Stacks is a down-to-earth local restaurant "chain" (two locations) in the Indy area. It specializes in breakfast and does the basics very well. This location is just off Quaker Blvd. near the I-70 interchange and is quite convenient to the gaggle of airport hotels clustered around it. The building and the interior are reminiscent of Midwestern family-style restaurants. The facility is comfortable with ample seating, however, having both booths and tables. The breakfast menu features traditional Midwestern breakfast fare with pancakes, of course, as a cornerstone offering. We visited on a Friday morning and were seated right away. Our server, Amy, took care of us quickly and did a good job throughout our visit. My colleague went with the theme and got the big stack of six pancakes, too much for one sitting. He also got a side of fresh fruit, which was a nice offering. I went a little heavier and got the corned beef hash, a favorite of mine. Here, it comes with hash browns, which is a little unusual. I certainly appreciated this nuance. I also had some hash and potatoes left over to take away. We both thought our choices to be quite good. The coffee was not bad and more than adequate with food (not sure how it would be on its own, which is the ultimate test for coffee). Between the two of us with food, drink, tax and tip, we spent $42. By today's standards, that's not unreasonable. It was not a bad value considering we each had enough to take away for another meal. The service was mediocre, and the ambiance was slightly unpleasant. Of course, this was just my experience. If you decide to visit, give it a try and form your own opinion. If you're staying at one of the many nearby hotels, I would definitely recommend you skip the low quality, limited hotel breakfast and go to Stacks. They've got a ton of seating, and I got a booth right away. Everyone was very friendly and the service was fast. The restaurant is clean and the food was great, especially for the price. Upon entering and waiting to be seated, there are two white boards of specials to read. They were not crowded for lunch at noon on a Friday. The dining room was large and spacious. This a nice place to eat and the name doesn't do them justice in my opinion. Don't forget to like them on Facebook for 10% off. Free WiFi is available. I ordered the Stacks Club and with that comes a choice of soup or salad. I selected the soup which was Vegetable Beef today. The soup was outstanding! And it was a bowl of it, not a cup, so it really was enough of a lunch for me. But I also managed to eat a quarter of the sandwich which was a fairly large sandwich. The sandwich was quite tasty as well. Fries are included with sandwiches too. There were several other menu items I could try the next time. But I may not get past the soup section of the menu. I have grown to be a soup lover since the bread carbs are not there. This place had great soup today. read more

It's not the most warm and inviting place and that's really something important to awaken the senses for breakfast. My husband and I stopped here again and the food is still good. The restaurant is very clean along with bathrooms. Our waitress was very polite and courteous and gave us some suggestions. I went with the chicken quesadilla and my husband had build your own chicken sandwich. The quesadilla flavor was excellent one of the best I have ever had. I love their potatoe soup. I flew in Indianapolis and met my daughter and my sisters for breakfast. I ordered the Stack House Omelet with crispy hash browns and blueberry pancakes. The omelet was a very big portion and filled with meat and cheese and was delicious. I asked for crispy hash browns and they delivered. I asked for blueberry pancakes instead of plain buttermilk ones. They were delicious but I failed to read the menu fully and failed to notice they not only had blueberries in the batter as well as smothered in blueberry compote. I would have rather not had the compote but it was my mistake but they were tasty just the same! The coffee was ok, I prefer a stronger brew. The service was impeccable I totally forget her name now, but she was tall and skinny and curly hair I believe with brown eyes and she gave us the time we needed and even made sure we got something we liked!!! Very helpful! The food came out literally in like 10 minutes and it was all HOT n FRESH! I was so impressed! I myself had gotten the CFS and sausage and hashbrowns and pancakes that tasted like cake which are my favorite, I believe and my boyfriend had this French toast with Reese's pieces on top with whip cream and chocolate syrup! Both were delicious and I honestly cannot wait to go back and eat again because that's how good it was. Very nice place, very clean inside too. I ordered the angry breakfast burrito which has angry potatoes, scrambled eggs, chorizo, pepper jack cheese, onions and peppers. The potatoes, eggs, and chorizo are perfectly blended together so you get a bit of everything in each bite. I asked for salsa on the side because I intended on eating this with my hands but it's enormous! Had to use fork and knife. This burrito is full of flavor & spice. Not too hot/spicy, just right. Oh, did I mention the burrito came out in under 10 minutes? Super fast service and for only $10 I got a huge breakfast full of flavor. Stopped in today because Waffle House was carry out only (only place still doing that). I'm so glad I did. I was craving a good waffle and I found it! I ordered the sausgae links and bacon and the Belgium Waffle stuffed and covered in mixed berries. Holy cannoli! This was a whopper of a waffle. Pretty sure I'm going to need some insulin at some point today. It was fluffy, it had this sweet cream smothered over it and these delicious berries and sauce atop it with a dollop of whipped cream. Might be my new breakfast go-to!! We stopped in on a Thursday morning, kind of in a hurry so I was nervous they might take forever. Instead we ordered our food when we ordered drinks and everything came out super fast. Food was delicious and I love their huge plates. Hubby got chocolate chip pancakes and they came with a cute chocolatey design on top!! My hash browns were nice and crispy how I like them! Best of all our total was only $14. I'm confused by all the good reviews here. I'm not sure where to even start. I came in with a big group. I was visiting from Seattle so I recognize my expectations may have been high but still. My aunt said the coffee tasted like soap. So she added excess sugar and cream and eventually switched to tea. The food took a long time to come out. My mom ordered an egg white omelette and fruit. The banana was completely brown, and the omelette was swimming in oil or fruit juice couldn't tell. But the eggs were ice cold. When she told the waitress (who took forever to come back and check on us to even tell her it was cold) she snatched it up and said ok ill be right back. They MICROWAVED the food and brought it back. It was inedible. I was disgusted. All the plates were overcooked, over salted, over rated. Definitely do not recommend. read more

New name, but the same great breakfast place as before! Recently, the former Stacks Pancake House & Grill was purchased by the same owners as the next door Super 8 Hotel. From what I can tell, no changes were made to the staff or the interior of the place. Some of the menus still refer to the prior name, but new signs will be coming soon to announce the change of ownership to Star Pancake House & Grill. I recently went with my wife and another couple to brunch here. There was plenty of parking surrounding the restaurant and still room inside! There was a short wait as the hostess who seats new arrivals also takes the payments at the end of the meals. Before long, we were given our choice of booth or table. The restaurant has a wide assortment of offerings as both meals and ala carte items. My wife went with the Star Omelette which comes with hash browns. I chose the Eggs Benedict and also had the hash browns. The plates they serve on are huge, so there is plenty of room to mix and mash and sample someone else's food if they let you! We both enjoyed our meals and my wife needed a to go box for hers. Our friends even made special orders and the kitchen/waitress managed to do a great job on delivering what was requested. Nice to know that the food is made to order, not something that was sitting under a heat lamp. The coffee was fresh and kept coming throughout the meal too. If they could figure out a way to smooth out the slight delay at the front between checkouts and arrivals, then this place would be even better. Rev. #41 read more
