My old lock, on an old door, had been sticking so I called to have it replaced. instead they were able to re-jigger the old lock & re-align the door so that the lock didn't need replacing. Great service. I had a problem with a couple front door locks. I remembered that I had used them many years earlier so I called in and the obviously experienced locksmith was here the very next day. It looked at first like I might have to replace a lock mechanism but he suggested a repair instead which he completed then and there. All done within an hour. He also noted some friction between a security door and its frame and he even volunteered to grind the metal to relieve the friction. Very happy and I highly recommend them. read more

He rekeyed 19 locks, did so locks on some doors could work with the same key thus reducing the number of keys I carry around, explains what he can do and is doing and the fees for various options well. The fees are reasonable/fair. I had him make a few sets of keys for the rekeyed locks - all of the keys work. When we first moved into our house on Capitol Hill in 2016, John came out and got our whole house rekeyed for us. Responsive, professional, fantastic work. We didn't need a locksmith again until just today, when after a three day search I had finally given up looking for my presumed-lost house keys. I called, Steve answered right away and said John was in the area and could come by. Of course, no sooner had I spoken to them on the phone, the keys turned up. So if nothing else, give them a call because they have the magic power to help you locate your keys! We still had John swing by anyway because we were considering switching to a smart lock and he walked us through all of the process and helped us order the hardware we'd need. I apologize for just swearing at whoever I was talking to on the phone but I am literally locked inside my house and very frustrated. We had the New District Lock and Hardware people - Jerry - come out and put a new lock on our front door the week we moved in. For some reason that locked failed after several weeks and we called New District Lock back. They came out and said we needed a better lock which they installed and we paid for. This new lock just failed after less than a month! The key will not turn in the door either from the inside or the outside. I called New District Lock and they said they had no one available until tomorrow. We don't have any other access to our house other than the back door and then to climb over an 7 foot fence. We have called an emergency locksmith but will never use The New District Lock & Hardware again. Use them at your own risk! read more

5 STARS! Called them after reviewing yelp reviews. Asked them to re-key whole house when we bought a new house--had many outside doors and 2 gates with locks and some inside locks. Also added a deadbolt. Jerry was our guy. Very courteous and trustworthy. Liked how he stamped keys so I knew which was which. Also very knowledgable about locks. Would definitely use again. Something wasn't right with one of the key sets which was discovered 2 years later and Jerry returned and didn't charge me. Would use for all of my key and lock needs. This seems like a small business which I like a lot. They were readily available, friendly, and I assume reasonable price wise-- I didn't shop around, I'm generally frugal and the pricing seemed reasonable for great service. I'm so glad to have these guys in Capitol Hill! The first time I called Jerry came out and re-keyed all of the locks in our new house. The second time I called, John came out and installed a new lock on our back gate and helped with a few miscellaneous issues. Both were very courteous and upfront with pricing. I really appreciated John explaining a few different scenarios for me when it came to fixing a broken spring in an old mortise lock on one of the bedroom doors- basically he explained he could re-make a custom spring ($$$) or just swap the lock ($) with another door in the house that didn't get much use. At the time the service charge was $85. So as soon as they step through your door you are paying at least $85, plus whatever work needs to be done. It's not cheap, but I think the cost is worth it because they do really good work and it's supporting a local small business. read more

Making the appointment was very easy. We needed a key made for a pretty old steel door in our basement. The person who made the appointment even had me go look at the door to see what type it was and then quoted me a price based on them having to drill the door. We made the appointment, done. Simple. On the day of we had a 10-12 window. They did call to let us know that the locksmith b was held up on a previous job and it would be closer to noon. They ended up arriving closer to 1. I was not present but for whatever reason (even though I'd explained the type of lock and what we needed) the original quote went up $60. Then, when my husband went to pay cash - the locksmith didn't have change so we paid ABV additional $5. They did to a good job and my husband said that the locksmith was friendly and professional and advised him about re-keying the locks to our home etc, but those two things did rub me the wrong way. If you are a no cash business - you should make it a point to let customers know ahead of time and also if you're not entirely sure - a price range is safer than increasing the price when you're on site. All things considered, I would 100% use them again and would recommend them also. read more
