Where has Mortadella Head been my whole life?? (And by whole life I mean just the past 2.5 years I've been living in Boston) After seeing so many incredible videos and pictures of their food on social media, I had pretty high expectations and I would say that those expectations were exceeded. The inside is quaint and limited seating, most people just come in for take out or to grab a slice of pizza. This could be controversial but Mortadella might have some of the best pizza in the Boston/Boston subs area. I'm all about good dough and their Roman style dough is incredible! I tried their pig pen pizza which has bbq pulled pork, bacon, onions, pickles, and fried onion rings. So good. We also got their infamous mozzarella sticks which would perfect. And their Poor Ragazzo sub which had fried calamari, butter, garlic, grated romano, banana peppers, lettuce, tomatoes, basil, olive oil, and Calabrian chili mayo. This sub was seriously chefs kiss. Mortadella Head is the pizza/sub not that you deserve, but the one that you need in these trying times and reintegration into normal life. Serving up whatever sub you can imagine (this Yinzer from Pittsburgh went with the aptly named Yinzer sub that mimics the famous Primanti's sandwich) to go with a slew of different pizza styles and toppings... you could order a different item every day for over 6 months and still have (delicious) options for months! The Roman pizza (full) is HUGE. It seems pricey, yes... but the amount of food you get for the price is something your small, human brain cannot comprehend. It comes in TWO full boxes, and we aren't talking those small, artisanal, "craft" pizza boxes, these boxes rival those of the old school joints where small children can't wrap their pre-adolescent arms around them. But, quantity isn't everything... and there is plenty of quality to go with the quantity. The dough, sauce, meats, rolls, and everything else they put on their subs and pizzas is nothing but the highest quality and you can taste it in each bite. That will lead to slightly higher prices, but I myself am willing to pay that price in order to have a superior experience and meal. I found the value ratio (what I got for price paid) to be commensurate with what I expected based on reviews and recommendations, if not greater. That being said, this isn't your ordinary dive deli+pizza+sub shop. These are meat and dough artists, and their skills are such that you should seek out their craftsmanship... for the offer delicious journeys through forgotten times and lands... at least for me, for it has been a while since I've had that ONE local pizza/sub shop I trusted. read more

The shredder pizza which is all the buzz on social media - was drenched in honey - with barely enough cheese and a small amount of pepperonis scattered about. Definitely not enough to balance the flavor of the entire bottle of honey that was dumped on it. I am a PIZZA LOVER and a huge fan of salty, sweet spicy so this was disappointing. Food is good. The Sicilian pizza is good but they need to freeze the pan it's cooked in perhaps because after being left out in the case it's stone hard. Imagine my surprise when I went out of my way to go to buy food from a place I've seen on social media that looks so great in the photos & video I've seen and we end up having a terrible experience. My husband & I both ordered chicken parm & mine also had eggplant in it. A take home thin crust margherita sets us up for Naples. The place is very clean well-decorated and a fun atmosphere with limited but reasonable seating. I would sell this photo I took of the chopped Cesar salad sub to the Louvre. We got three subs and all of them were so beautiful in their own way. The idea of vodka sauce on our chicken parm sub with garlic bread, that's enough to make anyone wiggle in their seat. We also got the chopped Italian sub on garlic bread.
