    Shrimp & Corn Chowder
    Vicki A.

This place has personality and is cute! The Great: An excellent Espresso Martini The Good: Carrot Cake The Bad: The server was so scatter brained. Friendly, but talked a little too much and didn't write anything down, so kept forgetting things. The Ugly: Unsure about the entire restaurant, but our table was dirty. Like old dirty. Not like, they didn't wipe it down, but more like it had never seen a deep clean and stuff just kept accumulating. I had the shrimp and corn chowder. It was very watery. We enjoyed the desserts. I'm not sure if I would come back though. I'm just wondering if the whole restaurant is dirty like our table.

After visiting the smaller place of "Mrs Mac Kitchen" we decided on our way back from Key West to stop for lunch at the bigger "Mrs Mac Kitchen". We had two times the soup of the day, a wedge salad and sweet potato fries plus our drinks (coke, ginger ale and beer with and without alcohol). In total we paid $59.36. The food was good, but the soup was a little salty. The staff was nice and friendly. Overall I would give 3.5 stars, rounded do 4. Would I go again? Probably not, I would look for something else.

Did not like it here. Weird vibe as soon as we got there. Guy said Lunch? We said yes. Then turned and ran to a table. Overpriced for what you get.! Fries were BLAH!! Waffle fries were just as bad. Soup good but bowl was $9 Shrimp poor boy $20 For 6 shrimp and bread. Only one sever and she was rushing around like crazy. Lunch 2 sandwiches 1 soup $63 Better options available on this road.

    Soggy food, cold, yuck!

We did online ordering that said up in 60 minutes. When we went to pick it up, everything was cold and soggy. There were no utensils or tartar sauce with the meal. We called to complain and they acknowledge that the food had been sitting for 45 minutes waiting for us. What? Their app said 60 minutes. Not our problem. They offered to remake the food but we were so tired and disgusted we said no thanks. Very bad experience.

Both locations of Mrs. Mac's were on my must-visit list in the Florida Keys after our snorkeling trip. I had hoped to try the original (smaller) spot, but it closes early in the afternoon. Since we took our time after snorkeling, we ended up at the newer, larger location, which stays open all day. We arrived around 3:15 p.m. to find it nearly empty--just two tables of guests and a couple of people at the bar. The space is open and quiet- very relaxed vibe. Our waitress was sweet. My daughter wanted mahi, and I was eyeing the coconut shrimp, so she suggested we get the mahi and shrimp basket and upgrade it to coconut shrimp. Great call! Both the mahi and the coconut shrimp were outstanding--fresh, tender, juicy, and clearly caught that day. The batter was thin, crisp, and perfectly light. We also ordered a Greek salad, which was unbelievably fresh; every ingredient was delicious and full of flavor. No exaggeration--this was the best mahi, coconut shrimp, and Greek salad I've had for a long time. We also tried a bowl of conch chowder for the first time. It was good--rich and hearty--but tasted similar to other quality chowders. Highly recommend Mrs. Mac's larger location for a quiet, mid-afternoon meal. You won't be disappointed!

Best fish sandwich ever and loved the key lime colada, so yummy. Great local restaurant with a lot of nostalgia. Staff was fast and friendly!

New Owners !? Good or Bad !? Food was good ... high lights were oddly enough the onion rings & their version of French fries, it was like thick Fried potato chips. Homemade Cole slaw good 2 Crab cakes - good but thin for $28 Coconut shrimp was & plentiful - ok Key lime pie had no traditional tartness to it & small for $6 Bloody Mary all bland & low quality weird chemical taste , but waitress never tried to ask if we wanted another or something else. Soda also never given a refill request. The place only had 4 active tables & the service was very inattentive, the waitress staff spent more time huddled gossiping, than minding the guest. Ambiance of an old Pizza Hut, with No music.

I would have scored a 4 if service had been better. Although friendly, our waiter left a lot to be desired, such as napkins and a glass of water that never arrived. The bar drinks were good. My sister was told they were out of pillar rum when there were 6 bottles decorating the bar. Perhaps they were just for decor? The chilli was very delicious and had great heat. Although our burger was ordered with a medium temp, and arrived well and a bit dry, there was enough bbq sauce on it to make up for the oversight. The key lime pie was very good, but not the best we've had in Key Largo. The carrot cake was all 5 stars in its mile high cream cheese topper! Overall, we had a good experience and I hope they were just short staffed. To come and collect glasses and say, hey those must have been good and walk away, instead of asking if we want another wasn't what we were expecting or we would have bounced on that when he arrived. We had to ask for any refills, again the water and napkins we asked for never arrived. Perhaps if he wasn't chatty Kathy at every table, he could take better care of others. Would I come back? Yes, the food was good and just hope tonight's service was a fluke.

Looks like an old Pizza Hut converted to a bar and restaurant. Bartender friendly and fast. Lots of people eating and having a wonderful time. Onion rings are phenomenal! Folks steady came in the doors until the place was full. Waitstaff knocked it out of the park keeping up with the dinner crowd! Well done indeed!

The mahi was incredible - we both had it but in different sandwiches. My husband had the Fishwich and I had the Jelly Fishwich. Not a fishy bite was had. The dining room was very cute and kitschy. Happy hour specials from 3 to 6pm - and my espresso martini was delicious

This place came very highly recommended, and we really wanted to like it. But, honestly, I didn't think it was that great. Very pricey. I had the Lobster Bites and my wife ordered the Shrimp sandwich. The lobster bites weren't bad, but you only get maybe 5 and a ton of fries (for over $30!!). My wife got her sandwich and realized it was just fish, not shrimp so they had to make her a new one. Coleslaw and fries were good. The waitress wasn't the most accommodating person, and the key lime pie was just meh.... The restraint itself is just a big building with not much character or ambiance. Maybe if you're a big fish eater you'd find something better on the menu, but I probably won't go back

We sat down at our table and then the place filled up. Talk about timing! I saw crab cake Benedict on the menu and knew I had to try it. I was also interested in the Lobster Benedict but they also had a lobster omelette so my husband agreed to get the omelette and we would share so we could try both their omelettes and the Benedict. He got their breakfast casserole for a $2 up charge and the waitress said "oh, good choice," so we were both excited to see what that was going to be like. I ordered the grits with cheese. Our food came out in a timely manner and we enjoyed our coffee while we waited. The staff were great about keeping our mugs filled at all times. The food was served and I really enjoyed the crab cakes Benedict. The grits were just ok. Even with the cheese and butter, salt and pepper I added it was just bland. My husband liked his omelette. We tried each others and I think my pick won out. I will say his breakfast casserole was delicious! It had so much flavor. Definitely worth paying the extra couple bucks for imo. My friends all commented they enjoyed their food. They had some breakfast sandwiches and egg meals. We liked that they brought our check with a seashell on top. One of my friends was hoping we could keep them. I thought it was a nice added touch. We won't run back here but certainly would eat there again if we were in the area.

The tomato soup was great - it had pesto mixed in, making for an unexpected and appealing mix of flavors. The tuna sashimi was fine. Marnie loved the sweet potato fries and the homemade ketchup with which they came for dipping. I devoured the sautéed green beans (with bacon salt). She loved the key lime crème brûlée - an unusual twist on a key lime pie, which would certainly work for someone who is gluten-free. I think it is one of the best seafood restaurants in Key Largo hands down. Not large but just right and a favorite for locals. I remember when they use to have the all you can eat Stone Crab, King Crab or Snow Crab for $75 per person. Those days are long gone but they are still firing on all cylinders. The menu is not enormous but it doesn't have to be as they stick to what they know best, mostly seafood with some burgers and sandwiches mixed in between. Can't go wrong with anything on their menu and they do have a Southern feel as a number of dishes have a little kick to them but do not fear, you can always ask them to leave the spicy seasoning off and you are good to go. On this occasion, I decided to go with their Black Bean Soup and the Grilled Mahi Mahi with Roasted Mushrooms. Both were awesome as expected and I really enjoyed the black bean soup; also, the mushrooms were amazing. Being Cuban you would think hey black beans are black beans but their recipe is bar none awesome. Service here is awesome and very laid back as we are in the Florida Key's . They really make you feel at home and are extremely courteous. Evenings are pretty busy and pretty packed so you may have to wait a bit to be seated but it is well worth the wait. Atmosphere is welcoming and you can hear the Jimmy Buffet tunes playing in the background to round out the Florida Key's feel. Feel like striking up a conversation well no problem, that is the norm and encouraged. Parking should not be a problem either but it can get a little packed in the evenings and on weekends. Overall it was a great experience but honestly I did not expect anything less. So if you are driving by mile marker 98.2 on the Overseas Highway, and are hungry for some good food, well keep your eyes peeled for the sign as you cannot miss it. Wishing you a great time in the keys. Enjoy and Bon Appétit m'es amis!

The sampler comes with two conch fritters, two coconut shrimp, two bacon wrapped items (which we replaced), cracked conch, and lobster and conch ceviche. I have to say this while it's fresh in my mind. The moment I had the lobster and shrimp ceviche, I got chills. Just an incredible burst of flavor. Tiny bit of heat at the end but nothing overwhelming. Just really, really good. The conch fritters are solid too. Chewy, not over breaded, and served with two sauces. One is sweet and one is more of a mayo style. There's also something that eats like a conch curry puff situation. I liked the cracked conch better personally, but both are worth trying. The coconut shrimp is also really good. The sampler also comes with tortilla chips on the side. The lobster bisque is delicious. Great flavor with little chunks of what I'm pretty sure is lobster throughout. Nothing more to add really. It's just good. The mahi and avocado dish has a nice seared taste to it. Not flame broiled exactly, but that kind of grilled sear that you want on fish. The pico de gallo is similar to what came with the ceviche, and it works really well here. All in at $75.

Not sure if it's because we are a large party 10 or more, or what? Our last visit was a Sunday evening in early July . We ate outside. Waiter was good at getting water out to everyone. But when it came to drink orders we must have waited 15-20 minutes for him to take our drink orders. I had to ask him to take my appetizer order. We had to ask several times for our drinks - soft drinks- not alcoholic. They were not good at cleaning our dirty appetizer plates away after delivering dinner leaving the table crowded. I think what I found most annoying was watching our server and another server standing around while we were waiting for drinks, for order taking, for refills, etc. There was just no attention being paid to us. Maybe the guy was new? Not sure. The restaurant wasn't very busy so that wasn't the excuse. I've heard it's difficult to get good help in the Keys. Cost a lot to live here. Most commute from Homestead. Anyway- good for the food - don't expect great service. Ironically I did over tip. I was a server in college so I try to be generous.

One thing you'll notice pretty quickly in the Keys is that many restaurants close fairly early, and this one closes at 10 p.m., so we always make sure to get there in time. I've eaten at both the bar and at a table. This year, since my nephew was with us, we grabbed a table and enjoyed another great meal. My absolute favorite dish here is the fish topped with a generous portion of crab. It is absolutely incredible! Funny enough, years ago I actually ordered the pistachio-crusted fish, but the kitchen accidentally brought me the fish with crab instead. Let's just say I wasn't disappointed by that mistake! On this trip, I finally tried the pistachio-crusted fish, and it was delicious too. My nephew couldn't stop talking about the seafood linguine. It was loaded with seafood, and he absolutely loved it. The atmosphere is one of the best parts of dining here. The waterfront views are beautiful, and you can choose to sit under the tiki hut or kick off your shoes and enjoy the sand beneath your feet. It's such a relaxing place to unwind after a day in the Keys. We've also had the coconut shrimp, which comes with an amazing dipping sauce that I'd definitely recommend. For drinks, I tried their espresso martini for the first time. They add cocoa to it, which I've never seen before. It definitely caught me by surprise, but in a good way. I always enjoy when a bartender puts a creative spin on a classic cocktail instead of making the same version everyone else serves. Between the beautiful setting, delicious food, and laid-back atmosphere, this is a place we look forward to visiting every year.
