I got an auto answering recording that asked me hold while they connect me, then the recording came back saying "The person you are trying to reach has a voice mailbox that hasn't been set up yet. While the initial call and conversation was fine, the process continued to get worse after that. On the phone I was quoted one rough cost which we were comfortable with so we agreed to schedule a technician. When the technician arrived, he was very blunt and not at all cordial. He walked straight in and immediately started asking questions about specifics without explaining anything. He then started work on one of our doors without even summarizing the work, price, or timeline. When I stopped him and asked for that information he was not very polite and quoted as a cost that was 50% higher than what we discussed on the phone. Then when I said we weren't going to move forward because of the increase in estimate he became visibly frustrated and immediately started threatening us with a service call charge no one had mentioned up to that point. After a phone call to his partner or manager, he left without charging us the fee but was clearly annoyed at what I feel was a very reasonable set of expectations. LockBusters had a fast response time when I inquired about their services for my work office. We have a couple different kinds of file cabinets and most did not have a key for employees to lock up their stuff at their cube. We needed some new keys made and one cabinet needed an entire lock system replaced because it was missing. I was originally interested in getting two keys made for each lock, but at $45/key, this was very expensive! I told the locksmith I would prefer someone come out to our office for an in-person quote, even though they told me the price, because the cabinets did not have any labels about what kind they were or who manufactured them. I wanted someone in person to look at the locks and make sure they could make the keys, instead of ordering keys and then finding out they didn't work. I was first told to take a picture of each lock that needed a key, since the lock would have numbers and letter indicating what kind of key to order. The numbers and letters were SO small, that my phone had trouble getting a clear picture. I called back and said, please send someone out because I didn't want to send photos since it was difficult to get a clear picture, and I needed around 15 keys made - AND not all the cabinets were the same. I worked with Ben who was polite and came out to look at the cabinets. He looked at a few file cabinets, took a few photos and then asked for pen and paper. I was wondering why he didn't have something to write down the information with, since he knew it was more than a couple of cabinets. Another thing I noticed was that he took a call while we walked around the office. It was clearly a call from someone inquiring about their services, so I'm guessing his number is also the main number? We had people working in the cubes, and taking the call in our office seemed somewhat unprofessional. We had the 15 keys made in a few days and Ben came out to make sure all the keys worked. I ended up needing another key made a couple days later, but when I texted Ben about the key, he said it would cost $90 for him to come back out to our office. I ended up finding another cabinet that "needed" a key, so $45/key + $45/key = $90. Again, the price seems way over priced, but I need the one key, so...yeah. I contacted Lockbusters for a quote via Yelp and heard back within the day. After receiving the quote I gave them a call and David was able to come out the same day. Most might think that a locksmith service is pretty straightforward but here is why they were worthy of 5 stars: 1) David provided me with a quote based on the general info I gave him however after coming on site, he said I could opt for a less expensive method since the locks in question were newer and in good condition. I truly appreciate that he wasn't looking for the upsell but rather what was best for the current situation. 2) Patience. I was driving down from Reston to the house and was dealt with a 1-2 punch of a closed road on one access point and a car accident on the other. I lost my keys and with a little one at home we knew we needed to get rekeyed ASAP. Only our lock manufacturer is out of business and rare. They offered to make a key for us on the spot. First he asked if I was locked out of my house. I said no, and that he could come anytime that day. He said between 5 and 6, and called at 5 pm on the spot to let me know he was on his way. Instead of building a new key we decided to get a new deadbolt (just made sense for our family) and he walked us through the options, offered to give us a temporary lock if we chose an option that he didn't have on him, and then when we had a complication (holes in our door weren't being covered correctly) he made sure we could talk through several options to solve the problem. Oh, and he didn't charge an arm and a leg. He was very very fair considering how much time it took to drive to our house, uninstall and reinstall a lock. No service done. I am writing this review and giving 5 stars based on an honest estimate received. I live in a condo with a central mailbox and I lost my mailbox key and could not open my box. Through Yelp I requested quotes from various locksmiths to come and replace the lock. Generally the estimates were around the 150 dollar range. LockBusters replied and said that they were happy to help but they suggested I contact USPS first before paying a locksmith. I spoke with the mail person, and sure enough, they told me that I could easily do this myself. It cost me 10 dollars to replace my own lock with the help of my mail person, and I would have spent much more than that without LockBusters honesty. Not every situation is as straightforward but honesty matters. If I ever needed a locksmith in the future they would be my first call hands down. Well done. read more

Aside from being super courteous and charging much less than the competition (I looked!), he also consulted on a very complex situation whereby the walkout basement sliding glass door lock cavity was stuffed with cardboard from the previous owners.
