Tenderloin
Rod S.

Asked an employee at Gainbridge where she would get a tenderloin if she wanted one. Said I had been told Indiana t-loins were better than Iowa's and wanted to see. I will admit this was very good but I have had better in Iowa. Bartender/server was very personable and we had no complaints.

You cannot go wrong with the fish and chips! A friend and me went to dinner at Red Lion on Sunday. The restaurant was not very busy. I ordered the curry and chips and it came out quickly. The curry had a bit of spice to it. I liked it. My friend did not. The chip aka fries were good. Our dinner came out right after getting our appetizer. I ordered the fish and chips and it was excellent. The batter on the fish had a good crunch. It came with a small cup of slaw and tartar sauce. There was malt vinegar and other condiments on the table. One thing I didn't like was not the restaurants fault. There is a club next door and the bass from the music was very loud and distracting while we were trying to talk. I was surprised it was so loud at 4:30 on a Sunday.

One of my favorite places for fish and chips. They are consistently delicious. Red Lion gives off Irish/English vibes with dishes like bangers and mash, Shepherds pie, scotch eggs and fish & chips, but they also have a large assortment of burgers and sandwiches. It's right in the middle of Fountain Square. Service has been solid each time as well.

Have you been to Red Lion? Why not? They're delicious! Come on these guys would get a 5 star just for having elephant ears! Which by the way are served piping hot and sprinkle in cinnamon deliciousness. Red Lion is located on the main strip in Fountain Square. It really is like (or what I would guess) walking into a British pub. With the old feel of the Murphy's building and the wooden bar area. I got the ol Indiana favorite - breaded tenderloin but they also have London staples like bangers n mash and Shepards pie. There is certainly going to be something for everyone in your party to find.

New owners alert!! I hadn't been here in years since I came for the deep Fried burger. I was so excited to return and try so many different menu items. The loaded tots were so so good, along with the wings (boneless creamy garlic and bone in hot) their homemade ranch was best of the best for sure. I got the fish and chicken combo which I enjoyed and they had some unique dessert items, elephant ear and bread pudding. I got to speak with the owners and they were excited to share all they've put into the restaurant as well as future i

I went to Red Lion for lunch today. Matt, the bartender, was awesome! He was very attentive, personable and friendly even though he had to take care of the whole bar. This is only the 2nd time I have been here and it had been a LONG time. I asked him what he would recommend between the bangers and mash and fish and chips if he were eating and without hesitation he said the fish and chips. The fish was excellent! Flaky, juicy fall apart melt in your mouth fish and excellent tasty,,crunchy breading. The tartar sauce, lemon, and malt vinegar they provided really set it off. The "chips" were okay. I believe they are house made. Could have stood to have some more seasoning the coleslaw was good too. The atmosphere is still great. Looks like an old English pub still. I didn't drink today but beer selection and drink selection looked excellent. Overall great experience.

Somehow we are always in Fountain Square but had never tried before! We went on a weeknight and it was surprisingly packed. Turns out it was trivia night and was SO fun! The setup makes it feel a bit crowded when busy, but there is plenty of seating options. I ordered the chipotle bbq wings and the house made ranch was incredible. We also got the mozzarella sticks & a tenderloin -- both were pretty good! Drinks and all food options were very fairly priced!

Feeling like a bit of British cuisine we suggested this spot for a meet up with friends. They also have the added bonus of half-priced appetizers if you arrive between 4-6. Yay! We love a good deal especially if it is delicious! There are several tables near the door as well as tables lining the wall as the space is long and narrow. It doesn't feel crossed though but more cozy and friendly. Our server was helpful and nice and kept bringing us drinks even after we paid our bill (which is one of the things I often notice as a personal sign of good customer service). The menu is varied with some standard pub type options but with a British twist. We had their fries and fried pickle chips which were excellent. We got the curry sauce as well as some Barbeque sauces which paired perfectly. And I have to say the portions were large and more than expected, we even had enough to share with our friends! The various entrees were flavorful and tasty and not a bite was left of anything by the time we had looked up from our plates. It is very hearty fare so don't think salads and veggies but more things you eat on a cold night when wanting to be warm and cozy. But delicious! We have enjoyed this spot before and will again, so if you haven't tried it it is worth the effort. Plus they do have a great vegan house made burger that my husband says is well worth the trip.

Incredible food and atmosphere. It's a great place to go for classic britishb pub food as well as American classics! The fish and chips were very very good, as well as the French onion soup. Red lion will be a new go to for me in fountain square!!!

It's Friday night date night and I'm here with my husband. There's a thumping bar next door. It's a little loud in here but not as loud as another popular place in fountain square. They have Scottish eggs! However, we decided on the loaded pots. Heads up, that s*** is hot! The cheese has chunks of peppers in it. They have a lot of beers and some signature cocktails. They have my favorite woodford. They're not big on wine for sure. We did the chicken and fish combo for dinner. We had mild Buffalo sauce with our chicken. That s*** was hot too! I'm not a fan of natural cut fries and they weren't hot. The fish and chicken were beer battered and piping hot. They were good but nothing special.

My new favorite in Fountain Square woohoo! Im almost ashamed I had not tried this place until now. I joined my friends for trivia and had a great time! Tables were all taken by the time trivia started but I noticed that there was only one gentleman working as a server. But he was so impressive, he took care of us with no delay! He would take orders, take payments, bus the tables on his own and wow I've not seen such a hard worker in a while. He is amazing. I checked in on Yelp and I got a coupon for a free chips and curry! Hooray! I also had a bowl of chili which was great too. Will come back regularly!!!!!

Do they offer a gluten free menu or just gluten free bun for a burger?

They do not offer a gluten free menu, that I know of. Most of their food is deep fried and super yummy. I think the healthiest thing on the menu is either the veggie burger or one of their grilled chicken sandwiches which you can get wheat bread… Read more

I paid the $8 to upgrade the mac to lobster mac...so delicious & so worth it (the upgrade was so unnecessary but so necessary, iykyk!). I also love that they allow you to mix & match on the sliders (filet, fried shrimp, or wagyu beef with Brie). I went with 1 filet and 1 wagyu beef, which was also perfect! Would love to try the fried shrimp at some point. The accompanying aiolis perfectly complemented the sliders! I completed my meal with a lemon drop martini. Service was friendly & attentive. Will definitely keep this spot in mind the next time I return to Indy & would highly recommend to others. In fact, I found it superior to my experience @ Harry & Izzy's--much more my vibe!

Even though they were busy the wait was not very long and the host was so nice and I wish I could remember his name. Our server was so nice and kind and made great recommendations. I had the mocktail Nohito and it was sooo cute and delicious! The others had cocktails and a bottle of coke (yes glass bottle)- cute right?! Now we had the Karange tofu and I need that recipe! The crispiest most flavorful tofu outside and nice and soft inside. Couldn't tell it wasn't chicken! We also had oysters. For dinner I had the Katsu Curry and it was on point! And the leftovers were just as delicious. My sister had the Tantanmen and it was sooo good!! I could drink that broth. They do give you options for rice instead of noodles and broth if you like options. We also shared the Glazed tofu and yall it will change your LIFE!!! The drinks, the ramen, the dessert...we love it all, and we love spending our money at a local business. For years now, the kitchen has substituted rice for ramen for me because I have gluten intolerance. I have always asked respectfully, explained why, and said thank you, every single time. Tonight my husband and I walked down to Strangebird for dinner, ordered drinks and dinner, and I had *just* said to my husband that Strangebird has come to feel like a second home. Then the server came out and told us that the chef has decided they will no longer permit any modifications, including those that meet dietary needs. We were out on the quiet patio surrounded by other customers, so on top of being totally blindsided, it was actually pretty embarrassing, too. Folks, let me tell you how much I wish I could just eat the ramen noodles like everybody else. So much food that I love (and in some cases spent years learning to make myself) went out the window forever when my body stopped being able to handle wheat. But at Strangebird, I could still go in and enjoy the depth of flavor in every other component of a bowl of ramen. And that meant the absolute world to me. I'm heartbroken.

Keagan Fife (Manager) - A team player, receptive to feedback and conscientious. We had a issue while there and he was able to step in and problem solve with me and come up with a solution that really won us over. We had a moment where it was feeling a bit "why did we come here" but his customer service exceeded expectation. That's good management. (He's the gentleman in the video below.) Let's get the negative out the way 1st. The first waitress asked if we wanted anything to drink. I told her we hadn't received menus. She came back sat them down and walked away. We never saw her again. A new waitress came and she seemed pleasant enough. Once we were all seated she began to take our orders. She made a point to say she needed to write it all down or she was get it mixed up. She then did not write anything down. Our food came out extremely slow but that wasn't a huge deal because we all were mingling. A lot of her team had to step in and deliver our food, give drinks, check on us etc. She was pretty non existent. Two of the ladies never received food. This was after we had been there for 2 hours and everyone else had received their items. At the end when we asked for our check they were all mixed up and confused. The waitress then blamed us for adding things and moving around. We never moved once and she only came around the one time when she originally took our orders. We never got a chance to add things. (it was quite comical that she tried to say that) I ended up asking for manager because she seemed overwhelmed and a bit bias about our group. Assuming that we wouldn't want one check and splitting them because she figured we would want it that way and then blaming us because she did it when we never asked for split. There rule is parties over 8 have to have 1 bill and we never asked for an exception. There was just her assumption that a group of black women wouldn't want to do that. (I digress) There were a few more things but I will end it there. That was the big negative. Now the positive!!! Ambiance 10/10 - great views, great music, great location, umbrellas on roof were great although a but wobbly and scary. Also, they come around with complimentary sunglasses while dining. I thought this was a nice and luxurious touch! Food 8/10 - most food received was delicious Service 9/10 - everyone except for our server was great! Everyone who pitched in to help was awesome! Ended up tipping a different server who basically helped us the whole time. Bless his heart because I know he was super busy. As stated above management handle the situation well. I would definitely go back! I try to give people a chance. I think our server may have been overwhelmed and had a past experience that left her bias against our group but hopefully she can grow and get better. Her actions don't reflect the restaurant as a whole! Go and enjoy the vibes and views!
