This is a cool spot and I don't know why we didn't know about it sooner. They had live music on the day we went. All the food we had was pretty good. I actually thing the appetizers were my favorite part of the meal. The entree was just okay for me; I got the steak tips. It was definitely chewy and I didn't eat all of it. They did sub the mash potatoes for French fries for me. The fries were actually pretty good. They did have a great cocktail menu and a pretty decent whiskey selection. One thing to note about their menu is it does say they decline substitutions. That is definitely understandable but not always the most welcoming when you have an allergy. I do have a dairy allergy which was definitely accommodated but I was definitely made to feel like it was a burden. They didn't have any dairy-free desserts unfortunately but what they did have for desserts looks really good. We will definitely be back. read more

Wife and I stopped by for dinner before we attended a concert at Hendricks Live. Our appetizer, the buffalo hush puppies wasn't my favorite. I thought it was a little dry, that being said my wife absolutely loved them. I had the 10 oz New York strip and it was prepared perfectly. The service was very good and our waitress was very attentive. We wouldn't stuck around for the live music to enjoy the ambiance and location but we had to get across the street for our concert. read more

A small group of us wanted to try a new place during Indy's Devour, and the Prewitt was the perfect place! We originally made reservations for two, but it was early to change and update to four! They did wait until the entire party was present to seat us but we were seated timely. The inside was very unique, being an old theater. I will say the inside was so open that sounds/voices traveled, which made it a bit difficult to hear for me, as I have hearing loss, so I'm not sure I'd want to come back with a large group given my situation. The food was all really great. I will definitely be back for the French dip and fries. My husband loved the stuffed chicken with the truffle potatoes. read more

Nice neighborhood semi fine dining. The food, drink and the atmosphere were all great. Pros: Gourmet food Nice atmosphere Great drinks Great for brunch Nice seatings on the rooftop during summer Cons: Limited selections A bit slow service (they are super nice though just slow/maybe under staff) Price is on a high side Overall, it is a really nice place and the food we had here usually pretty good. We enjoyed brunch menu here a bit more than dinner so far. read more

Went here with a couple girlfriends for Devour last night. The food was amazing. We shared the Wagyu Corn Dogs and Buffalo Chicken Hush Puppies to start. Both had good flavor, the corn dog tasted more like a higher end polish sausage and it would have been nice to have a dipping sauce beyond the drizzle of mustard and ketchup. Same with the hush puppies. They would have benefited from a ranch or blue cheese dipping sauce, as they had a lot of filler. All still very delicious. For our entrees, they each upgraded to the NY Strip, while I did the chicken. The steak was a little grisly for the bite I had BUT that's not my preferred steak type anyway. The chicken was very tender and the truffle mash was very good. We tried the peppermint cup and peanut butter cup desserts in cute little jars. The peppermint cup was more foamy and airy than I had envisioned The peanut butter cup dessert was by far the winner. All in all, we had a great night. They do trivia on Tuesday nights (they were starting as we were leaving), and parking is easy behind the building. We will definitely go back for their other items soon! read more

They did such an amazing job turning this venue into a beautiful restaurant. I've eaten there three times in the last few months and the staff are always friendly. The drinks are fantastic and the food always taste as if it was made just for me! read more

We had the best dinner this evening! We started with the short rib egg rolls which were very very good. Then we had the spring salad which was super light and fresh. We also shared the wings (honey sriracha & pbr barbecue with spicy ranch) and they were excellent. We also had the fried Brussels sprouts which were good. They were fried and salted and peppered, and I probably would have liked some kind of sauce with them, but they were very good as-is. Then we had the burger with fries and those were also delicious. Great flavor on the burger, and the fries were super crispy. Everything was soo good. We wanted to try a dessert but were just too stuffed. Next time, we will save room! Good service and a really night atmosphere too. read more

When The Prewitt signed up for Devour, I knew there were no more excuses to put off trying it. We have stopped in for a cocktail, but had never tried their food. SO happy we finally did. On a busy Saturday night, we were able to snag two seats at the bar upstairs (there is one upstairs and one downstairs). I absolutely love the theme of the restaurant- its very movie theater-esque and the paintings on the wall make it fun. Our bartender was so nice, on it, and paced out our meals wonderfully. The boozy Tammy cocktail is incredible- I'm a sucker for lavender drinks during the summer, and this one was perfect. For my app- I ordered the wagyu corn dogs. Now, if you're thinking the same as me, I'm wondering how corn dogs were going to be made boujee. I will confirm that corn dogs can in fact be made boujee and taste better than any one you've ever had at the state fair. They had this mustard sauce and seeds on them that sent them over the top. I would travel for these corn dogs if I didn't live in town lol. Next, I had the short rib as my meal. It was an upcharge, but 100000% worth it. Best short rib I've ever had. It melted in your mouth, and there was some kind of cheesey grits that gave it the final amazing touch. For dessert, blueberry white chocolate cup. It was a HUGE portion, and as everything else, delicious. If you were like me and decided to wait, please don't anymore. We will be back so soon!! Thanks so much for opening!! read more

After a second visit to the Prewitt and to the rooftop I can say...I had high hopes but eh. The food and drinks were top notch! The service was lacking. Our server was very overwhelmed and even forgot about us it seemed. He did apologize and admitted his oversight but I would expect more from here. My hopes for the rooftop were dashed as the music for that night was cancelled and service lacked. ...If service were matched w the food quality this place would be 5 stars. Unfortunately for me ...I haven't been impressed....expect classy service for the prices. Maybe the lounge/bar would up my review?....I'll try that next...to be continued read more

Tried this location on a Sunday afternoon. I ordered steak taco's. Steak was good but tortillas were served right out of the package and not warmed at all. Wife ordered the mushroom flatbread. We have watched the Prewitt go from the place to watch movies, an empty building, and now to a thriving upscale dinning experience. It is so neat to see what it has turned into. We came for an early dinner on Friday night, and we are glad we got there early because it got busy quick!! It was nice evening so we sat on the rooftop. It is a nice seating area with a stage for live music. For our first experience, we wish we would have sat somewhere inside because there is so much to see. The food was good but the service was better. We started the meal with wagyu corn dogs. Amazing. I could eat those all the time. A classy upscale corn dog. My lady had the steak and I had the quarter-chicken. Everything was so good. The drinks were great too, and some of them had fun names that related to movies. It is more expensive than a regular chain restaurant, but that isn't what they are trying to be. For us, this is a special occasion place to celebrate. It won't be in our regular restaurant rotation, but we will certainly be back! read more

Finally made it to The Prewitt in Plainfield! This is super close to where I live so I am happy to say I LOVED IT. The vibes are so unique since it is an old theater. I will say for being a building and space that was recreated to be a restaurant, I am so impressed. The atmosphere was very modern and high class. It was a rainy day so we did not sit on the rooftop patio. Definitely coming back to try that out! I also went for brunch and got the Brunch LT. The honey sriracha was so good. Will be going back to try the dinner menu for sure!! The service was great and everyone was very nice. Check them out!! read more

Super cute place, they are a bit pricey though. Their steak was cooked to perfection although had no seasoning at all which hit me a little unexpectedly. We dined at the Prewitt last weekend and really enjoyed it! I couldn't resist having the filet and my partner in crime had the salmon. Both were perfectly prepared and gone too soon. Empire Strikes Back was playing on the big screen when we arrived (Yay!) and before we left, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had started. After dinner, we moved the party upstairs to the lounge to enjoy the signature cocktails. I had a smoked Old Fashioned and my better half had the Gone with the Gin cocktail. We enjoyed the Chocolate Peanut Buttercup for dessert. Overall it was a great experience that we intend to repeat! read more

This place has great potential! We came in for a pre-concert dinner! It's great that they offer reservations and free parking in the garage across the street! It's the neatest old school theater turned into a nice restaurant! The food was excellent and they have some very unique things on the menu such as wagyu corn dogs! The gone with the gin cocktail was delightful! The short rib ragu was also excellent! While we enjoyed our food & cocktails, this place has got to get more staff! Our waiter was very kind and did the best he could but he was the only server in the room and every table was full! He was responsible for 10+ tables all with at least 2 people! The staff here should be working better as a team! There were plenty of times when other staff besides our server walked by that could've easily brought a water refill or cleared a plate instead of going back empty handed. They seem to need more servers, we watched 2 tables leave without ordering because our sever just simply couldn't get to them. If you're using this place as a pre-show meal before the theater across the street make sure to give yourself plenty of time or you're going to be late for your show! Overall we enjoyed the Prewitt & we'd eat here again, but there's def room for improvement with the service! read more

The experience at lunch was as good as dinner! The day was too pretty not to enjoy outside so we ate on the roof top deck. It's was private and comfortable, they have a bathroom inside on the top floor too which was nice. The busy street wasn't too loud to relax and talk but maybe some low music would have help drowned it out completely. We enjoyed mimosas, the Prewitt salad, amazing miso wings, and split the Royal With Cheese burger... we thought the wings were really good but the burger was the star for sure. It was messy but in a good way, and not so much that you couldn't enjoy it. Our waiter was friendly and made a great recommendation on the mimosas. It was casual enough during lunch service on the weekend that I would feel comfortable bringing my 2 younger kids to dine on the rooftop for lunch. They don't offer a kid's menu but I think if your kids are well behaved in restaurants and like good food they will still enjoy eating something on the menu and the overall experience. I really wanted to love this place but it was a disappointment. We took our Dad for a Father's Day. The place is lovely and I love the ambiance. Our server was kind and pleasant. However, there were no appetizers available during brunch which was a bummer since it took them a while to bring our meals. My hot girlfriend and I decided to try some new places by putting names in a hat and drawing to see where we're headed. The Prewitt was what came out, and after a quick review of what others thought, we threw caution to the wind and cruised over for an adventure. I must say that it was a high quality trip! The Prewitt is a combination restaurant and theater, and the feature was "Wicked" and the house was packed. It did slow the kitchen a bit, and the bartender (Abbie) was in the weeds for a bit, but she handled with grace. We had cocktails before ordering a shareable Short Rib Eggroll that was delicious. We then ordered from the handheld menu section and the items were delicious. The double smash burger was great, plus the duck fries are a must. The raspberry flatbread was sweet, but very tasty. Abbie took precious time to sign our "Unique Eats and Eateries" book and gave us 5 stars! We will go back to sample other menu items. Overall a pretty cool joint that's worth the trip. read more

I had very high expectations for this place and hoped it would be my new date night place because there aren't a ton of nicer options in Hendricks County. But this place did not meet my expectations. Let's start with the good. The atmosphere is fantastic. The vibe is very trendy and unique that it's in a theatre. It's intimate--perfect for date night. There is a stage and live music. The service was very attentive and quick to respond. The food was really lacking. I ordered the Wagyu corn dogs that tasted just like a corn dog, but just a very expensive ($19) corn dog. I ordered the filet on special. It was supposed the cooked medium rare, but it was medium well. The prosciutto wrapped vension was pretty good. But nothing totally knocked my socks off. It was much more pricey than anticipated. I wouldn't have minded the price as much if the meal was excellent, but it just wasn't. I would be willing to give it another try. But I'm a bit disappointed. Maybe my expectations were too high? read more

I've driven past 100 times and always wanted to stop. My wife and I made a little date night. Joe, our waiter, was super fun and made the night really special. You feel like you are stepping back in time, dinner is an experience. We started off with a short rib egg roll, which was absolutely incredible. My wife had the chicken dish, again very delicious. I had the special which was an 8 ounce filet mignon, but got it topped with shrimp. The dessert was small, but fairly priced and so, so good! Definitely enough for two people. Fair warning, it's pricey. But it is a slow food, enjoy your evening experience. Great service, great food, character makes the price worth it, in my opinion. Closed now due to cooler temps is an outdoor patio where live music is played Thurs/Fri/Sat. Can't wait to come back and experience that as well. We need more restaurants like this! I haven't been this impressed with a restaurant in a while. The atmosphere is great. There's 3 different dining areas. We chose the upstairs as it was more private. Love the rooftop dining. Will be back in the warmer months. We started with short rib eggrolls. Highly recommend. We enjoyed the homemade spicy kimchi. I could eat a bowl of that. I ordered the roasted chicken. All the components together with the beer cheese, (the most delicious) truffle mash, and jalapeño bacon jam. It was absolutely divine. My husband ordered the tri-tip steak. He enjoyed but would get something else. That's not a cut he eats a lot. Next time we are ordering dessert. read more

I am absolutely in love with their Prewitt salad and chocolate mousse dessert. Amazingly delicious food. Their portion is huge for lunch portions. It was more than satisfying. Their customer service was great. They explained the menus well and desserts too. I went with my colleagues for a work lunch. They are family friendly and business casual too. They have few vegetarian options and great dessert options. I don't know if they have any Vegan options. Their entrance to the restaurant was really peaceful and the restaurant itself is some old theatre building that was wonderful in ambience. They have parking behind the building and you have to walk to the entrance of the restaurant for a minute. If you go on a sunny spring day, it's one of the best walks. We finally got to experience the new Prewitt restaurant in downtown Plainfield. I purposely waited a couple months after their grand opening to give them an opportunity to iron things out. First, the best part of the Prewitt is the intimate and adult atmosphere. This is perfect for a date night with a loved one. The service staff was extremely nice and attentive. We arrived at 6pm with reservations and were quickly seated. The place filled up fast. I really wanted to love the food. I was hoping for this place to be my new go to location for date night. However that will not be the case. The food was served lukewarm. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be that way or not. But I personally like my food served hot especially when it is a fried food item. The short rib egg rolls ($18) were not crispy. It had a doughy texture. I originally ordered the pork porterhouse, but was told it was sold out already. Seemed odd an item was sold out at 6pm. I ordered the duck porchetta ($36) instead and was told by our server it was the 2nd most popular item after the pork porterhouse. The presentation of the dish was spot on, but again, the texture was off. I was hoping for a crispy layer of duck skin, but instead I had bites of lukewarm greasy duck fat. My wife had the pasta dish ($34). She is the type of person who rarely complains about her food, so when she told me that her meal tasted like ordinary spaghetti I knew then I wasn't the only one who was not enjoying the meal. The bill came to $100 after taxes for the three items. I left dinner still hungry and my wife packed her leftovers. In my opinion the food simply doesn't justify the cost. read more

Food - I ordered Breakfast at Tiffany's with a side of sausage for Brunch on Sunday a little while ago. It tasted great, but the Breakfast at Tiffany's plate needs more work on the food presentation. Although the French toast looks phenomenal, the grayish plate and syrup bowl made this entire dish appear less appetizing. In addition, I wish there had been another stuffed French toast on the plate. Or, the French toast had been a larger size. I usually order french toast or waffles when I go out for breakfast/brunch, and it fills me up just fine. However, this meal did not do it for me. My friend ordered the Lox Waffle! I forgot to take a picture of it. Although I had a bite of it and thought it tasted just as great, the waffle was small. That said, I've been to the Prewitt twice now! The first time I visited, I went for dinner and had the Short Rib Egg Roll (AMAZING), the Royale with Cheese (Equally AMAZING), and the Sticky Foot. Everything tasted great! The food presentation was top-notch! But more importantly, I left The Prewitt that night rather full. TLDR on Food - I highly recommend trying The Prewitt. If you do Brunch here, skip the French toast/Waffles, and go for the Royale with Cheese. Service - The two times that I've been here, the service has been excellent! Keep it up! Ambiance - The best restaurant ambiance in Plainfield by far! My first time here, I had dinner upstairs on a Friday night. The second time, however, I had brunch downstairs in front of the stage on a Sunday afternoon. I prefer the ambiance downstairs; however, if you're grabbing dinner here on a busy/loud night, get a table upstairs! Upstairs is a little bit more intimate. Plus, it's a bit quieter upstairs. Before our table was ready, my date and I had to wait downstairs by the bar. While waiting, my date and I could barely hear each other talk! Hence, for a Friday date night when it's busy/loud, I highly recommend grabbing a table upstairs. However, if it's not as busy or loud, grab a table downstairs if you can! Final Thoughts - So glad Plainfield has The Prewitt! I usually travel to Downtown Indy or Carmel for dinner because of the limited fine dining options in Plainfield; however, I've been to The Prewitt twice now, and I can't wait to go back! Thank you! read more

Do you want a great meal in a super cool space with a relaxed vibe?? Well this is the spot. It's in an old theater on US 40 in Plainfield of all places. They use the theater theme for their menu and even had Elf playing on the screen while I dined! Didn't get an appetizer with this meal but I saw several salads come out that looked great. They give you a chefs take popcorn and butter as a snack starter which was interesting! Think I would prefer just bread though. I got the duck porchetta and my date got the chicken. The duck was phenomenal!! The plate had so much going on. The pistachio really set off the dish. If I go back I don't know how I can pull myself to stray from this absolute banger. Got bread pudding for dessert. Caramel popcorn ice cream on top was a nice touch. Great portion of pudding. As a bit of a bread pudding snob I'd rank it up with some of my favorites. I give this review as a 3.5 - music was good, popcorn chips were good and effort was there! Service was prompt and fairly good but I overheard other servers speaking of specials and ours never offered it up, had to pry. The actual ambiance is trendy, but pricing is off point for what you get. I feel it's so close to being good but it just isn't there yet. The food itself fell a little flat for us as well, my short rib was okay, I felt the star was the polenta. Husband got the special and the server said "it's pricey" which we didn't care. I can say, it was good but not $59 good. Just no real wow factor. I would say, go in knowing you'll pay $$$ and if you aren't near, not sure it's worth the trip for food. read more

Went for a movie and dinner. wonderful idea, awful execution. Not great seating set up for movie viewing. Service was slow.. waited 30 minutes for the special cocktail that they were serving for the movie, that i'm sure was pre-maid, and if it wasn't - try that next time. The popcorn was COLD, STALE, and way too SALTY. Asked for the burger to be medium, it came out WELL DONE! we asked for a drink menu but failed to receive it. decided we were tired of the crap service, so we went home to have a drink. And above all... they had issues with the audio and gave zero communication. having an issue with the audio is not a big deal - it's the lack of communication. our server only told us what the issue was because she overheard us talking about how we were wondering what was going on. And then when they finally got it working it was BLASTING.. our server then came by our table and said "at least we have sound" read more

We went to celebrate Valentine's. Overall, I'd say, good food, drinks & entertainment. We had reservations for 7:45, arrived right on time, were told it might be a few & we could go to the bar, but then she said, never mind, the table is ready. So, we were seated immediately. A waiter greeted us soon after. We ordered drinks & appetizers. It was about 25 min before apps arrived & then another 10 before drinks came. After that, service was a little slow, by American standards, but I actually appreciate a slower pace when there are multiple courses. Our server was friendly & attentive. The entertainment was great, a jazz trio. I wish that they would dim the lights so that the entertainment was more of a focal point. As it was, the lights were full bright & the crowd was pretty loud, talking over the music. It was pretty chilly & wished I'd had a sweater. The ambiance was pretty nice, reclaimed theater space with exposed brick walls, but obviously renovated with new lighting, art, & some modern finishes. It was kind of odd that they had music being piped through a sound system that was not the music being played live. So, when you go in the bathroom or when the band stopped playing you hear some totally different music. I noticed this before at another restaurant with live music & wondered why they did that. My husband had 3 different cocktails & liked them all. They didn't have any non-alcoholic cocktails on their menu. I asked & was told any of their cocktails (except 1 because it was premixed) could be made n/a. I ordered tge one I thought could be most easily modified. I was OK, kind of heavy on the soda water, because they obviously just replaced the alcohol with soda water. But then they charged me full price for it. When I asked, the waiter apologized & corrected it by marking it down from $15 to $9 which I thought was still too much for what it was. All of the food was really delicious & thoughtfully prepared & Plated, with nice garnishes & sauces. The half roasted chicken was incredibly juicy, tender, & flavorful. The sauce on the duck meatballs, was absolutely delectable (but at the same time could use some acid & heat). We will definitely go back again. I love seeing new businesses occupying spaces in small, old downtown areas. I'd never been there before & it's a very quaint place read more

Great place for a great meal! The food was on point. I honestly had a difficult time deciding on what I wanted to order. The burrata appetizer was a great twist on the typical fried mozzarella. For the mains, I settled on the swordfish and it was well cooked and great flavor. My spouse had the sirloin and it was heartily enjoyed. The cocktails are unique and well worth a try. Our server - Joe - was knowledgeable of the menu, offered suggestions for drink and wine pairings based of the entree flavor profiles, and was amazing over all! Best service we've had in a long while. Please know the prices are not typical Plainfield prices but it's not your typical Plainfield restaurant. Regardless, so worth it. I was a little concerned based on previous reviews. However, we learned that the former chef has been replaced with a new executive chef and based on the the overall vibe and experience it seems to have made all the difference. We enjoyed our time and experience so much that we went back the next day for brunch -- also well worth the visit. There a a few different dining areas to settle into - the main room is set up in the former theater space and plays movies on the new big screen. There is live music on some nights. There's a more intimate lounge upstairs, the bar area, and even outdoor rooftop dining area. It's your choice for your personal preference. Make a reservation and enjoy a wonderful date night! read more
