Uniquely impressive interior with full screen movie running (captioned) in this newly opened restaurant that kept the flavor of its former theatre. Our server Emily was cheerful and informative. A parking garage across the street served us well for dining at this restaurant and attending an event at Hendricks Live across the street. The shrimp cocktail appetizer featured fresh large shrimp with dollops of horseradish on the plate and a nice sauce. I enjoyed the steak frites entree, a generous portion of steak perfectly cooked, served with a delicious broccolini and tasty fries. My sister ordered the chicken marsala and noted that she would have liked more sauce, and the truffle potatoes were delicious. My brother said his huge pork chop was perfect, and my sister in-law recommended the sirloin steak. We had reservations and were seated at a high top table, which is not my preferred way to dine but the restaurant was full so we didn't ask to be moved. Eh, fell a bit short for me. The ambiance and vibes are great! Service was great as well!! The food is where it fell short for me. I drove an hour to visit this place and saw lots of good reviews. I started off with a lemon drop and a snack short rib eggroll. The lemon drop was watery and just did not hit like I would have hoped (I'm a lemon drop girly). They do use Titos as their well so that was good. The egg roll was dry- you definitely need to dip in the wasabi aioli to make it palatable. Next up were the buffalo chicken hush puppies. I like the idea here. The inside was moist and flavorful and the outside was kind of dry and drizzled with what I think was ranch. They were ok. I have a Ceaser salad add chicken and "fried" Brussels sprouts. The salad was suppose to come the onions , there were none so the waitress brought me some. The salad was mid at best and the chicken was dry and unflavored. I asked for some spicy ranch and that saved the salad! The Brussels sprouts were pretty good. My friend had the potato soup and said it was very watery (not creamy at all). I enjoyed the live music and overall vibe but good was average. Parking is an issue as well. Well designed restaurant that did a great job of leaning into being a historic theater. I thought it was cool how they had movies playing (with subtitles) on in the background. Very cool ambience! Staff were super friendly but it seemed understaffed for the lunch hour. Food was okay- could probably use some more spices / seasoning. This review encompasses two visits within a recent enough period to each other for ease of writing as well as comprehensiveness. Our first visit was to see Kevin Farley's comedy standup show. Apparently it was their first in a long time that they had done comedy shows at The Prewitt and I hope they bring them back for good! Both Kevin and the opener Chris (local to Indy) were pretty funny and made sure to not get too crass. At some point before the show, we were greeted by the manager of The Prewitt so it's nice to have that kind of hospitality! We sat pretty close to the front in some very cozy armchairs and got some appetizers to munch on while we waited. I got a Mac and cheese, my partner got some fries, and we shared the ribeye egg rolls. All the food was delicious, and the egg rolls are just unmatched and I have yet to find something like it elsewhere. I got the tropical style mocktail this visit, and then a cup of mint tea for the end of the evening. Our server (Megan?) was very nice and pretty attentive. Our other visit was for our late Valentine's Day. We also got the ribeye egg rolls to start. I got the Sweet One and my partner got the Sour One (both mocktails). I remember both being good, but I liked my Sweet One more! For dinner I got a penne pasta with chicken Alfredo. That was really really good and made for nice leftovers. For dessert, we got this kind of peanut butter and chocolate pudding type dessert. I forgot the name already, don't come for meeee. Overall, The Prewitt has a really cozy yet elevated atmosphere, having a rooftop dining option, a tucked-away little bar, and a variety of seating options between dining tables and lounging tables with armchairs. The Prewitt was built inside an old movie theater so they keep some of those charms like the glittering front marquee and the movie screen, where they still have movie nights and other stuff going on. Dress code wise, this feels like a place where you fit whether you're dressed up or down for the evening. This is definitely a spot for an elevated date night on the Westside of the city! read more

We dined at The Prewitt for the first time and, unfortunately, the experience fell short. I arrived a bit early for our reservation and asked about the restrooms. The hostess noticed a line for the downstairs restrooms and directed me upstairs instead. The upstairs area had a nice vibe, and the igloos were still set up outside, which was a pleasant touch. However, the upstairs restroom was not acceptable, there was visible urine on and around the toilet seat, as well as in the toilet itself. I went back downstairs to inform the hostess. While waiting for one of the three downstairs restrooms, I learned that two were locked and the remaining one was experiencing issues. Although the issues were eventually resolved, the line continued to grow. To make matters worse, customers were repeatedly trying to open the door without knocking. Ultimately, the restroom situation put such a damper on my initial impression that I ended up walking across the street to use the coffee shop's restroom. For one of the only upscale restaurants in Plainfield, restroom cleanliness and accessibility should be a priority. After a short wait, we were seated. Our waitress, Emily, was fantastic, very knowledgeable about the menu and helpful with recommendations. We ordered the chicken alfredo & the short rib bolognese. Both dishes were served at room temperature, and we also both agreed the flavors were lacking. Overall, the experience didn't quite live up to expectations, and I'm in no rush to return. read more

Food and Drink: Tried the Prewitt for the first time! The Short Rib Bolognese had great flavor, but I wish it had more sauce and was spicier. With the noodles, I was expecting more a "thai flair" but I would get it again. The chicken alfredo lacked flavor in my opinion. I've personally had better italian street food with noodles and alfredo. LOVED "the sour one" mocktail. Customer Service: Emily did an awesome job with recommendations and being attentive to the table. Very outgoing and hospitable, despite it being near closing hour. Ambiance: I loved the vibe of a "brick movie theater". There was a huge movie screen with tv playing and the whole restaurant could enjoy. The Prewitt is a bit of a drive, but it's definitely worth the trip. While I didn't eat here myself, every dish that came out of the kitchen looked and smelled amazing. In fact, if I glanced away for just a moment, my neighbor's plate would be empty when I looked back. Clearly, the food is a hit! After a stressful workday, I stopped in for happy hour before running a few errands. What I expected to be a quick 45-minute visit turned into a few hours of great company. The entire bar staff, Kayleigh, Savannah, and Emily, were fantastic, answering questions and keeping the atmosphere friendly and upbeat. I tried the s'mores old-fashioned, and it did not disappoint. You had me at Wagyu Corn Dogs, Prewitt! These were fantastic. I wasn't sure what it expect (how could I know). It's a wagyu sausage wrapped in corn batter and fried. Amazing enough, but that house made ketchup and pickled mustard seed really made these sing! The Fried Brussels were very good. I was hoping for something sweeter (like the Brussels Sprouts with Bacon Jam back home at The FourNine). Those are more of an appetizer though. These were a solid side. And then the Truffle Mash! Get out of here! That was fantastic! The food was great but the service was even better. Patrick was extremely personable and made solid suggestions. We've visited twice now in the last 4 months, both on special occasions which were both mentioned when making the reservations. The first time, the occasion was acknowledged, the 2nd time it was not. Our first visit was amazing, the staff was attentive and even invited us to stay after our meal to enjoy the film they were showing that night (which they usually charge for). It's possible that the service was a bit more lackluster on our second visit due to it being during Devour week and much busier. (For the record we did not order off the Devour menu and ran up quite the tab.) The food is always great, I'll give them that. However there were some low points. We ordered the charcuterie and the menu does not specify what meats are included, only that they are Smoking Goose which is perfectly fine. I assumed that this was because it rotates and changes often so it wouldn't be printed on the menu and we would be told what the meats were that night when the charcuterie came to the table but it was delivered and arrived with zero comment. Mystery meat! Yay. Beer was served without a glass (or even the offer of one), and they've changed the parfait desserts to much smaller ones with a slightly unpleasant meringue layer and a "crust" layer that only succeeds in getting crumbs all over the table and everything on it. This might sound very negative but really, I'm just being nitpicky. The venue is beautiful and as I said the food is always great. Whoever they have in the kitchen knows how to cook a piece of meat to perfect temp, and the cocktails are lovely. I'm not even a fan of old fashioneds but the 121 (smoked) is fantastic. There's a reason we go out of our way to leave Indy proper with it's fair share of wonderful restaurants to come here. read more

We were literally the only ones there on my Husband's bday. I rented an Igloo and order Nachos and the Corn dogs as starters. I had the Royale Burger and my husband had the Mushroom fettuccine? First time visiting, comedy night, Seats are not comfortable unless you're having dinner only. We originally got sat in comfy chairs in the front but then got moved to eat glad we did because we left early. The brisket nachos were delicious but needed jalapeño and smaller onion pieces and more toppings. The coppa cobano flatbread had a big piece of mozzarella in the middle, wasn't needed and should not be cut and put on top of each other as the slices get mushy, but it was good. Skip the cheese. The royale with cheese added egg was yummy too. The one twenty one old fashion was different definitely taste the root beer but probably would not get again. The beers are a great price . Growing up in Hendricks County, there was a bit of nostalgia from visiting the old Village Theater. It's really neat how they keep the ambiance of the theater. Mission Impossible (one of my faves and pretty sure I saw this in theaters here 30 years ago) was playing during our dinner. Overall the feel here is unlike many other restaurants on the west side. Short Rib Nachos were great! Very tender and I actually did that as my meal with a side salad. My wife did the pork chop, which she said was alright but she loved the sides. Shout out to Joe! We always come back every couple of months in hopes the good reviews we read are improvements being made - but rather we run into the same issues everytime we attend ! The food is almost always cold or very mildly warm, my ribeye was somehow cooked correctly on one half and completely well done on the other with same thickness - & for $52 ive had a much better cut of meat than i had last night . I took a couple days before posting this review to be sure I felt this way. The front of house and music were great! I did not try any of the drinks. The food left a lot to be desired. I ordered a slider as the appetizer and the swordfish as the entree. The food took about 55 minutes, and the swordfish came before the slider. No problem, cancelled the slider. The swordfish lacked flavor, but it was very warm. The broccolini were raw and hard to cut with the knife, which confused me. The potatoes were good! The carrot purée was cold, and there was a large chunk of raw carrot at the bottom. The entree was $33, so I was confused by the raw and unfinished components. This was our first time to The Pruitt and it will definitely not be my last! We were greeted upon entering. We had a 4:30 PM reservation for New Year's Eve. There was no one in the restaurant yet...we were checked in and told they would be right with us. 10 minutes later we were seated. I'm not sure if this was due to us having a 4:30 reservation, but it was a little awkward. The ambience is delightful. A little swanky and definitely rustic with a twist of modern. From the exposed brick walls with slathered cement to the velvety chairs to sit at and enjoy a drink; all the while catching the flick on the screen. Note: the audio is not on for whatever flick is playing. (There is music playing, however.) I can see meeting up with some friends and enjoying the sitting area. I saved the best for last - the food! Kisses to the chef as everything was exceptionally tasty! From the side salad with chickpea croutons to the braised ribs with Asian noodles. Oh, and the homemade blueberry ice cream with limoncello cake was very delicious. For $12 it was a very small portion. Though this place is pricey, the food is exceptionally good. The ambience is different than your typical restaurant vibe. With the big screen playing and the dimmed lights just gives you an upscale feel. For evenings on the weekend, I would recommend making reservations. One more thing I forgot to mention they change their menu by the season. I really like that idea as well. There were parts of the building that did reflect the old ambiance of the theater making this a unique experience. I also noticed their website has several fun events such as weekly trivia and a movie showing! Such a great concept. Our server was friendly and attentive. Arriving at 5:30 on a Saturday evening there were only a few other people. I ordered the Short Rib Bowl and it was good. For this price point I did expect a little more in the way of taste. The website says they provide both casual and upscale dining. It seemed like it was more casual than what I was expecting, but with an upscale price point. Growing up in the area and many fond memories going to the movies at the Village Theatre, eating here was going to be a trip down memory lane. The interior was cozy but a bit dark. They close at 3:00pm on Sundays and have an abbreviated menu of just brunch. We get there by 01:30pm and with only one server and about 4 tables to attend to, I understand the weak service but, closing the kitchen an hour before the restaurant closed, unforgivable. The food was underwhelming and pricey for the size. 2 sliders and a waffle hash brown with just water to drink coming to just under $30, wow. The sliders were tasty but the waffle hash browns were cold and tasteless. Next time I'm in town, I may revisit on a day other than Sunday but it will be far down the list of dining possibilities. read more

We went in the middle of the week for dinner. There were less than 10 people in the entire restaurant. In a busy night, I'm sure this place is electric. In addition, it's great to pair with a Hendricks Live! event. Team was clearly well trained. We were able to watch a movie with dinner too, which I absolutely love. The only other place I've done this is Flix Brewhouse, and Flix has really gone downhill in the past few years (for a similar price honestly). Love it. Great add to Plainfield! read more

We tried the Prewitt for the first time over the weekend with a large group of friends. It was a nice experience in such a historic place and they've really leaned into the movie theatre themed while keeping it upscale classy. With such a large group, we were able to try several dishes on their menu and the top recommended ones are the wagyu corndogs, pork belly app, bolognese pasta, filet, and their sweet donuts for dessert. The server was so nice and did a great job of highlighting the specials and recommending drink pairings with each dish. We checked out their bar before the meal for a cocktail and it was a neat spot to have a cocktail or drink before tour meal. We had 12 total in our group and they don't really have the capacity to do one long table without reserving their private dining space (which comes with a fee and a food/bev minimum). We were broken up into three groups and sat together but it was still spread out and with the lovely live music, hard to hear one another talk. My husband just went back for a work dinner on Tuesday and they were seated upstairs in a private dining area so much easier to hear one another. It's best to keep your party to four or less in the main dining room. The only ding is the price. We had an enjoyable evening and budgeted for the meal but it's a hefty price tag if you each get a cocktail, shared app, two entrees, and a dessert. We had the best dinner this evening! We started with the short rib egg rolls which were very very good. Then we had the spring salad which was super light and fresh. We also shared the wings (honey sriracha & pbr barbecue with spicy ranch) and they were excellent. We also had the fried Brussels sprouts which were good. They were fried and salted and peppered, and I probably would have liked some kind of sauce with them, but they were very good as-is. Then we had the burger with fries and those were also delicious. Great flavor on the burger, and the fries were super crispy. Everything was soo good. We wanted to try a dessert but were just too stuffed. Next time, we will save room! We were a party of 8 seated upstairs. The upstairs seems to be the nicest part of the restaurant. The lighting on the stairs seriously needs to be addressed. At the time of starting our meal we were the only guest in this area. And our server was doing a great job. We started off with meat and cheese tray. It was a good selection of items and we all got to try something. We got a mixed bag of Entrees. Swordfish, Chicken , Pasta , Chicken Wings. Everything but the Wings came out at close to the same time. The Wings took a really long time. Most of us were more than half done before those came out. Desserts were Sour Patch Pie, FraGras Biscuits, and Chocolate something ( basically pudding in a jar ). All were really good. The FraGras Biscuit although good could have been any kind of biscuit with cinnamon and apple butter and you really couldn't tell the difference. Once the upstairs got full, service was slower. Our server was the only server and the bartender up there. I don't know that any of us would be back. For the price point it really didn't wow any of us. I rate this as very pretentious fare. The menu stated "Substitutions politely declined" or something like that. They will take allergies seriously. So props for that. read more

We had an excellent dinner at The Prewitt! We had a reservation on a Tuesday night and were seated early. They really weren't busy at all. The service was excellent. The atmosphere was neat. We loved that there was a classic film playing throughout the course of our meal. I had the El Diablo cocktail, which was very good! Definitely had a kick of spice as expected. He had two types of beer and our server stayed on top of our drinks. We started with the crispy pork belly, which was delicious. He had the beef short rib and I had the pork porterhouse. I actually thing the appetizers were my favorite part of the meal. The entree was just okay for me; I got the steak tips. It was definitely chewy and I didn't eat all of it. They did sub the mash potatoes for French fries for me. The fries were actually pretty good. They did have a great cocktail menu and a pretty decent whiskey selection. One thing to note about their menu is it does say they decline substitutions. That is definitely understandable but not always the most welcoming when you have an allergy. I do have a dairy allergy which was definitely accommodated but I was definitely made to feel like it was a burden. They didn't have any dairy-free desserts unfortunately but what they did have for desserts looks really good. We will definitely be back. read more
