My favorite place in Vail. Eat here every time we come. The atmosphere is great, food is great and service is great. I've never had anything bad to eat here. Ate lunch here yesterday and tried something new. The turkey club. Oh my!!!! Awesome!!! read more

Really good food. Nice place with a nice ambiance. More of a family restaurant but we really liked it. Great burger and wine.

Rude service, won't be returning. I understand COVID makes things tough, but being short and rude doesn't do it for me.

Everything in Vail is stunning- I never had one bad meal. That being said, dinner at Mountain Standard was my favorite meal in my 3 day stay. I ordered a few appetizers because I couldn't decide on just one entree. I had the shrimp and grits (which I found to be full of flavor with small hints of spice) the pork belly, and a biscuit. The biscuit was TO DIE FOR. I could have eaten about 4 of them as my meal. They had just the right amount of prosciutto and jam to satisfy your sweet and salty craving but the texture of the biscuit is what completed the savory treat. I'm also so thankful that I was able to try it because I was told at first that they were out for the night- so thank you to the chef for allowing me to experience the best biscuit I've ever had in my life! It was busy and I was dining alone so I ate at the bar. It turns quickly as people await their tables. I went on a Wednesday night and there was a 20 minute wait around 8 PM. The staff was very friendly and the manager stopped to ask me how my meal was just before I'd left. I highly recommend Mountain Standard- it's one of Vail's finest. read more

We love this place and have been eating here since it opened. We wanted to sit on the patio but since it was full we went to the bar and instead of people watching we were attended to by Mike and the rest of the team at the bar. We had great service and the food just keeps getting better and better. The bruschetta was excellent with the savory and sweet flavors atop the crumbly corn bread and the burger, WOW!!! Maybe the best we have had in Vail to date! The heirloom tomato salad was perfectly prepared and served at the perfect temperature and the kale and cheese were oh so tasty and just right!!! After reading other reviews, I'm sorry we didn't at least take a look at the dessert menu. The place was packed and fun and the service was fabulous!!! We will be back as soon as possible for dessert and the Onion Rings!!! read more

Shrimp and Grits was absolutely divine. The local trout with sage gnocchi also was fresh and delicious. Try one of the biscuits. Even though they are small, they pack a lot of flavor and are a great small snack read more

Let me first say the the food is solid - not amazing, but solid (enough for me to give two stars). The service, however, is horrendous. We came in, and we're ignored by two hostesses while we stood for approximately 5 minutes before being acknowledged by the host (who took two calls in the time we stood there). Once seated, we were apparently judged as not worthy of better service, as the couple seated next to us were doted on by both our waiter and a few others. Throughout the meal, we witnessed a wait staffed that seemed to not give a damn about the majority of customers, unless they were older, and looked as though they may receive a better tip. After we finished out entrees, we were asked if we "wanted coffee or, like, something else?" To which I replied "sure, and I'll have a coffee." I never saw the dessert menu, but was still made to wait longer for my check. This is significant, as my wife and I have made it a tradition of buying a round of beers for the kitchen (an option that has been, at least previously, on the dessert menu as an option). Our waiter still received 20%, but he could have received 30% if he, or any of the other staff, had bothered to give a damn about their patrons. I am unsure of when this decline in service started, as we have gone to mountain standard sporadically over the past two years, and this marked a gap of a few months since our last dining experience with them. I am, however, embarrassed to have recommended this place to any of my friends who have stayed in Vail over the past few months, as I am mortified that they think that is the caliber of service deserving of a recommendation. I would recommend this restaurant only to those who want decent food and a terrible front of house experience. I will personally refrain from dining at or recommending this restaurant, or their sister restaurant, for the foreseeable future. If they make a rather significant front of house change, I would probably give it another chance, but great coal roasted olives can only do so much to persuade me. read more

Great dinner spot, the chef made me a special vegetable plate (oyster mushrooms and celery root purée was delicious) and accommodated an appetizer to be without meat for me. My boyfriend got the salmon and it was excellent. Decent service, little pricey. read more

Mountain Standard was very good bordering on excellent. The meat dishes there were incredible. I had the short ribs (could possibly have done with less shishito peppers) and my wife had the wagyu. both excellent. only two things kept this from being five star. one the dessert didn't match the quality of the dinner. it was good but not great. and our waitress was not attentive at all. the other wait staff for the other tables seemed on top of things so i think we just got stuck with their worst. regardless highly recommend and i'll definitely go back next time in vail. after you go wander around the corner to pepi's for some fun live music. read more

Fantastic food and service! The pimento cheese spread was a great starter. I had the trout and really enjoyed it. I will definitely return my next visit to Vail. read more

Best French onion soup ever. The staff is super great. I've eaten everything on the menu and it is all stellar.

Bone marrow and Prickly pear drink delicious!!! Everything else underwhelming. We were excited to dine here but nope Next time we will stick to our favorite, the Almresi! read more

Everything was flawless. Mountain standard has a relaxed non-pretentious vibe with amazing food and even better service. We sat at the bar both times we went and the bartenders are artists. Every drink they make is on point and their food knowledge was sharp. I asked the bartender to make me whatever drink he thinks if delicious but not sweet and he crafted a cocktail with gin that was out of this world. This place is a must try in Vail. read more

This place came highly recommended by both our hotel staff as well as some other locals. It lived up to our expectations! The menu appears to rotate seasonally, so our visit was on the 50th volume of the menu and was part of the Spring 2018 menu. We started off with the shrimp and grits, which was incredibly fresh and vibrant. A great spin on a southern classic. I had the Wagyu Skirt Steak with a red chimichurri. An excellent presentation with fried mushrooms and sautéed polenta. The wife had a seared salmon and the best brussel sprouts I've had in years. We finished it off with an perfectly sized banana bread pudding with toasted coconut ice cream. It wasn't too heavy and brought an already amazing meal to an exceptional close. Highly recommend!! read more

On a recent trip to Vail, Co I was a little lost in the food department. A friend suggested Mountain Standard as her favorite place to eat and we were pleasantly surprised. We got there a little late in the evening, but after putting our name in and waiting for a table for 2 for about 30 min, even with the entire place being busy, we got a table outside. The diverse menu provided small bites, hearty appetizers, salads and soups, and the entrees were exciting. Although a bit on the "spendy" side, we were both very happy with what we chose. The steak was original and well cooked, and the Loch Duart Salmon was flavorful and perfectly cooked. I would suggest this restaurant not just for the beautiful atmosphere, quality service, but also for the creative menu with a wide variety to choose from. Also the darn good food as well. read more

I asked the waitress for the vegan option as it is not on the menu and they went above and beyond what I could have imagined. She asked for food preferences and spice tolerance for the chef. The meal was absolutely amazing and would return and recommend 10000x again. Do not miss out on the place. read more

Mountain Standard - Vegan option. Chickpeas and cauliflower over a pea purée I believe with the perfect kick of spice. - New American Near Me - Vail, Colorado

Came in for apps and cocktails. Sat down with Logan who was absolutely fantastic. He had great knowledge of the drinks he made and they were great cocktails. He held great conversation and made us laugh. He gave us a list of things to do when we come back. Definitely stop in for a cocktail he will take care of you and make ya laugh! read more

This was one of our worst experiences in Vail. Our expectations were high based on numerous online articles. Walking in, the hostess was extremely rude and dismissive. Mind you, this place requires a $25 deposit per person and we had a party of 5. We were stuck in the corner of the bar despite many open tables and when we asked about moving we were told it was an hour and a half wait for one of those open tables. The waitress took our order and basically left us the rest of the night. She was flippant, supercilious, and it felt like we were bothering her to be there. Never brought a second drink order when it was as ordered mid dinner. Waygu steak was average. Striped bass was very fishy. At the end we were brought the wrong bill. Don't waste your time or money to receive terrible service and sub par food. There are many other deserving places in Vail! read more

Loved Mountain Standard. Sat outside and watched some rafters. The salads are excellent along with their onion rings. Can't really go wrong in this ski town in the Spring. read more

Just a great Restaurant. Food was amazing. D. Was an amazing host. Impeccable service. Overall experience was extraordinary.

Atmosphere is cool and food was upscale and tasty. Definitely some different flavors. For the price and portions, we wouldn't come back, especially with our kids. Our kids both order the cheese pizza, which was basically cheese and crackers. It was an extremely thin, approx 8" cracker crust flatbread with a minimal amount of cheese and sauce on top. My kids finished and then we had to go feed them dinner somewhere else. For a nine dollar pizza, I would assume my kids would get more food than that! I had the pork loin polenta and my DH had the monkfish curry... both were really delicious, and the pork was actually a decent size dish, but the curry was for someone with a pretty small appetite, which is definitely not my husband! read more

Mountain Standard sits in the very center of Vail Village, you cannot get a better location. Our wait person informed us that their restaurant is the only place in Vail that cooks all food over wood or charcoal. Our entree flavors bore that out. The food is inventive, their wine and drink service is top notch and our server was delightful. I want everyone to know this is a "must stop" when in Vail. read more

[Last visit in Jan 2020]. The wait was borderline unacceptable, but food was admittedly worth it.

We put our name in for a table of 6 adults & 2 children. After a 45 minute wait we checked in again and the hostess was extremely rude & uncaring. There were open tables that could accommodate us but she said that we had to wait for a specific table. Due to her rudeness and lake of caring we left and went to another restaurant where we were seated immediately. Do not go if you want to be treated nicely. read more

One of the best dinners I have had.... My wife and I are in Vail for a couple weeks, read of Mountain Standard on a couple spots, called seeking reservation; all full, but the fellow said that a party of 2 should not present problem getting seating. Sure enough at 6:00 pm, we were seated right away, very pleasant and helpful server, Lilly, helped with appetizer and wine selection; timing of attention was very good as far as I am concerned. Good advice on the dinner selection; pork shank, which was absolutely fabulous! Wife selected a rose' wine with her help which was tasty, dry and marvelous. Can't think of a thing that would improve. That said, the striped bass was not as delightful as my pork, good, just not spectacular. Thanks for a great evening! read more

Came here with friends. It has a fun, lively atmosphere and beyond amazing food. Top notch ingredients. Everything is fresh and perfectly prepared. I definitely recommend the rotisserie chicken. And don't miss dessert! If you don't have a reservation, you will have to wait. It's very popular. read more

Fantastic service both times this week! We were visiting for a work retreat and couldn't help checking this spot out. The wedge salad is superb. The hangar steak and sides were delicious. On another visit a handful of us had the salmon with brussel sprouts and sweet potatoes. That was by far the best! Many really loved the monkfish as well. Both visits we had dessert family style. The Apple tart, lemon and cardamom bread pudding were delicious. The smores option was a huge hit amongst the group. We would have liked to have seen either more by the glass wines or a small incentive to ordering a bottle, versus the response of 4 times the price of a glass. Not a big deal, just was a different approach and didn't really sound appealing to a diner. read more

We went here for our anniversary weekend and it had some great things and some mediocre things. First off the good: my wife ordered the trout and it was soo good. Also we got the apple tart for dessert and it was fantastic. Now the bad/mediocre: I order the hanger steak, it lacked flavor and came with a side of steak sauce which was not something id expect from a high caliber place. Overall it was bland and i dont recommend. Even our server said it was her least favorite item. I'd hope they fix this dish, cut the steak thinner so its not so tough, pair it with grits or potatoes, and a nice pesto or chimichurri. Next mediocre thing was our server, she was cranky and didn't make us feel welcomed. Overall we were disappointed. read more

For the two times I've been here have been amazing. This time around, food was not good and over priced. I ordered the rotisserie chicken salad and it has more bacon pieces than chicken. The others in my party didn't like their food either (rotisserie chicken, onion soup and pork shank). The quality and taste has definitely declined. Will not come back. read more

This place was lame. We walked in without a reservation because the menu looked good and there were a ton of people inside. We put it name in , we were told 45 min wait and we could wait at the bar, and we headed over. There was an open seat, we sat down and the bartender instantly told us sorry, we couldn't sit there, and made us feel really uncomfortable. It was awkward. We said "that's cool, can we just order a drink?" And he was clearly irritated and didn't want to serve us. After we walked away, we saw another couple walk up and sit down just like we did , but this time, they were greeted with a smile and a "what can I get you?" I really don't understand why, but this restaurant made my husband and I feel very unwelcome. Bougie as hell. read more

Used to be better. The menu seems a little abbreviated, fewer choices. There's a weird thing at the bottom of the menu that says, "a 3% surcharge will be added to each bill in effort to fairly compensate all of our dedicated team" I admit that I have no idea what that means, but in my business I always ensured that my employees were fairly compensated by fairly compensating them. The thing that really bugged me was a new dish (according to the waiter) called Gruyere Potato Puree. My wife asked if it was like mashed potatoes, the waiter incorrectly told her that is was more like sliced, roasted potatoes. When the Gruyere Potato thing arrived, the waiter apologized that he had incorrectly described them. They had the consistency of of wallpaper paste and tasted like Elmers Glue and cheddar cheese, something I shared with the waiter. He again apologized, but left them on the bill. Maybe they should raise the surcharge to 6%. On the plus side, the octopus appetizer was delicious, although there were only 4 very small slices of octopus in the black lentil sauce. The salmon was delivered medium rare, just as I ordered it and it was terrific. My wife had the trout and didn't care for the sauce. I thought it was....OK. read more

Wow - what a pleasant surprise! Great location right on the Creek. Great service. And most importantly, the food is outstanding. I had the cast iron salmon - really interesting and unusual. Perhaps best entree I have had at any restaurant in Vail. Wife had the roast chicken salad with preserved lemon. Sides of shishito peppers and mashed potatoes. And kid friendly to boot! (Forgot to mention - also very reasonable prices for Vail...) read more

Outstanding restaurant!! We came in for lunch after a ski day. We had the carpaccio for starters (defiantly recommend) the turkey club, seared tuna special, and hamburger. All were pleasing to the palate! This is the sister restaurant to Sweet Basil which I believe is equally amazing with abut of a different in menu. Both are worth trying while a visit to Vail. Enjoy! read more

What a TERRIBLE experience! We've eaten here several times previously and were satisfied with the quality of the food and service, and I've even hosted a business dinner here last fall. This time around though was a completely different experience - for the WORSE!! Server was sick and my wife's trout dish was grossly overcooked. Worst of all, she got VERY ill as soon as we got home from the restaurant and I'll leave out the details of how sick she got. Called the restaurant to tell them to check the fish for freshness, and got told by the manager that "no one else had complained". Was pretty surprised by the manager's attitude overall, as he offered no apology whatsoever and only a question as to what "I'd like for him to do". Told him to check on the fish and credit back the cost of just that dish. He promised nothing but a return call, which as you could probably guess already, never happened. Won't be going here ever again, as Vail has lots of great choices for nice restaurants with solid food, service and true mountain hospitality! read more

This has been my favorite place in Vail for a few years now. The menu is always changing, but constantly great. This was one of the best pork shanks I have had in a long time and their steak was comparable to Flame, the Four Seasons steakhouse. The chicken liver mouse and lingonberries was one of the best things I've eaten all year. I also appreciated their selection of craft beer was far more interesting than most any other restaurant or bar in town. read more

Absolutely outstanding experience- so nice that I came back twice during my 24 hours in Vail! Thank you to MICHAEL who was one of the best servers I have ever encountered at any restaurant in my life. He was so friendly and kind, and my friend and I could have talked to him the entire evening! Additionally, he took great care to ensure I could dine and drink safely. I have several severe food allergies, and few restaurants are able to accommodate me. This was anything but the case at Mountain Standard, where the manager and chef gave me a handful of options that were not even on the menu! The food and margarita were absolutely delicious! The entire experience was so wonderful that my friend and I came back for lunch the next day. Unfortunately, Michael wasn't working, but it was still great food! We are outside on the heated patio with a beautiful view of the creek. Overall, great food, good vibes, and absolutely EXCELLENT caution and care for customers with food allergies. Michael is the best! read more
