Thanx to fellow Yelpers and my love for some good fried chicken, I managed to make a stop while in the area for sandwich. COVID has us all jacked so I wasn't expecting much but a to-go lunch. When I arrived the 1st thing I noticed was outdoor seating... but with temps of 110 degrees, that was the last thing on my mind. As I approached the door, they had signage saying they were going to open the patio the following week so this gives me something to look forward to on my next trip. Dining area was closed, but the staff was very helpful. The menu isn't that extensive, but for people who don't know about "hot chicken", you gotta be careful so they fill you in on everything like you were reviewing a contract... All jokes aside, I went with the Yardbird sandwich and the fries... The FRIES with the BBQ rub are dope. I like crinkle-cut fries so that's a winner for me. I pulled over to a local park, blasted my music, and had a picnic in my car. Overall, the sandwich and fries were great. I got the right spice level that brought out the flavor and because they only cook upon request, it was hot, crispy, and juicy. Extremely happy with my lunch order... It's a bit on the high side for takeout in the car ($15) but it didn't bother me as I was supporting another local business and got something that wasn't the norm to my lunch routine. Mrs Chicken is a small casual fried chicken restaurant. They offer what they call Nashville Hot Chicken and varieties without heat and in-between. I tried the HOT two piece dark chicken (leg, thigh) with mustard slaw. My chicken came with shattering crisp exterior and a wonderfully moist juicy interior. At first I thought it wasn't so hot but the heat is accumulating and got really hot fast. I thought it was very tasty hot fried chicken. I only had genuine Nashville Hot Fried Chicken that was actually made in Nashville once. This chicken did differ to me but it still was good chicken that was spicy and it was priced very reasonably. After reading all of the reviews- I decided I HAD to check this spot out! I must say- first of all, the spot was super clean! Fantastic! No one was in the restaurant, everyone was outside! I have to admit that I was prepared to to over pay for a scrawny chicken sandwich. I have to be honest, I was pleasantly surprised! It was sizable, seasoned well, and worth it! Here comes the bad part- the thing that they called butter cake. AWFUL! It was NOT butter cake. It made me think of a craigslist ad where they say it's a purebred Great Dane, but in reality it's a tall Chihuahua. It wasn't cake. I love this place. Order quite a bit. But past weekend, I was a bit taken back. I pre-ordered right around opening time. Went in to pick up and was really taken back to see the two girls in the kitchen openly eating in the kitchen .As they were preparing my food. No hand washing. The food was decent for fried chicken, but I am originally from the "real" south and was severely disappointed in spending THAT much on some chicken that left me feeling a underwhelmed after being so excited to try it. We've driven by this place a bunch of times and finally decided to check it out. It's a cute little spot with a simple menu. David, who took our order at the counter, was awesome! He answered all of our questions and provided great service. The food came out fresh and hot and was pretty good! I ordered my tenders mild, but they were a bit on the spicy side. A definite improvement from the opening days as far as the flavors and service. The flavor is definitely on the track of Nashville hot now and not buffalo. As for heat, I love and hate the chase for the heat and they were very respectful and dare I say conservative with there scaling. The skin is definitely very crunchy but to my preference the very thick breading is a bit much and really worked my jaw. The mustard slaw has been my least favorite of the sides although I still hold to the belief that there collard greens reign supreme. I imagine I will be back just because I have a hard time saying no to chicken shops bit will definitely be trying something different on the menu. read more

Went to Mrs Chicken today for lunch. Arrived around 11:30am. No one in the lobby other than workers. Ordered a quarter white. I was told it would be about 15 minutes. 15 minutes went by and no one came in to the restaurant. Then out of nowhere a guy comes in and gets a huge order in a paper couple paper bags. I figure out that this must be a take out place. Meal arrives and it is grossly overcooked and the skin of the chicken felt like it could break a tooth. Best I can figure, is the cook out back was focused on the take out order and let mine overcook. I can't even tell you what I tasted but it wasn't moist nor was it good. Collard greens were good. We are already fans of Frashers and now of Mrs Chicken. The fries have a deeelish spice rub on them. The tenders are real tenders, not the same old tenders you get everywhere else. Also not sure if it's the sauce, but it was not as crispy as I would have expected the fried chicken to be (maybe only one or 2 bites had a crunch to it). 3-Point Review Food - Omg I LOVE MRS CHICKEN! I'm not even kidding I think about eating here at least 3 times a week lol. So I've gone plenty of times, tried just about everything but the chicken sandwich (and some of the sides) and really love how they do fried chicken. As with all the chicken items on the menu, they pre-spice the batter to what level of spice you want (Mild up to Super Spicy) I always get the standard "Hot" level. It's different than other bone-in fried chicken because of the spiced/flavored batter AND the skin DOESNT stick to the meat like most places. It's truly amazing wow. Each meal includes a piece of toast & a side of your choice. The fires are thick cut and great too. You also get to pick a sauce, I always do ranch. I don't want to exaggerate too much but this maybe the best fried chicken in America! I've also tried their house dessert "Butter-Carmel Cake" and it's sooooo good Service - It's a fast casual restaurant, so you order and sit then you pick it up. I usually call my order in roughly 15-20min AHEAD of time because everything is made as you order and you need to let the food cool down for a few lol. They do not ask you if you want side sauces so make sure to ask since they do have a good selection (honky tonk, ranch, blue cheese, honey mustard, bbq). The sandwich was tasty but I did not like the cheese. The wings were tasty and crispy. The tenders are lightly breaded similar to a Culver's tender. The tenders were also soaking in their own oil. It's nice that they are accommodating to multiple heat strength requests. Overall, Mrs. Chicken has some good hot chicken. If you try the XXX make sure to bring milk. Heat scale: Classic- Tasted like a basic seasoning. Mild- Tasted less spicy than a hot Cheeto. Medium- The heat was similar to a hot Cheeto/ talki. The average spicy connoisseur most likely won't be able to go past this strength. Hot- Similar to going to a Thai restaurant and asking for the hottest possible. The heat lingered only momentarily. XX Hot- Must have been labeled wrong since it was not as spicy as the "hot." XXX Hot- Tasted like something you could only get at a hot sauce store. The heat hit your tongue instantly. The red beans and rice are soupy and lack any kind of spice or flavor. It looks like it should have flavor, but it doesn't. The best part was the fries. Yup. If the best part of your meal is French fries then you know you messed up the rest. 2 stars is generous. I am comparing this to the flavor of Monroe's in tempe and it is so unfair to Mrs Chicken. I got take out, 3 medium hot tenders with a potato salad. And I am so sad that it was so bland. The crust on the tenders was nice, nicely fried and a little heat to it but it needed salt. The chicken needed salt. My potato salad was just a cut up potato and mayo, no seasonings, not even some mustard and a pinch of shredded cheddar cheese, a pinch of cold bacon and the whole top covered with chopped green onion. I got a ranch and a honky tonk sauce. Ranch was sweet like mayo and honky tonk was also sweet. Not my favorite. I noticed Mrs. Chicken was open and I could place an order directly through yelp. The photos I saw online made the chicken look amazing. The chicken sandwich was actually HUGE in person. I don't think I was prepared for all the juicy chicken goodness! At any rate, I devoured the entire thing along with the generous portion of fries. I decided to try the medium sauce which had a slight kick but I do think I'll go up one level the next time I order. If you're a fan of hot chicken you will probably want to try a level above medium for your spicy fix!
