Truly an excellent job at a fair price. Changed the locks up as requested, then went out of the way to fix the door. Had me test every lock and key myself, gave great advice. read more

Quick service quick response respectful to the owner of the apartment, followed up as promised, reasonably priced would use them again .

Reliable, professional, and easy to work with. I've been working with Upco for several years now, and they've never let me down. Their team is always straightforward, responsive, honest and professional. we've had them install smart locks and rekey doors at different places over the years, and the work has always been solid. Most recently, we ran into a no-easy-fix, with a locked interior door, but they stuck with it and resolved it beautifully. One hundred percent a company I trust and recommend. read more

My family had an excellent experience with Marcelo and Jose and 10/10 will be hiring them again for any locksmith needs in the future. They were professional, courteous, and excellent communicators throughout the entire process of changing out our old lock. Marcelo was incredibly knowledgeable and had no problem answering all my questions and explaining each step. They took the time to make sure the lock fit and the door closed perfectly. And, the price was incredibly reasonable and matched what was quoted! I would highly recommend Marcelo, Jose, and UpCo to anyone looking for locksmith services. read more

Upco Lock & Safe are an awesome local business. I have listened to podcasts about how the locksmith industry can be really scamey so when I knew I needed to get new locks at my house I was worried the process would be frustrating. I went with Upco because they are local and have been in business for ages. They were completely professional, extremely easy to schedule and coordinate with, and did the job quickly and smoothly. Have worked with them twice and will continue to do so every time I need locksmith services in DC. Highly recommend. read more

Contacted when deadbolt from interior of house to garage "froze" and would not budge at all. They were responsive, quick to diagnose the issue based on photos, quoted a price, were transparent about the quote being based on that diagnosis, were friendly, prompt, absolutely correct in their diagnosis, and they fixed the problem quickly and thoroughly. There were zero surprised and zero hidden costs. I will absolutely use them again if the need arises. I will note that they absolutely could have said "we need to replace the entire lock" and I would have been none the wiser, but they determined that one particular thing was broken and that replacement of the whole lock was not necessary, which was less expensive for me. This was about a month and a half ago and the lock and door work better and more smoothly than ever. Highly recommend. read more

This is the second time I used Upco because of a great experience the first time. The locking device failed on my desk at home, which prevented me from opening the drawers, even with the key. Marcello and Jose are very nice and knowledgeable. They were able to get into the drawers pretty quickly. I opted for them to remove the locking device. Also had them re-key a door in the basement to match other doors. They had locks in their truck and asked for multiple keys to test the new locks. They had me use the keys while they were there. Both Marcello and Jose wore masks and put booties over their shoes which is very considerate. I always wear a mask out of respect for contractors coming into my house. Highly recommend. read more

Although I opted not to receive Upco's services and try to resolve the issue on my own, I commend Marcello for his honesty and commitment to the profession. After being trapped inside, even with the door knob being taken out, Marcello noted that if I could unlock the door from the top, I should be able to attach the knob to the latch and turn gently to get myself out. Most other locksmiths would have said: "Ok you're trapped. It'll be $150. I'll see you soon." Not only is Marcello a kind person, but he is also thorough in his analysis. He was the only locksmith in town who asked for pictures so he could assess the problem and try to resolve it. If you're in need of lock and safe services, I highly recommend Upco! This isn't a company that will try to cheat you out of your money. read more

Got my house rekeyed. I was able to book an appointment within two days, and they showed up within the appointment window. Rekeyed all the locks and the new keys work perfectly on all of them. Also gave some helpful advice on reliable key copying services (apparently True Value On 17th is really good). read more

I needed a key duplicated - I tried it at the kiosk at Safeway but it said I had a special key and they couldn't do it in the machine. So I found Upco on Yelp with its high reviews and went there. I easily found street parking, walked up, and within a few minutes they had duplicated my key. The price tag? $3! Excellent service, excellent price. I will come back for any key duplication and any other locksmith services. read more

I called 3-5 local locksmiths at 10pm on a weekday evening after a set of our keys was taken along with a valid ID which had our address on it. Upco gave me the lowest quote. Plus, their office is located just a few blocks away. The locksmith, Marcello, did a great job and even offered to re-key our deadbolt which we have never used since moving into our apartment because our landlord didn't have the keys for it. Now it works! Marcello was very patient in explaining everything to us and wrote up a very thorough receipt in case we have to submit it to our insurance company or landlord. Highly recommended! read more

Had a terrific experience with these guys. They are in the neighborhood in Mount Pleasant. They trouble-shot our old front door handle, and they realigned the bolt lock so that both things would close more easily. They came exactly when I asked and were done within 1.5 hours or so. Also very nice! Highly recommend them. read more

Marcelo is AMAZING! My building in Cleveland Park uses UPCO Lock for all of our door maintenance and rekeying. We found them by chance and they were able to make improvements to our front door so they latch more securely and we won't have to replace them for several more years. We also have UPCO out twice a year for tune ups. I can't recommend Marcelo at UPCO Lock enough! read more

I asked Upco to rekey several locks at our residence. They provided sound advice about how to manage my security concerns, completed the work quickly and at a very reasonable price. Perfect! read more

After a theft at my office, I worried that they'd somehow figure out that the keys they stole went to this house. I'm probably being paranoid since my home address wasn't anywhere near the thieves' action, but whatever. They got my keys, so I still wanted the locks changed. My first stop was True Value on 17th, because they're knowledgeable and I thought they might recommend a good locksmith. I could have just used Yelp, Angie's List, or Google, but I wanted a seasoned referral. Don't hate me, but I often think five-star reviews by themselves can be untrustworthy (although the low reviews can tell you a lot...). Anyway, they recommended this place, and I called. The first piece of good news was that he wanted to come that day. Seriously. He was ready to drop everything and be there by 6! But I had to go out that evening, so that wouldn't work, and besides, I was pretty sure the key thieves had no idea (yet) where I lived. They'd have to see me go home first, and I didn't go home on Friday after they hit my office. So I felt temporarily okay and made an appointment for first thing Monday morning. He showed up as scheduled, re-keyed two locks better than new, and went on his way. That plus the reasonable bill (not exactly cheap, but not a ripoff and no rush fee) would have been enough to get a good review, but what happened next is why I'm going to write three reviews: here, on Google, and on Facebook. I screwed up and forgot to have him re-key the back door lock. D'oh! How could I forget? He had checked it for something else, but I forgot to say "Please re-key this one, too." So, red-faced, I texted him later and asked him to come back. I fully expected to pay another fee. However, he came back out for free. I repeat. He. Came. Back. Out. For. Free. Okay, so now that bill went from "not exactly cheap" to "bargain." read more

I recently bought a new condo in Washington DC and the realtor recommended changing the locks and suggested I call UPCO for the job and ask for Marcello. I could not have gotten better advice! I was still out of town and so we did everything by phone and he was able to access the building and install a new digital local for me and I paid over the phone - easy peasy. Excellent communication, responsiveness and attention to detail. How do you spell locksmith in DC? M-A-R-C-E-L-L-O! read more

You never want to use a locksmith but when you do you should consider UPCO. My partner and I were coming home one evening and couldn't open the door to our unit. It seemed that the deadbolt was broken. We called UPCO and they were at our place within the hour. The locksmith who arrived was professional and courteous and used his breadth of experience to determine that it was actually the bottom lock that was broken and he removed it for us. We later bought a new handle and deadbolt, and installed it, but then noticed that the door would not close and lock. We called UPCO again (after hours) and got voicemail. UPCO called us back quickly and the same locksmith responded within the hour. He used a file and a lot of elbow grease to expand the opening where the latch catches. We have a functional door thanks to UPCO! read more

I've called Upco, twice, in the 6 years I've lived in a historic, quirky building in DC. Marcello and his capable assistant are peerless. He responds quickly (one of my issues was a lock out at night) and he is quickly able to assess the best solution for any issue. My problem this week was more complex and involved an old screen door that would not shut/latch and then caused an issue for me not being able to shut my apartment door. The solution he found was creative, maintained all the old hardware I love so much and fully fixed the issue - and he restored my door and hardware to full working function. He and Upco have integrity, pride in work, and professionalism - and I wouldn't think of calling on anyone else for any issues with my locks or doors. Best of the best. read more

Top notch service! Marcelo helped me on a wonky lock and even came to work on his day off, knowing I was on a time crunch. That is customer service! read more

I have called UPCO twice over the past few months and have been extremely pleased with their professionalism and the quality of their work. It is always a pleasure to talk to Joanie when I call in. The first time I called, I had just moved into my condo and needed to have my locks rekeyed. Joanie sent two professionals out the very same day. They were both very courteous and efficient. They cut a new control key for the lock and then rekeyed the lock. More recently, I decided I wanted to install an additional security deadbolt. I ordered an interior-only deadbolt and, after my great experience, naturally called UPCO back to install it. Joanie sent two men out within a day. They were again very courteous and efficient. They did a beautiful job installing the lock into the door, and they even swept up the wood shavings from the door! I was impressed. I had a visitor from out of town when they came who remarked about what a great job they did. The prices are reasonable and they take credit card. I couldn't be happier with the service they've provided and will be sure to call them in the future for anything I might need. read more

I needed my locks quickly replaced and I'm really happy with their responsiveness. I called on a Sunday afternoon and my locks were replaced within 24 hours. Also, as a woman living alone, I felt really comfortable working with this team especially when there are so many locksmith scams in DC right now. Great, easy explanations and they will try to save you money wherever they can. Great business all around. read more

Locked out of my apartment on a Sunday night and called UpCo since they're in my neighborhood. The technician (Marcello) arrived within 20 minutes (earlier than the estimated window they gave me via phone) and was incredibly friendly and helpful. I was grateful that he checked my ID to ensure it was my apartment before letting me in. I plan on going in next week to have a few more spares made... love the service and professionalism. read more

I would definitely recommend UpCo to anyone in the area needing lock/key services. I needed a new set of keys for a filing cabinet at work and UpCo was quick, prompt, and affordable. The service was professional and friendly, and the keys were ready in less than an hour. So great! I hopefully won't lose any keys in the future, but if I do, I'll definitely be coming back. read more

Friendly, prompt, helpful, reasonably priced would recommend and if ever needed would use this company again. (Marcelo liked our cat even!) Thank you for your help. read more

I've been having a good experience with the company. Recently needed to have my lock from the previous owner changed and install a smart lock. Marcelo gave me the estimate by looking at the pictures and the price was fair, I also used a yelp promo and got a small discount. We scheduled a visit and everything was done fast, Marcelo was very nice and friendly, explained everything he was doing and checked that the lock worked smoothly. I also ordered a new key for my old mortise lock from this company ( the price sounded fair as well) and looking forward to have it done. Overall I'm happy and would recommend this company if you're having trouble with your lock in DC read more

Excellent service, quality workmanship, and a convenient downtown DC location. UPCO has repaired and/or rekeyed both interior and exterior locks for our Dupont Circle apartment building, providing as many keys as needed for our residents. I've recommended them to apartment owners needing key or lock service and everyone has been well satisfied. Locksmiths arrive as scheduled and are both knowledgeable and courteous, with great phone support from office staff. Try these guys and you will NEVER call anyone else! read more

Great service and professionalism. Quality work at a fair price. Trustworthy. Highly recommend.

I would recommend UpCo Lock & Safe Service to anyone. Recently, I arrived home late one night and discovered I had forgotten my keys at work. This was the night before a holiday and I wouldn't be able to get into my office. Fortunately, UpCo was able to meet me at my home within 20 minutes and open my door for me at midnight! The locksmith who assisted me was friendly and informative. He was very helpful. Thank you so much for your help. read more

AMAZING service! This establishment has excellent customer service!! The staff was willing to come in a weekend for me within a hour of my calling. After visiting 4 locksmiths stores in the DC area, it was a relief to hear UPCO Lock & Safe Service would be so accommodating! They made my key in under a minute. Hands down a great place. They are wonderful and I am sure their good karma will go a long way. Thank you UPCO! read more

I stupidly locked myself out of my condo unit and UPCO saved the day! I called and Marcello was at my place in less than 20minutes and finished the job in even a shorter amount of time! I most certainly have saved their number for the future. Fast, professional and friendly! Thanks so much!! read more

If you ever need a locksmith, cannot recommend UpCo highly enough. Professional and responsive from start to finish. They were able to re-key me down from seven (7!) house keys to one. Replaced double deadbolts to a more fire-safe thumb turn. And swapped out a broken door handle. read more

This review only refers to their "retail" storefront, where their website promises all-day store hours. I drove from 25 minutes away because I was having difficulty finding lock & key businesses with a retail counter. I brought a few projects along with me: a lock I need re-keyed and another I needed repaired. After waiting for several minutes at the counter in an empty room, a woman emerged, surprised to see me, to tell me all of the locksmiths were out on calls for "some time". I have no idea how they do in the field, but do not bother going to their physical location. read more

Marcelo was very kind in helping me get access to my room after locking my keys in. The skill he has in his craft is incredibly admirable! I have great respect for the swift and meticulous work he did. I reached out with urgency to gain access to my room and thankfully he was located in the same neighborhood. From the time of the call through the signing of the paperwork it took a total of 40 minutes. Thank you Marcelo for your quality service! read more

Friendly, fast, and reasonably priced emergency lockout service. Thank you for saving the day!

Last time I needed a locksmith I got scammed and so I looked around more carefully this time. The reviews for UPCO were great and when I called to ask for a quote, they were very forthright in answering my questions about pricing. The tech came over very quickly and during the window of time they said he would be there. He did a great job and their rates were reasonable. The tech was courteous and professional and honest. read more

Excellent service. I called late night and I got an immediate response. The locksmith arrived within 30 mins. Fast, reliable and affordable for a call after business hours! read more

A quick prompt reply was the prime reason I chose them. I had to get my lock re-keyed and get a new smart lock installed. Upco was professional and they walked me through all my options and scheduled a day for installation. The lock installation went great and I even used a Yelp deal for the service. I would definitely have them on my list for any future locksmith services. read more

Thank God for UpCo and their 24/7 emergency service. I am a new DC resident who recently locked himself out of his condo...with this dog still inside! After a few moments of hysterics, I googled locksmiths. UpCo was my second call, but the first to respond. I was immediately given a price and the promise a technician would be there within a half hour. He got here after only 20 minutes. He was calm, cordial and professional. He got me in and charged me the price as quoted. Great service and reasonable...considering the alternative! Highly recommend! read more

These guys arrived within an hour of me calling. I was locked in my apartment, and they were able to open it and not only replace my lock, but fix the original problem, which was poor construction of the doorway. I'm so glad I found them, thanks to Yelp. I'll be using them for my future locksmith needs, which hopefully won't be for a long time! read more
