We had a delicious comforting meal here! Great diner like spot in the keys with yummy food. I got the key lime waffle and it was exactly what you'd expect and want in terms of key lime. My little guy devoured his pancake breakfast. The kids pancake was huge and came with bacon, his favorite. My husband got the slam and enjoyed it, especially the French toast. Our server was Lexy. She was so friendly and accommodating to our little one. He was so happy the entire meal, which doesn't always happen with a toddler. I'd recommend trying this spot next time you're in the Islamorada area. For a comforting meal, with a local vibe, it is a spot not to miss. read more

This place had the Keys ambience TO THE MAX! It was a good diner and had a menu reflecting that. Really loved the look! We ordered: The Breakfast Tacos-Dry, no cheese, VERY bland. Corned Beef Hash/Fried eggs and hash browns. Very good plate for what it is. Coffee was also hot and good. Our server was pleasant, professional and was always smiling. Unfortunately, she nor anyone offered us refills on our coffee-VERY LAME for a breakfast place. OK, now my 2 COMPLAINTS besides not being offered more coffee; 1) There was an added $1.85 "Carry Out Fee". We did NOT order our food to go, we ate there. I'm sure that they ALWAYS add that fee to all the checks and hope that it doesn't get noticed! 2) They have a tipping guide at the bottom of the check that recommends different gratuities based on THE AFTER TAX AMOUNT! That's FBS! Tipping is based upon the food & drink ONLY, and should NOT be calculated including the tax! That's 2 ethical practices that they do to take advantage of their customers. Shame on them!! So good that we went back for day two. We were staying at Casa Morada and this place is easily within walking distance. My husband and I went for breakfast on both Saturday and Sunday of our trip. Both days the place was full and very busy, but we never waited more than five minutes because we sat at the counter, which was very comfortable. The staff were friendly and inviting and the service was excellent. They gave us time to peruse the menu and answered our questions. The first day I got the pancake combo with key lime pancakes. The pancakes were perfect, fluffy with crispy edges, but I would've liked a little bit more key lime sauce on top (I should have asked.) The whipped cream with the key lime sauce was a perfect combination. They brought out maple syrup, but I didn't use it. The second day my husband and I shared the French toast sampler and an omelette. The omelette was fluffy and well-filled with toppings. The French toast sampler allowed us to try a bunch of different flavors. We had the regular, cinnamon roll, blueberry, and apple cinnamon. We enjoyed all of them. The only "issue" we had was that my husband ordered the corn beef hash on the first day and did not end up eating it because he thought it was made in-house, but it was not and he really wanted it fresh. It's not necessarily a complaint. It's just something to note. Oh and I almost forgot that both days my husband got one of their fresh made cinnamon rolls from the case upfront. The first day it was an appetizer for him and the second day he took it home so we could enjoy it later. The atmosphere of the place is laid-back, keys vibe with lots of fishing and ocean related decor. They have a huge gift shop with a lot of art that you can walk through while you're waiting for your table. I would definitely go again if I'm back in the Florida Keys. read more

We are on a key lime pie taste test tour and this one is for sure up there for local pies. Great pastry case as well. Also a good spot to grab souvenirs. We walked in and everyone started at us, I guess because a lot of locals eat there and we were visiting. My toast was hard (I was able to bang it on the table and it didn't break), my grits were halfway cooked. Some friends at the RV resort recommended Mangrove Mikes and they had high reviews so we tried it. I will never return. There was a very friendly lady who worked there but the food said do not return. We found the Green Turtle Inn to be the best breakfast in the Keys. read more

If you want a classic, delicious, slightly greasy, breakfast (maybe after a night out) - definitely head over to Mangrove Mike's! We love coming here for breakfast when we are in town. The food is always really good, the home fries are some of my favorite. You know it's good when all the local fishermen go there! Service is always great, friendly and attentive. The restaurant is not huge, which makes it more intimate and not as loud as other breakfast spots can sometimes be. We went 2 mornings for breakfast while we were on a 4 day vacation. The only reason we didn't go 4 days as we ate the leftovers the other 2 days. The place is busy but they know how to move a crowd but you don't feel rushed. We had the breakfast quesadilla, country fried steak, classic breakfast with the fabulous home fries and a classic breakfast with the pancakes. Everything was so good. It has the hometown diner feel. My wife had the shrimp Po boy shrimp were cooked perfect but had no seasoning the sandwich needs pickles and mustard it was kind of bland. My beautiful wife decided on this place based on reviews & we are very glad she did! It's a local place with great vibes. Everyone on the staff was VERY friendly. We split a cinnamon roll that was a touch crusty on the outside but very tasty with a very nice cream cheese icing. She had the Super platter with eggs, bacon & pancakes ( which came with hot syrup). She found the scrambled eggs tasty with their own hot sauce , the bacon was delicious & the pancakes while huge & good were a little tough. I had the breakfast quesadilla that came with sour cream & pico de gallo sauce with scrambled eggs, ham & cheese which was in a word outstanding! I also got a side of hash browns which was a huge portion but cooked & seasoned well. Our waitress Diane was always friendly & on top of everything even though she had several tables. We are in aisle, Islamorada , Florida. Mangrove Mike's is right next-door to our hotel the Sunset Inn. We tried Mangrove Mike's years ago and just haven't gone back in there, but the smells that we were getting in the morning from their breakfast cooking we couldn't resist. We had a wonderful breakfast of a waffle with banana and walnuts. American fries with sautéed onion on top and eggs Benedict, the ham on the eggs Benedict couldn't have been thicker. The eggs were true poached eggs, perfectly cooked. The waffle was probably the best waffle I've ever had bonus that they offered sugar-free syrup as well as regular syrup. We were very happy with our breakfast. Our only issue was that the waitress was in a rush to get us in and out of there at least we felt that way. She came back three times asking if we were ready to order as we were reading the menu, we finally said when we put our menus to the side will be ready to order. Mangrove Mike's is truly a place for the locals to eat lots of police officers and the local fisherman were there enjoying their breakfast's as well. The gift shop is at the front of the restaurant and they sell rash guards and shirts. Coming from California I had to have a good Keylime pie. I've had Keylime pie all over the country, but never in Florida. And so, I wanted to taste the real thing. Coming highly recommended we had to stop here to pick up a Keylime pie. I would've just been happy with a slice, but the giant pie beckoned us and we purchased it to bring home. We were not disappointed. This thing was huge and amazing and is nothing like any Keylime pie I've had before. This was the real thing, not artificial in any way. The somewhat untraditional meringue topping was delicious. It had a bit of a caramel toast to it, and despite being in the car for several hours, served up wonderfully. I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a Keylime pie that will knock your socks off. read more

I have been coming to Mangrove Mikes for years on my trips to and from Islamorada. I have always had a pretty good experience. The food is usually great, and reasonably priced. However this visit was sadly pretty terrible. I got the Mangrove Oscar, a usual favorite of mine. The "poached" eggs too were completely hard boiled. When I brought it to the staff's attention, she looked at me like I was crazy for asking them to remake the dish with poached eggs. Instead of remaking the dish, the kitchen took off the hard boiled eggs, put on properly poached eggs, then drowned the plate in bearnaise sauce. Because the kitchen didn't remake the dish, the steamed spinach that was sitting on top of the english muffins turned them to mush. Pretty horrible texturally... but at least they poached the eggs right. ‍ The service was overall pretty terrible as well. The server didn't refill drinks and seemed to be more interested spending time in the back of the house, than attending to her tables. I gave it two out of five stars simply based on prior positive experiences. This visit should be given 0 stars if that was even possible. Please look at all my other reviews, i'm generally pretty positive and it takes quite a bit to earn a terrible review from me. read more

A hidden gem! Stopped in for a quick breakfast with a few friends and we were so stunned by how amazing our food and service was! Let's start with Service; the staff is extremely accommodating and they are working their butts off the entire time because this is a busy spot! We were never looking for the waitress or needing anything, she anticipated everything that we might need and they were so accommodating when people wanted to share meals. Now the food, the French toast sampler is a must try! Every single one of the flavors was delicious and we ate them and rated them after each flavor, the whole concept was just such a fun idea! The portions for all their meals are so big so it's very share friendly if you're someone who doesn't eat all that much and every single thing we tried was delicious!
