Not sure how we arrived to this point of complete disappointment and frustration going from an amazing 5 star rating to now this 1 star rating. We unfortunately have had several issues with our Air Conditioning System not properly working since we first had it installed 4 years ago and you always send a technician out and they end up repairing or replacing defective non working parts. One big reoccurring problem we have several different times was installation of the drip line that runs from the inside to the outside. This drip line was a big problem due to how it was apparently improperly installed causing it not to function which shutting off the compressor every time there was a backup. This past hot summer in June our AC of course decides to completely shutdown and not cool which was a nightmare. Matt was the technician that comes out this time and did his check list inspections and testing to check all of the different areas of our unit inside and out. When he was finished he explained that he had 2 options available for me to decide to resolve this matter one was to either pay $3600.00 plus tax for replacement of new parts basically almost the same price as a new system or he could add some refrigerant for $900.00 to the system that has a 50/50 chance of even working. Well I ended up doing the $900 option of adding refrigerant. Before adding the refrigerant He said he checked the unit inside and outside plus he did some spray test to show if I had any leaks in the coils which he did not see any. After he added the the coolant he said it would take several hours for the temperature to get down to my normal setting. It was 91 degrees when he left and of course as the sun went down the temperature dropped down to the 80s but unfortunately the $900 was a complete waste not working at all. I didn't know what to do especially with my disability that has being severely affected by this whole situation and experience I just felt defeated. I started to look at the inside unit to see if it was freezing up like he said could happen sometimes and what I discovered was unbelievable. Definitely this was found to be main problem from the list of problems that was causing my ac not to work or even cool properly. The coils located underneath where the return air vent filter is located I discovered the nastiest dirtiest backup of mold, dirt and what looked like algae surrounding the whole bottom of the coils causing it not to flow properly and then backing up the drip line. I was in complete shock so I took pictures of it all of this to show my family what was discovered after their concern for well being. With the help of YouTube, and lots of reading and research, I found a cleaner that would help and getting it back into a clean working condition. Also, upon checking out other possibilities I discovered that a fuse located on the inside of the unit was blown so I changed it. Well I did it, my Air Conditioner started to cool off my house and finally getting it to a comfortable temperature. My family said I needed to call Garner to inform the manager of everything. He apologized for everything and sent out Ryan to come take a look and inspect everything once again. To make up for all the loss of money and time and frustration that I've encountered he offered some expensive courtesy prevention services that included many different things, first was to professionally re-clean all the quails and to make sure to seal off all cracks to make sure I had no leaking any air out. He said they would call me within the next few days to schedule a technician that would come out to do this project. Well that was around mid July and I have yet to hear a peep from anyone to complete what I was guaranteed. My unit has now suffered even more neglect due to all these mistakes that have been made taking off many good years I potentially did have of an efficient effectively working air conditioning. I'm left with a unreliable AC unit in spending all that money for nothing. read more

I spoke with Garner during the big winter storm and I was hoping for some trouble shooting over the phone I could do myself. Not only did they do that and helped as much as they could, they also said they'd reach back out once they could get back on the roads. I didn't think much of it at the time and didn't expect a call, but sure enough they called and offered to come out the first remotely safe day to do so. They came next day and got heat back to my house in a hurry. They were extremely professional, and George the technician called ahead and did a fantastic job. He was super helpful, very easy to talk to, did everything you could ask for. They gave me an extremely fair price even though they busted it every step of the way to help me out. I can't say enough good things about them. He even let my cat bug him the whole time. If you need help with anything HVAC, these are the guys to call. After adding freon to my system and paying $700 for the 'repair' I called another company to compare the cost. Their quote was $450 less than Garner. I read the comptrollers info Mr. Garner suggested, which states that if not itemized no sales tax is required but if itemized sales tax is required. I would have preferred to pay sales tax and get an itemized bill instead of being billed lump sum with no sales tax. Why? So I can see and evaluate the breakdown of charges. It seems to me that Garner uses this lump sum method to disguise the very high price they charge for labor. Smoke and mirrors billing practice. Had a service call to replace a fan motor. The service was good but the pricing was outrageous. The tech said the oem replacement part for a fan motor would be over a 1000 to replace but a non oem fan motor will be. 700 if I get the extended warranty of an additional 365 dollars. But if I don't get the additional warranty then its over 800. So I Paid it. Big Mistake. After calling around I was quoted different prices, the OEM part alone a Genteq fan ranged from 165 to 265. A non OEM fan motor was cheaper which is what I had installed. So taking off the price of fan motor I was charged over 600 dollars for labor for one hour work. Also I didn't like the hustle of its this price for this and its another price with service warranty. This company is not competitive anymore. read more

Recently had to invest in a new a/c system for the home. Looked on line and the first thing I saw was an add for Garner Heating & Air Conditioning. I had never heard of them until that day. Glad I found them. I purchased a Carrier unit for outside and an evaporator and heater unit for the inside. Unbelievable install. Their team showed up at 7:50 and were finished at 11:30. Consider other companies before using Garner, from the initial call they missed an issue listed with the house inspection (just purchased a new house). They never fixed that issue. We purchased a contract including 2 inspections etc ( my other half did this!!) they came & serviced the unit, then with winter coming I had to call & try & schedule another service to make sure our unit was ready for winter. I finally spoke to someone & they said they couldn't come due to our dog biting the technician. I never heard anything about this & my partner was home during that call. The dog is in the house & nobody came into the house ( they were in the attic, access from the garage) & the unit which is outside. If anybody would want access to the house ask 1st!!!! She has never done this before, however she is protective & if the technician opened the door to come into the house without knocking , I think she may bite. Why didn't this company contact us to tell us this happened? until I tried to schedule a service call we were not aware of this incident. read more

I have been having a problem with my furnace so, I used yelp to contact some A/C companies. Garner Heating & Air Conditioning was quick to reply to my e-mail and said that they could come out and take a look at it. They came out and took a look at it and said it would cost $1,075 to fix the issue. I told them that I had to think about because I wanted to get a second opinion. The company charged me a diagnostic fee, which I am good with but it was $125.00 . I have never seen a service call fee cost over $100.00. I also got a second opinion from another company and that company was charging me $522 for the same repairs. I did not even show the other company the estimate I received from Garner Heating & Air. I was also never told that Garner would charge a service fee for coming out and diagnosing the problem - when they contacted me. Bad Business!!!!! read more

About a $25 part and 15 mins worth of labor. Called and got estimated $125-$185 for the cost of the repair. I bit my tongue and accepted it since I could not find a capacitor locally and its been hitting 100 degrees this week. Showed up within 2 hours of me calling, replaced it, peppered my lawn with some Freon because the valve got stuck when they removed their gauge and get slapped with a $275 invoice for the below items: *Replace Capacitor Sprayed JS685 (insect repellent) Tightened Service Valves Cleaned Condenser Coil (sprayed my unit with a garden hose) The * represents the only thing that needed to be done. I don't have issues with insects on my AC, condenser coil does not require a commercial company to clean, you can hose it down, which is what they seemingly did. Service was good, but I am not a fan of businesses that tack on extra charges for minimal tasks that were not even requested, at a steep price mind you. Based on the quote of $125 to replace a capacitor, I paid $150 for them to spray some insect repellent(REALLY?) and spray my AC with a damn garden hose. Poor business practice in my eyes and will add these guys to my list of local companies that are out to make a quick $ off of homeowners that aren't exactly sure what they are paying to have repaired in the first place. Regardless of what the individual costs were, $275 is simply outrageous to replace a $25 part that takes 15 minutes to do, adding extra tasks onto it to make that amount appear justified is just the nail in the coffin for this one. I called Garner yesterday to check out our home in Buda. Karen answered and walked me through their options for doing a diagnostic or a full tune-up (which was $126, a good price compared to a lot of others). We scheduled for the next morning. Unfortunately it rained, but Karen called me first thing and worked with me to reschedule for a time later that morning. Jordan called me when he was on his way and met me at the house. He and his assistant were thorough, checking all the vents, ducts, outside unit, and inside unit. He diagnosed the issue we were having and promptly added more refrigerant to our unit. All in all they were done in a little over an hour for a full tune up plus extra work. I would highly recommend them if you're in the Buda or Kyle area. read more

I received a brand new carrier unit less than a year ago. I live in a 2story home and was told the pipe was clogged. Don used a compressor to blow it clear. It look like little bits of paper, rust bits, but no hair? It was difficult trying to make an appt. and the receptionist worked her magic to get someone to come the next day. These guys had came out and installed an AC in my house when my old AC was on its last legs back in 2012. I appreciated that they were at my house at 830am that morning, ready to go and just happen to have parts on their truck to fix the issue. I had another issue where the compressor was not coming on. I called them and schedule them to come out to take a look. The service tech calls me and tell me he is about 5 minutes from my house as he is working in the neighborhood. I explain my problem and he is thinking it might be a fuse. He gets to my house and starts to diagnose. He tells me its the dual zone control board. Ok, No problem. This has gone out before. Its an easy fix. I ask him how much it would be to replace it. He response with, "$700". $700? I explain to him that the board itself is only like $140. I know they have mark up on the board and its like less than an hour's worth of labor to install. Even if he was charging $200 for the board, $500 for less than an hour's worth of work? He responses, "Well I have to do other stuff too." Like what? Even if you had "other stuff" to do, does not warrant $500 worth of labor. I tell him will take care of it myself. I was about to overnight a new dual zone board to my house, I called another AC guy up who came to my house that same day, replaced the board and charged me less than half of what they were going to charge me. There was not any "extra stuff" that needed to be done. It just needed to be wired, ensure the AC came on and was cooling and was fixed. I give these Garner high marks for coming out the next day to try and fix my unit, diagnosing the problem right away and alerting me of the cost it would be to fix. The team was great! My house was not designed with a large enough fresh air return to properly utilize a 3 ton A/C unit. I found this out after a PEC energy audit. I had a plan to remodel the space once the unit failed. I told Don of my plan and would like to have the old unit pulled so I could perform the remodel. Don scheduled with Ryan to pull the old unit and they asked if I would like a couple of window units so we wouldn't be without A/C during the remodel. This was awesome. 3 weeks ago I had Max from Garner out to my house to diagnose an AC issue. Turns out he said my compressor was going out. So he told my wife the thing was going to burn out if he kept it plugged in. He said he ran some tests with his diagnostic tools. After he unplugged the compressor on a day that was at least 101 degrees outside, he told my wife that the air moving around the house would be enough to keep it cool inside. Well after an hour the house was near 90 degrees inside and we have infant children, we called Max back and he then probably hooked up his gauges for the first time, he stated that now he was getting different readings (red flag #1). We were instructed the compressor needed to be replaced along with the inner coils. Luckily the thing was under warranty so it wasn't going to cost us $2,000+. Well you can imagine my reaction when I was given a bill for $650 for the labor. The man was here for a total of 3 hours. So you can imagine he was likely only working for 2.5 of that, given the need to move tools back and forth from truck to house. There you have it, $260 per hour for labor costs from Garner. Steep you say...I agree. To top things off, the coils were not replaced. (red flag #2) Fast forward to 3 weeks later. We woke up at 4 in the morning to the house temperature going the wrong direction. That right, it was warmer then when we went to bed. I wonder how that happens when 3 weeks earlier I was assured by Garner that the AC would work fine now. So we had the owner come out and look. He stated the drain needed to be blown out. Now I wonder why that wasn't done when I wrote the company a check for $650 just 3 weeks earlier? Seems like something quick and easy doesn't it. he told us that the coils needed to be replaced and that would cost us another approx $600. Wow, so now lets add this up: $650 (including the original service call) for the first visit and "fix" and now $125 (when there should have been NO service charge because the job was not done properly the first time, but don't worry..the owner proudly told my wife that she should give him the money for this service call too) + what ever more labor it would cost this guy. He told me he wasn't making any money off this! Could have fooled me! Looks like we were about to be $1200+ into this company for something that should have been done the first time. I told him I didn't trust him and we were done doing business. Not once did I raise my voice to the guy or speak to him in any rude way. He took a very snotty tone with me at that point. Great customer service from the owner of the company no less. Also beware that they are NOT Better Business Bureau ACCREDITED. So buyer beware and don't count on good customer service from this company, because the owner "Has plenty of work to do in this area", so I guess that gives him the ability to be a deceitful jerk face! read more

Air conditioning didn't go out but was obviously not going to make it another week or two. We received a few estimates from different companies, some that I felt like were trying to sell us more than what we needed and seemed like used car salesmen. We met with Mr. Garner, which we had service done before patching up our system (20 years old). As with Garner Heating and AC, we shared a belief of quality over quantity. We went over all of the options and definitely found the system that was perfect for our home/environment. We received a very fair price for a very good service. We decided on our system, Carrier Infinity Signature series. We signed the agreement on a Tuesday and was scheduled for Thursday and possibly Friday install (everything - outside unit/duct work/etc - all much needed). Ryan called from Garner HVAC and asked if they could possibly start on some of it Wednesday since he knew they had a little time and it was a big job. Ryan and Alvin came on Wednesday and immediately began working on all the duct work. They worked they're tail off and got a really good head start for Thursday/Friday. Ryan said they would be back Thursday morning at 7:30am with his crew and they would get it all done. At 7:30 the entire crew showed up and ready to work, crew being Ryan, Alvin, Zach and Cody. These guys were definitely in sync and all knew their jobs/responsibilities. They worked all morning along. Mr. Garner brought them some Whataburger (which they devoured) and then got right back to work (no sluggishness or anything). They got it all finished right around 5 or 5:30pm, including showing me how to work the new thermostat/Infinity Touch Control. I highly recommend them to everyone. Great local business with solid foundation on a belief system of good solid work, equipment, attitude, knowledge and honesty. Don Lee with Garner Heating and Air Conditioning did a GREAT and FAST job! He called me and discussed the problem with our A/C while he was on his way to our house. By the time he'd arrived, he'd already figured out what it probably was and he was correct. He completed the job and had our A/C cooling our home again within less than a 1/2 an hour. He checked the system and even found issues that the builder hadn't done correctly and advised me on what to tell them to get it fixed under warranty.
