I've been here a few times now during lunch time on weekdays. They always have a steady crowd but we have never had to wait to be seated. The servers are always super nice and pretty quick! They seem to be understaffed most of the time but it has literally never affected the quality of service. I've only ever ordered breakfast here. It's so good. Hits the spot every time and they always cook my eggs perfect to how I ordered them. Their sausage patties are very tasty as well. This past visit, I ordered chocolate chip pancakes (buttermilk pancake platter add chocolate chips) and they were delish! I think their pricing is good. I do wish they had Coke instead of Pepsi but that's not a big worry anyways. Will def be coming back here time and time again! read more

Red Geranium is one of my favorite breakfast spots in Grand Rapids. It's perfect for a Sunday morning breakfast, although beware of the wait. There is usually a waitlist every time I go so I add myself to the waitlist online before I get there and a table is usually ready by the time I get there. I like how they have the text message feature to let you know when your table is ready. In the warmer months they have outdoor seating available as well. Can't go wrong with a Pig Pile skillet and the Country Fried Steak! Also love their homemade jam. They have strawberry and raspberry which are both delicious! It's a typical small diner feel. I love that you're able to sit in the little bar area right next to the chefs even though I've never sat there before. Overall if you're looking for a very filling, home-y breakfast spot, Red Geranium is the spot. read more

The downside: 1) The breakfast bowls are bursting with lots of boring potatoes to serve as filler. And there's nothing exceptional about the sausage. Pretty ordinary. 2) The hot water flavored coffee is atrocious! Invest in good quality coffee folks! 3) The place could use some attention to cleaning. Before today I would have called myself a regular, that's until I met Brian. Brian happened to get to the bar five minutes after me be greeted servers and cooks and get his meal before I was even asked what my order was. My server (not his) got his drink and managed to check on him 2x as much as she did me. Food was delicious overall though pancakes were a little bland. The Red Geranium Café is the quintessential "everywhere" eatery - I've dined in this minimalist décor many times, from Alaska to Tahiti - that expression of communal food served in simple, unpretentious surroundings. Miranda, my server this morning, was bubbly, enthusiastic, and knew the menu well. She cheerfully endorsed one of my choices as a repeat favorite of "the construction guys"; how could I say no? The Pig Pile (sausage, ham, bacon, cheddar, tater tots, sausage gravy, topped with two eggs) is savory, filling, and entertaining. They're something so hotel about a breakfast that uses tater tots! For my sweetie, fast asleep at home, I got the Sugar Bread (cinnamon bread with icing). That'll get her going! Tasty coffee, endlessly refilled without my noticing, didn't hurt my ebullient mood. We were really excited to try this cafe for breakfast -but it didn't go well for a few reasons. I got sick, my meal was NOT tasty (though my partner's was), and the cost -$30 for two breakfasts with water (not including tip) was really expensive considering portion, quality, and breakfast costs. Although it initially felt like no one wanted to be the ones to seat us, staff were very friendly. We ordered the pig pile and country fried steak. The country fried steak was very good -cooked to perfection and flavored nicely. The pig pile tasted like there was rancid/cheap pork product in it, the eggs weren't cooked as requested, and I got sick as I left the restaurant. The country fried steak was good -but we will probably not return because of the cost. On top of high menu costs, there was a 3% surcharge to cover the rising costs of food -I'm not sure why they didn't just change menu prices, but it seemed to be a bit much on top of already inflated costs. read more

Red Geranium Cafe is only 5 minutes away from my house and this cute little nook has become my weekend go to (or at least that's what i want for it to be). i was invited by a dear friend to catch up over some coffee and a nice breakfast at the red geranium café on kalamazoo ave. i pass through this location weekly and i judged it for being something similar to a bagel beanery - completely wrong. we arrived a little past 8.30 in the morning and the restaurant was thriving with countless happy customers. there were 2-3 waitresses and two cooks and they worked harmoniously with one another to tend to the tables that were filling up and to push out orders. my friend and i took a bit to order but once we did, we settled for the basic staples of breakfast food - she ordered the french toast platter and i ordered a specialty pancake platter with cinnamon pancakes. when it comes to american breakfast im always craving something sweet - this combination fulfilled its job. the portions are more than filling. the eggs came out perfect, bacon not burnt but perfectly crispy without it being dry, and my two pancakes were soft, moist and full of flavor. im looking forward to come back and try their other savory platters. red geranium has been added to the books! read more

I love this restaurant! It can get very busy. Usually I have a little bit of a wait every time I eat here. I have eaten at this location and the one in Wyoming/Byron as well. The food is always consistent and always good. Personally, I have not had a bad meal there. I always eat the breakfast foods and my personal favorite is the pig pile with the tater tots. They also have amazing how much which I recommend. I will continue coming here for a delicious breakfast! The wait is worth it! read more

I've always considered the Red G a go to place for meeting friends and having good food. After today's breakfast I will never go back to the one in Gaines Twp again. I have never felt so rushed and pushed to get out of a restaurant. The food was good but the service was horrible. The waitress didn't make eye contact. She was what I call a drive by waitress from the beginning. She made it clear right away that she was busy and didn't have time for us. She literally poured coffee on the table because she was pouring and walking away at the same time! I didn't feel like I could linger and catch up with my friend because she kept coming over asking if we were done. She had her manager come and ask us to leave. There were people at nearby tables who had been there longer than I had been. From start to finish I was there for 90 minutes. That may be a little long, but I felt pushed from the moment I sat down. I have never felt as uncomfortable in a restaurant as I did today. I don't care how good the food is. When the service is as rude as this woman was then I'll take my business elsewhere. read more

We normally hit the restaurant over on Byron Center Ave in Wyoming. This time we were on the other side of town, so we stopped at the place on Kalamazoo Ave near M-6. We ordered breakfast on July 4th as takeout. My dish was TERRIBLE. It was the Ranchero skillet which included eggs, chicken, & avocado over hash browns. I'm trying to figure out why was my avocado so black! I get a little heat from the food turning it slightly brown, but no this was placed on there as "a pass rip avocado." The chicken was so incredibly hard I just threw it away. That chicken was so rough I probably could have used it as a power tool. The food itself was extremely, and I mean extremely bland! Like no salt no pepper, no nothing. Maybe there was seasoning on the chicken but past one bite I don't remember. Our total was $27 so I basically paid $13.50 for eggs and hash browns that I had to season. Worst part is when I called to tell them..no one would picked up the phone. Thanks to Mario we will not be back. He did a great job at making our group of 4 feel very unwelcome. We did not realize we were early when we walked in thru the unlocked door at 6:59. He proceeded to not answer us when we said good morning, he slammed everything he could get his hands on, refused to acknowledge we were there. He walked towards the back and yelled out thst people are walking in early. We decided to to leave and had an amazing breakfast at the 76th st diner, right around the corner. All the food is Really Good.. but they have 1 Fault.. On every table and the counter as well, you'll see a sign stating: If you buy $50.00 you'll get a card for the $50.00 Plus CERTIFICATES.. Last time I checked When I got anything by itself it is called a Certificate! The message says Certificates! Great place to sit and chat with a friend, but be prepared to wait. They are very busy. Well it is a pretty busy place and has counter service which is very quick and attentive. But while sitting at counter you are looking directly at the area they cook breakfast which frankly is a little scary. It is not clean at all and I don't mean the mess is from today it's been there a while. As for did I had a corn beef hash skillet which was pretty bad, canned hash and just a mess no texture at all. Service was very good and they kept my coffee cup full overall very disappointed particularly with all the positive reviews. Probably would not return there must be something better in area I just need to find it. read more
