The good thing is they arrived within an hour. The tech was capable and had the latch changed in 30 min. Then there was the cost. The invoice was $500. $200 for the labor which I'm not arguing with. The only part he used was one latch which he charged $295 for that can be purchased for $58. No new keys, no cylinder no other parts. Even if he buys that latch for $58 and doubles the price we still were substantially overcharged. Its very disappointing and I wont call them again. Update, the owners called me within an hour of my original post to apologise and refund some of the money. read more

I had the exact same experience as two of the other reviewers on here. At 5:30pm dispatch told us 25$ for the locksmith to come out and 35$ + for the job. Sounded great. At 9:30pm the locksmith shows up and starts on the job. Lock removed and changed in a matter of minutes. Great!!! How much? 450$ "But your office said it starts at 35$!!! How is it 450$!!" "That's the price of the lock and labor and the late night call." After an hour of arguing with these guy, I finally asked them to remove the lock and told them I was not paying for the visit. I was not happy at all with this place. I ended up calling another company (Affordable Locksmith on 15th st) today. 120$ and 1 hour later the job was complete and I was very happy. read more

I'm a little conflicted about reviewing Mr. Locksmith DC because it seems like a pretty reputable business and my dealings with them over the phone were fine. That said I think customers should be warned that if they call Mr. Locksmith for an emergency lockout, the person they send might be an external contractor rather than an employee. I had a frustrating experience with a dishonest contractor who quoted one price over the phone; another when he arrived; and yet another after the door was open. As I untangled the conflicting strands of information about his business (multiple phone numbers, conflicting business names and email addresses) I realised I'm far from alone. His details led me to a bunch of consumer complaints on scam watch and Better Business Bureau websites. I get the impression there's a pool of unethical contractors operating in the DMV that has been able to fly under the radar because of established companies like Mr. Locksmith DC. The common denominator of several complaints is the apparent entity '24/7 Locksmith Services (Washington DC; Maryland; Virginia - 855 530 1847). That was the name on my invoice, though I was actually billed by A1 Locksmiths DMV, which seems to have at least four phone numbers associated with it. It might pay to confirm exactly who Mr. Locksmith DC is sending before agreeing to have someone come out and help you in an emergency. read more

I called this company tonight because I was locked out of a room. But as the phone rang I started reading some of the horrible reviews on Yelp and hung up before anyone answered. Leo called me back and said that he just missed my call, and I explained why I had hung up the phone. He said that his competition posted many of the negative reviews on Yelp, and that if it would make me trust his company he would give me a flat rate for the entire job, and also be at my home within 30 minutes. I chose this place based on the reviews and called them to have them fix or replace a deadbolt. they were able to get someone over very quickly but that was the only positive thing I can say about the experience . I was told the Yale lock on the door could not be fixed and they would have to replace it. They put on a cheap, no name lock and charged me 160.00 for. The person installing it had screws all over the floor and I had to remind him not to step on them as they would damage my floor. I would not use this place. . The final bill actually came from a place called ESKENDER TESHOME SERVI.so it may be that this place farms out work to different locksmiths and it's just luck as to whether you get someone good or someone terrible like I got.
