All week I've been wanting to get this sweet cream pancake. I did no see anywhere that it's closing early i did not see any notice of changing hours and I get there and it's closed. People are still in there but everything's closing down. Gosh I'm so disappointed. We had not eaten at this restaurant since Butler. We decided to give it a go and were very pleased. The menu is geared towards lumber jack food. Everyone in the restaurant looked ready for "big food". The diner served it We we greeted immediately and coffee was served. The dining area was spotless and cleaned immediately as someone got up. It is comfortable to sit as long as you wish and the coffee flows I had an egg bowl. Two eggs prepared beautifully on top of sausage gravy, friend potato, cheese and sausage. Yum Too big for me to eat. I about 1/4 at most. I wanted to eat more, just too full. My husband had chicken fried steak, eggs, grits or potato and toast. He ate it all. He loves lumberjack food! She apologized and had a fresh plate delivered to my table in minutes. The pancakes were probably the best I've ever had. The outside had a perfect crunch while the inside was super fluffy. Pretty, pretty, pretty good breakfast place. With a very unassuming and unpretentious on both the inside and the outside, with very hard-working staff, we still had a very solid experience. We were impressed with the variety of choices that the menu offered, we had a really hard time choosing our meals. Shoutout to the people I was with who agreed to quasi share all our meals. I really liked the corned beef hash I got, and the Bill's Breakfast my friend (not named Bill) got. My husband got the chicken and waffles with the h it honey upgrade. This was the weakest of the dishes, and the honey was just mixed with hot sauce. We still ate and enjoyed it though. Overall, this was a surprisingly good experience. Not even sure we knew this place existed before today. Doing brunch with good friends today and they came up with Keystone Diner. Not sure if there was a wait or not since our friends were seated when we got there. There was definitely a wait later. Food was kinda your typical Diner fair, which done right is great. Our server was friendly and drinks and refills were always there. Food didn't take long to get and I loved the open kitchen. Food ordered was: Earls Simple Breakfast ( Bacon, Two eggs, biscuit and Added a side of gravy ) Breakfast Bowl ( Hash browns, onions and sausage topped with 2 scrambled eggs then smothered with sausage gravy and shredded cheddar, w toast) Build Your Own Omelet ( ham, bacon, sausage and cheddar cheese) and Eggs Benedict with country ham. It's amazing! Completely made in house and is fantastic! My eggs were perfect and the sausage gravy, made in house and is amazing! The cinnamon apples were sweet and palate cleansing and my coffee cup never ran dry. The diner is dated, cozy, and it's loud with happy chatter amongst patrons; many who were greeting each other from tables and quickly breaking into "It's so nice to run into you." This is a great, down home soul food spot in SoBro just West of Keystone in 53rd Street, in the South Keystone Shopping Center. The picture of MLK & JFK greet you as you walk in and the aroma of bacon cooking on the flattop as well as the pancakes & waffles fill the air. Food is simple but really good, and the portions are huge. You will not go away hungry. Service is busy but efficient and the prices are reasonable. The kitchen is open to the dining room. The coffee is good and served in real coffee mugs. We enjoyed No. 3 Earl's Simple Breakfast with your choice of eggs, meat and bread. The eggs are cooked to perfection with very generous meat portions. (Dieters beware.). Make sure you choose the homemade biscuits for your bread. Seating is normally self serve. Disappointing... Owners are very confrontational if you answer "How was everything?", honestly. Food isn't like it was under the previous owner. The quality and flavor is not like it was. Not sure what they did to the sausage gravy?! The staff can also be confrontational and in front of the owner, perhaps it's learned behavior? Sadly, it's accepted behavior. I have fond memories of when it was The Deli! Early Saturday morning breakfast, before a day of yard-work or a day in front of the fireplace as the snow fell outside my window was how my weekend always began. The owner was kind and gracious! After about six weeks of mainly being stuck in my home following hospitalization and surgery, I was overjoyed to be able to write a Yelp review that wasn't related to my healthcare experiences. Fellow Yelp Elite Rick G. and I decided to get together for lunch. While I'm not able to drive yet, I'm able to get out and benefit from learning how to transfer and function in different community settings. I was pretty clear that I wanted to snag a Yelp review, while Rick hoped to snag a tenderloin review for his tenderloin blog and also a Yelp review. We briefly discussed the new Chatham Tap location at Butler, but then realized that neither of us had been to Keystone Diner, at least not since it changed from its former owner. As they have a hand-breaded tenderloin on their menu, both Rick and I were happy. Keystone Diner is located in the retail center at 52nd and Keystone. It's a pretty run-down strip center. This can be a bit of a rough area, but generally, I've found it fine during the day. Keystone Diner is open daily until 2 pm - so it's basically a breakfast/lunch joint. We arrived just prior to 11:30 am. They were busy, but I'm guessing not more than about 1/3 full. There's no immediately adjacent accessible parking, though with multiple vacancies in the strip center it's not too difficult to find a decent place. The curb was level to the ground. They do have a double-entry, yet the doors open in opposite directions. It's not ideal, but neither door is too heavy. So, it works. It looked like from signage that sometimes there's someone to seat you, while others they have a "please seat yourself" sign up. If you've ordered or are ordering for carry-out, you go to the back and there's a counter where you order and pay. Even if you dine in, you pay at the counter in the back that is clearly marked. Rick G. remarked that the atmosphere, which was warm and comfy, felt very "Tennessee." The servers all use "honey" and "babe" freely, though it's in a natural, rather endearing way that I adored. I think they used "honey" as much as Chick-fil-A says "My pleasure." Rick ordered the breaded tenderloin sandwich with fries and a drink. The breaded tenderloin was delivered as ordered. He said it was good, not great. The fries looked like steak fries and I eyed them lustfully. I decided to have breakfast - I've missed a really good breakfast since being stuck at home (I don't cook). I ordered French Toast (3 slices) that comes with 2 eggs (I skipped them), a meat of your choice (I chose 2 sausage patties), and fried potatoes. I ordered my usual unsweetened iced tea. The French Toast was a delight - it was a nice balance between the decadent stuff that I think is overdoing it and the usual diner French Toast. I really liked it and would easily order it again. The fried potatoes? Amazing. I was really craving fried potatoes and was so happy. On the flip side, the sausage patties seemed a touch over-cooked and were barely warm. I did receive my always desired iced tea refill. The service was stellar from beginning to end. While I know some hate the familiarity that goes with "honey," this wasn't manufactured. It was genuine and delightful. Both Rick and I appreciated the atmosphere. It was simple yet comfortable. It very much felt like a smalltown diner. It was also quite warm, which pleased the always cold Rick! We socialized a bit with other customers - always a good sign. This was practically the definition of a solid 4-star experience. The food was quite good and fairly priced. The service was top-notch. The atmosphere was genuinely relaxing. It allowed us to really relax, enjoy our meal, and enjoy our conversation. We both agreed we'd easily return and plan to do so in the future. He plans to try breakfast, while I'm planning to try a burger and those awesome looking fries. While I'm not yet driving, I'm able to get out if someone else drives. I'm hoping this is the start of a trend as I've missed getting out, missed people, missed Yelp reviews (other than health), and just plain missed being active. I don't know how many times I drove by this diner when I lived in Broad Ripple. Found this local greasy spoon and loved my visit. Great service from the waitress. She was the only wait staff but her hustle made us feel like we had our own server. Solid menu with something for everyone. We ordered a Belgium waffle with scrambled eggs, bacon and home fries. The omelet was a good portion and came with home fries and toast. Quality coffee and a clean table with all the sides you need (ketchup, hot sauce, jelly, butter, creamer, sugar, etc). Was impressed with the giant actual hunks of corned beef in the corned beef hash, as lots of places have a more mashed version. Also tried the waffles- the ENTIRE restaurant was filled with the delicious aroma when they put the batter on the waffle iron. For that reason alone I will forever add a waffle to my dish! Keystone Diner is located on the north side of Keystone Plaza just off Keystone Avenue at 53rd Street on the Indianapolis northside. I'd heard a few good things about the Diner and so yesterday morning at about 9:30 I paid a visit. There is abundant convenient parking available directly in front of the Diner in the Plaza lot. The interior is one roomy square space with seating for approximately ninety diners at attractive country-kitchen style tables and chairs. The south wall consists of the entry way and large windows looking out to the parking lot, the north wall is open to the kitchen. During my visit the overall area was quite clean, the noise level was comfortably low, and the lighting was bright without being glaring. A sign at the door instructs customers to seat themselves and when I did the server was almost immediately to my table to greet me in a welcoming manner and present me with a menu. While quite cordial she did not offer her name nor was she wearing a visible name tag. At the end of my visit I did see her identified on the receipt as Debra E. She was apparently the only individual working front of house. I asked for coffee and Debra promptly brought it and then left me to peruse the bountiful menu. It included a long list of breakfast dishes, sandwiches and burgers, salads, an assortment of ala carte choices and sides, and a kids menu. I selected the eggs benedict, which came with home fries, and a half order of buttermilk biscuits with "made from scratch" sausage gravy. It was all brought out in a timely fashion. None of the food as it arrived at my table was more than warm and some--the potatoes for instance--were room temperature at best. At that, none of it was especially flavorful and the poached eggs in particular were over-cooked being hard all the way through. It was all especially disappointing in that up until then mine had been a pleasant experience. With the always satisfying Good Morning Mama's Cafe just blocks away, I don't see myself returning to Keystone Diner. read more
