This is a review for my experience at the drag brunch where I had an absolute BLAST! I've been to canon ball lounge but I had never tried the Hulman. This time I was able to enjoy both the drag show and their food, drink and service and I am sure I'll return for a regular dine-in! It was very clean inside with the sophisticated vibe. Staff were all so friendly and professional. Despite the show going on, we got attended closely and felt taken care of. On this day I chose a brunch casserole which had chicken and avocado. It was so great, I wish I could have had more of that. I want to come back for the drag brunch again (every 4th Sunday of the month) but I also want to come back here for a date night. read more

Last night I got the opportunity to try out the new summer menu! It was fantastic! First let me tell you about the staff! Our waitress, Allie was amazing! Allie took the time to walk us through the menu and chat about the restaurants history. Then Chef Danny came out to talk about the food and out thoughts. He really seemed to care about our opinions, which was refreshing to have. Now on to the meal! Between the two of us we tried four different drinks! All of which were delightful. We tried some different appetizers. If you are a peach person I definitely recommend the peach caprese! The scallops were also delicious. For my meal I had the filet with truffle mashed potatoes with blackberry port reduction which hit the spot for me. Overall, I'm excited to get back and try the rest of their summer menu. They will be starting new menus each season. They also host a lot of events like a tequila mixology class (it is sold out already) but keep an eye out! My friend and I made a very tasty dinner out of several small plates, plus cocktails served with fresh flower garnishes to wash it all down. The decor here is classy with clever hints at Indy's racing heritage, great for a business dinner or girls night out -- especially if you tack on a pre- or post-meal drink at the Cannonball Lounge/rooftop bar. Which you TOTALLY should. What a great hidden gem in downtown Indy with indoor/outdoor seating and spectacular views. Between the two of us, we shared the arancini, the Brussels and burrata, the Morocca-spiced meatballs and the wild boar empanadas. All delicious. I loved the sauce and the mint leaves on the meatballs, my personal fave. The large plates were tempting, too, especially the short rib pasta, but we were too full to try one. I actually can not say enough about my experience here. So let's talk about the menu, it is not very big, so know that you are going here to get delicious food from a more condensed menu. I did have a fancied up version of a tenderloin and it was chefs kiss. The ambiance is very fun and sexy. I was able to snag a reservation at The Hulman during Devour Indy for my birthday dinner and it was a fantastic experience! Located on the ground floor of Hotel Indy, The Hulman has an art deco aesthetic that pays homage to the city yet stays updated with 21st century minimalism. It feels like a treat to be there and the service was great. Onto the important things: the food and drinks. I had the Millionaire cocktail,named after Madame CJ Walker, and it was fantastic--I also noticed at least 5 other people with it so I'd say it's one of the most popular drinks. Since it was Devour, we were able to have a sampling of the food menu and it was so good. The French onion soup was a highlight and perfect for a cold, snowy night. For a second course, we tried the oysters and brussel sprouts + burrata, which were both tasty. I had the laughing bird pasta with shrimp and squid ink, and my boyfriend had the porkloin. We dined at The Hulman for a celebratory lunch. We chose it because they were able to accommodate an 8 person reservation right around lunch time. It is located inside Hotel Indy, which we were unaware of when we made the reservation. There is a decent amount of metered street parking within walking distance. The inside is pretty posh, and I was impressed with the ambience. The menu is selective, with some fancier items (see duck sausage sandwich). I opted to try the 1/2 soup 1/2 sandwich. The soup of the day was tomato bisque and I paired it with the short rib sandwich. The soup was absolutely delicious and the presentation was up to par. However, I wish they topped it off with crackers or croutons to give it a bit of a crunch. The short rib sandwich was pretty tasty as well and the combination of the two was the perfect amount of food. read more

Decor is 5 stars, Food was 4 stars (good value) but service deserves 0 so I'll call 3 it stars. Decor is amazing, retains an Art Deco feel of the 50s. The light over the island bar is a massive orb that flows well with the beautiful concrete ceilings. The furniture in on point. Come here for the architecture alone, it's dope. Don't come here for the service. It's slow and they don't like clearing tables (biased because I bussed tables in my youth). On a Saturday night, drinks took 30 minutes & came after appetizers (which also took a while). No plates were cleared until the very end of the meal & the tables aren't very big. Food was 4 stars. The oysters were overpowered by a sweet (Asian) glaze but I enjoyed them and the charcoals were a cool presentation. Good value at $20 per 6. The rice balls were decent albeit small and tasted almost Trader Joe's from an air fryer, order multiple (each person will want 2). I love pickles so I got pickled vegetables while my girlfriend had the Mousse, these hit the spot. Everything turned out decent, albeit the cheese in my girlfriend's short rib was still cold. Oh yes I would come here again. So much better than expected. As most folks, I am a bit suspicious of restaurants attached to hotels as they are mostly meh as far as food is concerned. This spot though, does not disappoint. I entered from the Washington Street exit and I am not sure which part is the Cannonball and where the Hulman starts, I really don't care either, but the host(ess) stand is towards the middle of the back wall. The nicest hosting staff I have encountered in quite a while. That said, the interior is stunning, modern with flair. while the couches and armchairs with the roll backs are visually pleasing, I hate to say that they are NOT back pleasing. So if you have back issues, ask for another type of seat, as there are multiple styles available. One of my guests ordered the olive snack and we were in awe. First off, that is quite a large serving for that price. The olives are served warm and have a wonderful marinate. A two thumbs up from me. Delicious. Another guest opted for the bisque and this was also very well received by all. She was generous enough to let all of us have a taste. And yes, I approve of this dish. Personally I indulged in the short rib pasta and was blown away. Home made pasta, a generous amount of meat which melts in your mouth, creamy cheese to blend in with the rest of the dish and the whole thing topped with shaved crunchy brussels...OMG, I mean crunchy like a potato chip brussels, giving the whole dish an added level of consistency. The flavor and overall composition of this dish were one of the best I have had in a very long time. I washed it all down with the 'World Record' cocktail which is mighty tasty and packs a punch. I believe part of it goes to cycling, which makes you feel good about drinking for a good cause. My guests also enjoyed the burger. They chose salad instead of fries and raved about the salad, but also deemed the burger as really good. Another had the salmon dish, which was perfectly cooked, but a bit bland. However; the accompanying dill sauce made up for it. We also tried the Earl Grey Creme Brule, which was still luke warm. It probably would have tasted better had it been chilled. Great food! Made reservations for 4 for Sunday brunch via Open Table. We were able to find street parking which was great but I think they have a small lot you can park in too. When we arrived there weren't that many people there and it was pretty quiet but there was a live band setting up which was a surprise treat! The menu is limited but the items on the menu all seemed quite interesting. I ordered the duck sausage sandwich which was really good. Another person in my party ordered the Hulman Burger and he said it was one of the best burgers he has ever had. I also ordered a Irish coffee which was just ok. I had the loveliest solo lunch here recently while working remotely and taking work calls. I kicked things off with a strong coffee and slowly made my way into lunch. I had the half sandwich and half salad order ($12) with a short rib melt and mixed greens salad). Ayayaya let me tell you about that short rib. It was like a pot roast piled into a sammie - so juicy and delicious. You're in for a treat. My service throughout the visit was very attentive and friendly. The space is beautifully decorated and you can't take your eyes off the wrap around bar topped with the largest pendant globe light you've ever seen. From time to time they also have live music in the evenings. It's hard to beat their location directly across the street from the Cultural Trail and only a few blocks away from Monument Circle. I rarely have a hard time finding street parking surrounding the building. It also doesn't hurt that the Cannonball Lounge rooftop bar is located a few floors up. Rarely do we dine in hotel restaurants but the reviews along with the fact that it was the Memorial Day Monday night after the Indy race and most places were closed, we gave it a shot. What a pleasant surprise. One great bite after another with delicious cocktails along the way. The grilled oysters were a great start and definitely as good as advertised. Empanadas we're crispy and boarishly good. Enjoyed a couple special apps, including honey gochujang wings from the patio menu that was stunning. I wanted so badly to love The Hulman, I really did. But it just fell short. The restaurant itself is gorgeous and very well appointed. My husband and I were here on a Saturday evening at 7pm and only a handful of tables were occupied. As beautifully decorated as The Hulman is, the atmosphere, or the feel in the restaurant, was pretty stale. Not much energy at all. We ordered Black Truffle Arancini - I love arancini! But this was so-so. Three arancini were served (for $15) and on top of mayonnaise, which my husband hates. So that didn't start the evening out well. We also ordered the Gluten and Dairy (bread and butter) which was okay, nothing spectacular. My husband was really looking forward to the Alaskan King Crab Bisque and the Spring Pea Agnolotti. The restaurant was out of both. Instead, he ordered the Halibut and I ordered the Shortrib Spacatelli. My husband was unenthusiastic about his halibut dish, mentioning that it tasted quite bland. My Shortrib Spacatelli was fine: it tasted good. However, it didn't wow me by any means. My favorite part was probably the thinly shaved Brussel Sprouts on the top. I truly don't like giving less than 4 stars for a restaurant, but our personal experience wasn't great and would have preferred another restaurant downtown during our stay. read more

Surprisingly not a bad place for breakfast! I usually have an eyebrow raised when it comes to eating at restaurants attached to hotels but this one did NOT disappoint! I did find out that even though they are apart of the Marriott chain they are locally owned and the owners come in often; you can tell. The quality of food was so surprisingly I was truly shocked it was connected to the hotel. I did wish the menu had more food options but the ones available were decent. I will say the bar menu was decent and full of plenty of choices. I had tequila based drink which had pineapple and Serrano pepper but honestly the sweet spicy kick I was expecting was not there. Mi Amor had a mezcal based drink and man it HIT! The drink was potent with a Smokey flavor I've come to love from mezcal. For food I had the veggie omelet and the only thing missing was more cheese. Let me first say, the food and the décor of this restaurant is not what you think of when you hear "hotel restaurant" although it's located in a pretty cool hotel. The hotel that just opened late October 2021 has a mid-centaury décor and is themed "All Things Indy", including giving a nod to Indianapolis celebrities and its history. The restaurant is named after Tony Hulman (who bought the Indianapolis Speedway in 1945 and coined the starting command "Gentlemen, start your engines!") and the affiliated rooftop bar, The Cannonball Lounge (winner of the 1909 Indianapolis first motorized race, Cannon Ball Baker) has a beautiful view of downtown Indy from their open-air bar. I would recommend if you have the time, make a night of it by going to both, either cocktails before dinner or after dinner dinks. My wife and I, our adult daughter, her two young sons, my son and his fiancé all decided to go to The Hulman a couple of weeks after it opened after hearing all the hype in the local news and social media. I mention all the participants to show the scope of the menu that can satisfy many tastes and preferences. No One was disappointed. The table decided to start with the Grilled Oysters, Gluten & Dairy, and the meat and cheese Charcuterie Board for appetizes. It may seem odd to order bread and butter but this is locally baked artisan bread and creamy butter, well worth the price. The charcuterie board had a very nice variety of delicious cured meats and cheeses. But I left the best for last. The grilled oysters were amazing. Even family members who never tried oysters or who had tried oysters and didn't like them (my grandson) loved these. A definite must have. After reviewing the menu, I decided to go with a verity of small plates; the Roasted Beet Carpaccio, the Moroccan Spiced Meatballs, and the Steak Tartare. All were outstanding. My wife had the King Salmon, my daughter had the Autumn Squash Mezzaluna (her new favorite dish), the grandkids got the flat iron steak and the Hulman burger (leftovers went home to dad) and my son split the Amish chicken with his fiancé. All were beautifully presented and really delicious. Everyone were very complimentary of the food throughout the meal. Because of the kids, we couldn't make it to the Cannon Ball lounge (we went up to take a peek) but my wife and I are planning to return this week and do both. My friend and I had a great experience at The Hulman last night. We were honestly a little concerned when we arrived to find that the restaurant was empty, but for one table. But our fears were quickly put to rest as we met our server, Franklin. He was efficient and knowledgeable, incredibly kind, and really on his game last night. And as the night went on, the bar and restaurant began to fill. We started with cocktails and a couple of starters. We really enjoyed the plentiful "Gluten & Dairy" (bread and butter) basket full of locally baked breads and amazing local butter, and the pickled vegetables. The drinks were great. I ordered the Shortrib Spaccatelli. It was amazing. A braised shortrib ragu tossed with spaccatelli pasta, and topped with crispy shaved Brussels sprouts and creamy ricotta. I could have eaten it all night. My friend ordered the Autumn Squash Mezzaluna, and it was equally as impressive. Whoever designed the space deserves raise. The furniture and decor are hip and trendy, and comfortable and cozy. I'd love to take the furniture home with me. We wandered into the lobby of the hotel to check it out and really enjoyed the nods to local history sprinkled throughout. It's a really cool space. My only suggestion would be to tone down the "signature scent" of the hotel in the restaurant area. The scent, though not a bad smell, was a little overpowering in places. Not unlike walking past Abercrombie in the mall and getting a huge whiff of cologne. It was a little off putting in the restaurant. Overall, we were really impressed with The Hulman and Hotel Indy. I went the week after they opened, and immediately knew I needed to go back for my 30th Birthday. The staff is so helpful describing the dishes and making recommendations, and Executive Chef Patrick Russ is a true star. I mean, look at the incredible cake they made for my birthday! Miller's Amish Chicken--This beautiful dish has so many delicious textures and flavors that pair really well together, and it's Gluten Free! Grilled Oysters--The best presentation I've ever seen for oysters. If you don't normally love oysters, order these anyway. They are great. Brussels & Burrata--I will order this every time I visit. This dish is perfection. Autumn Squash Mezzaluna--Did you know they make their own pasta in-house?! Everything about this is cozy comfort food. I only wish it came with bread to soak up all the delicious leftover sauce at the end. The Hulman Burger--I didn't try this one myself, but multiple people at my table ordered it and said it was great! Millionaire--I love fruity & floral cocktails, and this one was fabulous. Wabash Old Fash--Very smooth and they even spritz it with gold! Bonus, it's 100% Hoosier-made! STP--I loved the hint of spice in this fruit-forward cocktail. I attended The Hulman for a business dinner. I was disappointed in the food for the price and the service. For a $51 steak, it was a small portion with no side options (it comes as it comes). It was also not cooked how I requested. The truffle mashed potatoes were the star of the show. As for service, we were in a private room and our hosts had to exit the space to request attention. We had a reservation for 4 that should have given us ample time to get to the concert. When we arrived, we the place was not filled. We had to wait to order food. When we ordered, we ordered an appetizer and a salad along with our meals. One person ordered a salad with no raisins. As we waited for our appetizer before our meal, the place filled. We saw others get food and yet we waited. Finally we had to ask about it. (along with asking for more water that was spilled over two of our party.) We finally received our food including the appetizer and the salad all together. The person who ordered the salad with no raisins received a salad with raisins. Probably my favorite short rib I've had in Indianapolis. 1977 cocktail is delicious with a beautiful float and doesn't rely too heavily on the mezcal for flavor, as many mezcal cocktails do. First of all, I love the vibe/ decor. Spacious and cool, and unlike any other venue I can think of in Indy. All the food I've tried is delish. It's been awhile so I can't recall what I had last, but definitely loved the mood of the place. The only criticism I have could apply to lots of places- I think they may be a little understaffed from time to time. I also called about a larger party to bring here and no one ever called me back. This was my first time at The Hulman and everything about it was truly divine. The decor was very modern and tastefully decorated. The oysters was delicious and the meatballs was the best thing on the menu. Drinks were good! The waiter was subpar and very slow but other than that everything was wonderful. The staff was extremely attentive. We were a little lost attempting to find this on the lobby level of the hotel, but staff graciously guided us to a hostess and bar seating was readily available. From there, the bartenders were again very personable and talented. The drinks were delicious! The food, however, left much to be desired. Great presentation, but the flavor did not live up. Not sure if this is a seasonal menu, but certainly lots of winter vegetables incorporated into dishes, which require a bit more seasoning than was ultimately served. I would return here, however, for the drinks! read more
