin, lemon and honey. No soda. We ordered the deviled eggs as a starter. They were made with dijon and cornichons, topped with paprika, chives and lardon. Such a delicious bite. Hubby had the salmon tacos from the daily special menu. He loved the Spanish rice that came on the plate and the perfectly seasoned moist salmon. I had the seafood tagliatelle with shrimp, crab, salmon belly, fennel, and capers in a vodka sauce topped with toasted breadcrumbs. It was amazing! Breakfast at Evergreen Inn…read more This morning, in the spirit of liberty and breakfast carbs, I ventured out to the Evergreen Inn to celebrate the Fourth with a fork. Their specials board boasted a short stack paired with a choice of meat--how could I resist? I threw in a couple of scrambled eggs to round things out and waited for the fireworks (on my plate, that is). The pancakes arrived looking like golden perfection--fluffy, inviting, ready to be drenched. Unfortunately, the syrup rations were a bit...conservative. I wouldn't say stingy, but let's just say I had to request two more cups to give those cakes the celebration they deserved. The eggs? Fine. Serviceable. I suspect they started life in a carton, already liquefied and waiting for their destiny. The sausages were decent, the chocolate milk was nostalgic in all the right ways, and the cutlery had clearly survived a few wars of its own. And the ketchup--oh, the ketchup. A bottle proudly labeled "Fancy" does not make it so. If someone brought that stuff to a backyard BBQ, I'd stage a condiment coup and return with a bottle of Heinz. Now, let's talk ambiance.
