Serving was friendly and fast. - English is limited speaking if you don't understand mandarin just saying. Trying to make a small talk saying it's a great establishment and I got no response . We really wanted to like Mr BoBo as there aren't many restaurants specializing in claypot rice. However, this restaurant doesn't actually make authentic claypot rice. One red flag was that there was no disclaimers that the claypot rice would take at least 15 mins or so to make as that's what I would expect for an authentic made to order claypot rice. We ordered the Grilled Eel and Home-Style Braised Pork Casserole, which both came out in under 10 minutes. The pork was definitely plentiful and seasoned well but it was definitely premade and just plated in the claypot. The eel claypot rice did not have the crispy rice in the bottom of the claypot and definitely seemed like it was precooked rice that was thrown into the claypot for presentation. The food was not terrible but it definitely disappointing and not authentic. The milk custard was not my favorite as it tasted like stinky milk. Overall, I would not recommend Mr BoBo and hope they step up their game soon. read more

I did a takeout of this place and have not dined in before. I got the Snowflake beef claypot rice, it comes with a packet of sweet soy sauce but honestly it is not needed as it is already pretty flavorful. Beef was tender and generously portioned. Rice was already seasoned with soy sauce and is on the drier side which is better for claypot rice. They had a meal deal that came with a lemon iced tea which was pretty neat. I wouldn't say it is 100% authentic Cantonese but it has clearly taken inspiration from it and is a pretty good take. read more

I've been searching for a clay pot rice/ rice casserole specialty restaurant for months!! I was so curious when Mr BoBo popped up on google maps. We came on weekday around 8pm. The restaurant is pretty spacious and was about half full when we walked in. They were out of the snowflake beef casserole so we ordered the braised pork ribs ($8 + $3 for chinese sausage) and the cha sui casserole. Both came with broccoli and a fried egg. We both liked the braised pork ribs one more. It was saucy and flavorful. The rice was crunchy at the bottom - just amazing! The cha sui one was dry and the rice at the bottom got burnt. The lichi shrimp was also very delicious. The waitress was very sweet and accommodating. Overall, this is a solid place to get your rice casserole fix. I can't wait to be back! read more

It's the same reason I don't like a particular Vietnamese chain in Flushing: it's not authentic. Came across this Chinese restaurant at its grand opening. The restaurant seats four people at the bar and has ten tables. We arrived around seven and was told there would be a half hour wait time. The waitresses/servers were very accommodating and attentive. We ordered a total of five dishes and had the waitress repeat our dishes we ordered, but unfortunately one dish was still missing by the time we were done with our meal - turns out the dish was never inputted into the system. The order that the dishes came out was quite unexpected - with the appetizer coming out last. Yummy Mustard Green over Rice $12.95 Highly recommend to order. Clay pot rice was steamed to perfection, and had balanced seasoning - not too salty nor too bland. The mustard green brought out the slight saltiness of the dish. Since the rice was cooked in clay pot, there was also crispiness of the rice in the bottom of the pot. Specialty steamed sea bass with scallion $38.95 Sea bass was on the pricy side but very fresh, moist, and tender. Unfortunately the sauce was way too salty for our liking. Duck with Mint Leaf $28.95 I had high hopes and the mint garnered and very nice aroma, however This was my least favorite dish of the night. Sauce had way too much sodium and the duck meat was too dry. Brown Sugar Handmade Rice Cake $8.95 Interesting that this is an appetizer and not a dessert; it very well may have been a dessert. This was quite the nice balance with the saltiness of the other dishes. Sweet tooth's, I would recommend ordering this dish. Note that Yelp has online reservations available, but highly recommend to call and double check upon making your reservation. I found out about the grand a opening yesterday and decided to try it out with no expectation regarding service because most places with grand openings tend to be chaotic and disorganized. We arrived around 7 PM and was told there was a 20 minute wait time which is understandable. It turned out to be close to an hour. My husband ordered a blue moon and it came out warm. The bartender said she will waive the charge for the warm beer and will bring out a ice cold one, but it never came. She later said, they don't have any ice cold beer. This was very minor, but they had a whole day to chill some??? The waitress came to take our order. Within a few seconds, she said to us that the previous customer forgot to pay and left to chase them, but she never came back to take our order. Instead, she came back and totally forgot about us and started waiting another table. We sat for 10 minutes before asking someone else to take our order. Even after we placed our order, the waitress came back several time to confirm what we ordered. The snowflake beef came first. It was tender and not too salty 10/10. Next came the other items which was decent in terms of taste. While the beef was just right in terms of the sodium level, everything else was too salty. They seem to have forgotten the flat noodles that we ordered until we reminded them. The portion is smaller for the price that you pay for compared to other restaurants. I would maybe come back if there is a craving for clay pot dishes. Hopefully next time, this restaurant is more organized. read more

I have been searching for a good clay pot rice dish since the place in Chinatown by the Manhattan bridge closed down 15+ years ago. I thought i would give this place a try. Alas, my journey continues. This place disappoints on multiple fronts. Let's start with the service. Usually at these "authentic " places, I overlook the poor service since the food more than makes up for it. In this case, a big NO. We ordered four different clay pot rice dishes. It seems as if the rice is cooked in a separate pot and then scooped into the pots that are served to you. The rice is decently seasoned and has a slight crunch randomly since it wasn't cooked on the pots. The toppings were the worse offense. Broccoli is not Chinese. Please save that for the takeout crowd. All the different topping seemed to be cooked separately as well and then placed onto the rice to serve. If you know how clay pot rice works, this is not right. The salted duck was just duck that has been marinated in salt and not the Cantonese salted duck I expected. The grilled eel was packaged unagi from Japanese menus. The pork ribs were not with a traditional black bean sauce but this weird red sauce. The flavors weren't awful. It is just not clay pot rice as advertised and it certainly is no where near authentic. read more

My personal favorite is the tofu pot and papaya soup. Our family literally fought for the tofu, so we decide to order 2 tofu pots next time. Waiters and waitresses are very kind and caring. The chicken casserole was pricy but it didn't include much pieces. Felt like there was more bones than meat. The black pepper udon was not that much better either - kinda bland. I came here to eat after going to beat spa for massage which is on the same block. My boyfriend and I were super hungry! We got the cucumber (cold dish) appetizer and a eel pot and a bowl or rice to share. The appetizer tasted weird, not what you'd expect from other restaurants, it was too sour. The eel pot was in a big pot but the portion was so much less than I expected to be inside. It's more for one person only. I was planning to order more but instead we left hungry and didn't order more after tasting the eel. The sauce wasn't infused with the eel, it felt separate and the pieces of eel were not meaty and instead very boney. Didn't think their other pots were going to be worth the price. I love stone pot rice and Mr. Bobo has such a large selection. When compared to HK, Mr. Bobo's selection is very small but this is NY so this is still awesome.
