Fort Ben Burger with fries. Basic pub food here. Burger was cooked well, fries were crispy and seasoned. Small strip mall parking. Not too crowded for lunch at all on a Monday at noon. Daily lunch special is written on a board in their foyer.

    Philly Cheesesteak was delicious!

Stopped in for the first time at Fort Ben Pub and I'm already looking forward to my next visit. My server (Cindy) made feel like I was a longtime patron and provided great service. I ordered the Philly Cheesesteak and it did not disappoint. The bread had a nice crisp from the flattop to elevate the flavor while still remaining soft. The strips of beef were seared to perfection while remaining juicy. Even the green peppers had a nice chop size so I'd still enjoy a burst of freshness in every bite. The space was clean and much larger than I had imagined. Fort Ben Pub is exactly what I look for in a good bar & grill. Thank you.

I made my first visit to the Fort Ben Pub yesterday. It is located in a short strip mall in the 5600 block of Post Road in northeast Indianapolis on the grounds of what used to be the U.S. Army's Fort Benjamin Harrison. There is ample free parking in a spacious lot right outside the front door. The public dining area is a rectangular room with a bar at the west end. There is seating for about one-hundred patrons. There are additional tables and chairs outside along the front of the establishment. The decor and overall atmosphere are casually comfortable. There are some six muted television sets wall-mounted around the area. I can easily see this being a great place to watch a televised sporting event. When I arrived in the early afternoon the sets were all muted and recorded background music played at a volume conducive to conversation. Adjacent to the dining area is a game room with two pool tables and a dart board. They have a pleasingly comprehensive menu of pub grub selections including appetizers, salads and soup, pizzas, quesadillas, sliders, tacos, sandwiches and wraps, sides, daily specials, and more. The prices are all quite reasonable. A full bar offers a range of beers, wines, and distilled spirits as well as daily drink specials. My server Kelly was friendly and attentive. I ordered a Chef Salad which comprised a satisfactory combination of salad greens, cheese, egg, ham, olives, tomatoes, and turkey. They did not have a poppyseed dressing but they did have a honey-mustard and the overall dish was excellent. The Fort Ben Pub is an establishment I would recommend to anyone. I look forward to returning soon.

They had the door open, which was letting in the fresh almost-spring air.) Drinks are pretty much all they have at Snug, to be honest. Don't visit thinking you're going to find a meal, because they don't have a lot of food beyond locally made hand pies and empanadas, a grazing board, and something called Snug Nuts. (Which brings to mind certain ... images.) I didn't get any food, just a Road & Coke, which is a whiskey with a Coke and lime, similar to a Cuba libre, although a Cuba uses rum. It was delicious, but a little light on the booze. It was only $5 and change, though, so it's kind of like what do you expect, really. It was a nice drink to sip slowly while I sat in the small, cozy bar. Speaking of bar aesthetics: Snug lives up to its name. It's tiny and dark but inviting. It feels like stepping into a hug. A hug that can also provide you with copious amounts of Irish whiskey, which sounds like the best kind of hug, to me.

Small, little, somewhat burnt, STEAMING HOT, not-so-buttery and not-so-cajun-ish corn on the cobs. Next we have the chicken. I would've rather grown a chicken, killed it for some wings, made a hat with its feathers and made sensory toys with its eyes The buns were probably the best part. The lettuce was cut smaller than you could ever imagine, the chicken had a good amount but tasted like it was drowned in Franks Red Hot Sauce. The tomato was a tomato This isn't all the restaurant though. The other times I visited here were AMAZING The times I sat in the big room were good because, there were TVs to save my boredom, the built in chargers were neat, and the food was just better! The AVG is definitely a neighborhood tavern. It's cozy and very laid back with high top tables. I ordered an Old Fashioned but mixed drinks weren't really on offer unless it was something like rum and coke. I had a beer. It was fine. We were there for about an hour and a half. I would definitely return. The vibes were slow paced. We moved on to The Checkered Flag. Wowza!! It was a Thursday night but the place was hopping. We were joined by another friend with plans to have a bite to eat. The menu is unbelievable. So much to choose from. We were kind of boring because 3 of us chose the same thing and the other two chose the same item. Two had the pork tenderloin. Both agreed it was excellent. Three of us had the BBQ Pork spud. It's a giant baked potato with butter, a good spread of pimento cheese, moist pulled pork, BBQ sauce, coleslaw and green onions. It was fantastic. Normally the pork can become a bit dry. This was not the case. Cooked perfectly. I was able to order the Old Fashioned. They apologized because they were out of oranges but I was fine. It was a very good drink. There happened to be two musicians performing. I was quite impressed. This tavern was very very impressive. We all agreed to return Our final stop was Herrmann. It's a small brewery tucked away off a quiet street. We were offered several tastings of the beers on offer. We were all able to find something to our liking. I had a porter. There are tables for four spread around the seating area. It's comfortable and definitely a neighborhood haunt. All three places were definitely neighborhood taverns. The Checkered Flag was hands down the best! Indy has so much to offer!
