So that John is "something special"... After reading my initial post regarding scheduling an appointment, he responded very quickly! John was extremely concerned and bothered by the feeling I had expressed as it related to his company. He took the time to sincerely apologize and to offer a resolution to the issue. He left his direct number and I gave him a call as soon as I got home. John heard me out, came out to my house (after business hours) extracted my key and was out in less than 5mins!!! I was almost speechless by how he went above and beyond to fix the situation. He didn't charge me a dime and I did offer to give something just because he was so nice and apologetic! It's good to know there are still a "few good people" out there! Thanks John! read more

Friendly and reliable. Was able to change my locks in a quick turnaround before I moved into my new place. Answered all my questions and taught me a few things about what services/products to look out for. Will reach out to them again if needed. read more

When I called New District Lock, John answered the call and quoted me the prices of jobs I planned to do. He was friendly, knowledgeable and upfront with pricing. Jerry came out and re-keyed the lock, and installed a deadbolt lock. He was on time and also very professional, get the jobs done in a very effective manner. The service charge was $85. But in the end, the total cost was still reasonable. Highly recommend! read more

I cannot recommend District Locksmith more highly, especially John's services. I was nervous about calling a locksmith in the middle of the night when I found myself locked out of my apartment but John came to the rescue and I was pleasantly surprised. He was friendly, fast and made me feel very comfortable. It was so nice to see a friendly face and a genuinely nice guy. I would not hesitate to call him for any future lock work I need. John truly has a passion for Locks, even old locks like mine. He took the time to explain what he was doing and within 2 minutes he had my doors unlocked and was making me new keys on the spot! District lock has my business for life. Safe, honest, fast work that is guaranteed! Thanks John, you are the best!! read more

From rekeying my existing lock to helping me choose a new locking system for an airbnb to being endlessly resourceful in finding parts for the inner workings for the ancient steel door I have, John has been incredible. I rely on his good guidance and appreciate his humor whenever I need assistance. The rest of the team are great as well. Highly recommend. You'll never need another lock service. read more

Making the appointment was very easy. We needed a key made for a pretty old steel door in our basement. The person who made the appointment even had me go look at the door to see what type it was and then quoted me a price based on them having to drill the door. We made the appointment, done. Simple. On the day of we had a 10-12 window. They did call to let us know that the locksmith b was held up on a previous job and it would be closer to noon. They ended up arriving closer to 1. I was not present but for whatever reason (even though I'd explained the type of lock and what we needed) the original quote went up $60. Then, when my husband went to pay cash - the locksmith didn't have change so we paid ABV additional $5. They did to a good job and my husband said that the locksmith was friendly and professional and advised him about re-keying the locks to our home etc, but those two things did rub me the wrong way. If you are a no cash business - you should make it a point to let customers know ahead of time and also if you're not entirely sure - a price range is safer than increasing the price when you're on site. All things considered, I would 100% use them again and would recommend them also. read more

Reached out to New District Lock and Hardware to rekey our new home and they were great. Jerry came out almost immediately and walked me through everything he was doing, answering all my questions. Quick, efficient work at a competitive rate. Will use them in the future. read more

I owe my sanity to District Lock, specifically to John, who responded on a Saturday and came out within an hour of my call to change out my mailbox lock when my keys had been stolen. John's knowledge of all things related to lock security really inspired confidence that I'd made the right choice. He even recognized the exact lock model on my front door from out on the sidewalk, gave me advice on what to replace that lock with in a few years when it wears out, and did the replacement on my mailbox without even slightly denting the box. The repair took all of five minutes. Then, when I mentioned that our front door lock sticks every time you try to open it, John diagnosed the problem immediately (our HOA had not known how to fix it). He then FIXED the problem by replacing several screws and putting a shim behind one of the door hinges. He did this all out of personal kindness, charged me nothing, and has now saved all the residents of our building from having to use both hands and repeatedly cutting their fingers trying to turn their keys in our lock. Even though I hope to never need the services of a locksmith again, I would welcome working with this company at any time. I wish they had other services so I had other excuses to have a service experience this positive. read more

We've used New District Lock for several smart locks over the past few years, and they've been great. Very responsive on the phone, and Jerry has been terrific with the installations and trouble-shooting -- explains everything, happily answers all questions. Plus fair prices and 90-day support. We wouldn't use anyone else. read more

John Professional, courteous, friendly. We got the job done with no hassle and no issues. I feel good about the experience. That's what you really want from a locksmith right? read more

District Lock is professional and courteous. Yesterday, I had them out to replace hardware and re-key a door. In fact, I was going to replace all the hardware everywhere, but John explained that re-keying the front door would be cheaper for me than reinstallting the lock set. It wouldn't have taken any more time for him to install the new set, but it would have cost me more money. John arrived precisely when he said he would. He did the job thoroughly and quickly. He explained to me what the different problems were that he was addressing (each of the four doors was different and each had quirks better left to a professional) and he answered all of my questions. There are a lot (A LOT) of fly-by-night locksmiths who will show up, diagnose your problem in a way that is quick for them and expensive for you. This is not District Lock. District Lock is a real business, managed and operated by professionals who take pride in their work and who care greatly about customer service. As long as I have doors with locks, it's District Lock for me. read more

If I could give 10 stars I would! My situation was a sticky one and let's just say that John was incredibly professional, reliable, empathic, and 100% solid! What could have been a nightmare - went soooo much smoother because he did what he said he would... Thank you John and the District Lock Team, you are all super heroes in my book!! read more

These guys are the absolute best! I've used them twice already and couldn't be happier with their prices and services. Use them!

New District Lock and Hardware was great in re-keying my condo. I called them and they were very responsive, offered several appointments, showed up on time, and were very knowledgeable and communicative. The locksmith obviously knew what he was talking about and what he was doing. 10/10 would recommend again, read more

I just moved into my home and realized I needed to rekey my home. They were highly rated in Yelp. Service was easy. I got a quote right away and an ETA. My locksmith was great, understood that I'm a new home owner and took the time to educate me about what he needed to do. He even set me up with one key to all my doors- much better than the eight different keys I had before. Great services and I'd use them again if I needed a locksmith. read more

John from District Locks came out and was excellent. He was quick, efficient, and the best part was how reasonable the price was - $175 for re-keying 6 locks. WARNING - DO NOT CONFUSE DISTRICT LOCK WITH ANOTHER FRAUDULENT COMPANY. We accidentally called a different company that fraudulently impersonates District Lock, which sent out a technician that quoted us almost $900 for the same job! It was a complete con job. Make sure you call District Lock and not the fraudulent imposter like we did. read more

Jerry, son of owner, did a superb job re-keying my condo unit the other day! He went way above and beyond to include re-orienting the cylinder that was upside down previously. Wow. So respectful, on-time, quick work, great work ethics. Can't get any better from the customer's perspective! read more

Responsive, quick, efficient, and on time. What more could you want? For months, I kept meaning to go to the hardware store and replace my cheap door handles with better quality ones. But I'd get overwhelmed by choice (color, brand, how am I supposed to know what's good?) and seemed to never have the time. These guys came to the rescue! Jerry came to my house, showed up on the earlier end of the 2 hour period, brought a few options (none of which I loved), helped me search on Amazon for door handles that would match the rest of my hardware, and then came back to install them. A little pricey, but SO worth it. read more

John came out to rekey our locks and we were very pleased. He was easy to communicate with, easy to schedule the same day, prompt and worked quickly to sort out our locks. Competitive pricing and very professional. Highly recommend! read more

District Lock has always been terrific. Unfortunately I can no longer recommend them due to a recent issue regarding a refund we're owed and were promised. Long story - but after three months still no refund and I just filed a complaint with the BBB which I really did not want to do. Of course, it's not about the money at this point just really poor business practice. UPDATE: Within 2 hours of posting this review I was contacted by John. He was courteous and genuinely concerned about this situation. As I expected, it sounds like this was an anomaly as upper management was unaware of what was going on. I had a refund check the next day that John hand delivered and wrote out of his personal account. That's true customer service and what customers can expect from District Lock. read more

TK: Agree with all the previous reviewers! I originally made an appointment with another locksmith company but they did not deliver (the person who was supposed to come got held up somewhere and the person who came in his place did not have equipment to deal with a slightly more complicated key situation). After waiting for that other locksmith and then learning they could not do it I really wanted to get it done and over with that same day. I called District Lock at 2 PM and by 4.30 PM I already had all my locks re-keyed! The lady who answered the phone was very friendly and while she couldn't promise someone could come out straight away she promised to try... and indeed, John came and did a wonderful job. John was friendly and explained everything (including why I did not need one extra thing I thought I needed and would have paid more money for..) Highly recommend them. read more

I have used District Lock over for 3 years for all the properties I manage on a daily basis, and they are the best in the business! They have an extremely courteous staff that is very knowledgeable and will deliver top notch service! I highly recommend using them. read more

Responsive and quick. Not super cheap, but not unexpected for the area. We've had them out for a variety of problems including Lock changes, knob replacements on a door that kept getting locked from one side, etc. will use again. read more

Jerry of District Lock came by to fix our main door lock. We were cringing, expecting the word that we were going to have to replace the lock with a new one at $1,500! Jerry made adjustments, oiled the mechanism, and it seems as good as new. And the price was pretty reasonable! Good going, District Lock! You're on our list of go-to people. read more

Great company. These guys were prompt, made a good temporary fix while we waited for an obscure part to come in, and then finished the job... With confidence-inspiring skill and service. And I was shocked at how reasonable the price was. Trust these folks... One call gets it done. read more

John was soooo helpful! He just asked me a few questions over the phone, had me sent him some pics and the next thing I know I'm installing my own locks! Saved me the cost of coming out to do it. I will DEFINITELY use these guys anytime I have locksmith needs. Thanks again John! :) read more

Called John early in the AM. Our nanny locked her keys in her car and we needed to get the keys out before I left to work. John return my called within minutes and was by the locked car within 15 minutes of our initial call. He got the car unlocked in under 30 seconds. I was on my way to worked at the normal time and John couldn't have been more courteous and professional. I would trust him with any job and highly recommend him to others. read more

Last Saturday I had a appointment with District Lock to replace my dead bolts on my two security gates. The technician who came to my door (I'm sorry I forgot his name!) was prompt and friendly. As promised he came within the 9-10 am window (he came exactly at 9:30am). He had a great rapport, chatting me up about my dogs which was nice. He was friendly and had great customer service! When the new lock on one of the security gates interfered with the lock on the door, he made sure that all the locks were functioning properly and made sure all the holes were aligned so everything fit perfectly. He explained the bill to me which was just as expected. He was efficient and got the job done right! Would use them again in a heartbeat! read more

Jerry just finished up at my house. I had a deadbolt that I lost the key for and another deadbolt that broke internally. He fixed up everything quickly, and for an excellent price. He's a super nice guy to boot. I can't recommend this company highly enough. read more

i accidentally locked myself out of the house last week. I found District Lock on Yelp and decided to call. I was able to reach a locksmith on the after hours line and he gave me an estimated time of arrival which was about 2 hours after the call. To my surprise, the locksmith beat me to my house and waited patiently. He was able to unlock my door swiftly! Thanks John! :) read more

Updating my review. There were a couple of scheduling mishaps at first that were not ideal, but I am very happy with how John ultimately remedied the situation. As soon as he heard what happened he called me to offer a very sincere apology, reschedule a time directly with me, and came out and did the work free of charge to make up for all the miscommunications. He also replaced two locks for me in a matter of minutes. Miscommunication will happen -- it's how you respond to those types of issues that really demonstrates customer service...and John proved that they take those things very seriously and work hard to ensure you have a good experience. I really appreciate that! read more

I had originally posted about District Lock damaging my door, installing a faulty lock, and being unwilling to fix it. But I just spoke with John, the senior locksmith, who reached out because I was dissatisfied to explain the situation. Apparently I was the victim of a scam artist, and it was not District Lock -- something that apparently happens more often that you think and I urge people to be on the look out for. While my issue is still not resolved, it is not District Lock's fault -- and I appreciate John reaching out and explaining. read more

First, I live in the city and expect strange and sometimes bad things to happen. Well my house was broken into (while I was asleep) and my stuff (as well as my Jeep!) were stolen. I called District Lock and Cathy (I think was here name) was VERY helpful and accomodating and was able to juggle other appointments so someone could come out to my house right away. Steve showed up and was wonderful! He promptly fixed the lock and made me 4 keys. He was also very nice and helped me close the basement window that was kicked in. He made a few recommendations regarding my window (how they got into the house) and after I clear with the landlord, I will call District Lock to come out again to do the work. And the price was very, very reasonable! I highly recommend these folks!! read more

Great service from these guys. I needed a lock repaired and even though it wasn't urgent they were able to come out the same day. The locksmith was fast, professional, and did the job right. The price seemed fair. I would definitely use District Lock again! read more

John is a rockstar. I was initially ready to have another locksmith blast the Kryptonite bike lock off my bike after I mistakenly lost the keys. District was more expensive - thus my initial hesitation - but after talking to John at length, I cancelled my appointment with the Other Guys and had him come on over. He's incredibly devoted to standing behind their services, mission, and work at District Lock. He had the right tools for the job, came right over, took care of business and released my bike back into the wild from captivity. I would use and recommend District Lock to anyone who needed a locksmith in a DC minute. read more

I moved into a new home and needed to get the locks on my door re-keyed. For reasons unknown to me, I had two other locksmiths not return my calls. District Lock was responsive and when I said sooner was better they offered to send someone the next day. 15 minutes later I got a call from John saying he'd finished early nearby and could come right away if I wanted. Awesome! Was a 15-minute process, very easy. read more
