My moving experience "sucked" because I hired Moving Sucks LLC. The packing portion seemed incredibly rushed, which I assume was because one of the crew members didn't show up. After they told me they had finished packing, I opened the bathroom door to discover they hadn't packed a single thing in there. They assured me they would get everything packed quickly, but unfortunately, they didn't pack everything (for example, my scale is still in there) and what was packed was packed sloppily (the tape was so tight around my shelving organizers that many broke). Overall, none of this was a dealbreaker for me, though. The day of the actual move, the crew called and told me they would be an hour and a half later than planned because of "traffic." I know DC traffic can be bad, but I definitely don't think it was backed up by an hour and a half. Also, leave earlier! No one in any other profession can be an hour and a half late to their jobs! My mother and I ended up taking 8+ loads over to the new place to speed up the process! Ultimately my biggest issue is the amount of items that were broken - my dresser FELL from the truck (which my father witnessed) and needs to be replaced, a lamp is broken so now I will get to buy a new set, and my Shark vacuum was broken where the head connects and needs to be replaced. I moved across the street so the drive didn't result in these items breaking, this was poor packing and carelessness. Once the crew moved my stuff in, they stacked incredibly heavy boxes (I couldn't even lift a single box off) on my already damaged dresser and it now sags in the middle. I have yet to hear back from this company, but hope they will make it right. read more

Ok, wow, this company is fantastic! The owner, Santiago, was so easy to work with. I also love that this is a local family owned business! I called this company with a last minute, and quite random moving opportunity -- I had been given an antique piano, but it needed to be moved that day (!!!); I know, insane. Santiago didn't bat an eye. We came up with a plan and he and his team met me at the pickup location later that day. They wrapped my piano like a new mother gingerly swaddling their newborn babe -- I was sooo impressed! They moved that piano well, and navigated some tricky stairs and corners on the drop-off end. Yes, moving does suck but this company made this part of the process fairly easy. They are very responsive and send reminders and follow ups for your upcoming move. The day before my move I planned to text them to make sure everything was still on but when I looked at my phone I already had an email and text reminder. The morning of my move they texted with an exact time of arrival. We did a walk through and they got to work and I was able to go back to work in another room. We had one hiccup and they were determined to figure out a solution - my couch couldn't fit through my apartment entry way but they decided to push and pull the couch over my balcony which was certainly a heavy lift. I'm so thankful that they were able to quickly get it all done in a few hours. read more

They were responsive from the beginning and provided an itemized fair quote. The men showed up on time and immediately started wrapping items. I was impressed with them, because at the new home I had them move a fridge and they made the impossible happen. It was a tight fit, but they were determined and figured out a way by removing multiple parts on the fridge to get it where it needed to be. Once all items were in the home, they put all the big items together correctly like beds and tables. I also have to provide a review to the lead mover as he was one of the hardest workers. He never stopped and just kept moving. Due to his efforts and leading the team, was why this move was so successful. We used MSM for a move from northern VA to nearby West Virginia. The crew was top notch, with energy, care, friendliness and flexibility, and an ability to solve puzzles like getting big things into tight spaces. The company charges based on the actual time it takes to get the move done, which I think keeps costs reasonable. They also had the ability to haul away some bulky items we ended up not needing, for a reasonable additional cost, but the convenience was well worth it. We had Moving Sucks Movers move us in January. They did such an amazing job that we used them again when we moved from our rental to our new home this month. They take great pride in their work, are very careful with your items, individually wrap all furniture, TVs, electronics, pictures, artwork, mirrors. I chose this moving company because it's better than the big players on the market, though smaller. The staff is polite, professional and patient. The company has insurance of a high quality and they provide their certificate of insurance in a timely manner. The assessment of the items to be moved is simple and based on mutual trust. They help remove wall mounted items to the best of their ability. Sometimes accidents can happen. A very minor one occurred during my move: a lamp shade was broken. The manager ordered a replacement with express overnight delivery. FedEx failed to deliver on time. We only got the replacement five days after. Each of the five days, the manager was following up at least twice and providing tracking updates, always very cordial. WOW!!! That's the best way to describe this company. We have made many military moves so needless to say we were a bit nervous about choosing a mover for our personal move. We have never had a military move where something major wasn't broken, ruined, or both. Santiago was extremely professional, personable, and knowledgeable about the moving process. We liked they are a small company. Santiago gave me a quote for our four bedroom 1800 square foot home that same evening. Were they the cheapest? No. Were they the most expensive? No. They were right in the middle of all our quotes. However, they don't have any hidden costs or fees. It is based on how many hours they will be loading and unloading. Period. What he quoted us is what we paid when the move was complete. The actual movers were super efficient, professional, and personable and took extreme care with all of our stuff. When all was said and done, nothing was broken or ruined.
