So after receiving a few quotes from a handful of businesses, I went with Potomac Moving due to the speed of their response, clarity in communication, pricing and overall warmth and professionalism. In our first phone call to walk though my needs, they were very assuring and accommodating, which is a such a relief in the midst of stress and coordination that comes with planning for a move. They were also always very responsive in the few times that I reached out between the time I paid the deposit and the actual move. A night or two before, I sent at email regarding wardrobe boxes, since I was debating whether or not I should buy and have a few delivered to me. The owner responded quickly, assuring me that wardrobe boxes were tried, true and if I wanted to buy any directly from them that I could. That ended up being a great call, because they were able to properly enforce the boxes so that even the boxes filled with my heaviest coats remained in tact. On the day of the move, the movers were communicative regarding their arrival time. They were also very nice and hard working. I had a few large furniture items that needed to be disassembled and they ended up being quite beasts to tackle. But they worked diligently to break them down. Once it came time to move things to my new place, that was a breeze. One gesture that I thought was just so classy, was the owner called in the middle of the move to check-in on how things were going - I really appreciated that. My project was immediately responded to and they were able to help me move two weeks later on their soonest available date. The three movers, Pat, Renaldo, and Kevin were incredible. Communication leading up to the move and theday of was great. They were able to move all my large furniture within 2 hours. Everything was wrapped carefully and efficiently. They were kind and thoughtful, helping me make adjustments to the furniture layout once we got to the destination. Their positivity through one of the hardest situations I've ever gone through was much-needed and made me feel confident in entering this next chapter. I even had a last minute change to the destination (originally everything was going into storage but I ended up finding an apartment just in time), and the professionalism and patience from the entire Bookstore team through this change was excellent. Pricing was reasonable yet again and came out to about $500 (excluding tip) for the truck fee and moving of 16 large items. Thank you Bookstore Movers for helping me when I needed it most!

We had a dedicated elevator, yet workers often brought items down only one or two at a time. I also saw team members on their phones or standing around in rooms and hallways instead of actively moving things. These delays added up quickly. The crew also misplaced parts of our bed frame, and the pieces had to be found before it could be reassembled. That alone added nearly an hour to the move. Because the move took much longer than expected, the final cost was significantly higher than the estimate we received. We were also charged based on an arrival time that was recorded as ten minutes earlier than when the crew actually arrived. The team was courteous, but given the inefficiency, added time, and higher final price, we would not use Bookstore Movers again. This is unfortunate, because we had been happy with them in previous moves.

After reading reviews here, reflecting on my own experience with A.M. a few weeks ago and considering my knowledge of moving and packing I have to give Available Movers a full 5+ stars! If you are shopping for moving companies and you have minimal moving experiences or even none at all. Take some time to educate yourself on the process first and so your expectations are planted correctly in the first place. Originally I got an $80 p/h estimate with a $125 service fee. Ultimately I was charged $85 p/h but only a $110 service fee. The difference is negligible and I did not care about the difference. I have to also add that my original estimate was for a weekend that had already passed and not the same as my move out date wound up being. I'm particular and as I've pointed out already have a lot of moving experience. What I don't have is limitless strength and a 26' box truck. I did all the packing and cleared out small stuff and boxes in the weeks before the move. Available Movers came in moved all my big heavy stuff, I wanted them specifically for no packing, no disassembly and no re assembly. The stairs were a burden and take tons of time away but even still they got me out and back in a place 2 miles away in a little less than 4 hours so I was more than happy to pay for the 4 hours and tip the guys! I would definitely call Available movers again and coordinate another one of my moves with them! Thanks guys!

During the moving process, without asking, they would pack 2 pillows into a box ($26.18), 2 fake plants ($72.36), 3 cheap Amazon canvases ($62.94), etc. I assumed this was free since cheaper companies in the past would just wrap things like this in blankets for us for free. This is the best response they could come up with: "Since the packing was completed without an opportunity to address these concerns with the crew at the time of service, we are unable to make any additional adjustments to those charges." How am I supposed to address concerns for charges that haven't been disclosed yet?

Upon arriving at the "Public Storage" facility at Seven Corners in Virginia, my daughter and this patient moving team were welcomed by a serious issue not previously disclosed. The elevator was out of service, and the storage unit was on the third floor. The gentleman could have requested a reschedule right then, but no. The BoxStar Super Stars jumped into action. They moved my daughters one-bedroom apartment out of the storage unit and into their truck in record time, including a very heavy sleeper sofa, down three flight of stairs in a narrow stairwell. The items were mainly consolidated into main areas, anticipating that it would make it easier for the moving crew to quickly pack and move the items to the trailer. They were here for over 9 hours, packed the truck half full vertically, but filled the 28 foot horizontally. This is something I would expect from college kids who have zero experience as you get charged every foot horizontally you take up in cross country moves. So now, not only are we out $2300 for these movers, we are out an extra 3k because they used twice the amount of space that was actually needed if they had done it correctly. Military and families and federal employees- go anywhere else. This was an absolute disaster.
