Came here the other night for dinner as my bf and I were heading up to Miami. We sat at the bar and it wasn't busy at all. I ordered a key lime martini that was really good. To eat we ordered the sautéed mussels and then I ordered the traditional Greek salad for my dinner and he ordered the farmhouse pasta. Overall the food was good. The potato salad in the Greek salad was random but good I enjoyed it. It also had a good portion of chicken on it. My bf liked the pasta but not the sauce (aka broth) he said it tasted like ramen with the broth and I couldn't agree more. Not the best pasta dish we've had. I will say our service was awkward. Although our bartender was friendly she seemed very drunk. She was dropping glasses, slurring and just seemed out of it -- but not THAT out of it because our ordered came out correct so there's that! read more

I've never experienced anything like this. As the restaurant was nearing closing, instead of a polite last call or a courteous heads-up, a random man was brought in and loudly asked when the restaurant closed so that our table could "get the hint." It was obvious, awkward, and incredibly disrespectful. The situation became unacceptable when the elderly women I was with, who were seeing each other for the first time in a long time, explained why they were lingering. The same man responded by saying, "If you haven't seen each other in a long time, then go to another bar." That level of rudeness is stunning. There is no excuse for speaking to guests that way, especially elderly guests who were doing nothing wrong. We left feeling embarrassed and unwelcome. Closing time does not justify cruelty or poor hospitality. This experience ensured we will never return, and I would strongly caution others. Was driving to Fort Lauderdale from Key West and remembered seeing this restaurant mentioned in Guy Fieri's DDD show. The Turtle Soup was delicious and they give you a pepper sauce that adds to the flavor. The meatloaf wrapped in bacon was his recommendation and it did not disappoint. The waitress was so nice and food was brought out quickly. The memorabilia on the walls and the decor is inviting and warm. This is going to be one of my regular stops heading into the keys. read more

I was very happy to order the egg sandwich with GF bread! It was messy but delicious. The Bloody Mary was pretty good but I am not a fan of cucumber vodka which seems to be popular in the keys. The waiter had my drink remade when my request for regular vodka was initially overlooked. read more

Let me put you all on. Easily one of the best restaurants in the keys. Not only did they accommodate a big group on relatively short notice, but the food was amazing. Starting with the skillet cornbread, which I definitely recommend everyone should try and if you have a bigger group, definitely get two for the table not because it wasn't enough but because you're definitely going to to want to go for seconds. We had been in those keys for about a week at this point and we had gone to a few different restaurants. Everyone agreed that this was easily the best shrimp scampi they had ever tried. Well, I can't have shellfish. I did order the meatloaf and I don't think I would ever say this, but it was the best meatloaf I have ever had. My husband and I came here for breakfast after he told me that he had been there the day before with a couple friends and someone ordered the shrimp & grits and he tasted it... and we HAD to come get some. So... we did, and MAN! I never order shrimp & grits, but these were THE BEST shrimp & grits I have ever had. The grits were nice and solid, the sauce it was sitting in, the sausage was delicious... it was just perfect! Beside that, we were able to walk right in and get a table. Coming inside, they told me they don't serve brisket anymore and that it was just the pork and chicken. When the food arrived the pulled pork was cold, dry, and tasted spoiled. This was our first time eating here during all of our trips and this place was worth it. We ordered the mussels, cornbread, scallops, meatloaf and the lava cake. All the food tasted great and fresh. As far as the cornbread, that was probably the best thing we ate down here during this trip. It was amazing with the maple pecan butter, which is addicting. Do yourself a favor and get the lava cake. The food was cold. We ordered the shrimp appetizer, it was room temp as soon as it hit the table. We ordered the dip and they brought the cornbread instead. What a happy accident, the pecan maple butter was awesome. We ordered the meatloaf and mashed potatoes and a side of mac and cheese. The presentation was excellent, but again, all room temp, all of it. The shrimp scampi came out hot, which was great. We shared the shrimp pasta and didn't eat the other stuff, what a disappointment. The place is spacious and welcoming. They have a large bar area. The alcohol on display points to somewhat of a high-end experience with The Prisoner wine standing out. Service was attentive and overall the food was good. Coming here for brunch on a Wednesday I had the Cinnamon Roll French Toast - Topped with Berries. I almost never do sweet stuff, but this is one exception for the year, well, maybe two, but you get the idea. Was it worth it? Pretty close! Outside of sugar being sugar I was very happy with it. Not too sweet and the syrup was still a great combination. Someone else at my table had the shrimp and grits. Well, if you are going to choose between the two Triple D places in town I would choose the other one for that dish. We stopped in to try the turtle chowder. Never had turtle before, we all joked, it will probably taste like chicken. Well, turtle has a beef like flavor, so maybe turtle is the beef of the sea! The turtle chowder is peppery, and loaded with vegetables; it made me think this is what happens when beef vegetable soup and gumbo get together but the beef and shellfish fish are replaced by a shelled reptile. Wow! That is all I have to say. I have been eating here for almost 30 years and it has always been great. Both the service and ambiance never disappoint. I have fond memories of coming here for prime rib night with my dad and that is typically what I have always ordered and it is fantastic. I even remember them serving hot meals to people after Irma devastated the area. Tonight, I tried the Bacon Encrusted Bone-In Pork Chop and it was, hands down, the best pork chop I have EVER had. It was moist and flavorful. I definitely found a new favorite meal when in Islamorada and it's not fish! read more

Hubby had the shrimp & grits with a biscuit and said it was in his favorite, which speaks volumes since he is a Charleston, SC native. I had "The Roxie" omelet with crab, spinach, tomato and Boursin cheese with a side of grits and biscuit. OMG. Soooo good! The staff was great- attentive and very friendly. Well, we were all looking forward to getting the barbecue to go to take to Hawks Cay based on previous good food. We live in Jacksonville and it's normally a 5-6 hour drive. Traffic was brutal due to wrecks and storms so I do want to give them credit for allowing me to cancel our to go order when we figured out we would not get there until 2 1/2 hours after our expected pickup. We were in three different vehicles and all of us faced the same situation. I am loyal to restaurants so I was determined to make it back up there during our week long visit. We drove back up the next day to do Sunday brunch and then get the barbecue to go for dinner. The whole vibe was off and the food was too. The waitress we had was so rude and not accommodating to any special requests. Despite repeating things, they came out wrong and we sat and waited while those mistakes were fixed. The food was also not at all what we have experienced in the past. The burgers were overcooked, the eggs in my breakfast burrito were brown, the chicken sandwich was overcooked and worst of all the barbecue we brought home for dinner was not good. The brisket was fatty, the chicken was dry, the macaroni and cheese was so weird and like mush. The pulled pork was good and the beans and slaw were OK, but just not as good as years passed. In the past, their brunch was excellent and the barbecue was too. Proceed with caution as of now is my opinion. read more

Ok, can we talk about this Breakfast spot!!! Wowza. In full transparency, my husband picked this spot because they have giant cinnamon rolls and he knows they're my favorite. Bravo hubs, this place might just be the best breakfast on Islamorada. Yep, it's that good. We ordered the cinnamon roll for the table and split the Key west Benedict (like traditional Benedict but replace the ham with CRAB!) Cooked perfectly. Super rich. The hash brown casserole is like a party potato - cheesy, gooey goodness. They have omelette, traditional breakfast platters/options, "fish and eggs", a seafood lovers dream. The story is really cool too, Sid & Roxie are the founders dating back to 1957. The establishment has remained open since. Casual vibe with hints of class with polished wood bar and decor. They're open for breakfast lunch and dinner. Attached to the "inn" where you can stay. As well as a pub. Our server was a sweet local lady. Great, welcoming vibe here. After hearing so many people rave about this place, we had to try it! Walking in we were seated immediately and this was a nice surprise as there was a lot of people sitting and waiting outside. Our server came over after a few minutes and told us this history of the place and gave some of her suggestions on the best dishes. We split the cinnamon roll first while waiting for our meals. We got the create your own omelette and the two egg breakfast. Everything was portioned well and tasted immaculate. The grits were especially cheesy and very tasty. Started with the corn bread. My family partook in some fish dip and RAVED about it. Moving on with the turtle salad with chicken. Very impressed so far. Everywhere else is somehow all filled up for the whole night.... We are late eaters and stumbled in here. Service has been fantastic... food has been fantastic ... :) very happy !!! Wednesday was steak night. We had the Filet and NY Strip. Both were great. Bang Bang Shrimp app was fresh and delicious.

Just stopped in to the Green Turtle Inn again on a trip back to the Keys and it was wonderful as usual. We literally ordered almost everything the same as last time so there isn't much to update although this time we had our toddler with us and he is is pretty messy and was being particularly fussy this evening. Our server was amazing with him and super patient. Also used the restrooms which I noticed were gender neutral and have sugar scrub by the sink which is a nice touch. I was highly recommended to go to this restaurant for their amazing breakfast. We didn't necessarily want to drive 25 miles, but I am a sucker for a good breakfast so we decided to take the drive. The restaurant was very busy , which is usually a good sign. The vibe and decor was great. Unfortunately our breakfast took about 45 minutes and it was obvious the potatoes sat for quite some time, they were cold. The eggs Benedict were okay, I asked the hostess to check on our order because it appeared that it had been taken so incredibly long for such a simple order . She proceeded to tell me that the big parties take priority and small tables on Sundays could wait up to an hour. If I knew that, I certainly would've never taken a 30 minute drive for mediocre breakfast. Our waitress was MIA must of the time , maybe we came on an off day because they have a decent reputation. Wow! Came here for brunch. Best chicken & waffles I've ever had. It's not spicy but has an amazing light crispy crust which supported my buffalo sauce and the syrup. Waffle was warm and also the perfect texture for the dish. My husband had the pastrami sandwich which was also fantastic!! Bread was a swirl rye and crispy with the tender pastrami - delicious!!
