We visit key largo often at a lovely community with good restaurants on property. However nothing compares to Hobos fresh seafood and excellent preparations. Food is good. Service not so much. We've been coming to Key Largo for many years, Hobos as well. The food is good. But the past few times, service was lacking. Not sure if it's because we are a large party 10 or more, or what? Our last visit was a Sunday evening in early July . We ate outside. Waiter was good at getting water out to everyone. But when it came to drink orders we must have waited 15-20 minutes for him to take our drink orders. I had to ask him to take my appetizer order. We had to ask several times for our drinks - soft drinks- not alcoholic. They were not good at cleaning our dirty appetizer plates away after delivering dinner leaving the table crowded. I think what I found most annoying was watching our server and another server standing around while we were waiting for drinks, for order taking, for refills, etc. There was just no attention being paid to us. Maybe the guy was new? Not sure. The restaurant wasn't very busy so that wasn't the excuse. I've heard it's difficult to get good help in the Keys. Cost a lot to live here. Most commute from Homestead. Anyway- good for the food - don't expect great service. Ironically I did over tip. I was a server in college so I try to be generous. read more

Hobos Cafe. I had a few thoughts. The lemonade was slightly on the bitter side and felt a little watered down. Not a dealbreaker, but worth noting. The servers were nice, which always goes a long way. The shrimp was very soft, tender, and tasty. The lobster portion ran a little small, but the flavor was there, and there is genuinely a lot of other food on the menu to round things out. The salad was fresh and had a good crunch to it. The crab cake had some noticeable heat to it. There is a distinct flavor in there that I could not quite put my finger on, but it was good. The heat came through right away. The shrimp gratin was very cheesy and rich. It was probably the most indulgent thing on the table. Really satisfying. Overall an okay spot for a decent meal. read more

Chicken wings were overcooked and dry, and the onion loaf was burnt and was terrible. The waitress was okay and the manager kept coming over and we told her the onion loaf was awful so she gave us a container and basically threw our chicken wings and celery in the takeout container. Topped with chopped tomatoes, a lot of scallions, and cheese on a brioche bun. Pretty scallion forward so may skip those next time. Sauce was butter with a hint of lime. 4.5 stars - Burger: cooked well and brioche bun. Picky teen gives it 4 stars - Lobster artichoke bisque: pretty good but didn't find any lobster bits. 3.75 stars - Staff: very friendly and attentive especially with keeping our waters filled. - Atmosphere: nice open space with high ceilings and colorful sea life art. - Menu: very large laminated laminated double sided with lots of options Midlights: - Ribs: wet ribs special were fine. 3.5 stars - Cheesesteak: meat was good but ratio of onions to meat was too high. More like an onion sandwich with steak, 3.5 stars - Conch fritters: were ok but all blended together vs few pieces of conch in versions I've had before. We came to this place for Mothers Day as first timers and were excited to try something new. We were greeted promptly and sat right away. The service was great. Very attentive and had rounds of folks asking if we needed anything. The food came out pretty quick. Everything was pretty fresh and tasted great. Not pictured were the chicken nachos which were really good. The only dish that was not good was the Mac and cheese. Aesthetically it looked amazing but it lacked flavor. We didn't eat it. Incredibly fresh food, service, super fast and a great ambiance. Compared to all the other places this one is at the top.

What a beautiful restaurant. They had high ceilings (unheard of in the Keys) and nice decor. They even put sound proof panels on the ceiling to help keep the noise level down (thoughtful!). We ate inside (Floridians like us know better than to expose ourselves to the heat and No See Um's outside at dusk). We thoroughly enjoyed the inside ambiance. Well done. The spacious patio out back did also actually look nice. I wanted to give this 5 stars but my husband was not impressed by the taste (or lack thereof) of his bacon burger so I had to take away a star. I had a delicious Woodrow Chicken sandwich piled high with their signature onions and bbq sauce. When they brought it out, I wondered how I could possibly get the huge thing into my mouth. It was enormous (see photo) and tasty. I cut it in half and ate leftovers the next day. Service was good except our waitress did seem to struggle a bit. She either could not hear us or did not understand us (language issue?). At least she kept asking us until she understood. I do appreciate that. We were skeptical but our order came out right, yippee! We even splurged by getting dessert. Can't pass up chocolate cake when it appears on the menu (rarely). Needed to grab a quick bite and was surprised that Hobo's has a great 3-6pm Monday to Friday happy hour menu! The only catch is it is only valid at the bar. You cannot beat the $1 draft and $3 IPA drafts and $5 wine. The $8 appetizers are great! I had the calamari and it was easily enough for 2 to share. Someone seated near me was having the 10 buffalo chicken wings and they looked and smelled so appetizing. I just had a Coke Zero and was offered both a refill and a to-go cup! Bar service was super attentive. The bar was full, but the restaurant only had diners at two tables, so it was not as loud inside as it can be when Hobo's is busy. Great quick visit! read more

It's not the most obvious stop for dinner compared to some others that offer a spectacular view of a sunset, or are closer to the water... but what Hobo's does offer is a clean, cool open dining room with a bar and some tables, off of the main road in Key Largo to slow down and enjoy a nice meal. The wait staff was friendly and inviting. My owe ordered the hobo house beer and didn't love it, so asked them to switch it to a blue moon - which they happily accommodated. Speaking of alcohol, there is only beer and wine served - no spirits of any kind. The menu has some options with a heavy emphasis on seafood and some of which is locally sourced and caught. The meals were prepared well and the food was tasty. We felt the portions were very large for the price. We came here because of many of the local restaurants, fellow Yelpers recommend this place and it is rated fairly highly. We enjoyed it! read more

Absolutely the best meal we have had in quite a while! We sat at the bar, had great friendly service and good cold beer. We started with potato skins, a special, they were huge, hot and delicious. We split the shrimp risotto with mushrooms in a Alfredo sauce, plenty for 2, the shrimp was perfectly cooked and the dish served hot! I'm not sure what happened to Hobo's. It used to be so good. We took everyone here that came to visit. Now the fish serving is very inconsistent. The shrimp are dry like shoe leather. The service is rushed. The hostess is mad. It's on average $35 a person here for fish. That does not include drinks or anything else. Again used to be our go to. Hobo's Cafe was recommended to us by a local dive shop after a morning of snorkeling, and we're glad we took their advice. We were seated right away with no wait, and it had the feel of a small local restaurant instead of a tourist trap. I had the mahi mahi tacos, and my wife had the lobster and shrimp po'boy. Both were excellent, and the portions were generous. If you go, don't skip the crab and artichoke dip--it was easily the best appetizer we had on our trip. The food had that authentic Keys flavor that makes you feel like you're eating where the locals do. We sat outside on the covered patio, and the fans kept it comfortable even in the Florida heat. Prices were a little higher than some other places we visited, and our fountain drinks from the outdoor bar were a bit flat, but that's something I've noticed at a lot of outdoor bar setups. Key Largo seems to have the most variability in Yelp experiences -- I found 5-star reviews followed by 1-star reviews and I didn't feel confident about any restaurant choices. Luckily, Hobo's was really good. The restaurant was clean. Service was polite and prompt. Food was great (see below). Prices are a little higher than other places we ate in the Keys, but this was easily justified by the high quality and generous. The kids spaghetti can feed a full sized adult, ditto for the kids steak. I had the Mahi plate "Key West Style" and the portion was comically large -- like the whole dinner plate was fish. I'm a very big eater (easily eating all my food and the leftovers of others), but I tapped out at like 90%. It was incredibly fresh and delicious and the single best piece of fish I had on the entire vacation. My wife had the seafood trio and it was really good (and more reasonably portioned). My daughter had the chocolate cake for dessert and it was good but nothing amazing. Overall, I was very impressed by Hobo's and I'd easily recommend to other Yelpers. read more

Our group of seven stopped here for lunch today, most of us wanted a good burger. Everyone agreed they were very good. We went as a couple to have dinner, it was a little late in the rush, 7:30 ish and the inside was busy, outside was quieter but it was February so a bit cool but the back area is well out of the wind so if you don't mind it being a bit cooler, you can totally handle it. The staff was very nice, plenty of people to help and the food came out quickly. I'd say split a dinner, the portion was HUGE for both meals. I'd say get an appetizer and split a meal and you'll be very happy. I will knock the food for the fish I selected it came with this Key Lime sauce on the grouper. It was tangy lime with butter but seemed unecessary, forced with the Key Lime. I'm open to trying it since it said it was the signature sauce but hey, forget the lime, give me a nice butter sauce and the fish would have been even better. Hobo's interior was very clean and neatly laid out. The menu has just about something for everyone on it. I ordered the Hobo's Blackened Fish Sandwich with Cole Slaw and a side of Clam Chowder. My wife ordered the Scallops wrapped with Crab Cake. My friend ordered the BBQ Wings and a Chef salad. My Clam Chowder and the Chef Salad was delivered fast, and all looked good. I took a taste of my Clam Chowder; it was hot and so good. It is the best Chowder I had since moving to Florida. My friends Chef Salad looked amazing and all items on the salad tasted fresh and crisp, it was big enough for three of us to split it and we still had some to take back to the Hotel with us. Our main orders came out fast and they looked amazing. All the food was hot and very tasty. My Blackened Fish was very good as was the Coleslaw. The Scallops were good as well. Our friend stated the BBQ Wings were the best he ever had in state of Florida. Our friend got a piece of Key Lime Pie with a candle on it because it was his birthday. Even the Key Lime Pie was delicious. I loved this place and will stop by when we are in the keys. I am so glad we tried this place; you must stop by you will not be disappointed. Parking is easy and plentiful. They have an outside patio and will ask you where you want to sit when you arrive. Their claim to be an authentic Keys food experience is spot on. Stopped here on our drive to Key West. Had the key lime fish sandwich made with grouper... it was THE best fish sandwich I've ever had. Fish was very fresh and cooked perfectly. My wife had the coconut shrimp...huge shrimp, hand prepared and again, cooked to perfection. Friends had fish tacos and they loved them. Your quintessential Florida keys low key joint- but the food is definitely HI KEY. Also - their salads are HUGE like it comes in a mixing bowl but DELICIOUS.
