I was looking for a breakfast place on Google Maps around this area and this looked worthy of giving it a shot. Mom ordered a half order of the biscuits and gravy w/ a side of hash browns and I ordered a custom omelette with hash browns, onion, ham, and cheese. Food came out hot and fast! Ginormous fluffy omelette, asked the waitress and she said it's made with SIX eggs! No wonder there's a note in the menu for splitting plates with your s/o Very tasty. My only note is that the onions were a bit crunchy yet and a little strong in flavor- I liked them, but I know not everyone does. I tried a little bit of the gravy and it was also very tasty. Mom said she knows good biscuits and gravy, and agreed that these were delicious. She also ordered hot tea and was able to take the rest to go. Although the interior looked like it hadn't been updated since 1981 when the establishment became the "Home of The Big Breakfast" as noted on the menu, it was very neat and tidy and clean inside the restaurant. Just need a laminator for their menus.

This place is always busy, but they still get the food out hot. At least every time I have gone there. This trip we ordered the meat lovers omelette and the biscuits and gravy. My wife liked her omelette and I was just itching to get me some biscuits and gravy that day. They hit the spot. Waitress was very friendly and on top of things. Never had to ask for a refill. Definitely will be back again.

The only place in town that knows what crispy well done hash browns are!!! Look at that golden brown crispy goodness! Friendly, helpful service and good simple breakfast food. Can not go wrong!

My mom and I intended to have brunch at that new funky-looking Electric Hero sandwich shop that recently opened up on Northland Drive, but sadly, they're closed on Sundays. We were both super hungry, so we just wandered over to the nearest open restaurant, which happened to be this place. Another bland breakfast place. Bland interior, bland menu, bland clientele, bland waitresses wearing all-white shoes and sporting mullets...about as kill-me-now-Midwestern as a restaurant could possibly be. It was that strange feeling that I've been here before, about million other times, in a million other locations throughout my lifetime, and all of my past-lives as well, so I knew the drill well.. I ordered a Greek omelette (but had them make it a scramble instead) with well-done hashbrowns and rye toast. Their Greek omelette version comes with spinach, tomatoes, onions, feta, and quite strangely, swiss cheese. I knew this would be a long shot, but I asked the waitress if they could possibly add Kalamata olives to my scramble (to make it ummm... more... Greek?), but I was met with a perplexed look and an "ummmmm...", so I asked if they could just add black olives to it instead, and she didn't know if they had any, so she would have to ask for me. I told her to just ask them and if not, no big deal, i could make due without the olives. Our orders took quite a long time to arrive, considering the restaurant wasn't especially busy. No big deal though... Upon first inspection, my immediate gut reaction was to remove the curious half-melted Kraft Singles Swiss cheese slice that lightly blanketed the top of my scramble and wrapped it up in a napkin, so I wouldn't have to look at it and hopefully forget it was ever there. No olives either. Oh well. Everything else checked out alright though and I went to town. Not bad, but also not great. Nothing special or memorable, but it was fine, since my expectations were already set pretty low, it did do the trick. And it was relatively cheap. But honestly, there's nothing at New Beginnings to draw me back next time I'm in the breakfast food mood. I'm much more likely to pay $3 or so more for a more interesting and satisfying breakfast at Anna's House or Real Food Cafe. At least those places will have Kalamata olives on deck and I won't have to feel like I'm eating in a hospital cafeteria.

Great food and service. Newer place so it's clean and wait staff friendly and attentive. Omelets are huge but they have to go boxes if needed. Will be stopping in again. Updated after posting the original review. Waitress took off at the end of the meal. Had to get my own to go container for flip sake. Also at checkout they do not ask to include a tip as previous postings indicated. Good job Yelpers if this annoying practice was stopped because of reviews.

My boyfriend and I stumbled in during happy hour and were happy to grab some cheap drinks, but the main event was the burger! We typically like sitting at the bar as well and chat with the bartender who was absolutely lovely! The dirty martini was okay but I will definitely order something else next time as the olives just didn't hit for me. It's a quaint and quiet spot - you can read that as intimate - since it's not loud or rowdy, so if you want a really sweet date spot, feel free to check this one out! Otherwise, you can just go and have a casual, delicious dinner. Parking is limited with the street parking and it being so close to Monroe Center but you shouldn't have a terrible time finding something, even if requires a parking ramp vs street parking. I'd just recommend a reservation if you are going on a weekend or don't want to wait/sit at the bar!

This was my first time at at Little Bird and it definitely did not disappoint. However, I now see why it's called Little Bird because the inside is definitely small but that just adds to the ambiance. My husband and I came here for brunch on a Saturday because it's a place we both can eat at (he's not vegan). When we walked in the restaurant was bustling and packed, but we got seated right away by the door which was cool because we could people watch. Our server greeted us immediately and filled our glasses with water. She was nice and answered all of our questions. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised with my brunch choices which were the soup of the day, a lentil curry, pumpkin seed combo with tons of good seasoning and cilantro on top...it was soooo good and vegan friendly! For my entree I got the tofu sandwich with the most amazing side salad that had this lemon dressing that set it off right! I could have just had a plate of the salad! Although the tofu sandwich was good, it was a bit on the salty side for my taste, but I still enjoyed it. I would definitely recommend this place for vegan options and I'd come back. Just be aware they don't take reservations for brunch and it's pretty loud, but it's a really cute establishment and I was pleased with the food and service. Give it a try!!!

It was a 45 minute wait today but my friend and I found seats at the bar and got coffee while we waited and we were able to order our food shortly after. Our waiter, Drew, was amazing and knew my friend from being a regular. He checked in on us frequently and made sure our coffee was full while we waited on the food. Since they were pretty slammed, our food took some time to come out but it was worth the wait. I tried the Jamaican jerk chicken frittata that my friend recommended and the spread was beautiful and it was delicious. If you like sweet and savory, this is the perfect dish with chicken and veggies in jerk sauce on top of frittata eggs topped with cheese and pineapple. Yum! The portion size covered the whole plate so I have leftovers for tomorrow! My friend got the steak and eggs and her gf got the hash Benedict. They both have been here before and I see why they went back. I will also be back soon! Other things to note is they have a shared parking lot so this is helpful if you don't want to do street parking. Also I would describe the ambiance as a higher-end diner with great service!

So when my family and I were walking around downtown Grand Rapids and needed a place to eat breakfast, we popped into Social Misfits because their menu is basically 90% waffles. My kids love waffles. Every kid loves waffles. Waffles it is! This is a great restaurant for families (because ... waffles), but also a great restaurant for adults because they have a nice selection of creative cocktails in the evening, and coffee in the morning. Social Misfits is basically waffles, alcohol and caffeine, in that order. When we visited in the morning, the adults opted for coffee (really great black coffee!) and the kids both opted for the Little Lad, a waffle topped with strawberries, blueberries and chantilly cream (basically whipped cream, but a little sweeter and whipped a little longer). Both of my children ate most of their waffle, which is a big thing, considering they usually eat like birds. We also got the Son of a Biscuit, which was a garlic parmesan waffle topped with chicken sausage gravy and a fried egg. You could add fried chicken to the mix for an extra $6 (we did not). This one was fine, but the egg was way overcooked! Oh well. Lastly: We got the Ol' Blue Eyes, a waffle topped with blueberry compote, lemon curd, whipped ricotta and graham cracker crumbs. This one tasted amazing, but there was so much blueberry compote and lemon curd that it made the waffle a bit soggy. I think the chef was feeling generous with the toppings, but homie needed to hold back a tad. Sometimes, a little bit goes a long way! Fifty percent less gloppy stuff would have made this waffle dish 100% better. If you ain't really about that waffle life, then not to worry. Social Misfits also has a few "not waffles" items on the menu, like salads, sandwiches and a couple of bar snacks. But I think if you visit this restaurant, you need to just embrace waffles. There are more than a dozen different waffles on the menu. They're all fun and well-thought-out. Pick one and eat waffles for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Honestly it was an incredible location for a space and had such a great vibe inside. My best friend is a regular at the restaurant and we're hoping to see them more in smaller capacities like when we saw them at the Fulton St. Market. Overall, the food was really good. I like the concept of fast-casual dining without the need to have a server. I think it allows things to feel more casual and allowed for me to be more willing to eat there (obviously in other circumstances lol). I got the horchata hot cakes with some of the papas with ghost sauce. I thought the pancakes were GREAT and more than worth it for the price. I was surprised how large and fluffy they were. The flavor was great without being too sweet and none of the flavors being too overpowering. My friends got the breakfast sandwiches and chaichata drinks and absolutely loved them. My friend loved her drink so much she got two within the span of us eating. I know it's a hard time for local businesses but I'm hoping there are more ways we can still see them around.

Different from the last time I was here but we were told to find a seat upon entering and that when we were ready, we could order our food at the counter. I looked over their menu and found lots of good breakfast taco options, the breakfast burrito I have heard is great, but what really caught my attention was the biscuits and gravy. I was feeling quite ravenous this morning and got the full order for $11 and a side of bacon. They had a table close to the entrance with extra menus, clean cups, water jugs, hot sauces, silverware and napkins. Seemed like a help-yourself vibe which I grabbed everything we would need for our meal. Our food was brought to us rather quickly and my bf ordered the breakfast bowl with scrambled eggs and sausage. He told me it tasted so good and he loved that he could make his own tacos with his food. He let me try one of the hashbrown rounds and it was perfectly crispy! My biscuits and gravy were phenomenal. The biscuits were so fresh and the gravy had a really nice and comforting flavor to it. You could get chorizo and mushrooms in your gravy but i went with a traditional sausage for my protein. My bacon on the side came in a tiny dish but I ate all four pieces haha. Once we finished, there were some bus bins under the same table with the silverware, we placed all our dirty dishes there and cleaned up after ourselves before leaving. I honestly felt so content leaving there and can't wait to return. I really appreciate the ambiance in there with the beautiful plant life, the lights on the ceiling, and cool decor in general. The staff was also SO NICE! Wins everywhere. I also noticed people coming in for takeout which is good to know in case I don't feel like dining in some morning. Please check this place out sometime if you're in the mood for some really good breakfast that doesn't break your bank account.
