We've been going off and on for decades here. Not much changes, but the prices keep getting higher. The ingredients are good, but unexciting. It's tough to leave without spending $20+/person, and more is easy. This is a neighborhood bistro, if with tough parking. People hover trying to get spots, and it's popular. Why OK and not good? It's gotten tired. It's not quite a caricature of itself, frozen in time. There is nothing bold, only occasionally novel. That's not to say it's flavored badly, doesn't use good ingredients, but it feels somewhat manufactured. Perhaps this review is the contempt bred from familiarity. It's not awful, can seat many, and is clean with good service. It lacks panache, but charges for it. read more

Came here for a late lunch on Sunday (1:30 pm) and found out they don't serve the lunch/dinner menu until 2pm. Rather than waiting for 30 minutes, we decided to order off the brunch menu, which exceeded expectations! We aren't big breakfast people, but opted for the country hash and Italian frittata. Both were flavorful and the perfect amount of food. The decor was fun and was equal parts pub, sports bar, and academic. Our server was knowledgeable and kind, and was attentive despite the crowd. This restaurant has a classic, old-timey pub feel to it. You can sense the UK roots, but also this place is distinctly American. When I first walked in, I was enamored with this unique, lush woodsy space. The place feels like it's been around for quite some time and it's located in an area that feels suburban or suburban adjacent. I was a tourist in town and I was on my 'food tourism / brewery crawl' leg of my trip. I read that a pork tenderloin sandwich is one of the food items to get in town and through my limited research, saw that this place is a great place to get it! When I got here, it was at that odd time that's after prime lunch (I wanna say 2ish?), so I was able to get seated in the bar area right away. I was greeted and helped by the friendliest ladies, but sadly, I can't remember their names (Saturday 9/6/25). I came in knowing what I wanted so I ordered the sandwich and a beer. When the "sandwich" came out, I was like holy moly!!! It was huge. The person who brought out my sandwich just said welcome to Indiana, LOL. It wasn't so much a sandwich, more like a large schnitzel with a comically tiny hat in the form of a sandwich bun to put on top. The pork was tenderized thin and perfectly fried. It was a delicious "sandwich", but I had to cut a lot of the meat away to actually eat it like a sandwich and I had a nice snack for later when I got back to my hotel room. We had two couples that went for the first time to the aristocrat pub and restaurant in Broadripple. We went early around 5 o'clock and found ample parking. There is a small parking lot beside the building, but we parked on the street. We were promptly seated in this very old style elegant pub with lots of wood. It was really nice. Our server was from England with a great accent. He was really funny and really entertained us. It added to our dining experience. We ordered the mussels for all four of us, they were awesome. they filled all 4 us all up. one of our friends had the happy hour tenderloin sliders which he said was great. Our other friend had some sort of pasta that was full full of cheese. My wife and I split the breaded tenderloin, oh my gosh, it was really good. I would highly recommend it. Also our friend is an old-fashioned connoisseur and he said it was good. overall great service great ambience delicious food. Fun! I've been here many times with a group event in the upstairs. This September, my wife and I went here on a date. We were greeted promptly with a smile. We were able to sit outside, so we took it. The outside is decorated nicely with a lot of greenery. We were able to have our conversation, enjoy the weather and have a great night. The food was good. I had the Guinness Stew special. It hit the spot! My wife had the vegetarian ravioli. It was okay. Neither of us cared too much for the sauce it was in. My first visit here was with a group of approximately 13 which they handled well. Service was fast and friendly. Our waitress took our orders without writing anything down. Great memory. I opted for chicken strips and fries which were pretty good. They are known for their large tenderloins. I had half of one for lunch the next day and it was tasty. We stopped in before a show at Butler. It had been many years since I had stopped by the establishment. We sat at a high top in the bar. The bartender was quick to greet us and bring us waters. She was very friendly and happy to help with suggestions. We shared the baked brie, which was delicious with a pretzel roll and apples. I had the shrimp tacos. I love the dish - shrimp are sautéed and not fried. Helps the flavors come out rather than tasting just the breading. The cabbage and grilled corn is outstanding. This is a really good dish and very plentiful. I love the look of the bar and the old pictures and many a beer mug or Stein. We'll have to come back soon. read more

This was my first time stopping in at the aristocrat for several years. The inside definitely has a comfy English pub vibe as other reviewers have noted. I ordered the cherry chicken salad sandwich and upgraded to fries for $3. I'm glad I did because the fries were fantastic. Thick cut, crispy, with perfectly fluffy potato that melts in your mouth. Unfortunately the chicken salad did not deliver. The amount of chicken salad was pretty disappointing for a $15 price point. The croissant it came on was dense and overwhelmed the salad. The chicken salad itself was a bit dry and I needed to add mayo to compensate. There was nothing else on the sandwich like tomato or lettuce. The cherries were a delightful addition but couldn't make up for all of the other components. Overall it ended up being underwhelming. My husband ordered the fish and chips and agreed with me on the fries. His fish was hot and crispy and the breading seemed to have some cornmeal in it that added extra crunch. He also mentioned the tartar sauce being above average. All in all, the fish and chips was wayyyy better than the chicken salad. Our server was very friendly and attentive. Actually picked up an order to go here on a trip somewhere and we're very impressed by everything. Strawberry Blues Salad was so perfectly fresh and delicious! Came with strawberries and cantaloupe and I would not have expected this ever having cantaloupe in a salad and actually liking it! There was some goat cheese in the salad went so well with everything else going on. Very big portion size on this as well which I am very grateful for. For the sandwich, we actually picked the grill the tenderloin instead of the fried one to save some calories and it was a very good decision. People say that the sandwich can be a bit dry but this was actually lovely. We made a proper sandwich out of it with some lettuce and onion and some pickles as well and this was quite a flavorful one. 10/10 recommend! I came here in my twenties for some pints at the beautiful wooden, pub-style bar. I've been here for a private party and thought the food was pretty good but not outstanding. I recently came back and had a Caesar salad with crispy lemon pepper chicken that checked all my boxes for when you want junk food but need some vegetables. The service was a bit slow even though it wasn't very crowded, and call me old fashioned but I really hate when a server has an AirPod in their ear while talking with me. My kids liked the antique-store vibes with model boats and lots of other things to look at. Summary: interesting atmosphere, decent food, service could be improved. I think everyone can find something to their liking on the menu. The coffee is great here, the portions are generous and the prices reasonable. There's a bar side with lots of seating and then a family seating area. I've sat at the bar both times, or wait maybe it's 3 times, I've been here. Great bartenders each time! First time I came here I got the tenderloin which is hugeeee. It's a thin style, really liked it. It placed top 5 on my tenderloin list. This time I got the chicken parm! I have spent $4,330.12 at The Aristocrat since 11/18/2024. I love the Aristocrat. I frequent it several times a week. I don't normally go on Tuesday nights because Logan and Alex aren't working. I made an exception tonight and went on a Tuesday. I will NEVER GO BACK TO THE ARISTOCRAT again so long as Jason is working and/or bartending there. I have never met a person so arrogant, rude, full of himself, or confident when stealing from elderly clientele. The woman I accompanied had more than $375 in bonus points from her many visits to The Aristocrat. Jason assured me she PREFERRED to spend money rather than use her points because it was "too confusing" for her. To me it felt like he needed the tip money rather than he felt like doing his client a solid. When I said as much, he couldn't have been more rude or condescending. The same happened when I left. I told him to fuck off. I live close to the Aristocrat but will spend my $4.3K somewhere else this year unless they fire Jason. Be sure to go Wednesday through Sunday and sit at the bar when Alex and Logan are working. If Jason is bartending or your server, find somewhere else to sit or eat. You are guaranteed to be shocked - if not by condescension, then certainly by disappointing service or his complete disregard for the customer's best interests. Jason believes we prefer pay money rather than use our bonus point...even when we have $375 bonus points (PS do you know how you earn bonus points at the Aristocrat?) I don't know but I'm sure when you have that much money in BONUS points you've probably spent 10x that much at the restaurant. It shocks the conscience in my opinion. read more

Food was around a 4. Service and attitude a 1. We came in and asked for a table of 10. 90% of big room was available. Lady at desk was completely put out and she sat us at a table for 9. What I said it was for 10. She just grabbed the chair and threw it around the big ground table. There were tons of space in a long aisle that could've put tables together. Service took a while for them to come around and they didn't seem overly enjoyed any way shape or form. I will say everybody thought their food was pretty good. And everything that I saw people had looked pretty good. I then got a call for another 12 people to come over. So I addressed it with the same woman and she gave me the same attitude. I know they had just gotten a party of like 15 or 18 to go in and they set up the table for them, so I'm sure she was thinking. Oh my God now we're gonna be really busy , but I thought the entire purpose of owning a restaurant was to fill it. Then the manager came up, said she could help and I made a comment about the post she apologized said yeah sometimes she could be a little grouchy. She then came up to me and said I'm surprised that you feel like I'm being unaccommodating. I told her she was being unaccommodating. I know it was a busy weekend for the entire area with lots of sporting events, but if that's a problem either close or staff for it. By no means, should you ever have somebody with an attitude who doesn't really want a busy place as the host. Aristocrat Pub & Restaurant has been serving Indianapolis since 1933. There is a small parking lot adjacent to the restaurant. We arrived at 5 pm and all of the spots were already taken but we were able to easily find street parking. The interior has a split dining room with a fireplace. There is plenty of wood in the decor and the environment is very inviting. The four of us dined in on a Friday night and they happened to have a live music performance and some of the servers were dressed up as pirates. There is a $5 surcharge per guest to dine in and enjoy the music. We opted out and sat outdoors instead because our young daughters would find the music too loud. For our dinner, we shared two entrees: Hoosier's fried pork tenderloin with a side of cole slaw and fish and chips. Portions were generous to say the least. We are glad that we went with cole slaw instead of kettle chips for the fried pork tenderloin because it was a good balance to the fried food which was a tad heavy and dry. It was good to check off but not necessarily something that we would re-order. The fish and chips were standard and our firstborn actually cleared half of the plate on her own. Score! read more

Stumbled upon this place one day and had it in the back of my mind. My sister recommended it for dinner one night so we decided to try it out. The patio was packed with people which seemed like a good sign. We opted for indoor dining but it worked out in our favor because there was trivia! The inside had so much character and had that classic pub feel. I ordered the shrimp po boy and it was delicious. The shrimp was huge and it also came with very crispy fries. Everyone enjoyed their food. We ended up staying for trivia and got 2nd place which meant we won 2 free appetizer vouchers! Our server was great - so friendly. One of the classic places in Indianapolis to get their famous pork tenderloin sandwiches. Pros - the pork tenderloin sandwiches are HUGE!! They pound the meat so thin and it absolutely dwarfs the regular sized hamburger bun. I like to cut the tenderloin into bun sized sliced and eat a quadruple layer sandwich. Cons - outdoor seating is beautiful but close to a lot of trees so bugs and leaves may fall onto your plate. I stopped by this pub for a late Sunday brunch last weekend, and it was definitely great. The service was attentive and we were seated immediately despite the time and day of the week! The coffee was strong and satisfying, and everything arrived in a timely manner. The pub is also super cute. It was hard to choose from the large menu, but I went with the smoked salmon Benedict, which was SO GOOD. I also got one blueberry pancake on the side, and it was fluffy on the inside, crispy on the outside, and definitely hit the spot. Everyone else at my table really enjoyed their food, the chicken and waffles standing out as a highlight. They were accompanied by some sort of delicious funky spicy syrup. No complaints here at all. Our foodie group came here for brunch one Sunday and I'm so glad we did! I've heard nothing but great things about Aristocrat so I had to check it out for myself. The ambiance is very nice and quaint and very old style with antiques displayed throughout the restaurant. The architecture of the restaurant is nice and gives it a nice family style home feeling when you walk into the restaurant. Our server, Julie Ann, was a pure delight and ray of sunshine. She took very care of our group and made sure we had everything we needed. She was on top of the coffee refills and kept us up to date on the status of our food. She always had a smile on her face the entire time. The food was incredible! I ordered the smoked salmon frittata with fresh fruit. When I took my first bite, I fell in love with the dish! It was the perfect texture and combination of flavors. The smoked salmon brought out the flavor in the frittata. The fresh fruit was a nice combination of different fruit with watermelon, blackberry, blueberry, and banana. The masala Chai tea was excellent as well. I am a regular tea drinker, so when I tried this tea, I loved it very much! The other members of the group enjoyed their dishes as well. One person ordered the French toast fondue and loved it. Another person ordered the West Coast frittata and appeared to enjoy the dish. I decided to get the Hoosier tenderloin with french fries to go to have later on for dinner, because my friend told me the Hoosier tenderloin is the best item at the Aristocrat. I can confirm that he was right! The Hoosier tenderloin sandwich is a great portion for one person and tasted amazing. The French fries were good as well and seasoned just right. I am so glad I ordered it and tried it for the time. Aristocrat is definitely one of the top brunch places in Indy, and I would highly recommend everyone to come here for Sunday brunch. The bar area is also neat and a great place for a drink, so if you are looking to hang out with friends over a beer one night or on a Saturday, you should come to the Aristocrat. As unbelievable as this may sound, not a single state has an official sandwich. And after eating the unofficial state sandwich of Indiana I think I know why. First things first though, according my extensive internet research, the official unofficial state sandwich of Indiana is the Pork Tenderloin. And if you are only going to eat one, which was the plan, then it should be eaten at the Aristocrat Pub & Restaurant. It comes on a bun (mine was oddly from Toronto) that covers a maximum of 33% of the loin, with lettuce, tomato, and three dill pickle coins and a loin eater's choice of ketchup, mayo and/or mustard (I chose mayo). For some it might be advisable to share. Washed down by a draft Ayinger Lager: Excellent!!! So good in fact I'm thinking I'll share another with Mrs. AAR if the opportunity arises. Oh, yeah, the reason why this great country lacks even one official state sandwich¹ may be the same reason this country can't provide adequate health care . . . politics. In Indiana's case House Bill 1143 has languished since 2023 possibly due to pushback from the Polish sausage and fried brain sandwich lobby. ¹ According to Wikipedia the "Taylor Ham, Egg, and Cheese," is the only official state sandwich. It was made "official" by the New Jersey governor on May 25, 2023, though this might just be due to the Taylor Swift's impending visiting to MetLife Stadium.
