Two other tables come in and seats them self the owner goes from table to table does not acknowledge us BECAUSE my husband voiced his opinion wasnt rude mean are disrespectful. it was even police officers present she got mad and disrespectful so my husband ask for the manager she says to my husband im the owner!! Located in the space of the former Keystone Deli, the Keystone Diner is decidedly UN deli-ish. As a matter of fact, it remided me of stepping into a diner in East Tenneessee in the 60's. It's obvious they have a very loyal clientele, as the waitresses seemed to know just about everyone by name. I was having lunch with my dear friend Richard P (a fellow Yelp Elite) and it was the first time either of us had been there. Lots of diner-sih decor on the walls, and the servers were heavy on the "honey" and "babe" when talking to customers. Here's the thing. I can't stand that when it appears put on. Here, it was sincere. Everyone was treated as a treasured family member. I chose the breaded tenderloin (you're surprised, right??). It was a good breaded tenderloin, but not stellar. I liked the breading, but it could've used a little more seasoning, and it was a bit unevenly cooked. Not terribly so, but enough I can't call it stellar. Hey, I'm picky about my tenderloins, OK? The steak fries were done to perfection. Richard chose breakfast and it looked fantastic. I think a 4 star rating is a good balance between decent food and exceptional service. Reminds me of a small diner located in the heart of a small town. We've been here twice and have been happy with our meals. The diner itself has an local feel with tables covered in the vinyl gingham style tablecloth. The waitresses are super nice, service is quick, and prices are right. They cook their bacon perfectly. The sausage is a little bland. Eggs are good. The french toast was awesome. I'm looking forward to trying their pancakes the next time we are in. To be honest, I had planned on going to breakfast at another restaurant but after hearing the wait time, we headed over to Keystone Diner where we were sat within a few minutes. The first thing I noticed was the owner greeting all the tables, helping bus them, and generally making sure the environment was positive. After our server took our order, it felt like only a few minutes before our food was out! Service was amazing and super fast. The food was DELICIOUS. This is a great north Indy diner. Stuck in a strip mall and easy to miss if your not looking for it. Seems to have a consistent local following. I hit it on two mornings in a row right after opening and had a hot breakfast and good service. Brewed iced tea. No hash browns but the dreaded breakfast potatoes. Excellent staff, very friendly both mornings but also stayed out of my face. I had consistently cooked hot breakfast both days and though I did not try it they advertised blueberry pancakes and strawberry waffles which looked good. read more

This is the place to come if you have a awesome traditional breakfast in a totally unpretentious location. The place is simple and sometimes simple is best! The large dining room is always filled with every type of person enjoying their meal. The prep line is open to the dining room so you can watch the cook handle the non stop shuffle of preparing multiple orders at the same time. The pancakes a light fluffy and huge! Food was great however, treated very poorly, I asked about a charge on the bill and was told "well nothing is free." Then the cook inserted herself and began arguing back and forth about the tip I left the waitress which we gave her 15% until we could get the charge settled. The principle is I have the right to question a charge on the bill that was not conveyed to us. How the mother handled the situation was very unprofessional and to have her daughter going back and forth was tasteless. Money isn't an issue. I wanted the staff to be aware that it should be conveyed about extra charges either on the menu or verbally stated. Several of them attacked us about me mentioning the charge because "it's only a $1.50." Won't be dining again. read more

Biscuit warning! Do not attempt to eat the biscuits without a beverage, you will fail! This place has to have the best ranking for my price+quality=value equation for a breakfast spot. The food is delicious, and the price is perfect! The only thing I would say you need to watch out for is it is a mom-and-pop restaurants, so understand that service can't be slow at times when it is busy. The pancake have to be the best pancakes. I can't believe I've been to this plaza multiple times and never noticed this place. My friends and I decided to come here to try the food after hearing someone say how good it was. We came here on a Saturday for brunch. This place is between the clothing store rainbow and a barbershop. When we arrived the place was packed but there was a table in the back available. The waitress sat us there and told us about the menu and specials. The place is small so the tables are pretty close. We ordered our drinks as we waited on one more from our group to show up. Once she got there we all ordered. I got the sweet cream pancakes and potatoes. I forgot the actual name of the potatoes, but they were so good and had a crunchy taste to them. My friend's got French toast with scrambled eggs and bacon. First let me say the pancakes are so good! The creamy batter is something I've never had before. The pancakes are large you get 2 big ones and I could barely finish one. I also love that they give everyone a personal mini syrup bottle or container whatever you want to call it. The service was really good and quick. We did not have any issues. Once they give you the check you have to take it up to the register at the back of the diner to pay. It reminds me of a much better waffle house. The only thing I wish they had was more turkey or chicken based meats for people who do not eat pork. The sausage and bacon are all pork products. Besides that I would recommend this place to others. If you have a party larger than 4 I would not recommend based off the size of the diner and how close the tables are. They may be able to accompany larger parties but I would definitely call and ask. This place has nonstop traffic. The food is good! read more

I've been in Indy for almost two months now and after the variety of food found in Chicago, my last location and NYC, my hometown, I'm a bit of a dining snob. I don't hesitate to send things back, complain about incompetent staff or leave an establishment if it's not up to par. On the flip side I'm one of the first to praise wait-staff to management and ask to be sated in a specific server's section so it's clear that they're exceptional. I truly believe that eating out is a luxury and if I'm paying for food it should be exactly how I want it. I also believe that wait staff earns the tip. While I do automatically calculate a minimum of 15% for adequate service, if the service is sub par it can and does go down from there. All of that being said, the Deli is one of the best down home eateries I have EVER patronized. The service both times I've gone has been way above par, the servers obviously knew what they were doing, didn't balk at special requests and were attentive without being obsequious. This last time there was a family of nine in just before we arrived, as a result one of the two waitresses was understandably occupied and the kitchen was dealing with special requests out the wazoo. Our waitress checked on us multiple times to assure us our order was in, provided us with the things she could provide us with and made sure we were comfortable waiting. She kept us apprised of the situation and made the wait of little to know consequence as a result. THAT'S excellent table-side service. The food as has been previously mentioned is soooo good. Both times we've ordered the Country boy Special Double meat which is either a NY Strip Steak or 2 pork chops with all the fixins and when they say all they mean ALL. Grits, biscuits and gravy, hash browns and fried apples, plus two eggs cooked how you like them. All for under $10 and with portions so sizable one order covers three plates. I ate myself silly and still had enough left to bring home to my brother and he didn't realize it wasn't a full order. The Deli has topped my list of comfortable, beyond reasonably priced dining establishments and is definitely a place to take the fam when the come to visit. read more

The food is quick and can be tasty but it can also be old and dry. My best recommendation is to go there in the am and never order from their pre-made lunch selections as you will be sorely disappointed. Their $3.95 grilled egg sandwich is a favorite. Fried egg, cheese, choice of meat on a grilled bread. Not a health choice but a tasty one! The Keystone Deli (just called "DELI" on the building itself outside) is my favorite hole-in-the-wall, greasy spoon type of place to go. Period. The staff is helpful, referring to everyone as "hun," regardless of age or gender and they do an awesome job at everything from refilling drinks to making suggestions about the menu. Everything (yes, everything) is made from scratch. I was informed last time that their head server just retired after 28 some odd years. Who knew this had been here this long? Every time I go I order a "Sampler." Don't let the name fool you, there is no sliver of ham and two potato chunks here. You get three (yes three!!) huge plates of food. You get 3 pancakes, grits (or oatmeal), fried apples, ham, sausage (or bacon), 2 eggs and hash browns (or country potatoes) all for a mind-blowing price of $8.99. Are you kidding me?! They also offer cafeteria style offerings that rage (depending on the day) from fried catfish, greens, macaroni and cheese, mashed potatoes, liver and onions, green beans, etc. In short, you need to come here, now. Don't expect the silverware to match, the decor to be award winning or the food anything but simple, home cooked comfort food. A real winner in my book! read more

Little more than a month later from my review saying not much has changed...well that is no longer the case. The have generic jellies and the bacon has changed. Gone is the thick cut bacon and now they serve thin substandard bacon. Disappointing change of events for this greasy spoon. We will continue to go there just not as often as in the past.
