I am a BIG fan of pie and when I need pie one of my stops will be Bob Evans. We arrived at 11:30om on a Sunday and were seated promptly. I ordered the turkey sandwich and my mother enjoyed the pot roast. Our waitress Lilly was kind and fast to get us extra napkins, water, and of course when it came to desert pumpkin pie! I went to use the restroom and within that 1/2 hour time from arrivong to is being there they had a wait for seating as the restaurant is now packed. Everyone moving about greeting people, cleaning tables, taking orders and cashing out. Like a perfect dance. The restaurant has a great family feel and the banana bread was displayed nicely at checkout if interested to purchase to take home. Our server took our huge table's order without writing it down, dealt with a bunch of kids, nonsense, and chaos and still was great. So it's way too early to be awake, and I'm here at the Bob Evans closest to my digs. With all the reviews I've read I have a bit of trepidation stepping over the threshold, but it's nothing like I was led to expect. The place is brightly lighted, the workers are bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, complete with a clear greeting, happy smile, and purpose. The clientele is varied, both by age and socioeconomic strata. (I hear retirees and kids discussing adding NO2 to their cars' engines.) From the Bowls & Skillets section of the very large menu I pick The Everything Breakfast ("includes Bob Evans' sausage, hickory-smoked ham, hardwood-smoked bacon, three scrambled fresh-cracked eggs, tomatoes, cheddar cheese, and hollandaise sauce on a bed of hash browns. Served with a freshly-baked biscuit.") because why not? The steaming, hot coffee arrives within moments, with a side of half-and-half; the proffered French Vanilla creamer gets a thumbs-down. The coffee is tasty, has a great aroma, and stays drinkable over the few minutes it cools. That, in itself, is a wonderful wake-up treat. The food arrives in less than five minutes. (Not something I usually clock, but given some of the whinging I've read, something I was considering.) It's a big bowl, covered from edge to edge. Each element contributes its own flavor: the sausage is earthy, the ham is sweet and smokey, and the hollandaise goes well with the eggs and the meat. As I watch the shaved cheddar cheese melting I realize that I'm happy to be digging into something so hearty. It's not perfect. The hash browns should've had another half-minute on the griddle, the cold tomatoes are a discordant note that would've been better warm, and a big 'ol spoon would be a way better method of attacking this open-faced omelette than the fork that I have. The biscuit is a bit confusing. It's dry. Why? I ask for some sausage gravy - which arrives in seconds - and things look up. The gravy is rich and the biscuit soaks up it's umami goodness. Oh, the waitress brings butter and jelly, which work even better than the gravy; perhaps I needed sweet to counter the savory. I have to say, this breakfast is exactly as advertised. My server, Katy (or is it Kelly, as the cheque suggests), has been just fantastic this morning. I am pleased with myself for giving Bob Evans a try. The sweatheart is happily making noises as she digs through the take-away contents, so there's another up-vote. Two people full on one breakfast and ready for a day of exploring more of Grand Rapids. Enjoyed the company and traditional food at Bob Evans. Alilisha welcomed us with energy and a smile and took good care of us. The menu is full of options, and I decided to order from the all day breakfast menu. I indulged by getting the double meat farmer's choice, while my wife got her usual pot roast dinner. Our guests ate the lemon chicken and the other tried the roast beef with chicken noodle soup. All were satisfied and took home boxes of food for a second meal. Most Sundays; the restaurant is full, with long lines of mainly older customers. The atmosphere is bright, and friendly, with lively conversations around us. Our server Randi was very hospitable and tried very hard to accommodate our table and the others. The issue was the kitchen was slow, real slow getting the food out. Food was okay, my sister's french toast was soaked in strawberry syrup after ordering the berry farmer's market and so it became too pungent for her to eat but it was good besides that. Hot chocolate made the meal a lot better but the whipped cream made it taste a little creamy, like the whipped cream gave it a bad aftertaste. I got the pancakes and they tasted very oily and stuck to the roof of my mouth. The water was very disgusting, tasted like tap water from the back. The bacon was dry and the hot fries were very cold but the sasusage links were very delicious and hot. The service was okay though, manager was very sweet and nice and she comped our order for the food we didn't like nor eat and we also received a discount at checkout. There is not one thing on the menu that is even remotely healthy. I hate everything about Bob Evan's, even their salads are an insult on your cardiovascular system. Sadly, this about the only place my 92 year old mother will eat at when we are out running errands and I am forced to sit in this gravy covered greasy spoon watching my mom slurp down a stroke on a plate, even the coffee tastes like they brewed it through a dirty sock. Worse than not good. HORRIBLE, if I could leave a worse review I would. We ordered literally EGGS AND PANCAKES and it took 50 minutes. Our server didn't check in on us once. Pre ordered thanksgiving food day before. Went to pick up and was greeted with a hungry angry mob of people and an unprecedented level of incompetence concerning the Bob Evan's team and restaurant. They clearly took too many pre orders to fill. The staff are plane nasty. Even telling a man waiting "shut up". Like it's an inconvenience to them to do their job. And nothing we can do. I came into this place just a few days ago. I don't know if you recall but MI was experiencing one heat wave. As most places are closed around 3-4pm Bob Evans was not. I'm not from MI and visiting from CA but I usually don't have high expectations for food. So imagine my EXTREME hesitation when I saw through yelp that this place had ONE star rating. BUT nothing else was open. The restaurant was empty which made me seriously want to turn around. I was then drawn towards the friendly gentlemen and possibly my angry stomach for starving it. Ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and also the Waffles. Food came quick and the server was very nice in asking if we were comfortable. Maybe its just me, but these portions were pretty BIG I attempted to order ice coffee but was politely told it wasn't on the menu, which was cool. One order of waffles, which took up the ENTIRE plate. There are 2 options for the Chicken Fried Steak, breakfast OR dinner. I chose the breakfast option which came with homestyle potatoes and my choice of bread (banana nut bread, rolls, or slice). The banana nut bread was super moist and really satisfying. I was actually full off the bread and coffee. The Chicken Fried Steak was the usual, nothing spectacular BUT nothing bad. The homestyle potatoes could have used a lil more seasoning, but ok. Ehhhhh. That's my first thought for my experience at this location. Lets start with the service it was ehh i had to wait for 4-5 mins for someone to notice me and seat me. Then the waitress I had was ehh she didn't seem to care about her job and it showed. Plus during the meal when she did show up to ask if I needed anything else my pop was bone dry. I had to ask for both my refills, big negative to me. Now on to the meal. I had the meatloaf with mashed Potatos, buttered corn, onion petals, and pumpkin bread with a root beer. It was all ehhh except the bread. The meatloaf had little taste and was too dense. The mashed potatoes were bland. The corn was lacking in real taste. The onion petals were boring. That being said the pumpkin bread was very good. Even the pop was wrong, small glasses and all ice three sips and your out. I won't be back for dinner. Will never come here again. 45 min and still waiting on carry out. 50 min a bag with my name but no seating other people with no sign of life or acknowledgement. Every time we come here, we remember why we don't come here more often. Service is slow. Lots of workers but generally they are doing all the wrong things. No multitasking at all. It's really the only place to eat on a Sunday, but with covid, they aren't even working at 100% capacity and are still slow. Welp, it's no Applebee's, but as chain restaurants with value-specials on breakfast, lunch, and dinner, I was pleasantly surprised by the service and food. I came here with a group for a Christmas Eve family lunch. It was busy when we arrived but they still sat our large party quickly and the service remained quick and friendly throughout our meal. I ordered a cup of broccoli and cheddar soup and a small apple, spinach salad. The soup had the taste and consistency of melted Velveeta but Bob Evans sells themselves as a comfort food place so I guess I can't be mad. And secretly I like Velveeta. My salad was marked as a healthy option on their menu and it was indeed healthy and a manageable portion size. Décor is lacking but...well, it's no Applebee's. I didn't have high expectations for ambiance. Still, it clean and tidy when we visited. Not sure I will be back again this way soon but my experience was markedly better than I anticipated. Last night I visited this restaurant with my parents, and the service we received was far below standards. Our server, Jacob, could be described as inattentive at best, though "out to lunch" might be a more apt description. While reviewing the menu, my father mentioned not being able to eat onions, and rather than offer recommendations or checking to see if an item could be made without, Jacob simply walked away from the table. After we placed our order, he forgot any conditional items we required - my father is diabetic and requested sugar-free syrup for his pancakes. On top of that, the portion sizes were smaller than we've seen before, as my father received a meager helping of potatoes with his breakfast and my own pot roast sandwich only included beef on approximately half the sandwich. Wait times were long, despite the restaurant not seeming particularly busy, and no one seemed to be paying attention to little things like coffee and water refills or making sure condiments weren't still factory sealed. I'm aware of how difficult food service can be, and I try to make allowances for off days, but this experience was sub-par from arrival to exit. read more

When we complained she said yea I know, it was all we had & were brewing more now, I will bring out when it's done. Finally after we asked again she brought some out. Candied bacon wasn't worth the order. Also didn't bring beverage we ordered - had to ask for it. So very disappointed. What used to be a great experience has turned into boxed and frozen food gone wrong! Chicken fried steak was definitely a frozen pressed meat of some kind. Mashed potatoes were instant. Eggs Benedict was really bad. Very little hollandaise sauce and very over cooked presliced ham. However even with those factors, the place is undeniably clean and there is this unescapable homey feel. My usual is the chicken fried steak and two sides. I LOVE their chicken fried steak. The service was horrible here. We went for a late lunch late Sunday afternoon, so not a busy time. We waited 15 minutes for our waitress to come ask for our drink order. I watched her behind the bar chit chatting with her coworkers. Once we were done with our food we waited over 15 minutes for our waitress to refill our drinks, and take our plates. I've been to this location countless times in the past two years. The only reason I return is that my boyfriend loves the BOGO deals they send him via email. We don't usually have to wait long to be seated, but we have experienced long wait times after we place our food orders and when we ask for drink refills or dessert. The food is hit or miss. I had the pot roast one time and it was quite good, but the last time we were there (less than two weeks ago) the onions were completely uncooked. The turkey meal was very bland, suitable for a hospital diet. The waitress didn't even bring us any butter and didn't visit the table at all after giving us the check; the manager indicated she is required to do so per company policy. I prepared an online complaint after our last visit and the manager called me, but he did not offer any discount or gift card. I give up. read more

Ran out of coffee twice. Food was good, but it usually is. The prices are just now becoming comparable to others, but it's still a little higher than it should be.
