Rick's is a very popular restaurant because of the water views and abundance of seafood. I went with a group of my husband's colleagues since they were here from out of town. Everyone enjoyed the libations as well as their dinner. It was a pricey meal but well worth it.

This is the first time I've been to Rick's in a while and it didn't disappoint. We met our two friends and their young daughter for dinner. They were so nice and brought out a 'fancy' drink for her to enjoy. (Sprite, grenadine and a cherry) The waitress was so nice and the food came out quickly. So good!

Met a group of friends for dinner, a party of 20. Our server was great getting our drinks and food orders going, she was quick and attentive for us all. We ordered the Calamari appetizer which is a 5 star always, so tender, and good. The rest of the food was not great for me. I ordered the crab stuffed Orange Roughy. It was very strong and I had a hard time eating it. The mashed potatoes and asparagus were ok, so I focused on that. I really have a hard time with Ricks as the food can be a hit or miss. Hubs liked his grilled tenderloin sandwich.

Food is always pretty good. We come here often for after-work drinks and appetizers! With a big group, we got to try a lot of things. Service was pretty good, especially with the size of our group!

This place never disappoints and it's such a great location to meet up with friends and family. Our server Katie was attentive and friendly. I tried something new tonight and ordered the short rib grilled cheese and a side of collard greens. Both were delicious and I brought home enough for lunch the next day. My espresso martini was prepared just right and good to the last drop. We always order a Rico's dip for the table and it was good as usual and plenty enough for six people to share. We also had an appetizer special that was yummy. It was crab balls with some other seasonings and remoulade sauce. We're hoping they'll add it to the regular menu. Be sure to save enough room for one of their fantastic desserts.

The food, drinks have been consistently good. However, we made a reservation and they had some issues with OpenTable that night. We waited at least 45 minutes to get our table. The host told us that we can get a free appetizer, which they do follow through with. We were just disappointed for the wait since we had made a reservation.

I went to Rick's for lunch. We were seated rather quickly. Our server was pleasant and took our orders promptly. Everything came out as ordered but the Lobster was cooked so poorly that I could no longer eat it after 2 bites. I let the server know and he literally had no response, awkwardly stood there, and then walked away. It's disappointing to only be able to enjoy the sides from the meal and not the entire entree. It felt very wasteful from a cost & time perspective. Please listen to your consumers concerns when they share them as it's impactful to the dining experience.

Great place to go for the night. good cocktail menu and bourbon options. The food is definitely hit or miss. Sometimes it is really good and other times it's just ok. Either way it is a pretty place to go and have a drink.

Very good salad! Basic steak but the rest was really nice. Friendly service. It was a nice day so liked being able to sit outside.

Great food and great water views on the patio. We ordered grilled fisherman's catch - which had grilled salmon, scallops, shrimp and half lobster tail with coconut rice, and also ordered Mahi Mahi on soba noodles - both dishes were unique, well-presented and delicious! In dessert we had the Mudd pie which was unexpectedly a huge piece, can easily serve more than 2 people! The food was delicious and the serving sizes are huge! I recommend this place if you want to eat with a waterfront view and a little away from the hustle of Indy!

My wife and I have noticed in recent months the high caliber of service received at area restaurants. It seems to be a trend that we most definitely welcome. Such was the case Sunday evening at Rick's Cafe Boatyard with our Gold Medal server, Katie. Our party of six could not have been taken better care of. From cocktails, appetizers, and entrees, the party members were constantly whose bill would be charged for what. THAT HAPPENS SHEN FAMILIES GET TOGETHER. She did not miss a single item. Her personality and knowledge was exceptional. Specifically, Katie suggested an appetizer special of the night that was absolutely amazing. The food is always great but a new chef had noticeably tweaked the recipe for the shrimp and scallop linguine that is easily one of the most enjoyable seafood/pasta dishes I have ever tasted. LORDY, it was so so good. The manager graciously came by and made sure our experience was great and thanked us for dining with them. Of course, we had to brag about Katie and her excellent service. The cocktails were great, the appetizers were amazing and the service was top notch. It made a three hour evening with family memorable. Thank you.

This Mahi Mahi was to die for! Definitely the best I have ever had in Indiana! It sat on a bed of soba noodles and had Asian sauce and vegetables. Delicious ! My boyfriend had the five pepper Alfredo. It was also good but not as good as the Mahi. There is a reason that dish had the restaurant favorite sign on it. This restaurant sat on a beautiful lake with a nice view. The biggest downside is we sat on the patio and it was VERY loud. Lots of background noise. You couldn't hear everyone at your table. This would've downgraded my review except my meal was that good!

Ask the Community - Rick's Café Boatyard

We want to check this place out, but we have two young kids and can't easily find sitters. Is it somewhere that is ok to bring kids?

As long as you don't let them run wild and keep them under control, there's no reason that you can't bring them!

Do the brunch and main menu overlap or is it just brunch menu on Sundays until brunch hours are over?

I know for Thanksgiving they had the traditional turkey dinner with the trimmings and dessert but some of our group were able to order off their menu; the brunch I am not sure. Give them a call and ask them. Food is great and plentiful. There… Read more

Do they have Oysters Rockefeller on the menu here ? On Open Table it does not list them, but I've seen them reviewed on here and mentioned

I was there a couple months ago and posted photos of the menu and I do not see them listed. They may have a special occasionally where they make them.

Are dogs allowed on the patio?

I really don't think so the way the business is set up.

    Do they take reservations?

Yes - they take them over the phone or on the Open Table app.

    Are there daily drink specials?

Yes, varies day to day. Give them a call when you plan on going and they can tell you what's on special.

What are the dress requirements for Rick's? Is it casual?

We were there for lunch and shorts and jeans wrere perfect. It is not fancy outside on the deck...I would say evenings indoors could be dressier OR not. Very informal vibe.

    What hours are they open?

According to their website they have summer hours (5/1) & winter hours (10/1). Summer: Mon-Thurs 11am to 11pm… Read more

The lobster roll was soggy and honestly? Too much. I prefer a classic lobster roll - warm, lobster, bread that still has a little crunch to it (just the tiniest bit), butter - but not too much. This was soggy and the celery situation took away from the essence of a lobster roll for me. I've never liked the lobster salad rolls, and I did make sure there would be no mayo - but I think this was a bit much. Too much butter. Too many toppings. The flavor wasn't amazing. My dad really liked the perch. So much that he didn't let me try it. Lol but it looked good! The fried okra was solid. Kinda hard to mess that up, so no complaints there. Same thing with the fish tacos as the lobster roll. They're very busy. I like tasting my food - not piling the toppings on so things get lost. So, I scraped pretty much everything off. The fish was good! I got my mom the fried oysters. No complaints. Her meal came with two sides, so I got greens and Mac and cheese. I didnt try the Mac, but they said the greens were top tier. They had a nice flavor, but they're spicy - so avoid them if you can't deal with a lot of spice - probably red pepper. They threw in a crab cake for free and I thought that was really sweet of them. I didn't like the way it looked on the inside, so I only nibbled at it. Definitely not what this Maryland girl is used to... the winner is still Commisson Row on crab cakes in Indy so far. Anyway! Cute little tucked away spot, small parking lot, but spacious inside. Quite a few tables and chairs and fresh seafood in the cases. I'd go again and try some different things based on other reviews.

Now, to be entirely candid, the building itself looks a touch weathered at first glance but once you step inside, the décor is absolutely flawless. Being from Orange County, I have been on an absolute crusade to find genuinely authentic, coastal-caliber seafood since arriving here, and let me tell you, the search is officially over! The arrival was completely seamless, thanks to a sweet little dedicated parking lot, and the exterior of the venue is just as cute as a button. The moment I crossed the threshold, the lovely cashier greeted me with the warmest energy and elegantly walked me through the day's catch. What truly blew me away and frankly, brought a little tear to my eye was the sheer depth of knowledge and passion they share about their sourcing. They explained exactly where the fish came from and how it was caught with such beautiful, undivided commitment. That level of bespoke service is precisely what turns a first-time guest into a lifelong devotee. I opted for a Fish Taco prepared with a brilliantly unsalted catch, and it was an absolute revelation. The fish was incredibly soft, delicate, and practically melted in my mouthnot a hint of chewiness in sight. It was simply bursting with that clean, ocean-fresh flavor. A flawless, five-star experience across the board for the taste, the charm, and the beautiful soul of this place. I shall most certainly be making this a regular stop on my lunch rounds!

We ordered the lobster hoagie and hush puppies. Both were... fine. Not bad, but nothing that wowed us or justified the anticipation. The flavors were there in a basic sense, but it all felt a little underwhelming for a spot that's billing itself as a seafood destination. What really got me was the market side of things. The seafood on display just looked sad not fresh, not vibrant, not the kind of stuff that makes you want to throw something in a bag and take it home to cook. I fully understand we're landlocked in Indiana and truly fresh seafood is a challenge, but if that's your entire concept, the product has to be able to hold its own. Left feeling more disappointed than anything. I so wanted to love this place and will be rooting for them to level up but for now, this Florida girl will keep searching.
