Such a fun sports bar! I don't know how I've never been here-- especially since I used to work on Mass Ave several years ago. We stopped in for drinks before heading to dinner with a group of friends, and they quickly accommodated our large group. Service was fast, and I have no complaints! It's a pretty small space, but it's a perfect spot for quick, affordable drinks. I know they serve food, though I'm not sure what the menu looks like--I'd assume typical bar food. It's also a great place to watch the game, with several TVs throughout. Bonus: they have TouchTunes, which made the experience even better!

This is a fantastic place! Bar food. Bar vibe. Total acceptance. The day bartender has some sort of pact with the devil for flawless perfect skin!! The food is incredible. The people are phenomenal!!! The drinks are great!!! Go here!!!

Pork tenderloin true to tenderloin size. Steak fries a huge plus for me!

Food was excellent. I love me a good Pork Tenderloin when I'm back in IN. Service was great also:) Very quaint bar setting, will absolutely come back when we're in town. Oh! Did I mention they have steak fries!! Prices were also great!

Mass Ave Pub is a gem of a bar, and probably the last remaining "dive" bar on the avenue. They've held true to who they are which you why they have such regular clientele! A MUST order is the nachos! The tortilla chips are hand fried which is a game changer, and super thick which allows them to hold all the toppings without breaking. Although you might be able to find fancier nachos throughout the city, you'd be hard pressed to find better nachos than Mass Ave Pubs!

Semi-dive bar with decent liquor selection and a great waitress. Friend had the burger which he enjoyed and I had the BLT w/onion rings. BLT was standard, nothing to write home about (toast was a bit overdone and could have used better bread) and rings were excellent. 5 stars for our waitress, she was funny and the only reason we stayed longer than planned!

I normally come for drinks and karaoke on Monday. The atmosphere is always great. We got the pizza, breadsticks and nachos. The pizza is small but tastes great for bar food. Breadsticks and cheese are 3/5. The nachos are made in house and are 3/5. I recommend this bar for fair priced drinks and good atmosphere. Bonus that this bar is a safe space.

True story - I was sitting at my computer this morning when a Facebook status popped up from friend and Nuvo Newsweekly film critic Ed Johnson-Ott. Ed has become increasingly open about the fact that he is living with Parkinson's Disease, an incurable disease that may be dramatically impacting his body yet hasn't begun to impact his impeccable spirit, relentless creativity, and remarkable passion for life. The status message let us know that the previous night he'd visited Mass Ave Pub, a downtown Indy establishment within walking distance of his apartment. While he's not always physically up to it, last night he and his son got out of the apartment and headed over to this fine place for dinner. As anyone who has experienced Parkinson's knows, it impacts the body in a wide variety of ways including, at times, a persistent shakiness that can impact fine motor skills.Last night, Ed's server, whom we would later learn was Jess, noticed that Ed was having difficulty cutting up his meal. In a respectful way, she came up to him and offered to take his plate for a minute nothing that she would cut it up for him and return it. Ed graciously thanked her and moments later she returned with a cut up meal that had still been arranged so it looked appetizing. Ed would learn that she recognized the shakiness because Parkinson's had touched a loved one's life and she openly stated "I always feel good when I see people with shaky hands eating out. Too many people with Parkinson's stay at home to eat and I think it's sad for people to feel like they need to hide from the world." Within an hour of reading Ed's status message, which would eventually reach the pub's owner, I wheeled myself into Mass Ave Pub for my first ever visit. As a diner in a wheelchair, I will always - 100% - embrace those establishments that go out of the way to welcome my business or the business of others with disabilities or health challenges. Does Ed's experience impact my rating? You betcha. It does. I'm absolutely, 100% unashamed to acknowledge that the experience I had, likely in the comfortably 4-star range, is being bumped up to a 5-star experience because the weaving together of the two add up to Mass Ave Pub becoming a place where I find myself asking "Why have I never come here?" It's partly, to be honest, because I despise paying for parking. There's a couple disabled parking spots within probably 25-50 feet of the pub and directly in front of the neighboring Thai restaurant. The curb cut is present. While Mass Avenue is famously hit-and-miss in terms of access, especially true on this block, I appreciated that the pub has actually placed a small concrete ramp at their door - it's not ADA compliant, but it's not steep and you should be able to hold yourself on the ramp and open their door. As you enter, you see 3 rows of tables, the actual bar, and an area to the left that appears to be used for darts and a digital jukebox set-up. The interior is nicely decorated and there's quite a few options for wheelchair users. My server, a male whose name I never caught, was quite helpful and one other employee moved the chair at the table to give me more room when I'd moved it gently to the side. I took a table near the back, though the early lunch hour during which I arrived meant the place was only modestly busy. As has been noted, the bar mostly serves typical bar food that is reasonably priced. Mass Ave Pub gives off a true "neighborhood bar" feel - far less pretentious than some of the overpriced bars on the avenue and a lot more casual in terms of food, dress and service. You will be treated well here, though you may not necessarily be "catered" to. I kept things simple today - I ordered a build-your-own burger - plan, medium-well, and on a kaiser bun. I ordered my usual iced tea. While the burger comes with chips (Ruffles, to be precise), you can upgrade for a small charge to fries - $1.25 for steak fries. Yum. The burger is an 8 oz. slab o' beef and definitely not skimpy. Even with my upcharge, I ate for just under $10. Seriously. A meal for less than a ten spot on Mass Avenue. I got my always desired refill and service that was attentive without ever being intrusive. On my way out, the server grabbed the door. While not necessary, it was appreciated. To be honest, I can barely think about Ed's experience without shedding a tear. If you have a disability, especially one that impacts motor skills (as I do), you've been looked at, stared at, laughed at, and you've gotten the death stare if you dare get a little sloppy. MOST people are wonderful, but trust me - the opposite happens. While I wasn't having such a day today, there's something special about having those places you can identify where you can go, relax, enjoy a meal and, maybe most importantly, be yourself. I can't believe I haven't been here before now, but I'll tell you straight up that I can't wait to go back.

They had the door open, which was letting in the fresh almost-spring air.) Drinks are pretty much all they have at Snug, to be honest. Don't visit thinking you're going to find a meal, because they don't have a lot of food beyond locally made hand pies and empanadas, a grazing board, and something called Snug Nuts. (Which brings to mind certain ... images.) I didn't get any food, just a Road & Coke, which is a whiskey with a Coke and lime, similar to a Cuba libre, although a Cuba uses rum. It was delicious, but a little light on the booze. It was only $5 and change, though, so it's kind of like what do you expect, really. It was a nice drink to sip slowly while I sat in the small, cozy bar. Speaking of bar aesthetics: Snug lives up to its name. It's tiny and dark but inviting. It feels like stepping into a hug. A hug that can also provide you with copious amounts of Irish whiskey, which sounds like the best kind of hug, to me.

The AVG is definitely a neighborhood tavern. It's cozy and very laid back with high top tables. I ordered an Old Fashioned but mixed drinks weren't really on offer unless it was something like rum and coke. I had a beer. It was fine. We were there for about an hour and a half. I would definitely return. The vibes were slow paced. We moved on to The Checkered Flag. Wowza!! It was a Thursday night but the place was hopping. We were joined by another friend with plans to have a bite to eat. The menu is unbelievable. So much to choose from. We were kind of boring because 3 of us chose the same thing and the other two chose the same item. Two had the pork tenderloin. Both agreed it was excellent. Three of us had the BBQ Pork spud. It's a giant baked potato with butter, a good spread of pimento cheese, moist pulled pork, BBQ sauce, coleslaw and green onions. It was fantastic. Normally the pork can become a bit dry. This was not the case. Cooked perfectly. I was able to order the Old Fashioned. They apologized because they were out of oranges but I was fine. It was a very good drink. There happened to be two musicians performing. I was quite impressed. This tavern was very very impressive. We all agreed to return Our final stop was Herrmann. It's a small brewery tucked away off a quiet street. We were offered several tastings of the beers on offer. We were all able to find something to our liking. I had a porter. There are tables for four spread around the seating area. It's comfortable and definitely a neighborhood haunt. All three places were definitely neighborhood taverns. The Checkered Flag was hands down the best! Indy has so much to offer!
