Let's just say that energy efficiency and green concerns were not at the top of the list when my cookie-cutter suburban pad was thrown together. My doors: permeable. My windows: radiant. My upstairs: a sweltering hotbox fit to slow roast a brisket to perfection. And onward droned the air conditioner. Now, before we go much further, I want you to know that I am not gullible. There are no magic solutions that would turn my house into a perfectly efficient icebox. It's bloody hot out there, and the relentless sun will have its due. I'm also not a wealthy man. I would not be swayed by some silver-tongued charlatan into undertaking a massive home renovation just to save some money on my electricity bill. I was looking for quick fixes for a fair price with tangible benefits (less hot air drafting into my house and less heating of my upper story from my attic). This is where the Energy Guys came in. I chatted with the owner (Jeff) as he was working on an insulation job for one my neighbors. I hate being sold to, so I was on guard for pressure sales tactics. Jeff was reasonable, factual, and laid-back. We did a walk-through of my house and came up with list of basic fixes. Thermal imaging confirmed what I suspected. My doors were leaking due to terrible weather-stripping, my upper story was baking due to poor insulation in my attic, and my duct work was poorly sealed with precious cold air leaking into my attic. Though I have windows that are just turrible, Jeff advised me that taking a second mortgage to replace them just didn't make sense for my house and situation. I've got two kids in daycare and a prodigious appetite for fine espresso, wine, and other edibles. There's not a lot of money sitting around to plow back into my house, but the bill was reasonable. The work should qualify for rebates offsetting a big portion of the cost, but that part hasn't been done yet. Jeff and his crew were professional, skilled, easy to work with, and punctual! My upstairs feels cooler, and I can't feel hot air seeping in from my front and back doors. Even better, there are now more frequent reprieves from the droning of the air conditioner. This was my best Yelp find to date! I searched for "radiant barrier" assuming that was what we…read moreneeded and Energy Guys came up, along with a few other companies as well. I had a few energy audits, quotes and opinions provided to me by the few highest Yelp reviewed companies. Ultimately we happily went with Energy Guys to do the work. We knew that our house was too hot, our A/C was working too hard and weren't sure which of the various products and services out there were going to really do much for us. Our electric company would send us fliers about how we should get radiant barrier so that was why our search started there. Jeff came out and did a very thorough and professional energy audit. I was expecting all kinds of leaks and a long list of recommendations. Instead, Jeff was honest that our builder's atrocious zoning system (aka a cheap way to have 1 A/C unit on a 2-story home) was to blame for our discomfort, A/C working overtime and high energy bills. Huh? You mean you aren't going to say I need radiant barrier, new windows/doors, an attic full of fans and you can do it all if I sell my soul to you? Nope. Not Jeff. He did say we were losing about 10-15% of our cool air from the A/C to the attic and that everything needed to be sealed and resealed in some cases. He said our insulation was about R-30 and really wasn't too bad but if we wanted it couldn't hurt to "top off" our insulation. He said given our exact situation radiant barrier wasn't actually going to do what we thought it might. Two days later on a Sunday, Jeff and another guy came out and sealed everything in the attic and got our insulation up to at least R-44. They found places that weren't even really insulated and a few cavities that weren't insulated at all. In those spots of the home I notice a dramatic difference. We can tell the house just feels cooler and the A/C doesn't turn on as often. Even given this record breaking summer we are able to keep the house more comfortable than ever before. I am looking forward to see what happens with our electric bills over time. You will get an honest audit and budget friendly recommendations from Energy Guys! Desmond, Frank, Nick and Tyler were great the seven times…read morewe saw them over the past year, but after having to clear my family out of the house multiple times for AC issues. I'm done. We purchased a $25k American Standard system plus a $6k mini split for my garage from Elite for our new construction home. After moving in January 2025, we came home to a non functioning system after a trip in May. We had an emergency call and Frank came out and fixed the system. Clogged drain line, which after 5 months of use is apparently a maintenance issue according to them and I got to pay $447 for their services. Asked about their maintenance program, no response from anyone. System goes out 3 days later. Now it's a sensor issue, so the tech bypasses the sensor and calls it good. No charge, but also no refund for the previous service and no response on getting on a maintenance plan. Two weeks later, system goes out again it's a breaker issue. After getting that fixed on my own the system worked fine for the last year. September 2025, I found water in my garage and my mini split was leaking through the wall. One of the pvc elbows wasn't glued properly on the drain line. Elite fixed it free of charge. June 2026 my main system suffered two major failures. Leaking coil and compressor failure. Elite confirmed this, but decided, I still got to pay the $289 off hours call, while I waited around on Father's Day for them. Because I'm now out of my 1 year labor warranty, I was offered "a deal" on the service while the parts were covered under warranty. This is the point where I just decided that I could no longer work with this company and I was really out the price of a Honda Civic, minus the reliability. After telling them that wasn't good enough, their service manager Tim tried to make it right, offered to replace the parts and labor for free. If this had been the first issue, I would have taken him up on it, but I'm at a point of zero confidence in this company. Maybe I had bad luck or bad installers initially, but I decided to take care of my family and have a new unit from a different company installed. Despite what the jingle on the hold line says, which I'm very familiar with, Elite Air Conditioning and Plumbing does not care.
