Italian bread the way it was suppose to be made. It's one of those Brooklyn classic that has been untouched by time. The store and recipes haven't changed since they've opened. They don't have a website or any social media but they stay in business because they have the best bread in all of Brooklyn. If I'm home I buy two packs of the breadsticks to take with me to friends in the west coast. My advice is to go early!!!!!! They'll be all sold out by 11am (or sooner if it's a weekend). The staff are friendly and super speedy. The line will be out the door and you'll still make it through in 10-15 mins cause the counter staff is moving so fast. It's a small shop but you really aren't in there for long. If you're looking for pastries pair with your bread you can pop into Aliatto's next door. read more

5 hours ago NEW I ordered a baby cake for a gender reveal. I am the dad. I pick it up and they tell me the filling confirming my child's gender. I was visually upset and said what the heck. I ordered 3 baskets of cookers for thanks giving which cist 150 total (50 each ). Not an apology not a discount nothing at all. Full price cookies full price cake. I probably would not have taken the discount but this is not cool. Took the joy and excitement out my heart . Cake is great pastry are yummy but this sucks. I'm sitting in my car so down and just in a bad mood. You ruined my entire day. I ordered a gender renewal cake to be surprised with the family not to be told in advance. And no sort of compensation not even a sorry cookoe. Not cool. If you reading this as a client the food is delicious all baked fresh but I as a father have to write this review so the owners know this is not cool and should not happen again. read more

Moretti is a rarity: an excellent nieghborhood bread bakery. The place is very small and doesn't look like much. But walking by in the morning, you will know it by the smell of freshly baked bread. The amount of varieties here is impressive for a place off the beaten path, with everything from baguettes to Taralli to topped foccacia to rye bread to poppy seed rolls. My favorite is the lard bread; if they have this when it's fresh out of the oven in the morning, get it. The fattiness of the pork will be perfectly melted into the bread like fresh butter. It's the best lard bread I've every had. More often than not though, I just grab a loaf of Italian bread. If you live nearby, don't sleep on this one. It's right up to par with Il Fornaretto, Addeo's, and other top Italian bread bakeries in the city. I've been coming since I was little and still make the trek from time to time. read more

It's nice to get down to Mill Basin. Sometimes I wonder why I ever wanted to move back to Brooklyn. All these nostalgia fetishists. All these $14 Sazeracs. All these dumb fedoras. All these 65-year-old dads pushing $750 strollers. When faced with an existential crisis of this nature, begin with a place like Moretti. I know there persists a mythology that Brooklyn lacked tastebuds and culinary awareness until the arrival of the bearded missionaries from Grinnell and the Culinary Institute of America. Now the scales have been lifted from our eyes, and we know that we can eat tallow, marrow, and duck fat all in the same meal, especially if we throw in a few ramps. But Moretti is what Brooklyn's always done. And it's better than what a lot of the new bread magicians are doing. Without preservatives, in the brick oven, and without charging you through the nose for the artisanal pretensions. Delicious semolina bread. Sure you could pay 300% more for the stuff that comes with the master baker's heartfelt thoughts on Eastern asceticism. And sure, Moretti, doesn't offer you congratulations for having the common sense to eat a bread that's made simply, of simple, real ingredients (they do tell you how to make a "cheese hero"). My favorite place whenever I'm off to granny's house. I've been eating here since HS. Always fresh always nice. You can order cakes for the holidays. That's the only time its truly busy. The BEST Baked Italian Bread in New York. I have been buying my bread from Moretti's for over 35 years and it is Unsurpassed. I have since moved away but when I visit I cannot leave without stocking up on Sicilian Twist and Fish loaves. I either pack light or bring an extra luggage so I can get it all home on the plane. My grandfather was the original owner and sold to the Moretti's around 1962 or 1963. When my grandfather opened it and owned it the bakery was called Marino's. Still looks the same on the outside. I was recently there! There is an old fire pull station on the corner that my mom had most of her pictures in front of. They lived upstairs from the bakery! read more

The bread is OK but nothing like the bread you get in Bensonhurst or on Arthur ave. It is the best in this area.
