Could not be happier with these back to back day appointments. Contacted Brian to schedule both a servicing and a look over of our system. Agreed on an appointment date for the next week but then got a message from Brian on the day before the scheduled date asking if a day early could work. It did and Hernan was sent to do the work. Loved the guy! Serviced the equipment and noted that a capacitor on the fan wasn't performing right. Discussed it and changed it. The attic ac/furnace was also not set right and that too was corrected. We hated the way the registers rattled in the rooms of the home so we discussed that with Hernan and agreed we wanted them swapped out. Hernan looked them over, took the measurements, and said he would locate new ones and get back to us with a second appointment date. The next afternoon he called and asked if he could install them. Really! Over a 24 hour period we'd had two service visits and now have a system working the best it has worked! As Hernan is leaving, he says I'll see you in a year unless something comes up! I just had the most unprofessional interaction with a technician I've ever experienced. He yelled repeatedly, he barged into the house then left and slammed the door all about a broken part I knew nothing about. He apparently was talking to my dad who wasn't even here instead of talking to me and magically expected me to have known about their conversation. The unit that they installed 2 and a half years ago has crapped out on us twice and all we get is more invoices and no explanation of why faulty parts are continuously being installed. Never again. The initial install of our new A/C was a nightmare. The quality of the work and the workers was of the lowest quality. They put a hole in my garage ceiling and left it until I called to complain. They put cracks in the ceiling all around the house while working in the attic space. During the drain water tube installation they forced a 3/4" connector into a 1/2" drain tube and it wound up splitting and leaking water down through the wall and destroying the sheetrock wall. Then, they charged us to repair their own mistake. I don't think it's been a year since they sent another technician who doesn't know what they're doing to repair the crack in the tube and the leak. Right where he repaired the leak has cracked again because they did the same thing and forced too large a connector into the tube. These people are useless and if you use them it's at your own risk. read more

Mr. Cool (Brian) and his expert team installed a ductless, dual head Mitsubishi mini split system in our garage apartment. The work was fast, professional and cools the space perfectly. When the 20 year old AC went out, Mr. Cool walked us through all of our options and told us what he would do if it was his home. That's how he treated us the whole time! I highly recommend the ductless mini split system. Brian is an expert in these systems. Someday we plan to call him back for our next project...converting an AC system in our rental house (that he actually installed in 2003) to a ductless mini split because they're so much more efficient, cleaner and easier to service in old homes. I became a customer a few years ago. AC stopped working. Hot, but it was spring so I had a little time to work with it. My regular AC company diagnosed the problem as [some part]. Very Expensive Repair. I had a second company I had dealt with check it out. Very Expensive Repair, but... different price. Hmmm. They pointed out the part needed is no longer in production. A quick Google showed both companies were charging me astonishing markups on the part... Like, 200% and 500%. Neither had it in stock. As they said, it was no longer in production. *I* could save over a thousand on the part by ordering it, which is all they were going to do. Frustrated, I went to Yelp to look for a smaller company. I read reviews, looking for hints that someone might be more focused on straightforward pricing. Companies deserve to make money, but there's no reason to tack 1K+ onto ordering a part that is only available from a single source, single supplier, that would be shipped. Mr Cool checked it out, gave a very small quote. He then went to his truck to try to source the part... came back in, apologized, and said the part was only available from one spot blah blah. He showed me the same source I found online, and said "so it's going to be X$ more, because this part is X$ more than I thought." So... he charged me his regular labor rate plus the cost of the part. I saved thousands. Still expensive, but not ZOMGSELLTHEDOGS expensive. He threw in a tune-up. He's awesome, honest, and fair. After that, he warned, "I get busy in the summer. I only take new customers when it isn't summer - this was close! Be sure to mention I've seen you if you make an appointment. I get busy." Since then, no trouble. He or his other guy comes once a year to do a tune up. He's not the most sociable - some chalk this up to unfriendly (not true). He's very busy and has almost no staff so no overhead. This translates into reasonable prices at the expense of sometimes having to wait for a return call/text. I'm OK with that. He's responsive, fair, and talented. I recommend him highly. read more

My upstairs air conditioner went out Tuesday night and I decided to use yelp for the first time. I found Brian (Mr. Cool), read through the reviews and then called around 21:30 expecting to get his voicemail. Instead he answered the phone and walked me through some basic troubleshooting which pointed to the capacitor being the problem. As busy as he is during this time of year he offered to fit me in the following day. He called a couple of times to let me know his ETA and showed up as promised. He quickly fixed the problem (capacitor) and looked over both units to make sure I didn't have another problem looming. Can one guy really have so many 5 star reviews? I think that he deserves all of them. I called Brian on a Wednesday morning and told him that I had a problem and needed help. He was fully scheduled that day, but took pity on me (and we live near each other) and said he would come by and help at some point in the day. We used Mr. Cool (aka Brian) to install central air and heat into our home. It was an all new system (we had window units). My husband and I were pretty satisfied with Mr. Cool. Called up several company's for quotes and Mr. Cool gave me a good average price, plus they service condo's so I was in luck. I made the appointment on a Tuesday and they came the Following Friday. I told the technician I just moved into a condo recently and this was the first time handling a HVAC system. He checked everything and it turns out I put the filter in backwards (air is supposed to flow into the filter). Also my heating system was old and the chemical used for that is being phased out. He refilled it (turns out it wasn't filled properly when the cooling system was installed) so it should be good for another year. He also explained the tube in the shower to me and if water comes out, it means the heating pipes are clogged and to get it flushed. The cooling system is fine, it's new. Overall the bill was $145 for the inspection and maintenance and it's great to know much HVAC system is good for another year. read more

My downstairs unit has been failing for a couple of weeks and the drip pan is full of water. Since the drip pan is in the attic, I'm a little twitchy right now...gulp... So on a hot muggy night last Tuesday, the upstairs unit compressor decided to take a siesta. A quick check convinced me the start capacitor had blown, and in looking for a go-to HVAC service I found the king of 5-star ratings, Mr. Cool. It was late at night when I called, and sadly his voicemail message said he was taking no new customers until mid-next week. The timing sucked for us, so I hung up and left a message with another service to call me in the morning to schedule an appointment. Imagine my surprise when Brian called me at 7:20 the next morning apologizing for missing my call! I told him I hung up after hearing his message, but after talking a bit, he said he could fit me into his schedule anyway. And that's exactly what happened...his assistant Hernan arrived later in the afternoon, replaced the blown capacitor, advised doing the same for the downstairs unit because it was likely to go soon too, and why wait and waste another service call expense? Hernan also thoroughly checked out pressures on both systems (A-OK!) and coached me through cleaning out the outdoor compressors to reduce the load on the systems (and $75 if he did it right then). He also explained how the coils on my units were manufactured in a year that had a 50-50 chance of early failure, so I should keep an eye on them and be prepared. No pressure to replace them now like more greedy outfits...he clearly was looking out for me and just wanted me to be informed. I don't typically give 5-star reviews, but Mr. Cool certainly deserves it here...awesome job and many thanks! read more

He helped us figure out just the right system for us and he gave us great advice while also respecting our budget. Spoke to Brian again today about a refrigeration issue. He was taking his mandatory classes to maintain certification when I called, but he was kind enough to step out for a minute and talk me through the problem. He gave me advice on what the problem would be, how to find the part I'd need, and how to fix it myself. UPDATE: I couldn't get a moment to fix the dang thing myself and I couldn't get anyone to come out on short notice, so Brian came straight from his course and fixed the problem in a jiffy. The price he gave me including parts and labor was basically the same price that stores were quoting me for the part alone. Brian Weiss, the Owner of Mr. Fix It and Mr. Cool Air Conditioning oversaw the installation of a new Carrier Infinity System from start to finish earlier this year. Then he returned after the installation for a final inspection and to tune up a few minor items like the thermostat setting. He provided instructions on how to operate the thermostat and how to change the filter. His assistant handled the submittal of paperwork for the warranty by Carrier and the rebate from the Electric Company. This project was very well planned from the beginning and I was made familiar with all of the equipment that was to be installed. Mr. Cool ordered, ahead of time -- all ductwork, plenum material, vents, supports, gas line, drain pan, float valve, thermostat, insulation and more and it was staged at my house on installation day. This enabled the removal of old equipment and installation of new equipment to proceed smoothly without interruption. There were no surprises. The old ductwork was inspected prior to the job and the necessary changes in ductwork size, air returns, and vents were made to enable the Infinity System to breathe freely and to perform to specifications. The installation of the 4 ton unit and the heater and related plenums and ductwork modifications was done in a workmanlike manner and the unit looks very good in its location in my attic. The installation is superior to what was there before. The compressor unit outside on the concrete pad was also installed in a clean and organized manner. New cabling, line insulation, switch box and other items were used. An important detail was to replace my 22 year old circuit breakers on the main power panel with fresh breakers. The startup of the Infinity System went flawlessly. I had to learn the new thermostat, but that proved to be easy. I was glad I took Brian's advice and replaced the old, plastic ceiling vents. Some of them were in raunchy condition. The new steel vents work better and look much better. Mr. Cool replaced our old smoke alarms with combination smoke alarms and CO monitors. The system runs whisper quiet when operating in Stage 1 to 3 and makes acceptable sounds in Stage 4 and 5. The system ran very well through our long, hot Austin summer and achieved significant electricity savings when compared to the old system. Mr. Cool even provides a designated person to set up and facilitate final inspection by the City building inspector. I will look forward to Mr. Cool providing long term routine maintenance on this new system. Based on how well he maintained the old system, I look forward to years of trouble free HVAC. read more

I am DONE ever calling anybody else for air related issues. I was told that the outside air unit was on the brink of needing replacement, to the tune of $5,000 to $6,000 dollars. Brian came out, took his time, and did things that nobody else has EVER done. He explored all the options! In short, this guy KNOWS his trade inside and out. He found the issue, addressed it, and it was reasonable for what the end cost was. Brian is amazing! But good luck, Brian stays busy. It seems the BEST OF THE BEST, always do. My HVAC wall unit starting making the wrong kind of sounds so I turned it off and queried Yelp for help. I called Mr Cool first because of all the great reviews, but it didn't work out. He told me that he could get to me - in two weeks or so. Much too long do be without heat, so I ended up calling someone else. Keep in mind the one-star rating was all I could give since I never received any services from them. He could be the Archimedes of HVAC, but I'll never know. My guess is that this is a Cadillac-problem. Mr. Cool has such good ratings on Yelp that he is probably swamped with work and didn't want to bother coming out for a simple wall-unit since he could make more money on other jobs.
