Sweet potato fries
Christian S.

After visiting the smaller place of "Mrs Mac Kitchen" we decided on our way back from Key West to stop for lunch at the bigger "Mrs Mac Kitchen". We had two times the soup of the day, a wedge salad and sweet potato fries plus our drinks (coke, ginger ale and beer with and without alcohol). In total we paid $59.36. The food was good, but the soup was a little salty. The staff was nice and friendly. Overall I would give 3.5 stars, rounded do 4. Would I go again? Probably not, I would look for something else.

Did not like it here. Weird vibe as soon as we got there. Guy said Lunch? We said yes. Then turned and ran to a table. Overpriced for what you get.! Fries were BLAH!! Waffle fries were just as bad. Soup good but bowl was $9 Shrimp poor boy $20 For 6 shrimp and bread. Only one sever and she was rushing around like crazy. Lunch 2 sandwiches 1 soup $63 Better options available on this road.

Both locations of Mrs. Mac's were on my must-visit list in the Florida Keys after our snorkeling trip. I had hoped to try the original (smaller) spot, but it closes early in the afternoon. Since we took our time after snorkeling, we ended up at the newer, larger location, which stays open all day. We arrived around 3:15 p.m. to find it nearly empty--just two tables of guests and a couple of people at the bar. The space is open and quiet- very relaxed vibe. Our waitress was sweet. My daughter wanted mahi, and I was eyeing the coconut shrimp, so she suggested we get the mahi and shrimp basket and upgrade it to coconut shrimp. Great call! Both the mahi and the coconut shrimp were outstanding--fresh, tender, juicy, and clearly caught that day. The batter was thin, crisp, and perfectly light. We also ordered a Greek salad, which was unbelievably fresh; every ingredient was delicious and full of flavor. No exaggeration--this was the best mahi, coconut shrimp, and Greek salad I've had for a long time. We also tried a bowl of conch chowder for the first time. It was good--rich and hearty--but tasted similar to other quality chowders. Highly recommend Mrs. Mac's larger location for a quiet, mid-afternoon meal. You won't be disappointed!

I would have scored a 4 if service had been better. Although friendly, our waiter left a lot to be desired, such as napkins and a glass of water that never arrived. The bar drinks were good. My sister was told they were out of pillar rum when there were 6 bottles decorating the bar. Perhaps they were just for decor? The chilli was very delicious and had great heat. Although our burger was ordered with a medium temp, and arrived well and a bit dry, there was enough bbq sauce on it to make up for the oversight. The key lime pie was very good, but not the best we've had in Key Largo. The carrot cake was all 5 stars in its mile high cream cheese topper! Overall, we had a good experience and I hope they were just short staffed. To come and collect glasses and say, hey those must have been good and walk away, instead of asking if we want another wasn't what we were expecting or we would have bounced on that when he arrived. We had to ask for any refills, again the water and napkins we asked for never arrived. Perhaps if he wasn't chatty Kathy at every table, he could take better care of others. Would I come back? Yes, the food was good and just hope tonight's service was a fluke.

New Owners !? Good or Bad !? Food was good ... high lights were oddly enough the onion rings & their version of French fries, it was like thick Fried potato chips. Homemade Cole slaw good 2 Crab cakes - good but thin for $28 Coconut shrimp was & plentiful - ok Key lime pie had no traditional tartness to it & small for $6 Bloody Mary all bland & low quality weird chemical taste , but waitress never tried to ask if we wanted another or something else. Soda also never given a refill request. The place only had 4 active tables & the service was very inattentive, the waitress staff spent more time huddled gossiping, than minding the guest. Ambiance of an old Pizza Hut, with No music.

Looks like an old Pizza Hut converted to a bar and restaurant. Bartender friendly and fast. Lots of people eating and having a wonderful time. Onion rings are phenomenal! Folks steady came in the doors until the place was full. Waitstaff knocked it out of the park keeping up with the dinner crowd! Well done indeed!

The mahi was incredible - we both had it but in different sandwiches. My husband had the Fishwich and I had the Jelly Fishwich. Not a fishy bite was had. The dining room was very cute and kitschy. Happy hour specials from 3 to 6pm - and my espresso martini was delicious

This place came very highly recommended, and we really wanted to like it. But, honestly, I didn't think it was that great. Very pricey. I had the Lobster Bites and my wife ordered the Shrimp sandwich. The lobster bites weren't bad, but you only get maybe 5 and a ton of fries (for over $30!!). My wife got her sandwich and realized it was just fish, not shrimp so they had to make her a new one. Coleslaw and fries were good. The waitress wasn't the most accommodating person, and the key lime pie was just meh.... The restraint itself is just a big building with not much character or ambiance. Maybe if you're a big fish eater you'd find something better on the menu, but I probably won't go back

We stopped into this adorable restaurant on our way to Key West. We were greeted and served by Elizabeth, who took great care of us and was a super hospitable. Everything we ordered was excellent: coconut shrimp, broken conch, and crab cake sandwich. Our meals came with great sauces to complement the dish, but we could order any sauce we wanted. Their Cole slaw is house made and fantastic. I'm glad we stopped in and we hope to make this a regular stop on our next Key West vacation!

Blackened Mahi Mahi

Classic American diner vibes serving burgers, fish, and steaks. Their entrees are filling, and we ordered the catch of the day (mahi mahi) which comes with a side salad and a side. The fish was cooked well, but could use a little more flavor. We chose the vegetable of the day as the side and it tasted like a boiled bag of frozen vegetables, so I definitely don't recommend that. We chose this place for their key lime pie and it did not disappoint. It was more like a frozen custard and delicious throughout.

Five stars, and I want to explain this properly because High Tide in Key Largo is absolutely a…read moreplace people should experience at least once. This is one of those spots that immediately tells you it's a local favorite the second you walk in. It feels homey, lived in, and deeply rooted in the community. The average crowd definitely skews older, which honestly just shows how loyal the regulars are and how long this place has been doing something right. We stood for a minute or two when we arrived, which wasn't a problem at all, but the initial interaction felt a little abrupt. Nothing hostile, just very direct and urgent. We later found out that Cathy is the owner, and it became clear very quickly that this place is her whole world. She works hard, moves fast, and runs on urgency. That energy can sometimes come off sharp, especially to visitors who aren't used to that local, no frills style, but we gave her the benefit of the doubt. There were moments throughout our visit where the tone felt a little rough around the edges, and it wasn't just with us, we noticed it with other tables too. It didn't feel personal, more like someone who is stretched thin and running on fumes. To her credit, there were moments where she self corrected, and I genuinely believe this was just a long day rather than bad intentions. Running a place like this day in and day out is not easy, and you can feel how much effort goes into keeping it moving. This review isn't meant to tear anyone down, just to be honest for future guests so they know what to expect walking in. What truly changed our entire experience and pushed this from a four star visit to a solid five was our server. Her name started with a T, she wore glasses, and she was African American, and she was an absolute blessing. She treated us with warmth, patience, and genuine care, like we were family she was looking out for. When we sat down and the table needed to be wiped, she handled it gracefully without a single awkward moment. Everything she did felt intentional and kind. She was attentive without hovering, respectful, and genuinely happy to be doing her job. There was also a sweet older Latina woman clearing tables who was just as lovely and welcoming. It became very clear that despite the different personalities, this place functions as a team, and the heart of High Tide lives in the people who treat guests with care and humanity. If you get that server whose name starts with a T, you are in excellent hands. Now let's talk about the food, because this is where High Tide really shines. The hash brown casserole is a straight ten out of ten. No exaggeration. Comfort food perfection. Crispy, savory, and absolutely worth ordering. The country style platter we ordered was also a ten according to my friend, hearty and satisfying in the best way. The lobster benedict was good, I would give it about an eight. It's a fun, unique option if you want to try something different, but not the standout compared to the rest of the menu. And then there's the real star of the show, the Key lime pie. Even if you are not hungry, come for the pie. This is hands down the best Key lime pie I have ever had. Perfectly balanced, not overly tart, smooth and almost cheesecake like in texture. It's the kind of dessert that makes you pause after the first bite because it's that good. Beautifully presented too. The decor is charming and thoughtfully cluttered in a way that feels authentic, not staged. The bathrooms are old but very clean. Parking is a little quirky but manageable, and there is parking available if you're patient. Overall, the vibe is cozy, memorable, and unmistakably local. Would I come back? Absolutely, especially for the food and that pie. Cathy, you are clearly working your ass off, and I hope this was just a rough day. This review comes with honesty and flowers, not shade. Five stars for the food, the heart, and the people who make this place what it is. I do recommend it.

I think it is one of the best seafood restaurants in Key Largo hands down. Not large but just right and a favorite for locals. I remember when they use to have the all you can eat Stone Crab, King Crab or Snow Crab for $75 per person. Those days are long gone but they are still firing on all cylinders. The menu is not enormous but it doesn't have to be as they stick to what they know best, mostly seafood with some burgers and sandwiches mixed in between. Can't go wrong with anything on their menu and they do have a Southern feel as a number of dishes have a little kick to them but do not fear, you can always ask them to leave the spicy seasoning off and you are good to go. On this occasion, I decided to go with their Black Bean Soup and the Grilled Mahi Mahi with Roasted Mushrooms. Both were awesome as expected and I really enjoyed the black bean soup; also, the mushrooms were amazing. Being Cuban you would think hey black beans are black beans but their recipe is bar none awesome. Service here is awesome and very laid back as we are in the Florida Key's . They really make you feel at home and are extremely courteous. Evenings are pretty busy and pretty packed so you may have to wait a bit to be seated but it is well worth the wait. Atmosphere is welcoming and you can hear the Jimmy Buffet tunes playing in the background to round out the Florida Key's feel. Feel like striking up a conversation well no problem, that is the norm and encouraged. Parking should not be a problem either but it can get a little packed in the evenings and on weekends. Overall it was a great experience but honestly I did not expect anything less. So if you are driving by mile marker 98.2 on the Overseas Highway, and are hungry for some good food, well keep your eyes peeled for the sign as you cannot miss it. Wishing you a great time in the keys. Enjoy and Bon Appétit m'es amis!
