The tavern itself is very cute, filled to the brim with customers, so it's obviously a very popular choice in town. Despite being so busy, it was very clean. We were seated quickly, and although it was loud and bustling, we still felt attended to by our server The chicken wings we got were absolutely delicious!! Tender and flavorful. The buffalo chips were also surprisingly very tasty! We thought they would just be powder covered kettle chips, but they're actually thinly sliced fried potatoes with a delicious seasoning. The appetizer plate was also pleasant, we might not have liked everything we tried, but it's a large portion with a great selection to try! Our main entrees were a little lacking, my burger was unfortunately very overdone, making it dry and crumbly. My husband, funny enough, had an underdone steak that was closer to rare/blue than medium rare. Coming back, we will probably stick to the appetizers and wings. This review is solely based on a takeout experience. This is my second time ordering wings from The Friendly Tavern and gosh, if you are a fan of wings, this is the place!! I order of The Friendly wings and just for me and it lasted me three meals! Crispy on the outside, succulent on the inside and the sauces were perfection! You can get them on the side or order them cooked in the sauce. I tried the honey apple bbq one and Buffalo and both were so good. There was a bit of a wait and I think there always is because this place is so popular! It was packed inside. The friendly bit really stands out as three separate wait staff came to check if I've been helped while waiting for my pickup order. I can see why Zionsville loves this restaurant. The food is outstanding and the prices are surprisingly affordable. My only minor ding would be the noise level. From what I can tell, this restaurant is almost always packed completely full of people, which is a good thing, but all those people generate a lot of sound. The decibel app on my phone consistently measured 89+ decibels, and although that's not the same as attending the front row of a KISS concert in 1976, 89 decibels is too loud. They were super busy on a Tuesday night. Had a few specials including salmon, or the meatloaf, which was served with mashed and corn. I started with a cup of chilli was hearty as you old push the side in and it stood on its own on the center of the cup. It was full of flavor and did include beans for you Texans. There were several and I mean many plates for chicken wings being served. They bread them here and although sauces are served on the side, I did not see any that were sauced up from the kitchen. That style is about 3,500lbs/week at 2lbs/plate. Then there is the traditional buffalo wing which is not breaded and is a different wing. All the wings are fresh and never frozen. I had the Meatloaf which was browned nicely with good flavor, mashed potatoes were real and good! The Friendly is a Zionsville staple. It's been around for yours and people love it for the atmosphere. I've had different menu items here and there during prior visits in the last 10 years but finally found one I enjoyed. I got the club and it was great size for the price and yummy! Only "complaint" is the ratio of bread but it's still manageable. Perfect meal if you're hungry, wanting to split, or save for leftovers. He came back with my soda and gave me recommendations of the specials. I live in Indiana, so I got the tenderloin with all the toppings. It's a very old building on Main Brick Street in the "village" of Zionsville. A gathering of business employees and the elderly, so it's very loud during lunch. The tenderloin was perfectly breaded, and seasoned. Not overly thick or thin. The toppings were cold and crisp, which helps balance the meat. The bun was soft and didn't take away the delicious taste of the tenderloin. It was a toss up between the tenderloin and the Famous Chicken Wings. There's a pile of wings, and these aren't the little chick wings you get at other places. These are full grown, healthy eating chickens. So if you can't decide, you can't loose. They do not take reservations. Everyone is "friendly". The servers and the other guests smile and make you feel welcome. No kids slowed because it is a bar in Indiana. We went to Friendly's because of a recommendation of a friend. From the outside and looking in it has the vibe of a neighborhood tavern. When we walked in we looked around and were not sure if we should seat ourselves or if someone would seat us. We were soon greeted by a man who appeared laid back and relaxed and pointed to where we should sit. His demeanor was so chill we thought he could have just been another customer.
