John and Naomi provided excellent service. As a first-time homeowner, John very patiently answered detailed questions for me about the best lock and keypad set up for my front door. Naomi was very patient and helpful with setting up my appointment and payment, and the tech followed up with me after just as promised when I made the appointment. Definitely recommend ASL and would have them back again. read more

10 stars to Vince and Area Safe & Lock. Vince came out to upgrade my locks. Not only did he do an excellent job, he was also extremely nice and a real people person. I was getting over a back injury at the time and there was a heavy, rolled up rug in the hall which we had to step over because I couldn't move it. When I apologized for this he scooped it up with one arm, said "Where's it going?" and took it downstairs for me. He even brought in my trash cans without my asking. I've worked with AS&L before. They are a highly capable and effective team. They have my highest recommendation. read more

Customers beware! I needed two trim plates for a lock I was installing and made the mistake of going to Area Safe and lock. Parts were hanging on the wall and I took them to the counter with the price tag ($14.95ea) facing up so the clerk could see them. I was advised that was an old price and the current price was $38ea. I questioned their pricing policies and was told the owner John has them doing their pricing on a daily basis because prices change every couple of months and not to be using price tags any longer? I'm just a contractor trying to make a honest living and advised my client to the situation. Needless to say that's two people that will never return! read more

* updated to correct Shep's name. Mom locked herself out of our condo while house sitting, so we called Area Safe and Lock after a few other locksmiths said they couldn't get there for a while. Shep arrived in under an hour! And not only did he get Mom back into our home, he suggested options to fix or replace our troublesome lock, so we won't accidentally get locked out again. Will absolutely call Area Safe & Lock first in the future!!! read more

I recently locked myself out of my apartment. I was only stepping out to go downstairs for laundry and happened to lock the door behind me out of habit. To make matters worse, I had just begun boiling water on the stove to make lunch just before I walked out the door. When I realized my mistake, I immediately called Area Safe & Lock who quickly understood the severity of the situation and sent a technician out within 20 minutes from Arlington to Capitol Hill to help me get into my apartment before the boiling water on the stove turned into a much larger problem. Highly recommend this place for their efficient and courteous service. 10/10 read more

We needed help quickly because the housing for the deadbolt lock on the front door somehow had loosened off the door itself, making it tough to lock or unlock without a struggle. I got in touch with Area Safe and Lock, and Darren came over that afternoon and got the lock usable again. He also gave advice for what we could do to adjust the door itself to improve the fit. Prompt intake from the business owner when I called and prompt, effective, and courteous service. read more

Our entry lock was messed up and they came next day. We had been having issues with our Medeco lock and he figured out the screws weren't long enough when Baldino's put our original lock in. Awesome. It's working very smoothly. read more

Excellent service by Jim. I moved into a new home so did the typical lock rekeying. I took the first appointment of the day because I hate long arrival windows, and he called me when he was 10 minutes out (ended up arriving 10 minutes early). Two deadbolts, made slightly more "interesting" by the fact that they were electronic keypad locks as well as deadbolts. Jim easily took off the locks, gave me some tips on how to best manage electronic keypad locks since it was my first time owning one, and wrapped up in about 45 minutes total. Half of that time he spent in the van doing the actual rekeying and hammering out the keys. He also noticed one of the deadbolts was slightly catching on the door frame when the deadbolt was engaging. Seemed to bother him more than me, but he took an extra 5 minutes to bend a metal piece to make it completely smooth. He was very conversational and provided me some useful information about home locks and locksmith services I may need down the line, and made corny jokes along the way. If the service being amazing wasn't good enough, they were also slightly less expensive than another locksmith that I contacted for a quote. Two deadbolt rekeys with 4 original keys provided at the end for $150. Highly recommended, great service, good price, and extremely competent. read more

This review is specifically to thank technician Jim Dunlap. He came to my home today to install a new Schlage Smart Lock and corresponding door handle. He explained everything he did to me, was very pleasant and even taught me some things about locks I didn't know. So many reviews are filled with negative reviews that I'd like to share my positive experience. Also, the staff at Area Safe was responsive and sent a technician same day to home. Highly recommend! read more

Area Safe & Lock Service - Keys & Locksmiths Near Me - Alexandria, Virginia

It's incredibly disrespectful and immature that this company chooses to park their vehicles right in front of other key safe companies in Del Ray. On top of being petty, they also can't drive well, like the vehicle blocking a two-way road this morning at 11AM and HONKING at drivers trying to come down their respective side of the road. You represent a company when you're driving their vehicle. Do better and be more mature, you'll have more respect and business that way. read more

Area Safe & Lock has all the "key" things we needed (I know, bad lock humor) for two issues at our DC company, the first in the summer of 2016 and most recently last week. I was referred to them by one of their large residential customers in Arlington, and after frantically calling locksmiths all over DC who advertised emergency service (but couldn't make it for a few days, two did not show at all), I smartened up and called AS&L. Robin scheduled it all for me last year, I knew what time they would arrive, and the two guys last summer were great. After an employee termination last week, we needed 10 locks changed with a couple of strange components involved. Robin scheduled JD to come out, he called me to let me know he was on his way and he solved our problem (well, at least the ones related to locks) in under 4 hours. He also had a few good tips and hilarious stories, which are always appreciated. Give them a call - you will most likely get Robin on the phone - and she will get you all the help you need! read more

"A Rip-Off" My experience wasn't one warranting five stars. Far from it. Coming or going, just for them to ring your doorbell will cost you about $200. They've got that policy all squared away. Even if it's something simple to fix, and they only stay fifteen minutes, you're going to get gouged for $200. They tell you about this pirate policy up front, but they know they've got you over a barrel. They can make money hand over fist without doing this, but they do it anyway, because they've figured out they can get away with it. It may take food off the plates of your children, but, hey, who has a conscience these days? When they're done, they'll even tell you why what they've done for you is "a favor." read more

They did my house several years ago and the service was friendly, knowledgeable, and efficient. I came back to get some copies made and same thing again. I highly recommend them. If you get locked out , they can help too. I got locked out on a holiday weekend and they told me they could help but warned about the holiday expense- thus I opted for another way to get back in. read more

We've been using this company for years. They never disappoint. Always come on time and do friendly, quality work at a fair price. Best and most reliable locksmith in Alexandria. Has large selection of specialty locks and safes. Locksmith will come to home or business.

Had a great experience with them. Robin was very friendly, took my info down quickly and efficiently and within an hour sent locksmith J.D. to my home to install a new doorknob on my nonstandard front door. He was super professional, eclectically knowledgeable and explained everything he was doing to me in a way that better educated me on how to enhance the security of my home. Highly recommended. read more

Before the Area Safe & Lock guys even left my house, I'd already recommended them to my next-door neighbors, and I'll keep doing so. The whole team wase fantastic from start to finish! From the people I spoke with on the phone (Tina & Junior) to the ones who came out to do the work (Luke & JD), everyone was friendly, professional, helpful, and efficient. They gave me a same-day appointment and then came right at the start of the window. When the first guy who showed up noticed an unpainted part of my front door would show around the new faceplate he was going to install, he called a colleague to bring him one that would hide the different color, without my ever saying a word. The second guy was at my house within 20 minutes. Both of them were super friendly, patiently answered all my questions, and made sure I understood how the new locks would work differently from the ones they had replaced. I wanted to take some time to leave an unsolicited review here as I believe it's well deserved. This business is excellent! I stopped in to ask some questions and look to purchase a safe and John was so helpful to find the right one for me needs. The safe wasn't in stock but I was in no rush with an upcoming move, so he ordered it on his next shipment and it arrived very quickly! John even offered to hold the safe for me until I moved, so it would be easier for me. When I went to pick it up, he assisted loading the safe into my car and explained exactly how to set it up and change the code. All around remarkable customer service and a business I will certainly recommend to anyone in the area! read more

We've been doing business with these guys for a long time now, and I can honestly say they are the best game in town when it comes to locks. They know their products/services, are prompt to come to you when you need at home service, and most of all they are courteous. After making the mistake of walking into a Baldino's recently, I am now an Area Safe and Lock customer for life. Bottom Line: Great family business with unbeatable customer service and product knowledge. read more

I can't say enough great things about Area Safe & Lock! We needed to get our doors rekeyed ASAP, and from the initial phone call, Robin was very helpful - offered to send someone out first thing in the morning. Their prices were not just competitive, but lower than the four other locksmiths I spoke to. They did not charge us for providing multiple new keys. The locksmith arrived on time, exactly when they said they would; and he was very fast - it was done within 30 minutes. We were already more than pleased with their level of customer service, but what happened next deserves a ten-star review! The same day, our nanny got locked outside the house and all the new keys were still inside, along with our 16-month old son! We called the locksmith, a bit panicked, and they rushed back over and had the door unlocked within 15 minutes - free of charge. It was great working with such a competent, friendly, and customer driven company. This is the only locksmith I will use in the future! Patronize a great local business! read more

I have been using ASL for several years and continued to be impressed by their knowledge and expertise. Initially, they handled the locks for my condo and most recently my home. Today, I called because our 1936 original door hardware decided to lock us out of the house. Within an hour, Darren was at our home and repairing the lock to perfect working order. Previous attempts to repair the door hardware were unsuccessful with some providers telling us that it would cost hundreds of dollars for it to work again. Darren was incredibly professional about what was involved, how long it would take, and how much it would cost. While he was here, we had him re-key all our exterior doors (which had been on our to-do list). Bottom line: if you need anything related to locks this is THE place to go. Thank you again ASL for the quick response this morning! read more

these guys were on the pricey side. I went with them because they were the same locksmith company that installed the previous locks, and one of the few in the area certified to work on Mul-T Locks. I had to get 4 locks rekeyed, two for the front door, and 2 in the backyard. they charge 15/key copy for the Mul-T lock keys. they also charge a 75 dollar labor, which I wasn't told about when I got a quote on the phone. Jim, the locksmith was very nice, explaining and answering any question I had. all told, It totaled nearly 450 for all the work. Realize, prices may vary, as the locks I have are the higher end, very secure kind. you get what you pay for, and I sure paid a pretty penny, but feel they did a quality job. read more

I am awarding a one-star rating for this business' customer parking lot. It is entirely too small in size with too few parking spaces.

Same day service. Front lock was working intermittently. I could not count on my front door unlocking. Sometimes I had to use the back door. That was a real safety issue. If Freddy Krueger blasted through my rear door, I would never have escaped through my front door. And those knives for fingers would have done a real job on me!! Freddie is one creepy guy! To the rescue came Jim! All I needed was for both dead bolts to be cleaned and lubed. Jim is one charming guy. Very affable. And he knows his stuff. He handed me his card when finished. I told him I had another similar card upstairs. Well, it happens that over ten years ago, he visited my home to install new locks. I had an old card with his name on it. How amazing is that! Area Safe and Lock Service was 5 star from the first call to request service, to the goodby/thankyou hand shake. read more

On separate occasions, I've taken commercial locks in to get re-keyed. Not only have they been very helpful & extremely quick with the turnaround, but they have been reasonably priced in a way I am not used to seeing out of locksmiths. Additionally, I just called them about cutting a car key, a service they don't offer. Not only did a real person pick up the phone after 2 rings, but he immediately gave me the name of a local shop that offers that service. I will continue to use Area Safe & Lock as my go-to shop for all my locksmithing needs, knowing that even if they can't do it, they will still be pleasant and help me get my needs met. read more

Worked with Robin here to set everything up, and she was great! Incredibly responsive and friendly about explaining all the different options to me for a rekey on our new house. This is a top-notch business to deal with. Robin politely and efficiently scheduled my appointment and was wonderful to deal with. The technician, Daren N., called me before arriving, was right on time and was a knowledgeable professional. He answered my (dumb) questions politely, worked efficiently and was great to deal with. Plus, he was just a nice guy to chat with. I'm not a big Yelp reviewer but I was so impressed with this place I had to write a review for them - I called another place first and they never called me back - glad they didn't because I'll give all my business to Area Safe and Lock. read more

I called Area Safe & Lock to set up an appointment to have the locks in my new house re-keyed. The receptionist was great and they were available at the time that I requested. However, the locksmith was scheduled to arrive between 3-4, he arrived at 4:15. I never received a phone call from him to notify me that he would not be on time, it was only when I called the main office was I told that he actually was still coming. Other than that, the actual service was great and the technician was done quickly. He also spent time explaining our particular locks in detail. read more

I REALLY wanted to give this company a better review... I had my locks rekeyed back in March and had an extremely good experience working with Robin and scheduling someone to come out. They were recommended to me by my realtor. They arrived promptly, were able to re-key the locks, and the service was very reasonably priced. In April the bottom lock on the front door jammed, and the key actually got stuck in the door until we could finally yank it out after 20 minutes and some WD-40. We used the back door for a couple days until they were able to accommodate our schedules and get someone out there. Bottom lock has worked smoothly since. Last week at the end of June, the dead bolt broke-- it's stuck inside the door. I called last week, set up a service appointment. But then had to call back again this morning because no one had called or shown up. Apparently there's only a 90-day warranty on their locks, so I would've been charged for this service visit! I'm very disappointed with the quality of the initial work. These locks should not have both broken over the last three months, and the warranty on their work should certainly be longer than 90 days. Disappointing that I couldn't give them 5 stars for the initial visit. read more

I wish I could review Area Safe & Lock concerning changing the locks on my condo, but I sent an inquiry to the e-mail address listed on their website over a week ago, and have still not heard back. Minimal stars, for the minimal (i.e zero) response. read more

Can I give them SIX stars? These guys are the best! Personable and helpful. And, most importantly for me, if you have an older, particularly European car, they have the machinery to cut STEEL keys. Based on a recent experience at a competitor, the capability of locksmiths to cut steel keys is a rarity. According to B#$^(%&#, NOBODY in the United States cuts steel keys. Easy to find store location and it has free parking. All I needed was for them to make a few spare house keys and they did a good job, the spare keys work! :) Seemed like it was a little more expensive then bringing it to Home Depot or somewhere like that... but... the keys work first try... so... in my book it's well worth it! :) read more

That they are good at what they do leaves no questions. New locks work so smoothly you don't hear them and barely feel them engage. What was extra special for me though are the things that happened without my saying anything. When contacting the company I talked to Bob and explained I needed all my exterior locks changed due to family "issues." He asked me to describe my locks and was able to give me an accurate quote on the spot, over the phone, while trying to let me keep as much current hardware as possible. While I did not ask for expedited service, Bob quietly understood my predicament, he treated me like an old friend, and arranged for someone to be at the house the next morning by 9 AM! This was completely unexpected. My technician was Vince. Before I lost use of one of my hands from a stroke, I used to work on an old car and was able to fix things around the house myself. After Vince left, I discovered all the things I had over time been putting up with for so long that they barely annoyed me anymore. From the house settling, locks and bolts on two entry doors weren't aligned with the strike plates - he fixed them, at no charge. On another entry door, the door threshold was loose - he fixed it, no charge. In addition to getting locks replaced, best of all was all using my knee or foot to get doors closed has ended. Jiggling locks to get them open is no more. Worrying if I'll get the dead bolt back open once I've engaged it is over. But, there's more. The handle on my front storm door had come off so many times I eventually said screw it and for years just used my finger in the hole to open it. Vince asked if I had the parts, I did, he fixed it so it would never come off again, at no cost. As great as all that was, what I liked best was this: there was a note on my back door - "DO NOT LOCK KNOB" - as it was common for me to rush out to do something and lock myself out (yes, I am a complete airhead). Without saying a word he installed a knob that would unlock when you turned it to go out. Pretty simple to him, but his attention and solution to a detail that would have not occurred to me to ask about was pretty damn special to me. As I started with, their professionalism is beyond reproach, but the overall experience was great! read more

This morning, I had the misfortune of locking myself out of my house while walking my dog. Thankfully a neighbor helped me look up and contact Area Safe & Lock Service.
