Stopped on our way passing through after a long road trip. We came in right before close with 3 stir-crazy kids, and while most places would send us on our way or be rude because we were holding them up from closing, April was not only welcoming but super helpful, patient, kind and went above and beyond. In all of this city, we have not yet found one of those greasy spoon diner type joints that is both clean and inviting with a full diner menu. It doesn't look like a giant chrome trailer, but it's a true diner experience otherwise, too bad there's no jukebox on the table. Good, honest food, served hot and Indiana friendly. Hey, it is a greasy spoon spot so don't expect anything more. A lot of locals visit this spot. I like this place. The food is solid and I can always come for my skillet and pancakes. Some of the customers can be a little sketchy but who am I to judge? I cannot comment on the dinner since we only come for breakfast. The menu is really big. Lots of dishes on there to chose from. Came here for breakfast and it took 10 minutes for someone to help us get a table and another 5 to be seated. Wasn't a great start but was willing to give it a shot still. Ordered the sirloin steak and eggs with hash brown and was eager to try it out. What came out was a slab of Chuck beef disguised as a steak. The hash browns were half frozen in the middle, the "steak" was practically rare and I almost couldn't stomach it. I had high hopes for the pancakes because they looked good, and they were. The memory of the bumpy parking lot where I had to turn around that almost took the underbody off of my car is still fresh, but a cup of Chicken Florentine healed that and many other small emotional wounds... Creamy without a hint of a clot. Smooth, perfect amount of salt. Fresh spinach that looks like it was only allowed to just wilt. Noodles at the perfect degree of firmness. The Blintzes with apples, just like the soup, contained nothing that I could identify that was not just made from scratch, including simmered cinnamon apple slices and cottage cheese filling and, of course, the crepes. The hard part of any cooking, especially commercially, is not to overdo the salty, the sweet and the obvious flavors. Mother's Table, you succeeded and got a loyal customer today. First time here. It was about 8am with a few other couples in the dining area. I ordered the Irish Skillet with Pancakes, the husband ordered the full order of biscuits and gravy with eggs, sausage links and french toast. They make their own syrup, which was the star of the meal. It was thinner than store-bought but amazing. My Irish skillet was topped with slices of cheese vs. shredded as I've had at other breakfast joints. Their breakfast potatoes were seasoned well and filling.Their menu is huge. I'd love to try their apple pancake or Dutch Baby next time. My advice: come hungry and order anything that will get you the syrup. read more

I have wanted to try this place for a little while since I remember browsing their menu and seeing the fresh apple pancake. I decided to order the Farmers omelette (with gravy on the side) with hash-browns & regular pancakes. I had them also put in a small apple pancake as a 'dessert' since it takes so long to make and I just wanted to try it. The omelette was okay and didn't seem to have a lot of flavor even with the gravy. The regular pancakes were pretty good, but had a lot of butter on them which I didn't like. The portions were huge so there was plenty for the price. The apple pancake was also okay, not as good as I was expecting it to be. It didn't have a lot of flavor which was a bit of a bummer since I love apples and cinnamon. It was huge though so between that and the omelette I felt like i have extra food for at least 2 days. Overall, the place was okay. I doubt I would ever come here again. The prices are low and the portions are huge, but the food just wasn't good enough for me. There was nothing that I could actually say that I want to eat again and nothing that I had I could say was bad. It was all very meh. I was really looking forward to trying this mom & pop type place for a while. Upon driving in, it looks really run down outside. Walking in isn't much different. Everything is SO outdated and old, with several repairs needed. I waited for a bit, wasn't sure if I should seat myself or not (there's no sign). I was finally told to sit anywhere. The menu is so huge, it's overwhelming (this is never a good sign because it means nothing is their speciality and many items won't be fresh - a tip from Food Network I've heard many times). I ordered the chicken salad plate that I had seen good looking pictures of. It came with a soup and although the only option was French Onion, I didn't mind because I love that soup and the gooey cheese on top. It came out, sadly, with no cheese! The broth was good but it was overall boring. Later I found a few pieces of shredded cheese at the bottom. It turns out that they were out of chicken salad so they brought me tuna salad instead. It wasn't fresh made, it smelled a bit funky, and was heavy on the relish. I scrapped it off and ate the croissant, which was great. The fruit didn't taste fresh and several of my grapes were molded. The cottage cheese was sour, which was sad because I love cottage cheese. The tomatoes also tasted old - yuck. My waitress never asked how my food was, despite being one of only 3 tables occupied. One table was a group that had finished and during my 45 minutes there, no one touched the table to clean it up (not appetizing to stare at). I was still hungry from the poor meal so I got a slice of carrot cake to go, hoping it would be good (it was!). Overall, I wouldn't come back. Once the food got there, the presentation looked decent. I took a bite and it completely changed my mind. I had the biscuit platter. The Hashbrowns legit had dirt in them.
