Great customer service and best of all great work. They've come out to the house on several occasions and have done exemplary work. I would highly recommend this company. read more

What a simple clean process when I locked myself out of my house. They answered the phone immediately when I called and agreed to the time I requested. Jerry arrived exactly on schedule, communicating by phone in advance. He opened my lock in seconds, then fixed it and another lock. Price was very much in line (or less) than expected. I would highly recommend this family business for any lock needs. read more

I hired District Lock to review, repair, and install new locks in a new office I purchased. John came out the same day I called and worked on 11 different locks. He was quick and professional. He discussed my needs and gave me a reasonable price. I will call them again for the next job. read more

Great locksmith - highly recommended. John came out to fix the lock at my place. He couldn't find a problem on the first visit (no one was home when he came but he worked on the lock as arranged), and I called to explain more about the issue and he determined that the whole lock/handle had to be replaced. He came back a second time to do that, and rolled all the charges from the first visit forward to cover some of the costs of the second visit. His communication by phone was perfect - very sharp guy. His punctuality and professionalism were outstanding. Their prices were quite reasonable. I would highly recommend District Lock to anyone in the DC area needing a locksmith. Why try out an unknown company, when these guys are fast, cheap, smart and reliable? read more

Good service. Professional and veery courteous. Got me out of a jam that was my own making. Thought I could do it myself. Terry did in 30 minutes what took me several hours and all I did was mess things up. Worth every dime! You don't mind paying when you get the service. Pleasant people as well. Thank! Steve read more

I'm new to DC and foolishly locked my keys in my car. When I called, John fit me into to his schedule immediately. Within 20 min he came and unlocked it. I've used several different lock smiths, even my insurance companies, but District Lock is by far the best!!!! The service fast and friendly. I give this company two thumbs way up!! read more

District Locksmith helped us rekey our front door. We had a great experience with John - he called in advance to tell us there was traffic and he would be 10 mins late, then he arrived and fixed our issue rather quickly. He also answered some of our questions about other locks in the house. Overall great experience. I wouldn't hesitate to call John again! read more

I've feel like I've been doling out a lot of 5 star reviews lately, but I guess I've just been lucky (or I screen everything I do on Yelp first). I can't resist giving some love to District Lock. I called in the afternoon, and unlike other places where you have to go through several phone calls, call centers, call backs, etc., at District Lock I talked to a person in Washington DC right off the bat, she gave me a straightforward price, and scheduled an arrival time that day. John arrived exactly on time (even a bit before I managed to get home from work). He was fast, professional and friendly, which helps when you've managed to lose your keys and you feel pretty stupid. District lock has 24/7 service, and while I hope I won't need their services again, next time I get myself in a stupid situation, I'll know who to call. read more

I called District Lock after hours during a week day to request a replacement fixture and lock installation on my door. They sent someone the following morning. They were incredibly professional, accessible, and provided a high quality service. I would highly recommend them. They are also one of the oldest locksmiths in the city. Love supporting mom and pops! read more

I had my house rekeyed by district locksmith - their customer service was great from answering my call to scheduling John to complete the job. He was very knowledgable, reliable and got the job done. They were also able to be at my house within a short period of time when I locked myself out. I highly recommend them. read more

Unfortunately, this is a case of who spoke last. I called this company two days after the service to tell about the problem. The next contact was from John who told me to use WD40, which didn't work. I told the company that. The next day, I called a different locksmith because I needed to have access to that door that day. I can appreciate that this company has a warranty period, but I couldn't wait for that period of time. If someone can't remember that I spoke to the company last, please don't accuse me of not giving you an opportunity. My issue is resolved, so I don't expect another last word. read more

I've been using District Lock since 1989, through ownership and a succession of personnel changes, through their transition from a storefront to a virtual service. Through it all, they have been very responsive to all my security needs, along the way adjusting doors and providing much needed advise on old home workings. They have seen me through a variety of DC homes during almost 30 years and I haven't found a better locksmith firm, or a nicer group of caring professionals. read more

Fantastic experience. They were very flexible with our schedules, and once the locksmith arrived he was knowledgable, highly skilled, and very pleasant to be around. Also, he worked very quickly, and our locks were changed within probably 20 minutes, and he went out of his way to explain the services that were being provided. They almost make me want to lock myself out of my house more often just so I can deal with them more often! read more

Jerry came over to replace all of our locks today, and we could not have been happier with his service! He was friendly, efficient, and did great with the animals of the house. Well done, District Lock! I will keep your number in my phone for future projects. read more

John was a total professional and actually SHOWED UP ON TIME! He quickly installed the replacement piece to my Baldwin entry system and explained to me why it had failed. Outstanding customer service and I highly recommend them to anyone who is looking for a locksmith! I'd almost lock myself out just to experience good service that is so rare these days! read more

District Lock is great. Thank you guys for making a stressful situation significantly less stressful.

With one call, I had someone at my door in under 45 minutes, even though our issue was not an emergency. He was friendly, expedient and I never once felt uncomfortable having him in my home. Our locks work better than ever and I never once felt like he was trying to sell me into something I didn't need. We had a good conversation about the problem we were having, what went wrong with the mechanism and how to prevent it from happening again. I highly recommend them! read more

District Lock has a 5-star rating for a reason. I called them this morning to rekey two doors in my house, and they were able to send a locksmith within the hour. The person answering the phone was very polite and helpful, and it was very easy to set up my appointment and get my questions answered. John was the locksmith that arrived, and he was polite, knowledgable, and worked very quickly and efficiently. Seriously, this was absolutely a five-star experience. I'm really glad that these are the folks i called. read more

Do NOT be fooled by the other guys that pop up first on Google when searching "DC Locksmith". James & Co. saved my ass twice in one year! Great service, fair price. read more

WOW, we hired District Lock (Jerry was the technician) to re-key all the locks on the external doors of our church and he showed up charging me $5 less per lock, was quick and friendly and came back when I realized I had missed a door. This company (Jerry in particular) is fantastic and I will not use any other locksmith ever again. Thank you District Lock!! read more

Great experience with New District Lock. Arrived on time, examined our locks and diagnosed the problem; completed the repair in little time and was pleasant and courteous throughout. Prices seemed reasonable; less than other companies I'd contacted. read more

Superb service, extremely professional, upfront fair pricing, and on time delivery. I'll call them again.

I wanted a lock problem fixed, and a friend's recommendation couldn't come by until a week in the future. District Lock was able to send John on the very same day - which was fortunate because I made the original problem a lot worse by fiddling with things. John did great work and was very pleasant and courteous. And I thought the final price was definitely reasonable. As with all service providers, I hope to never have a problem requiring them to come around again, but I would most certainly call District Lock should the need arise. And to boot, it feels good to support a LOCAL DC business! read more

I've used District Lock's services more than once, and for a reason. John has always shown particular care and pride in his work. No job is taken lightly nor performed in anything but a professional, circumspect manner. Five stars- no question. read more

I locked myself out of my house and called District Lock. My Locksmith John showed up within a half hour and let me in and replaced my front door lock. John was very professional and made me feel at ease through my ordeal. Because of his good work and friendly nature I will only use him for my lock work and will recommend him to everyone I know who needs a locksmith. read more

I have been using John from District Lock for years and have always gotten prompt, professional and courteous service every single time. The fees are reasonable and competitive and I have always been thrilled to no longer be locked out, locked in, or whatever my issue "du jour" was. I can't recommend them highly enough and I think it's great that we have such an awesome service in our neighborhood. I would highly recommend to all our Capitol Hill (although I know they also travel elsewhere) neighbors. read more

My sister was on her way to work and was robbed. It was a very traumatic experience and we quickly had to jump into action to get our doors re-keyed. I called District lock and Jerry called me back immediately and arrived 2hrs. later. Jerry was so nice and very helpful. His service was truly outstanding. He provided me with a ball park price right up front. He even gave us multiple keys without charging us. Thanks to yelp and the fabulous folks who take the time to post reviews to help other customers is well appreciated. It really helped me to select a reliable emergency locksmith. Thanks again to Jerry!!!! You rock baby. read more

Very easy to schedule, very prompt in their arrival. John explained everything he wanted to do to fix our lock problem, plus he replaced a doorknob on another door. Great service at a reasonable rate. We've used New District Lock in the past and will use them in the future. read more

Very fast, professional and well-priced. Was in to my apartment within an hour of calling them. John was super friendly and worked quickly.

Our front door lock of our condo building was broken and when we called we told them it was a security issue. They had someone there in 25 minutes. To boot, they didn't rake me over the coals because we needed them. John was quite knowledgeable about key systems and they gave us a very fair price on re-keying the whole building. How is it that so many other locksmiths in the city are crooks and these guys are so professional? Totally and highly recommend them to anyone. read more

I called from Chicago to have work done at my rental property in Foggy Bottom. John called & when I didn't answer right away, he reached out by text message (which is great since I didn't know who was calling). I said I couldn't see the new lock in person but I wanted to make sure it was done "right" so he offered to take a picture & text it. In this modern tech-saavy world, that is really great customer service. Any other company would have done the job & left me with a bill, but John made sure it was done right & let me know how things turned out. I'll definitely use Districk Lock again for my other rentals. read more

John made it out to our place within a hour on a busy weekday morning. Unlocked my car in a matter of minutes. Fair price and friendly service. Call these guys first! read more

They over-patrol yelp reviews because the company is reliant on desperate people in need of a service but also know they price gauge. People in D.C. will pay the $$ so they can get away with it. But again, please spare yourself the 'its going-rate' 'we take pride in our customer service' spiel and try to accomplish the job on your own. I encourage EVERYONE to try a bobby-pin, credit card, or whatever it takes to spare yourself the remorse I felt after paying so many hundreds of dollars for work that took this guy less than 10 min. I am still ashamed I did not try to do on my own what a locksmith company like District Lock will take you straight to the cleaners to do... read more

After getting stuck in my entryway and having to have the fire department break me out, bending the deadbolt of the gate (all before 8 am yikes!), I called this lock shop to see if I could get someone to come and help me out. Kathy was more than understanding and courteous on the phone and was able to fit me onto the schedule for that day. John the technician arrived right on time and had my lock fixed and the doors open in under 20 mins. For such excellent service the price was reasonable. I would recommend this lock shop to anyone. Their fast, efficient, and courteous service was all I could ask for. read more

Seriously one of the best customer service experiences I've ever had. Needed a lock re-keyed and needed it done quickly before I was to head out of town. They answered promptly on a Saturday morning, the woman who took my call was friendly and helpful, and there was a locksmith at my house within the hour. He was running a little bit behind what I had initially been told, so he called ahead to make sure he had all the details and let me know he was running behind... even though "behind" was still arriving in less than an hour. John worked quickly and efficiently, was incredibly friendly, and had us all set in no time. It was an absolute pleasure doing business with them and would recommend them to anyone! read more

Friendly, dependable, and superb customer service. Highly recommend John and team!

District Lock, the locksmith service formerly associated with the long-defunct District Lock & Hardware Store on 8th Street, SE (Barracks Row), is still serving customers on Capitol Hill. Apparently, the owners of the locksmith service were different from those who owned the hardware store. I have used District Locksmith recently to service the Mul-T-Lock system on my house and they still provide the same outstanding, professional service. They're still the best locksmith's in town (in my humble opinion). read more
