I didn't know about place, but on my way home back from Broad Ripple I found it. I love trying breakfast places that are not a chain, so I decided to get something here. The building at a busy intersection and it isn't big. It had New York City themed decor inside. The menu had a variety. I chose ham omelette with hash brown patties w/ toasts. It took about ten minutes. It was for take out and they put everything in one container which I liked (instead of putting each item in individual container creating more waste) The omelette had a lot of cheese inside and was yummy. A bit disappointing; not as good as the other Latin Breakfast places I've tried around town. The place seemed clean. I was the only one in there at 9:30 am. Extra charge to pay with anything but cash. A step up from a McDonalds breakfast but skip the French Toast. Either the toast itself or the syrup had a vanilla sweet artificial taste. I want to love this place as it is very close to home. The food was good and the service was as well. The biggest downside is the cost. These are New York prices for Midwest meals. 18 dollars for French toast, 2 eggs, 2 pieces of bacon and a cup of coffee. I've passed by this place a few times and thought I'd drop in, it was a quick meal while running errands. Service was friendly but communicating my order was rough because there was a language barrier. She ended up getting my order wrong and had to re-take the order and that part did take some time. I ordered the veggie omelette plate with toast, hash browns and Turkey sausage. The hash browns and sausage were overcooked and the omelette was just okay. My work besties and I stopped here at the beginning of the month for our once-a-week "lunch tour" as we call it. It was my birthday week, so I got to pick where we went and I chose New York Breakfast because I much prefer breakfast over lunch, it was in an area we had never visited together, and we didn't have to pay for parking. When we got there, there was only one other woman waiting for a to-go order, so we looked over the menu and were able to order pretty quickly. I got the French toast combo breakfast with bacon and over-easy eggs. One friend got the Michigan Road Omelette without avocado and subbed mushrooms after they said that only 3 of their omelettes came with cheese. My last friend also got a Michigan Road Omelette and subbed the avocado for onions or tomatoes (can't remember which). I had also gotten a coffee and it was filled only 3 times during our 2 hour stay, which was frustrating. Waters were not ever refilled. And it wasn't because they were busy- we were the only people there the duration of our stay after the woman got her to-go order and left. The mushrooms in the omelette were very slimy and had to be picked out and the food was just overall very bland. I had almost ordered chilaquiles because I get that everywhere that has it on the menu, but since it was my birthday week I decided to get French toast and ended up wishing I hadn't. I'm thinking that they must have better food for lunch vs breakfast because you can get better breakfast/diner fare at a Waffle House. The inside was clean, but very cold because of all the glass windows right next to the tables. Decorations are just touristy New York prints and wall art that didn't make me feel like I was in a New York diner at all. We all felt it was weird to be the only customers there from late morning to early afternoon when they are only open 7-2:30. Maybe they get a morning rush of customers on their way to work? Contemplated giving only 3 stars, but staff were nice and I think I would still come back to try the chilaquiles or something from their lunch menu to give it another chance. read more

While this little cafe is filled with New York decor, the food is definitely midwestern with hints of Mexican. We stopped in for a late breakfast. Several regulars were waiting for to-go orders. We ordered and paid at a counter surrounded by replicas of the Statue of Liberty. The clerk was friendly and accommodating. I wanted a breakfast burrito, which wasn't on the menu and she said sure. Then we found a seat. The dining room is clean with a tv monitor. Prints of iconic New York sites fill the walls. My husband had an omelette. The omelettes are not traditional light and fluffy, but large flat with lots of cheese, typical of New York. The toast came with assorted jellies. The hash brown potatoes were cooked pretty crispy. The meal was large for the price. My burrito was made on a whole wheat wrapper per my request. The burrito was large filled with egg, potatoes and sausage. In retrospect, I wish I had requested bacon and cheese. Nevertheless, good burrito (I took half home for another meal). There is plenty of parking in the private lot. Exiting north onto Michigan Road was challenging, like a game of Frogger. All in all, great breakfast that doesn't break the bank. read more

Very good family ran business. We were asked if we were dining in or to go. We were dining in. They had us pick a seat and they took our order at the table. Teas were refilled and the food was very good. I got the pancake breakfast with 2 pancakes , 2 eggs scrambled and bacon. The pancakes were fluffy and had a slight cinnamon flavor. Bacon was well cooked and the scrambled eggs were good. Husband got the FrenchToast breakfast with eggs fried and bacon. He really liked it all. Interior was clean and the decor was minimal. What they had was a nod to NY City. Parking is ample off Michigan Rd. Handicapped accessible ramp in the middle of the small plaza with 2 handicapped parking spots. We will be back. Have had breakfast twice and both times hit the mark. Its small and cozy inside. When you enter it was obvious to walk up to the counter to order. They have printed menus which i like vs a menu board. I didn't take a photo of the menu but from memory they have the typical breakfast favs: omellettes, pancakes, waffle, french toast. The first time I went with the mexican classic chilquiles.. they even let me do half red sauce and half green. They suggest you add an egg or chicken.. so I went with chicken. Very tasty. Hubby had some sort of breakfast platter (don't exactly remember the name) he had eggs, home fries, bacon and toast. He was happy with it all. I'm very picky about pancakes and these were perfect. My eggs were cooked perfectly to my order. The breakfast potatoes were wonderful too. French toast was very good as well. My friend enjoyed her veggie wrap. Everything was made fresh with quality ingredients. The restaurant is very attractive, with tables and booths, and a few high tops. Fantastic little spot for a no frills yummy breakfast!! Highly recommend the golden pancakes. I'm super picky and these were light and fluffy with plenty of flavor. Im also picky about my coffee and there's was worthy of the New York name (where you can go to any corner store and get a great cup of coffee). For my order I stuck with the basics...eggs, bacon and hash browns with a pancake ala carte. Added sliced avocado since I saw that was an option on omelettes. You order at the counter and then sit. I was really looking forward to checking out a new breakfast spot, unfortunately it was rather disappointing. I generally don't care much having to order at the counter, pay and tip before I get any service. So I stand at the counter trying to make a quick decision since the menu does have a lot of options. I decided on some coffee and a bacon omelet platter. I have to say the coffee was great and someone came from behind the counter to refill it occasionally. The platter consisted of the flattest omelet I have ever seen. There was some bacon bits in it and you could see the square slice of cheese stuck into the fold of the omelet. If the entire thing was 1/4 inch high I'd be surprised. Tasted meh at best. I chose fried potatoes, probably should have gone with the hash browns. So the potatoes are the small cubed kind, which I like. However, most were still raw on the inside and were coated with some sort of tomato based sauce. Not really saucy, but definitely coated, yet still dry and fairly tasteless. You get a choice of white or wheat toast. Mine was very dark, borderline burned and had to ask a few times for jelly to go with it. Ambiance not so much. It could be cute, but when you consider the rolled up carpet standing next to the entrance, the fake plants with the price tags still attached to them and the stacked patio furniture in the corner by the bathroom... it's a no for me. The prices would be ok for good food, but this experience just wasn't worth it. read more

So happy to see a restaurant pop up close to home! New York Breakfast serves both breakfast and lunch and has a wide menu. Prices are reasonable, portions are large. I had the breakfast sandwich on a nice, shiny soft bun, and my hubby had the green chili chilaquiles with scrambled eggs. I also had a rich tasting hot chocolate. I've eaten here many times since this place first opened. I would really like to have a great breakfast place walking distance from my house. I want this place to succeed. I don't think it will though. Just ask for scrambled eggs and you'll know why. If you ask for scrambled eggs, you'll get an omelette. If you emphasize that you want scrambled eggs...NOT an omelette...they'll serve you an omelette that's been cut up and put into a pile on your plate. When I show the pile of cut up omelette to the lady at the counter, I'm afraid things just get lost in translation...at best. At worst, she really doesn't care and just wants the complaining customer to leave already. I'm frustrated. I want this place to do well. It really could do so much better...especially since there are no good places to eat in the immediate vicinity of Kessler/56th and Michigan Rd. When I first ate here, I gave it a four-star review. After eating here many times, I took down my review, but didn't immediately replace it because I didn't want to hurt the business with an unfavorable review. After my experience today, I'm finally giving it a generous two-star review. Scrambled eggs isn't the only issue I've had with this place. I really could go on. If it would make any difference...if I thought management would actually listen, take the criticism, and improve things to their benefit and the benefit of the customer...then I would go on. I'd make a list. But they won't. Instead, they'll continue to serve the same low-quality, tired breakfast, from the same tired menu. They'll keep serving chopped up omelette instead of scrambled eggs. They'll continue opening their doors too late into the morning...passing up on those customers that will instead order a crap breakfast from McDonalds. They'll continue putting in their display counter the processed, boxed, cherry pies that you can get at the check-out aisle at Walmart or your local gas station...instead of putting something in the display counter made from scratch that looks delicious. Other than the name on the facade and a poster of the Statue of Liberty, there isn't anything about this place that conjures a good, authentic New York breakfast experience.
