A small group of us wanted to try a new place during Indy's Devour, and the Prewitt was the perfect place! We originally made reservations for two, but it was early to change and update to four! They did wait until the entire party was present to seat us but we were seated timely. The inside was very unique, being an old theater. I will say the inside was so open that sounds/voices traveled, which made it a bit difficult to hear for me, as I have hearing loss, so I'm not sure I'd want to come back with a large group given my situation. Went here with a couple girlfriends for Devour last night. The food was amazing. We shared the Wagyu Corn Dogs and Buffalo Chicken Hush Puppies to start. Both had good flavor, the corn dog tasted more like a higher end polish sausage and it would have been nice to have a dipping sauce beyond the drizzle of mustard and ketchup. Same with the hush puppies. They would have benefited from a ranch or blue cheese dipping sauce, as they had a lot of filler. All still very delicious. For our entrees, they each upgraded to the NY Strip, while I did the chicken. The steak was a little grisly for the bite I had BUT that's not my preferred steak type anyway. The chicken was very tender and the truffle mash was very good. We tried the peppermint cup and peanut butter cup desserts in cute little jars. The peppermint cup was more foamy and airy than I had envisioned The peanut butter cup dessert was by far the winner. All in all, we had a great night. When The Prewitt signed up for Devour, I knew there were no more excuses to put off trying it. We have stopped in for a cocktail, but had never tried their food. SO happy we finally did. On a busy Saturday night, we were able to snag two seats at the bar upstairs (there is one upstairs and one downstairs). I absolutely love the theme of the restaurant- its very movie theater-esque and the paintings on the wall make it fun. Our bartender was so nice, on it, and paced out our meals wonderfully. The boozy Tammy cocktail is incredible- I'm a sucker for lavender drinks during the summer, and this one was perfect. For my app- I ordered the wagyu corn dogs. Now, if you're thinking the same as me, I'm wondering how corn dogs were going to be made boujee. I will confirm that corn dogs can in fact be made boujee and taste better than any one you've ever had at the state fair. They had this mustard sauce and seeds on them that sent them over the top. I would travel for these corn dogs if I didn't live in town lol. Next, I had the short rib as my meal. It was an upcharge, but 100000% worth it. Best short rib I've ever had. This place has great potential! We came in for a pre-concert dinner! It's great that they offer reservations and free parking in the garage across the street! It's the neatest old school theater turned into a nice restaurant! The food was excellent and they have some very unique things on the menu such as wagyu corn dogs! The gone with the gin cocktail was delightful! The short rib ragu was also excellent! While we enjoyed our food & cocktails, this place has got to get more staff! Our waiter was very kind and did the best he could but he was the only server in the room and every table was full! He was responsible for 10+ tables all with at least 2 people! The staff here should be working better as a team! There were plenty of times when other staff besides our server walked by that could've easily brought a water refill or cleared a plate instead of going back empty handed. They seem to need more servers, we watched 2 tables leave without ordering because our sever just simply couldn't get to them. If you're using this place as a pre-show meal before the theater across the street make sure to give yourself plenty of time or you're going to be late for your show! We have watched the Prewitt go from the place to watch movies, an empty building, and now to a thriving upscale dinning experience. It is so neat to see what it has turned into. We came for an early dinner on Friday night, and we are glad we got there early because it got busy quick!! It was nice evening so we sat on the rooftop. It is a nice seating area with a stage for live music. For our first experience, we wish we would have sat somewhere inside because there is so much to see. The food was good but the service was better. We started the meal with wagyu corn dogs. Amazing. I could eat those all the time. A classy upscale corn dog. My lady had the steak and I had the quarter-chicken. Everything was so good. The drinks were great too, and some of them had fun names that related to movies. It is more expensive than a regular chain restaurant, but that isn't what they are trying to be. For us, this is a special occasion place to celebrate. Finally made it to The Prewitt in Plainfield! This is super close to where I live so I am happy to say I LOVED IT. The vibes are so unique since it is an old theater. I will say for being a building and space that was recreated to be a restaurant, I am so impressed. The atmosphere was very modern and high class. We dined at the Prewitt last weekend and really enjoyed it! I couldn't resist having the filet and my partner in crime had the salmon. Both were perfectly prepared and gone too soon. Empire Strikes Back was playing on the big screen when we arrived (Yay!) and before we left, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull had started. The Prewitt was what came out, and after a quick review of what others thought, we threw caution to the wind and cruised over for an adventure. I must say that it was a high quality trip! The Prewitt is a combination restaurant and theater, and the feature was "Wicked" and the house was packed. It did slow the kitchen a bit, and the bartender (Abbie) was in the weeds for a bit, but she handled with grace. We had cocktails before ordering a shareable Short Rib Eggroll that was delicious. We then ordered from the handheld menu section and the items were delicious. The double smash burger was great, plus the duck fries are a must. The raspberry flatbread was sweet, but very tasty. I've driven past 100 times and always wanted to stop. My wife and I made a little date night. Joe, our waiter, was super fun and made the night really special. You feel like you are stepping back in time, dinner is an experience. We started off with a short rib egg roll, which was absolutely incredible. My wife had the chicken dish, again very delicious. I had the special which was an 8 ounce filet mignon, but got it topped with shrimp. The dessert was small, but fairly priced and so, so good! Definitely enough for two people. They have few vegetarian options and great dessert options. I don't know if they have any Vegan options. We finally got to experience the new Prewitt restaurant in downtown Plainfield. I purposely waited a couple months after their grand opening to give them an opportunity to iron things out. First, the best part of the Prewitt is the intimate and adult atmosphere. This is perfect for a date night with a loved one. The service staff was extremely nice and attentive. We arrived at 6pm with reservations and were quickly seated. The place filled up fast. I really wanted to love the food. I was hoping for this place to be my new go to location for date night. However that will not be the case. The food was served lukewarm. I'm not sure if it is supposed to be that way or not. But I personally like my food served hot especially when it is a fried food item. The short rib egg rolls ($18) were not crispy. It had a doughy texture. I originally ordered the pork porterhouse, but was told it was sold out already. Seemed odd an item was sold out at 6pm. I ordered the duck porchetta ($36) instead and was told by our server it was the 2nd most popular item after the pork porterhouse. The presentation of the dish was spot on, but again, the texture was off. I was hoping for a crispy layer of duck skin, but instead I had bites of lukewarm greasy duck fat. My wife had the pasta dish ($34). She is the type of person who rarely complains about her food, so when she told me that her meal tasted like ordinary spaghetti I knew then I wasn't the only one who was not enjoying the meal. They use the theater theme for their menu and even had Elf playing on the screen while I dined! Didn't get an appetizer with this meal but I saw several salads come out that looked great. They give you a chefs take popcorn and butter as a snack starter which was interesting! Think I would prefer just bread though. I got the duck porchetta and my date got the chicken. The duck was phenomenal!! The plate had so much going on. The pistachio really set off the dish. If I go back I don't know how I can pull myself to stray from this absolute banger. As it was, the lights were full bright & the crowd was pretty loud, talking over the music. It was pretty chilly & wished I'd had a sweater. The ambiance was pretty nice, reclaimed theater space with exposed brick walls, but obviously renovated with new lighting, art, & some modern finishes. It was kind of odd that they had music being piped through a sound system that was not the music being played live. So, when you go in the bathroom or when the band stopped playing you hear some totally different music. I noticed this before at another restaurant with live music & wondered why they did that. My husband had 3 different cocktails & liked them all. They didn't have any non-alcoholic cocktails on their menu. I asked & was told any of their cocktails (except 1 because it was premixed) could be made n/a. I ordered tge one I thought could be most easily modified. I was OK, kind of heavy on the soda water, because they obviously just replaced the alcohol with soda water. But then they charged me full price for it. When I asked, the waiter apologized & corrected it by marking it down from $15 to $9 which I thought was still too much for what it was. Great place for a great meal! The food was on point. I honestly had a difficult time deciding on what I wanted to order. The burrata appetizer was a great twist on the typical fried mozzarella. Our server - Joe - was knowledgeable of the menu, offered suggestions for drink and wine pairings based of the entree flavor profiles, and was amazing over all! Best service we've had in a long while. Please know the prices are not typical Plainfield prices but it's not your typical Plainfield restaurant. Regardless, so worth it. I was a little concerned based on previous reviews. However, we learned that the former chef has been replaced with a new executive chef and based on the the overall vibe and experience it seems to have made all the difference. We enjoyed our time and experience so much that we went back the next day for brunch -- also well worth the visit. There a a few different dining areas to settle into - the main room is set up in the former theater space and plays movies on the new big screen. There is live music on some nights.
