Eat here. No kidding. For an old diner that seems run down a bit, it is well cared for, clean and the food is very good. My husband loves the fried mush. I traveled to indianapolis with my family or see our cousin, he lived about 5 minutes from this place and it was cheap so we went to Mother' Table. There were about 7 of us so it took around 40ish minutes for the food to come, which isn't terrible. The waiter was fine, checked up on us a few times. I got the nutella banana crepes, I wasn't expecting something amazing but rather just a mediocre crepe. Instead these crepes were terrible, they tasted like the grit on an old pan and were a grey-green color. Despite I tried to eat them, the nutella tasted old but the bananas tasted fine. It just wasn't good. My friend ordered the pecan french toast, it was extremely dry to the point where she was pouring coffee creamer to make it somewhat moist. The syrup wasn't even viable because it tasted like water. Not one of our 7 people really enjoyed the food, even the kids. It just tasted wrong and it went enjoyable. I would not return. read more

I punched this place up after dropping my daughter off and took the wife out for breakfast, this is not the nicest area so I wasn't expecting a whole lot. Went inside place is old looking but everything is surprisingly clean, coffee was fresh and everything came out fast. I got the Portuguese omelet while the wife got the Greek, sides are hash browns pancakes fruit or toast, I also got an order of biscuits and gravy 50 cents difference between the whole and half (?) Everything was I have to say pretty decent, my fruit was fresh, omelet was cooked perfect, the Greek was better and the biscuits and gravy were from scratch. On the down side hash browns were not as crisp as I like, and the biscuits and gravy didn't have as much sausage as I would have liked to seen. Menu is stupid big, lots of food for the price, place was pretty steady on a Friday morning, service was fine, if I was in the neighborhood and wanted breakfast I would probably do this again. 3.5 stars. read more

Best strawberry crepes I've ever had! The strawberry filling was purrrrrfect - exactly the correct level of sweetness. Topped with both powdered sugar and whipped cream... I had my entree and dessert all in one serving. I also ordered a side of sausage links and they were good - not burnt or shriveled like little old man fingers! :-) The inside of the restaurant was clean but reminds me of an old diner from the 80's. This place has a huge menu. My first visit & thought was that it has to be hard to have all of these options availble hot & fresh, maybe it's going to be a box dinner or reheated can soup. Glad to report NO on that. I've eaten here many times & never had a bad dish. The soups are fantastic & need to be have never had better soups (especially from the same restaurant)Right off the bat of the first bite you will notice that the soups are made fresh. No over salty or metallic taste to be found. Pancake batter is great & the omlets are awesome. Other lunch items to mention that I've tried so far are the French Dip & the Rueben. I've worked in kitchens, so restaurants really have to earn a 1-star review from me. The service was not only slow, but inattentive. We talked to our server twice: when she brought our drinks, then later for our food orders. She also forgot a side that we ordered and didn't check in on us. We waited 45+ minutes for our food, after waiting 10-15 minutes just to order. Ridiculous for a brunch diner that was 40% full. And to top it all off, the food was bland. The tastiest thing was my buttered toast. I don't know what else to say, except I doubt you could convince me to eat here again. For a place with a 4-star average, it was a complete surprise how bad our experience was. read more

While this place doesn't look like much from the outside, the food will blow you away. I'll admit I was dubious when I arrived, but I decided to give it a chance, and boy was I rewarded. The pancakes are just crisp enough on the outside while remaining light and fluffy on the inside. Everything else was cooked to perfection and portion sizes were just right as well. My friend and I decided to try out a new restaurant where we have never been before. So we decided to give Mother's Table a try. As soon as we walked in the host said that we could sit where ever we'd like. As we sat down the waitress immediately took our drink order and gave us time to look over the menus with it being our first time. While looking through the menu and taking a look around the place, I realized that the restaurant had a major home feel to it. It sure did match the title of what it's called. We noticed there were a few TV's around the dining area and seen pictures hanging on the walls. I also could tell that the restaurant was family owned by all who worked there, so that helped make us more comfortable. I didn't have a chance to go into the bathroom, but while sitting in the booths, we noticed the seats were too far from the tables. Which made me have to sit at the edge of my booth to reach my lunch. It was a very clean atmosphere, and all of the tables seem orderly. The service was very good. As soon as we walked in, me and my friend were greeted with smiles and let us choose where ever we wanted to sit. Our waitress immediately took our drink orders. When we ended up ordering our meals the waitress was very patient with us and helped us. Now it did take a little bit of time to get our food out to us. A little longer than it should have been. Our waitress only checked on us once or twice and I noticed she never refilled our drinks at all. I didn't end up needing one but it's still nice to see that they are looking out for those little things without us asking. But our waitress did bring us extra napkins after bringing us our meals. My meal was pretty good. But I would look at this restaurant as a one-time visit. It did have that home feel to it, but then again the service could have been better and they could have connected with us more. I did enjoy the food. I chose to eat a breakfast dish. I had over medium eggs, toast, bacon and hash browns. It was very good and my food was very fresh. But overall, I would prefer me, friends and family to go somewhere else. read more

Four of us ventured to Mother's Table, and our feelings are definitely mixed. Two of my buddies ordered different cheeseburger variations, one ordered meatloaf, and I ordered the gyro. The cheeseburgers were excellent. Both of them were thick, had fresh toppings, were juicy and tasty. The fries were also done well, although the portions were small. Both of my compadres wanted chipotle mayo, but both of them had to ask for more because the tiny drizzle that was placed on the burger was not nearly enough. My friend that ordered the meatloaf said it was good, but I can't ever remember him saying he didn't like a meal. His review of food has resulted in me being burned before, so take his opinion with a grain of salt. The gyro had a decent pita, fresh onions, and good tzatziki sauce. The meat, however, was prepackaged strips that were frozen. Pretty much tasteless. Now to the service. Our waitress acted severely depressed, didn't know the menu when asked questions, was slower than a turtle, and was generally unpleasant. We arrived at 11:20 and didn't leave until 12:50. Most of that time was spent waiting for food, then waiting for the check. Will I ever go back? Yes and no. I will never eat in again, but I will probably order a burger to go. read more

A hidden gem on the west side of Indy. Everything is freshly made daily. The soups are not salty, breakfast is well done & attracts a large crowd for the church crowd on Sunday--there is a wait on Sundays for this family-style diner. The decor is dated, but don't let that detract from visiting. We generally visit for breakfast, so I can't speak for the lunch or dinner menu. read more

I wasn't going to write a review when I asked for French dressing and got watered down ranch instead but then I got me food. I ordered whole catfish. Menu said it came with a vegetable. No vegetable. The baked potato I got was way over cooked and the skin was rubbery. The fish? One piece was ok. The 2nd was less than half the size. If it was only the salad, I might would come back. As it is, I'll keep looking. Why two stars? The fish I had was tasty. It's a shame the 2nd one wasn't big enough to be a keeper if I had caught it. If you're looking for a variety of cultural food in one place, the menu has close to 100 different options, I can only imagine what the food prep looks like for a diner style restaurant. The restaurant itself did not seem very clean. Even for a diner I was surprised that my omelet was more of a scramble with American cheese and my coworkers scrambled eggs had egg shells in them. I discovered Mother's Table A couple of years ago thanks to a good Yelp review. The chef is a culinary school graduate. Don't let the outside scare you away. The building appears to be a farmer Arthur Treacher's fish and chips restaurant. Nonetheless, the food is amazing. I've had the Italian sausage frittata several times. It's always moist and flavorful, with crisp veggies included with the Italian sausage. Pancakes are fluffy and tasty, and the skillet dishes are generous. The menu is huge and this "dive" restaurant is one of the best in Indy. Do yourself a favor and visit. read more
